The best free to play games are the ones that let you shell out other people's cash via some sort of in-game transaction. For Warframe, it's trading mods or orokin stuff for Platnum. For RuneScape, it's paying GP for bonds (which can in turn let you get more membership time with which to make more GP to get more bonds)
