I used many variations of it, like adding an "a" at the end was my basic name for female characters. "on" at the end for paladin like characters.

Later on for WoW I wanted a new name since an cartoon had come out that used the name that I had icome up with, so people started thinking I got the name from that anime, and people started taking that name.

I decided that I wanted around 5-6 letters for the name, that it should be unique and it should start with the same letter as my brothers gaming name.
A short for his name was a three letter name, and I wanted one that functioned in the same way.

I had the first 2 letters set, then I tried various combinations fro the 3rd letter, it had to be a consonant.
After that I made a long list of all possible names that could be made out of that by adding around 2-3 letters.
I tested each name in google.
Those that came up with results I discarded.
Then later on I chose one of the names that didn't show up with any results.
