Honestly the main problem with YW is the monsters themselves. Westerners don't really get it because it's all Japanese folklore. And not only that they made it annoying to capture the monsters. I get not having a 100% chance but when you are 6 fights in just to get one it's bullshit. Yeah SMT does it but that's for adults and are devils and angels who are all fucking assholes in the game so it makes more sense.

Too bad Atlus beat them to it, pretty much.

The only good thing about Yokai Watch is the anime and the only good thing about the anime is the shota

Literally everything about it is completely engineered to appeal to an 8 year old Japanese kid.
The game is a slice of life about being a Japanese kid, and it's piss easy so they never get frustrated.
Little nip boys don't have the attention span for a really story, love the Japanese culture circle jerk designs, and love the flashy no input battle system.
Plus it has loads of merchandise with the watches (theres like 5 new ones every game) among other toys as well as an anime to watch, TCG, and so on.
It's a franchise entirely honed in on appealing to a very specific demographic as hard as possible.

Well, for one, Sun/Moon already has more preorders in Japan than YW3 ended with, and that is despite it having more than fifty days left before release.

Secondly, YW3 didn't exactly set a high standard (even Busters sold better). YW3 has sold 1.2 million in eleven weeks in Japan. If Sun/Moon simply matches X/Y's Japanese opening week in 2013 (1.9 million), it'll likely have sold more in one week than YW3 will have in all of 2016.
