I have a limited budget, is 1440p really that much of an improvement over 1080p?
I know 144hz will be smoother but that only applies to CS, TF2 and Overwatch. Not a lot will actually take advantage of the hz. And TN monitors have inaccurate colors and terrible angles.
But 1440p actually makes text smaller and is not the standard resolution yet for most things. IPS monitors apparently have the best colors though. (suffers in response)

That is true. If only there was side by side comparisons of TN colors vs IPS colors. I saw one video but the guy was cheating because the TN monitor was 50 million dollars and had better specs than most TNs.
And also there will be more time spent browsing and doing other stuff besides 3 games. So it's still hard for me to decide.

144Hz is probably the greater improvement now, but keep in mind that 1440p will likely become the default resolution within a couple of years.

Yeah I looked at a lot of 1440p comparisons and I cannot tell the difference at all with 1080p.
The only drawback with TN monitors apparently is worse colors. The card and the cpu already cost me a lot, so being restricted to 1080p feels really shitty too. I'm planning to get a 27" monitor too which means pixels.

And unlike what most people claim, it's not "only" useful for twitchy games, because everything will be more confortable to look at at 144Hz.
But yes, the difference really does shine in FPS and racing games.
Go for 4K. Otherwise you don't get enough graphics in your video card to render the game. 1080P looks like Satan's balls now.
Am I crazy in thinking 1440p will be skipped and the next step up from 1080p would be 4k instead? I mean even the consoles are trying to do it. I doubt 1440p will be mainstream when 4K already kinda is.

Those ones you see which are dark and have muddy colors are like the TN's. And the bright and colorful ones are like the IPS equivalent.
Really, gaming on a 1440 IPS is great. Some games are a new experience from those restored colors.

I went for 1440p. A 27" 1440p monitor has about the same pixel density as a 21" 1080p monitor, looks quite nice.
I'm still not used to shit running at over 60FPS and a low framerate has never really bothered me as long as it stays relatively consistent and at least 30FPS or so. I'm probably the exception to the rule here in hat regard but whatever.

144hz would be a huge improvement too, but it's only for a few games. For me, TF2, CS and Overwatch are probably the only games that will require that much. Aside from those 3, the monitor would just be a standard 1080p that everyone else has.

I recently bought an Asus 144hz monitor yet I can't seem to get it to work with my system. I have an i5 and a GTX 960 yet when I plug it in with display port I can't get any games to load. Like with Overwatch it will stay on the login screen. Once I waited long enough to get into the menu but it won't even load the character splash or hero gallery.
It works fine with DVI of course. Do I just need to upgrade my video card?

Well there's 120hz IPS but the power for modern FPS isn't quite there yet without graphical compromises.

The korean monitors don't have an OST so the response time is decent. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 5ms and 1ms.
