Did anyone else think X and Mega Man were the same person?

Did anyone else think X and Mega Man were the same person?

when i was a kid, I thought X was like the teenage version of megaman.

Wait, they're not?

megaman lore is retarded don't worry about it

There is lore? Explain.

X is essentially Mega Man Ver. 2

With free will and shit

I don't know it myself. It's retarded so i've forgotten it and don't pay attention to it anymore.

Yea and I used to think Zero was Roll

X is Dr. Light's final creation put into a capsule to be awakened later in the far future

Yeah, doctor Light's greatest achievement which he sealed away in a capsule because the technology was waaaaaay ahead of it's time. The "X" stands for infinite possibilities.

Robot masters technically have no free will despite having personalities and interests and shit

Light creates X a robot with free will who requires years of mental conditioning to ensure he wouldn't become evil

At the same time, Wily creates Zero who was probably uncontrollable so he sealed him away.

Years later, Cossack digs up X. As he's not a roboticist (he's an archeologist) he sucks at copying X's design, specifically his black box, and creates replications of him. Reploids. However due to his inferior skills they suffer from mechanical issues and go 'maverick'.

Cossack's first reploid, Sigma, encountered Zero who he fought with, his Virus transferred to Sigma, which corrupted him and made him the main bad guy

I'm 99% certain it's implied that X's operating system is effectively a free-willed upgrade of what Mega Man was.

Whether it's literally Mega Man's original brain/personality/digital soul uploaded into a new body is unknown because Mega Man mythology is goddamn weird and stumbles over itself sometimes.

never played a megaman x game before
I just finished 4 and it was a ton of fun
harder than I thought it would be but it was still awesome

can anyone recommend any other specific megaman games they like?

>Cossack
You mean Dr. Cain
Cossack is the russian guy from MM4

>cossack
You mean Dr.Cain?

>because the technology was waaaaaay ahead of it's time

Nah, because X needed years of stress testing and conditioning, longer than Light would have survived through. Except he basically uploads a copy of his mind into cyberspace soooo.

Anyways, it's generally accepted that Ciel was so good at her job that she actually did copy X down to his Robo DNA, and for all purposes, Copy X was indeed a perfect clone of him. minus one thing: he never received the years of conditioning so he suffers from robotic logic instead. While the real X wouldn't consider it, as Copy X had no empathy, he decided to kill all reploids for the sake of humanity

yes I meant Cain

stupid old man why did you have to copy robo adam, why

Because he was Abel

>Robot masters technically have no free will despite having personalities and interests and shit

I've always hated this. What could actually be the difference? They can clearly harm humans, they can decide to do things on their own, etc., and depending on which version of MM7 you like (the JP version makes him obey Asimov's laws, which you'd think Wily would've abuse from the beginning), they don't seem to have much of a limit.

It's like how Futurama robots have "no free will", but even in the episode all about it, it has no effect.

>Light creates X a robot with free will who requires years of mental conditioning to ensure he wouldn't become evil
The reason used why X discards all powers after each game is because the program ran far longer than it should have and he ended up a technical pacifist.

>At the same time, Wily creates Zero who was probably uncontrollable so he sealed him away.
It was never explained. One theory is that he's been released at least once during the classic timeline where he killed all the old cast and something caused him to be resealed. And even that's fan-theory with nothing to back it up officially.

It was stated that Zero never killed anyone important in classic

I'm not sure how I feel about the lack of a cataclysm. There's a weird gap between MM and MMX that needs some explaining. Nothing and no one from the early games is really still around (Light's holograms are it), but it hadn't been that long.

There's a possibility that Zero could've trimmed down the cast of the old series, considering how he's awake and fully functional when Sigma finds him.

What's the timeline anyway?

Mega Man > X Series > Legends
right?

...

I thought legends was an alternative timeline. In any case Zero followed X and ZX followed Zero.

No.
It just doesn't make sense that X wouldn't mention anything about his past
Their personalities are way too different.

We already know that Wily created Zero as a replacement for Bass, it's same to assume Light did the same.

>Regular Timeline
Classic > X > Zero > ZX > Legends
>Timeline where Dr. Light was a computer specialist instead of Robotics
Battle Network > Star Force

It's still a little weird to me that they're not.

Makes me wonder about what happened to Rock, and whether he really "counted" as being alive at all.

>mfw X shows up in the old mega man cartoon series and fucks up vile's time shenanigans

Classic and X takes place way far apart from each other. It's not that hard to wrap your head around

It's not complicated AT ALL. It's simple as fuck. Why is Cred Forums so retarded?

I like them all, though I feel like "Mega Man and Bass" in particular doesn't get the love it deserves,

What happened to the old cast then? Specially Rockman

It's presumed that they got decommissioned and Dr. Light died of old aged.

For a while.

Got wiser though.

Reading anything longer than 3 sentences makes the the underage pretenders brain go boom.

No one knows. There's no lore between the games except for everyone being dead and seemingly forgotten. The "cataclysm" is from a fan comic, where Zero goes nuts when he's activated, kills most of the cast.

As long as Wily dies before Light, there's a way for them to just fade out. Wily probably has one last surprise for his death (if the maverick virus doesn't count as it), since he already did that in MM7. After cleaning that mess up, there's no purpose for most of the cast, eventually they break down and Light isn't around to fix them anymore.

MM&B's difficulty was off the wall compared to previous Mega Man games, and the only non-JP release was on the GBA which added even more difficulty due to not being able to see the entire playfield at once.

the coolest shit

Astro Boy GBA had better robo-future lore than anything in Mega Man

>MM&B's difficulty was off the wall compared to previous Mega Man games

I don't remember it being too hard or too easy, but the only other MM games I got to legitimately beat on a console were the first two.

He's a robot, he goes beep boop and saves the world
Then there's that other robot, he goes beep boop and destroys the world.
Then there's that last robot, he goes beep boop and only sometimes he destroys the world.

He's not just a robot. He's a SUPER FIGHTING ROBOT

DA DA DA DA

MEGAMAN!

Just wait until ZX, even I lost my understanding of the story then.

Play the games?
