Very good jrpg and the best of the XIII trilogy. A bit easy but very fun. Soundtrack, game play, and characters are gr8

13 was great though. It's a pretty complex game.

This I DISAGREE 100%. The fact that you can freely explore actually somewhat open levels, in more or less free order, without having to deal with severely dumped down, locked gameplay for 20 hours, makes the pacing sooo much better than in OG.

Eh, it can be a bit hit or miss. I´m personally a sucker for time-travel stuff.
And while I did dig XIII and its story, it´s at times painfully obvious at times that Square had made some CG scenes long before building a story and world around them.

I played xiii and this purely because of the locations and música, that said, Noel and caius are genuinely good characters, noel dream was by far the best part of the game, and caius stoy is pretty fucking sad

The story is retarded and some of the sidequest are horrible and tedious, but the combat in my opinion is very good. If you tolerated XIII you'll love this game because the combat is faster and more functional in general.

Should you have played the first one? I didn't and I enjoyed this game just fine. The story is far enough separated from XIII that it might as well not even be a sequel to it.

How much Lightning is in it? Not much at all but her sister is a qt.

2) No, LR was not meant to be anything else than a FFXIII-3. They just took inspiration from elsewhere, while listening to complains about the past titles + experimenting with new stuff for future titles.

Sounds to me like you didn't explore either game fully. All 13-2 had going for it was that it wasn't as linear. The hub and multiple worlds approach meant that character and story arcs were often picked up and then dropped as you had to leave to explore another world in order to advanced the plot in the world you were on. The character progression system also got an unnecessarily complex customization with the bonus attributes system, but it also made for instant role changes impossible as any customization you wanted to do were long term and permanent. As someone who's played both extensively, 13-2 isn't as good as 13, mechanically or thematically.

I played this fucking game, and by the time we made it to the fields, it was too little too late. THe combat was semi interesting, but switching between partner groups ALL THE FUCKING TIME was bad. Plus, these are some of the flattest characters ever, hardly any arc from any of them.

I thought 13-2 was the worst of the bunch. A pretty big step down in a lot of ways compared to the original

When people think of side quests in FF, they think of stuff like VII's chocobo breeding and golden saucer, IX's chocobo hot and cold, VI's gog side quest etc. To be fair, XIII-2 had a casino of sorts, and had an arena. But the arena was mostly DLC content which was super lame. And that's about it

I dunno. It doesn't feel like they actually fixed anything. And in some areas they made things worse. People hated how you had to read through the datalog in XIII to understand the plot. XIII-2 takes it a step further and incorporates stuff from a light novella they released seperately. Can't even read about it in game. The visuals (on the PS3 version anyway) were actually worse than the first game, -and- the game ran more poorly. Awful frame rate issues. I mean what?

And my biggest disappointment was the time travel aspect. It's soo poorly conceptualized. The appeal of time travel is that you get to see how the same areas in different time periods change and grow. But in XIII-2, the majority of the time, time skips take you to completely different locations as well. Meaning there's no actual impact of time travel because there's no sense of change.

I don't care what the combat system is that much, but that looks ridiculously stupid. I can mash the attack button in an action RPG but 13-2 looks turn based and restricted in movement making the mashing more obvious. It's way too limited. I played FF4 but at least it wasn't choosing magic for me

I liked Sarah as the protag and what we got to see of older Hope, but honestly I didnt like much else. The pacing of the story made the game drag on, Noel was annoying, and I never liked the battle system that XIII and XIII-2 used. The ending was cool, and I like what the game added to the overall plot of the trilogy, but other than that I just got very bored with this game. Im playing LR now and it's a huge improvement imo.

A sequel to a hated game before it was release and then hated again for restricting the player in how they play. The sequel gave you more freedom and ended up being unfocused mess. And the third game is a wank made a waifufag, but Tri-ace made it and it felt like a Valkyrie Profile sequel so I'm happy

Again, you're missing the point of what the battle system is supposed to be. The strategic part comes in assembling the right mix-ups of combat roles and deciding the right time to switch them. Think of it less as a turn-based battle system and more of a mini-rts. You decide the units and then they act without you. The option to input commands is only in there for the people who's mastered the battle system.

That's really not how it works

XIII is about using abilities in a specific way to optimally raise the enemy's stagger meter, which then allows you to combo properly once they've been staggered

Enemies and bosses have somewhat unique stagger requirements and properties, though it's handled much better in XIII-3 than in the earlier games. Mashing auto attack is actually a very poor way to play the game, especially since certain character have faster/slower attack and cast animations, so you need to pick abilities they can execute more quickly to optimally 5 star encounters, and auto battle doesn't accomodate for that

if you don't care about 5 starring bosses, then yeah, you can coast through the game. but that's true for most FF's
