the tits surpassing head size is uggo if not entirely unrealistic (at least until she stops keeping them in a bra) but she didn't really have a useful amount of armour in the first place, nor in useful places, so dropping that is just dropping dead weight. Also nothing wrong with the see through "toga" on a practical level, not sure which I like better aesthetically though.

The real problems I see are the shoes getting progressively worse each game, and above all the stance getting much worse. in the first game she's in a real combat stance, legs apart for, the sword ready but not raised and her hoplon facing forward and held ready to deflect from any part of her upper body; by the second her leg placement is bad and her stance is more relaxed, but she's probably just not battle-ready there; by the third her leg AND arm placement are both full-retard even for a casual stance; in the fourth leg placement is slightly improved over the third but she has her eyes closed; and in the last she has the sword raised where she will slice her own neck or, if she's "lucky," her face if she trips, she is clearly walking forward with a clumsy stance, and she is NOT LOOKING WHERE SHE IS GOING. She is (hopefully) not even in combat and she is going to lose.

And as Sophitia's design became really stupid, Hilde shows up to highlight how ridiculous it is because she's a serious military leader covered in full armor.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having sexy fanservice characters in a game with a large ensemble cast, provided you're not at the same time ruining other characters to make everyone sexy fanservice. Variety is good, and that goes both ways.

And yes, there's a difference between a character's primary outfit, which is supposed to be their default representation, and something like optional swimsuit costume DLC or create-a-character.

Situations are going to be different depending on the time and place. That's fairly obvious. Kojima also addressed Quiet's outfit to the people that didn't like it, but there opinions didn't change. The people who liked Quiet to begin with still like her now.

When it's just a fuckload of fat on the front of you and you haven't got overdeveloped back muscles it's a problem. I mean comparing someone who is very light with very little fat or muscle, someone who is 250 pounds with mostly fat and someone who is 250 pounds with mostly muscle, all the same height, you would expect the light person and the muscular person to both run faster and have better endurance than the fat person because they aren't hauling around 150 pounds of fat with no muscle to support it.

The designers wanted her to be dressed like that. Internal consistency only matters in fictional settings that are actively attempting to emulate reality, and even then they don't have to restrict themselves to some form of consistency. Dead Rising's a perfect example.

Just saying "it's fantasy" doesn't stop it from being shitty design. Because fucking Lord of the Rings is also fantasy but it also maintains a sense of internal logic. That's not too much to ask out of a fantasy setting, everything follows the same rules as ours until you introduce a fantasy element that changes the rules. Characters who engage in swordfighting do so because they know that sharp metal things can cut flesh so they either wear armor that can stop or mitigate said pointy sharp things or they have some sort of magic or supernatural element that makes them less susceptible to it. Give me that or the favor of the gods that makes the character feel they don't need armor. Give me something to work with. Mitsurugi doesn't wear armor either but he's easier to swallow because his body is littered with scars from previous battles. Making it easier to take it as "oh he's seen a lot of combat and he's just so good that no one can quite kill him in a fight." His design reflects his character.

I liked SC2 and 3 the most overall myself. The extra game modes were more fun, I liked the character designs better, and I feel like the character models themselves looked better. I really hate how everyones eyes and face started to look in 4 and 5. It pretty much ruins everyone for me.

When we're talking about character design in a fictional, especially fantasy, setting, it should still strive to be consistent with the character's personality. If it's contradictory (unless it's deliberately contradictory for reasons that are actually explained and not just because) then it's shitty design.

Different fantastical settings are written by different people. That's the point of fantasy, you can have it either be strict and follow a specific guideline and craft a complex lore or you can just go all out and be goofy. Or both, if you want.

The problem with this idea is that you're using todays' dressing/personality standars and applying them to a game based to a fantasy version of the past.

Yes, a pure maiden and mother wouldn't dress scantily in our actual society because it's frowned upon, but in other societies with other standars that could very much be the normal decency expected. In fact, considering that most characters in the games either are heavy-armured or completely disregard any common decency I'd say it's quite consistent with the game's background.

Odysseus used his wiles a lot more than actual battle skills, Achilles was almost invincible so you can't use him, but a picture of Ajax the Greater who wore more or less the same would probably be a better example, or perhaps the real Pat, Agemennon, or Menelaus, but I'd say Ajax the Greater is the bettter example of an actual warfighter

5 is the best, however, only if you're willing to put time on it. There are custom textures and patterns that can be applied to the clothing, alongside objects that can be positioned anywhere. In order to make good looking characters, you often need to have a good idea of what you're going for. SC5 also has full body customization form height to changing specific body parts aside from the face, which can only be chosen from presets.

SC4 is the easiest one to make good looking characters, but only because there are less layers than in the other games, with many outfits coming already pre-baked, like a shirt and armor together. Also, SC4 for some reason doesn't have any shorts for girls which is a pretty odd but notable absence. The body can be wider or slimmer (for women, it gives them bigger breasts too), more or less muscular, but that's it.

SC3 actually allows more variety in customization than SC4, since there are more layers and also more moveset options. However, faces look kind of odd and outfits are significantly less detailed than what you can get in SC4 (or SC5 once you add patterns or decals). It does have 12 or so moveset options exclusively for custom characters, while SC4 has none and SC5 only has one. No body sliders though, every custom character has the same body, only face options.

SC3's voice options can't be customized, only 4 options per gender, but they have different quotes depending on class and alignment (which is based on your equipment).

SC4's voices can be made lighter or deeper, and actually changes them also changes some of their quotes.

SC5 has more voice options than SC4, and you can change their pitch too. However, unlike SC4, which had pre-recorded variations, SC5 uses just an electronic pitch editor, so there aren't variable quotes and if you try to change the voices too much they generally end up sounding electronic.

The artist is the actual character designer. Blame the modelers or art director who doesn't even attempt to follow his art. The in-game models seem to attempt to go for a more uniform and realistic style.
