Audiophile Thread

What headphones/microphone/headsets are you using Cred Forums?
I'm also in the market for a headset, wouldn't like to not use over 50$ and it must be PC compatible. What do you recommend?
I'm using the Turtle Beach X32 for XB1, so far it's been close to 3 years and they are still working amazingly.
For PC it is some random Logitech Headset that was 20$ at bestbuy, nothing special.

Medium kek.

Budget: Superlux HD681 or Arcano SHP-80s
Medium: AKG K240
High: Sennheiser HD598

Why bother with over-priced piece of shits? Just get one of these and a Modmic

MDR-7506 for flat listening and ATH-M50s for fun listening plus a cheapass desk mic.

Headsets are trash.

Sony MA300 is a great value for gaming. They're $44 on Amazon. No mic though, so you'll have to get that separately.

HD-650's.

Got them when they were $500 back in 2009.

Got a decent headphone amp and these niggas be bumpin' yo.

I liked the Panasonic RP-HTF600-S when I had it a few years ago, but they cost $40 now. I'm not sure what the best bang for buck headphones are now. As for a microphone, you can't go wrong with the Sony ECM-CS3.

Unlike OP, I'm not gonna pretend I'm an audiophile.
What are some cheap headphones that get the job done for under $30? They don't need to have perfect audio, but I don't want anything that's Game Boy speaker-tier.

the sony ones are pretty good but vmoda boom mics are nice as well for those headphones with a removable cable

so far these are nice

they are semi open and dont have that overbearing Bass so you can hear people talking even though the game is loud as fuck

The Sony mic can be found for $15, but the V-MODA mic has more features. If he buys the V-MODA mic, he'll need to have a pair of headphones with a detachable cable.

Can THEY hear the game, though?

One question does the stereo mic actually work stereo in chat?

Show me objective, empirical double-blind studies that people can actually tell a difference between 320 and FLAC (with credible sources).

If you do I'll buy you any $60 game on Steam.

>does the stereo mic actually work stereo in chat?
I doubt it, but the mic sounds pretty great anyway.

NFC I got in before the meme, so they were only about $85 for some absolutely bumpin cans once they burned in and settled down. After a while when the highs started fading and I was shopping around for a replacement, I saw they were >$140 and was kinda shocked. They're fun and good, but they're not THAT good.

V-Moda Crossfade m-100's. They're so good I can headshot invisible spies in TF2 from the sound of their footsteps.

I bought these a few years ago.
amzn.com/B00007E7C8

I have a microphone that was like $20 on Amazon. Nothing impressive there, but it works.

Hey man I'm on the same boat as you, with that FLAC shit, but I must have struck an autistic nerve.
How about I just say you can't hear the difference since you listen to inferior quality tracks

Forgot to mention I have the volume at tinnitus levels

Monoprice 8323s. They're debadged Kicker HP240s, of which I own a pair that are still going strong. Solid thumpy bass that doesn't overpower the mids and highs, and reasonably solid construction with a replaceable cable for sub 20 USD.

I have a turtle beach recon 60p. Only because my monitor in my room doesn't have any way to plug in speakers.

Ha,ha.

No, it was a maymay I use when people actually insist that FLAC is 'better quality' then 320.

Maybe the numbers on paper but in reality, the human ear can't distinguish from the two.

Placebo effect is delicious though.

To laugh at.

I bought some 1 dollar walmart earbuds and they're just fine and I can hear the sound of one arm clapping in a forest that got chopped of its trees while I wasn't around with them, they're that good

Every single nigger on Cred Forums has these.

Shit time won't stop. I used to pass em at 75 lol Yea man, just wanted some decent beaters till I could afford to hear the difference. So the burn in, true or just more placebo

I use a Sennheiser HD600 for most media consumption.

For competitive gaming where I need a mic I use the Sennheiser Game One headset.

I don't like desk mics, the noise cancelling mic on the Sennheiser headset is pretty decent.

The Sennheiser headset isn't as neutral as the HD600 but it sounds pretty good.

Nope never had anyone say they can hear themselves or the game through my mic

These are my superlux 668b with brainwavz padding and a v-moda boom mic

I have an Audio-Technica ATH-M20x. Picked it up for about $40, and it sounds just fine. It's a bit tight, though, so I don't recommend it if you have a big head.

Yeah but only because they can't afford the HD-650's and a decent amp.

Don't get me wrong, they're decent/good-tier cans but you get what you pay for and you pay for what you get.

Invest in the HD-650's and you'll be set for over a decade.

I've only had to replace the cords once do to faggot little brother stepping on the cord, the ear pads due to they going completely flat and I upgraded the headband to the HD-600s since it's comfier.

They even come in a badass case with form inserts so there is literally ZERO excuse to not take care of them and have them last longer than any relationship you'll ever have.

Beyerdynamic MMX300 hooked up to an astro mixamp

they are amazing, the only problem is some of them have a problem with the wire on the mic side, but I got mine replaced quickly and haven't had trouble since.

There have been some isolated non-controlled cases where people have been able to do so. It involves the MP3 cut-off at 20kHz.

Also if I were 18 years old I would have been able to prove you wrong if I made a 21kHz tone file and encoded at 320kbps MP3 and the other was lossless, there would be no data on the MP3 so the ABX would be easy if you could hear up to 21kHz. But I'm too old now. I can only hear up to 18kHz.

His about you don't live in a shit area?

am i the only one that have HD800?

Had the wired version of these forever, eventually one of the ear cups snapped off (passed out trying to get rid of hiccups once and fell head first out of my chair, had some cracks and probably weakened it, although I apparently outlasted the lifespan people online had). Now I got some Sennheiser 363 because they were releasing a newer model and these were on sale, work bretty gud, requires some extra driver on win 10 and before the recent update the l/r channels would switch sometimes though

why are standalone desk microphones so overpriced? I was using an app for my phone and plugging into my PC and it sounded fine. I would like pretty much any microphone a phone would use but able to hear from a couple feet away.

>Implying I was going for aesthetic

Price doesn't equal quality.

MSR7 is much more comfortable. I'd pick it based on that alone.

It's good for archiving music.

This shit has been fixed for years.

ATH-M40X, honestly I wish I got the M50X or some other headphone that's a bit more expensive. I didn't think I'd instantly turn into an audiophile immediately after getting my first pair of half decent headphones.

Price almost always equal quality, unless you buy beats or bose or gamer trash.

Any 200-400$ headphone from sony, beyerdynamic, etc will absolutely shit on whatever budget 25$ garbage you have or that 200$ razer repainted shit.

>not spending $1300 purely on Cable Lifters®

Well I have been out of the hobby for a bit but doesn't noise cancelling have a diminishing effect of the drivers?

>mfw checking out the new price.

Why are headphone prices so unstable?

Price doesn't equal quality though.

You have no idea what you're talking about so I suggest you stop posting.

I don't have any $25 headphones though, nice projecting.

Hearing the difference now isn't the reason to encode to FLAC. FLAC uses lossless compression, while MP3 is 'lossy'. What this means is that for each year the MP3 sits on your hard drive, it will lose roughly 12kbps, assuming you have SATA - it's about 15kbps on IDE, but only 7kbps on SCSI, due to rotational velocidensity. You don't want to know how much worse it is on CD-ROM or other optical media.

I started collecting MP3s in about 2001, and if I try to play any of the tracks I downloaded back then, even the stuff I grabbed at 320kbps, they just sound like crap. The bass is terrible, the midrange...well don't get me started. Some of those albums have degraded down to 32 or even 16kbps. FLAC rips from the same period still sound great, even if they weren't stored correctly, in a cool, dry place. Seriously, stick to FLAC, you may not be able to hear the difference now, but in a year or two, you'll be glad you did.

No idea, but I'll look into it now.

Thanks. Those aren't too bad

Seriously if you're gaming the M series headphones are not what you should be looking at. Look for more open headphones as the M series headphones have hardly any soundstage.

I wrap them around my hand and then tie it?

I don't really know if I'm answering your question.

Yeah, they're marketed as being off the grid coolers, so they have sway with the country brat crowd, but they're a pretty legit product. Credit where credit is due, they are insanely rugged, like saw one fall down a ravine with 60 pounds of food beer and ice in it and barely got scuffed up. I have one of the thermoses they sell and it'll keep an iced drink chilled for about 12 hours before it starts to go lukewarm.

I've got a $30 logitech PC speaker system and when I fiddle with the control knob the audio balance kinda sways back and forth until I get just the right position. This also happens with my cheap headphones.

Is this something I can fix?

All that just so that fucking Walmart could basically do the same thing. But I guess that YETI sticker that it comes with must look good on your vehicle

>Show me objective, empirical double-blind studies that people can actually tell a difference between 320 and FLAC (with credible sources).
The Steam game wouldn't cover the costs of throwing together that study. Nobody cares, so serious inquiries are hardly ever performed on high bit rate lossy audio.

>tfw just spent $700 buying an HD 600 and the Schiit Uber stack

Did I waste my money?

You fell for the shit meme, so yeah, you did.
A cheapo DAC/AMP combo from Fiio would have done just fine and saved you a couple hundred bucks.

>Did I waste my money?
On the schiit stack. An E10K would have done the job.

I have one that I gutted and use for RGB output. Does that make me a bad person?

What are the BEST headphones for under 100 dollars?

The HD681 Evo only feels uncomfortable with the stiff ass stock pads, slap some velour or memory foam pads on them and they feel and sound great for the price. I agree about the M50X, though. I was pretty let down by them in almost every regard. I'd take my SHP9500s, Pro80s, or 681 EVO with HM5 pads over them any day and for basically half the cost.

I'm also using X2's right now but with an E10K using line out to a Magni 2. Going to pick up either HD600s or an HE400I/S next, not sure if I want to go beyond that since the $300-350 range seems to be where diminishing returns kick in.

No such thing because audio is based on personal preference.

I would have gotten the HD600 alone with the Magni amp. Onboard sound is fine.

I use my HD600 with an ALC1150 motherboard, drives them pretty fine.

FiiO stuff feels like cheap shit.

Heavily depends on a lot of shit.

Having used one I can say it is a bit better than most mobos. But it can be susceptible to system noise, and creative's software is godawful. 0/10 would not buy.

Just get a MDR-7506. Considered the industry standard of monitoring headphones.
He's legit though, he doesn't post pictures but he's a regular poster on the Cred Forums headphone thread.

MSR7 it is then

I did my research senpai. The Magni Uber 2 is almost as good as the Ashard 2 (actually better in some aspects) and is $100 cheaper.

>Fiio
You just proved you have no idea what you're talking about. Enjoy your shitty build quality and having to buy a new amp every few months.

How much that set you back? Can't seem to find one at a fair price

Pretty sure they'd say the same thing. You can't just ask for the best, you'll have to state your preferences on whether you'd prefer more comfort or better audio, open or closed, shit like that.

$90 but I bought it 10 years ago. I still see them on craigslist for $100-$200. What kind of prices are you seeing?

> Research
If you by research you mean asking /r/headphones what you should buy you sure did a good job.
Did you get a VE Monks with that order? I heard they're hot shit on r/headphones right now.

I'm seriously thinking of getting the same ones. Years ago, I got the ones for under 200 and they were extremely comfortable. Are other brands this comfortable? Would like to know

Open or closed?
It's high isolating headphones, might be uncomfortable.

200+ locally. Don't want to buy it online since I knowost seller Jew out when it comes to shipping

Please stop shilling FiiO garbage. It's cheaply made chink stuff. Sure it's audibly transparent but the volume pot turns into shit after a few months.

t. HD600 owner who drives them directly from his mobo

I've not found another brand that completely fits over my ears and doesn't touch them at all. I can wear them for hours at a time, no problem.

Unless you have a need for the preout and extra power, you could have settled with just Magni 2.
As far as Fiio build quality goes, as long as you're not smacking them on the side of your table, they won't break. The E10K measures flat and has more than enough headroom for the HD600 given you aren't EQing and adding preamp.

I didn't even know r/headphones existed and even if I did ask them, they sure as fuck going to be more knowledgeable than you, faggot.

Am I going crazy, or is everyone saying that the price of old headphones is getting higher?

I'm thinking closed, but I've read that open has better sound quality. I'll take good examples of both of you can

>All these ATH M series, Skull candy, and Turtle Beach users in this thead thinking they understand what it means to be an audiophile

Also here's a showing of a cheap mic that cost 2 dollars, against a Razer headset.

youtube.com/watch?v=78XpSjPrr2E

Hmm. What about this? I have prime so it's only 100 dollars

How do you like the Ety MK5? I've never really owned decent earbuds and pretty much always opted for these cheap $5 JVC ones that would work fine for ~a year and then fall apart. It was just a few bucks so replacing them wasn't really a big deal but I'm finally looking into spending a bit more to see how much of a difference it can make before splurging on some custom IEMs. The MK5 looked like a good start since isolation is pretty important to me.

Seconding the MDR-7506. I'd also recommend SHP9500s in the sub 100 range even though they're closer to 50 these days.

I've used an E10K almost every day for over two years, hasn't let me down in any way yet works on my machine where as one of the rubber feet on my Magni 2 has fallen off and now it doesn't sit completely straight.

Got a set of Sennheiser HD 598 SEs and a Blue Snowball for a mic.

DT880 definitely

Get a fucking dac as well.

Why would anyone wear this shit? It clearly doesn
t fit over your ears, which worsens noise quality and discomfort.

You got a lot of better options for 100USD. MDR-7506 is a really safe option. HD280 is good but has high clamping force, it was built to be a very high isolating headphone. DT770 Pro 80 ohm limited edition is superb for 130USD. Superb build and comfort.

Just get any generic rubber feet for the Magni, was it the FiiO or the Magni that shipped with some 3M branded ones. Can't remember, those are good.

Audio technicas used to be 50-70 max

>I would have gotten the HD600 alone with the Magni amp. Onboard sound is fine.
I wanted to use it also on my TV for consoles and movies.

Thanks bros, i looked and i decided on the SHP9500s. Will be buying tomorrow.

Former gear.

>MSR7 comfort
I dunno. I had the M50, and while it wasn't the pinnacle of comfort, the MSR7 was quite worse. Maybe my head is just too large for it, the adjustment didn't go that far out.

Isolation is high, as are all Etymotic style. Balance is fairly flat. Trable balance can vary a bit depending on the eartips you use.
I tend to use Comply tips. They take more time to insert (you have to roll them up so that the foam doesn't cover the nozzle), they don't have as much bass, but they control the treble a little bit and they are comfortable.
>splurging on some custom IEMs
I have this rant I can give about custom in-ears and why they aren't so great. But this is Cred Forums, so the thread will fall off before I can finish composing it.

For around 100 dollars you should get the NVX XPT100 or the AKG K553

Akg K7XX with a cheap amp/dac (they need an amp definitely though)

Fidelio X2 with a cheap amp/dac
This is also good. Just make sure you get the 32 ohm one if you don't get an amp. Get the 250 ohm one if you get a cheaper amp. 600 ohm one would
probably put you out of your price range.

Sennheiser HD 600 which are considered one of the best headphones on the market are currently $288 on Amazon.

>I have this rant I can give about custom in-ears and why they aren't so great. But this is Cred Forums, so the thread will fall off before I can finish composing it.
Post that rant in a later /hpg/. I've also been considering some customs, like a single BA one, you know an affordable one.

Did you EQ the HD600?

I know you're autistic about audio performance.

Listening to my speakers and back again to the HD600, I feel like there's a treble dip at 8kHz.

I have a second story loft in my house. I hang the headset upside down by the cord and stand there as gravity unkinks and unwinds the wire. Works great.

You could also do it section by section of you don't have a loft, or if you don't give a fuck do it off your roof

>that song you always use to test a new headphone

Post it.

Here's mine:

youtube.com/watch?v=Xznpr3AEFDY

Here's my cheap ass setup. Love the old Kenwood I dug up. Need to invest in a better mic, but that can come later.

Why does this make me angry?

>Did you EQ the HD600?
Yes.
>I know you're autistic about audio performance.
Does it seem that way? I spend more time reading how to acoustics than playing audiophile.

I do dissect headphone spectrum sometimes, it's necessary for EQ.
On the other hand, I listen from laptop speakers more often than I can be bothered to put on the HD600.
>Listening to my speakers and back again to the HD600, I feel like there's a treble dip at 8kHz.
That has been in line with my experience.

That's not funny. There are people in here who will actually believe this.

fuck you, i have school and want to do something with my life

Sennheiser HD 598 and a Blue Yeti microphone.

I'm thinking about buying a sennheiser hd558 since it's affordable enough for me
is that ok? I've only used $20 headphones all this time

>silver color good price
>black color around 300 with tax
fucking why

I've had AKG-240s for a couple years now. More comfortable than the ATH-M50s, imo

>Does it seem that way?
Well I didn't mean it in a negative way if you're possibly offended. You seem as someone that is hard to please when it comes to audio quality.

>amp
what good do amps do?

Been using shure monitor headphones for the last 5 years. I have no regrets.

>mic

Honestly don't know anything about music or audio files and I was suckered in until the "store in cold places line." But I disagree, that shit is very very funny

You mean newfags who haven't seen ancient pasta? Just reading it you can see it's satire as fuck.

>stored correctly, in a cool, dry place

I bought that same adapter a couple of months ago for my Xbone

>I upgraded the headband to the HD-600s since it's comfier.
I think the HD650's headband is superior though. But I prefer the HD600's sound. Maybe I should transplant some HD600 drivers in a HD650 unit.

Amplify.

You probably don't need one nowadays.

I heard I should get some open headphones, but don't they leak sound a lot?

However I'm sure m20x's are going to be a direct upgrade to what I'm using now

I bought 900Xs because they were cheaper at the time.

they don't leak outside of a closed room generally

does it have mic echo?

not in my experience

I dunno they're fine. The sound leaking isn't going to be a problem unless you're in public or there's someone else in the room who doesn't want to hear it. I doubt your roommates/parents whatever will hear it

Basically go open unless you need sound isolation from outside noise

It would be hard to deny at this point. I don't take offense.
>You seem as someone that is hard to please when it comes to audio quality.
Is it that most headphones/speakers are bad or am I just picky? I say both.
My first resort is to beat things into line with EQ. It works well enough, most of the time.

...

>Is it that most headphones/speakers are bad or am I just picky?

Bad if you look at the flaws first I suppose. I mean I can lay back and listen to most headphones and enjoy it, my brain gets used to the unique sound signature in a matter of minutes.

They're fine. Look into the foam mod for them.

Yes, they're very good headphones, a very safe option, no it doesn't need a DAC or an amp in case you were gonna ask this after I posted this. I saved you a reply. Don't reply to this post. I don't wanna waste my time reading your posts again. Thanks.

Are the HD 598s worth it or are there a better pair of headphones at the same price point that I should be buying instead?

...

HD558 is the same thing for cheaper.

HD558, HD598 and HD598 special edition are all the same thing. Just buy the cheapest one.

The HD598 is identical to the HD558 apart from colour and foam modding it will make them sound the same too.

So then what's good for $150 or so?

The frequency response is a bit different. The 558’s go from 15 – 28,000 Hz. The 598’s extend from 12 – 38500 Hz. This explains the slightly punchier, tighter response by contrast, and the differences in the treble frequency/highs.

HD558 famalam.

It's literally the same thing. The difference is the HD558 has a piece of foam inside. The foam doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Both sound identical.

>TFW when
>that feel when when

HD558 are open headphones so people around you will hear what you're listening to unless you close your doors

For some good closed ones I recommend the NVX XPT100.

If the open is fine then the choice you selected is good.

Are you a dog?

>15 – 28,000 Hz. The 598’s extend from 12 – 38500 Hz
This means nothing. Open dynamics have difficulty extending below 50hz.
Sony MDR Z7 claims 4hz-100khz and that barely has any extension over 10khz. It doesn't even measure that well despite that claim anyway.

...

I'm also looking at the ATH-M50x, are those any good?

that's a cute doggo

Is that SIVA?

For portable use they're decent. For everything else, no. Your head will hate you for wearing them. They have no soundstage so they're awful for gaming. If you like bloated bass then they're pretty good but the mids and vocals of songs will suffer for it.

What's a good pair of headphones around $150 then?

this thread muses me, audiophiles would never prefer headphones over monitors, you lose most the dynamics of sound in a confined area.

Separate manufacturers can make headphones that says on the box "frequency response 20hz - 20khz" but the measured frequency response can be completely different.

Headphones have a lot to do with physics. An example is the cheap planar, T50RP, which is usually modded with damping, new cups, whatever else people can think of, and sound different despite having the same driver. Mad Dogs, a modded T50RP, sound completely different to a stock T50RP.

In the case of the HD558 and HD598, as others have said, the build is exactly the same and removing the foam from the HD558 makes it a HD598.

What do you want them for?

Music and video games, home use.

youtube.com/watch?v=63BxrNuXnYg

Personally I think 598s are universal even without umf bass. 558 maybe more suitable, bassier(?).

Depends what games you play, for RPGs or strategy 598s are fantastic.

Then there is $200+ category which you need to research yourself. There is a need for proper DAC and AMP for those - makes whole thing around $450-500.

DT770, K553 pro or NVX XPT100 for closed

HD558 with mod or HD598 without mod for open. There's also the AKG K612 I would recommend but you would need an amp with them.

>HD558 with mod
i'd say it makes them worse, 598s have slightly different stage which works good with their cold sound, 558 a bit warmer which is good.

anyone with hd600s? how do they work in games? thinking of upgrade, and I really love neutral sound of 598s
hd600 is that but even more neutral, people say sound stage is way too close though

...

I don't like the HD5xx because of the HD600. Just superior in every aspect.

those are $50.000 headphones based on some nano shit without any magnets, it's like going to live symphony performance
i'd cry there too if I could listen to live concerts in my room every day

Why is he crying?

that's good, I want same but better
why nobody ever talks about DACs?
Thinking about Schiit modi and magni combo. Relatively cheap and effective.

>all $120+ headphones I've tried grip way too tight on my head
>the only really comfortable pair of headphones I've owned is the $25 Sennheiser HD202

Anyone know of any high quality headphones with good bass that won't smash my head flat?

Does this still hold up?

it's a good thing, live with it for a week it gets fine afterwards

I've had my astro a40's for over 5 years now. Still works great.

There's no torrent for many albums in flac format

thingken of sound

my ears hurt, but decent sounding for the price

dac + amp is only nessicary if
a) you have a completely shit dac, most modern dacs are beyond good enough
b) you have a hard time hearing you music, then you need an amp, and maybe a dac so the amp has a good clean source to amp

else wise you're just doing it for the looks or because you are a faggot who doesn't understand audio

Have k552 pros/ k7xx / HD650 and a couple different amps/dacs

I've used AKG 702q's for ~ 3 years now, they're open and feel like nothing is on your head after 10 minute so. They're also very light. It does cause my hair to compress after using it for it for ~3-4 hours though.

Recommend getting a DAC/Headphone Amp if you plan on using using headphones with an amazing soundstage though, Otherwise it's just a waste.

sure. might be cheaper now

Anyone tried one of these? I want t6 know if this is a meme or legit

amazon.com/Teac-UD-503-B-Dual-Monaural-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B0179XNQUQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1475136512&sr=8-1&keywords=ud+503

my first pair of senns. bought 2, cable kept getting damaged WAT too easily.
gonna prob buy the hd600s because I miss music sounding good

on a meme note I got those cat ear headphones as a gift. they sound like overpriced mdr-zx100s, if just a little better and less muddy. only wear em cuz I keep the lights off at night and they make for a neat portable light when I'm gamin late. no need to turn on the light in the kitchen or bathroom because these fuckers are BRIGHT. good for not waking s/o up with bright overhead lights either. using a radio show mic I jacked from my old high school 8 years ago. streamed with them on a few months back and it was great how creepy everything looked.

pic related, i have the blue and it's pretty bright. green makes me feel sick and the purple feels like sexy mood lighting. red feels like I'm dtf

On a side note. Have you seen some of the HiDef products sony has been offering? Stuff is like 3k for a 8gb mp3 made specifically to play that format. I want to embrace the new format but fuck that if im going to spend that kind of money on digital, ill just stick to records and cassettes.

Kingston Hyper X Cloud 2

Works great for pc and ps4.

What type of headphones are those?

What are the best sounding headphones for around 300 - 350 kangaroo credits?

Thinking of the Meme technica Meme50X

Sound Blaster Z + Sennheiser HD 380 Pro

Bosse's are pretty good because of their noise canceling tech. I think that company intented the tech and they make noise canceling headphones for pilots and shit. An added bonus is that they look low key as fuck, so most people wouldn't think they're worth mugging you for.

I got mine at JBHIFI for 375 dollarydoos.

Forgot my pic

...

No bass whatsoever & starting to really show their age but still love these. Amazing everywhere other than bass & comfy too

I can't even decide between open or closed back...

What would you recommend for someone who will be using them at home on my pc but am still slightly noise conscious? I have roommates.

DT 880 (250ohm) + Topping D2 DAC

The latest one is this one plus DT250 in closed.

>I have roommates

Buy a house, not headphones.

You can get some 558's for 250 dollarydoos at Hardly Normal, and you can remove the kike-foam from it easily to give you 598 performance.

>250 dollarydoos at Hardly Normal
Cheaper at Minidisc.

What is the open and closed circumaural?

ATH-Meme50x

What?
Circumaural basically means that it goes over the ears. Sound leaks in and out from open headphones. Closed doesn't.

Sennheiser PC363D, its k.

Why would you want sound coming out in the first place if you're using headphones?

Also, what do you suggest I get if all do is gaming?

Plantronics Gamecom 780. Microphone is excellent, and the dolby digital 7.1 software is hard to live without. I've tried other more expensive headsets but I always end up returning them and coming back to the Gamecom.

Open backed and Closed backed. Open provides a better soundstage and is pretty much the go-to for an audiophile, as you can tell by such an image, but it also lets sound in so if you have people screaming, cars zooming by etc you will be negatively influenced by such sound, along with if you're blasting Death Grips the whole house can hear you. Closed backs offer better noise-cancellation and doesn't have as much sound leakage, so mum won't know you're listening to some jappo ero-voice when you cash in your GBP.

Any audiophile worth a shit should have a quiet room, however, especially if you're blowing a grand on fucking headphones, not to mention amps, cables and cable stands and the like.

Sounds more natural. For gaymen, you want open unless you live in a loud environment or something.

Blue Yeti and Sennheiser HD598.

I do recommend.

>DT 770
>not DT 990

I swap between Sennheiser 598, and Sennheiser Game Zero depending on whether or not I can deal with hearing my A/C. Also

>Audiophile
>Using Turtle Beach

DT770 Pro 250Ohm Masterrace incoming

Welp thanks going for open then because I want to annoy people while playing games along with my blue switches on my keyboard.

beyerdynamix MMX300 here, superb audio quality, mic is also good but mine died 1 year in, cable broke and its non detachable sol..

need to rma it but no idea if they'll still fix it

When will this myth die?

SoundCards have always been better than onboard audio - even now.

If you have a decent pair of headphones that requires some amplification to sound decent then a soundcard like ASUS xonar is the way to go. $20.

Made my 558s sound goldlike compared with the flat no range onboard sound.

also dolby surround if you're into that.

don't fall for the onboard is the same meme

FIIO X5 + Sennheiser HD25-1 II on the go
Meier Corda Jazz + Beyerdynamic Tesla T1 (first gen) at home

HD25-1 II are extremely durable and one of the most comfortable pair of headphones I used. Sound-wise they are typical Sennheiser: decent sound overall, but with overaggressive treble and small-ish soundstage

Tesla are fucking gorgeous. Can't list any serious negatives: the soundstage is amazing and the sound is extremely accurate and transparent at any range.

Not them, but sound cards don't do anything if all you do is game and watch anime and movies, right?

>T1
Hope you're prepared for tinnitus.

Mah nigga

>Turtle Beach X32
>Audiophile
kys

please recommend me some closed headphones up to 250USD

Good ol beyer peak

do not think audiophile quality is placebo

if you are paying minimal, you are receiving minimal

the trick is to go for short term discounts, sales and such, to get equipment that costs more for a ton less

there is a definite reason for better equipment costing more

these

You'll need a soundcard / DAC / Amp if you are using headphones that have high ohms, otherwise the onboard sound is not powerful enough and the volume will be very quiet even at max.

Are there any good open Technica? I like their quality and products.

do you by any chance think 30fps = 60fps = 144fps = 29.5fps and so on

ATH-AD series. Though lacking in bass, they are good for muh footsteps.

I use this

this is fairly fucking autistic

got a pair of astro a50's at EB games for $80 because they were missing the aux cable that's half the cable.

so bretty gud deal. been working lovely nearly two years.

Implying you need a solidly built amp that costs $300

You're saying buy the 300 dollar one because it 'feels more solid'

NIgga when do you ever touch it? just leave it sitting on the desk and it sounds the same as the 300 dollar one. Fiio are rip offs as they are - all amps are desu. You could solder one for 10 dollars.

If you can still get a decent pair of AD700s they'll do you well for years

Hope you don't like bass...

HD 558's are better
i say this as someone with the 598's
cheaper, and the headband is better to most people [i like the 598 more personally]

yes, they're amazing for an open pair.

you don't wish you got the m50x. The m40x are actually much better. The pads are horrible on both, but the m40x has a smoother response and doesnt have ear rape trebble.

you can get the first clouds for ~70
i got em for 35 USD ages ago
link to the 2050's? I can only find em for 40 on aliexpress

yes
you can run HD 600's off 70 dollar fiio amp/dacs
or an smsl

anything is more comfortable than m50s

make sound louder, and properly supply power to the headphones

m50x are shit
m40x are better
or a multitude of other closed headphones

if you remove the m50x and add the hd600's along side the 650's, yeah

why in the name of the lord would you buy those piles of shit

not the m50's
you can get HD 600's for those shekels if you hunt for prices

when i'm mobile i use Beyers DT770 250Ohm with a FiiO X3 1st gen.

@pc i use the beyers with a asus xonar dg

if you are tone deaf, sure
but for me it made the difference when I switched to 558 first time
and made it even bigger when I got myself external DAC\AMP for 598s

if you actually listen to sound for any media it makes the difference

DAC itself is not THAT important, most of them have similar design, clarity of the output is qustionable in most cases
but i'd consider AMP, even tiny fiio, to push proper power into headphones
even 32ohm ones are out of breath with onboard

>Bass lads

get 558s, remove foam in the cups that artificially limit the quality
there you are - 598 quality with a better looking case too.

magni is $99
magni uber is $170(?) and exactly the same as normal one with some whistle bullshit for 3% of users

why'd you mention me
i already have 598's

I'll say it again, I think it makes 558s worse. They sound good with foam, and do not sound like 598 without it but somewhere in between.

Sennheiser HD 439 with a modmic attached.

Headphones were on sale so fuck it.

for anyone who reads your reply.

I'm not an audiophile but senn. 650.

got them for 50 a while ago
sound pretty alright
theyre ugly as all fuck though

As long as they're comfortable and sounds alright, I don't really care for how it looks desu.
I don't use them in public so it doesn't bother me.

...

50 dollar headphones? I didn't know Sennheiser cheaped out on their flagship headphone. Oh, yeah, now I remember. Filthy freedom hating communists use periods instead of commas when talking about numbers.

So.. how do you keep a headphone clean?

I have 5.1 surround on my speakers with the speakers themselves equidistant from me. Are there any PC headphoens that can simulate this? Or do they need to be open? If they're open then they're defeating the purpose

Gave my old G35's to my sister. She loves them but complains that they are quite heavy.

youtube.com/watch?v=IUDTlvagjJA

Anyone have that screenshot that gets posted on Cred Forums of the audiophile forum thread where they are discussing which are the best SATA hard drive cable for audio quality?

DT770

wew lad

What is this?

Measured frequency response of Beyerdynamic T1. See that big spike at 9khz? RIP user's ears.

>Beyerdynamic T1

What?

>The Biss2 in my Denon D7ks broke

Maybe I'll just metal epoxy to fix it.

lmgtfy.com/?q=beyerdynamic+t1

Beyerdynamic's flagship headphone.

>tfw your computer chair gets caught on your $500 headphone cable and the headphones come crashing to the ground

I've got to give it to Beyerdynamic, their build quality is great, this has happened 40+ times to me in 3 years.

you can basically buy enough parts from their parts stores to build a seat of headphones anyway

Their warranty policy sucks apparently.

AKG K712+Modmic 4.0
Used to have MDR V6. After trying open back I don't think I'll ever be able to go closed again.

only way it should be done

They're open back, so yes, if you have it loud. The neighbours never would though and the soundstage is a lot bigger so you feel like there's a bigger space around you the sounds are coming from.

>I can tell anything below 320.

no, you fucking can't. do a double blind test, faggot.

>i can hear literally invisible compression artifacts
wow you must be a super human :^)

I'm using those same headphones when I need to Cost me 20 bucks about 4-5 years ago. Decent little things.
I use them for PC though.

It's the cable getting tugged now and again that always broke my old headphones, I would have no idea how to fix that if my cable got broke.

>there is no difference between 720p and 1080p
>human eye can't see beyond 30 fps
>input lag 40ms is small

What headphones have the best

>muh footsteps

I only play fps games

Audio Technica AD500x/700x/900x/1000x/2000x

Even 320 can sound fucked at times. Decay on high hats and cymbals shits me up the wall.

All the audiophile cheap headphones cost ~$100

all of the open ones $150+
closed design suck

You don't need special headphones for that

Cred Forums I have a fucking problem

I'm using earbuds right now and my left ear feels so fucking weird.

It's like I have nothing in my ear and the sound seems slightly flat. It can hear at the same level of my other ear, but it seems different.

Got 420x stealths they gud2go
