What CRPGs are you playing?

Is there a more punchable term than CRPG?

I'm currently trying Wizardry 8 for the first time. Taking it -very- slowly but loving every minute. I'm something like 8-10 hours through and only at the first town after leaving the tutorial place. I love getting granular and taking everything in in these older games. Any recommendations for CRPGs with fleshed-out and interesting worlds to explore?

JRPG

Playing Might and Magic 6 and an Eye of the Beholder 2 remake for Neverwinter Nights.

Looking forward to Expeditions: Viking and Copper Dreams.

"Phil Fish".

Might and Magic 6 sounds right up your alley. Tons of secrets in and outside dungeons and lots of things to explore.

anime fan

I dont see gothic in your picture

There's a lot of games not in that picture i tooknit from the last thread.

Have been fucking around with Prelude to Darkness for a few hours. And I mean, I'm sure this game has some values... somewhere. But I don't think I can put up with this combat. Or the controls. Or the camera angle randomly changing on reload so I have to sit there for a few seconds to figure out where the fuck was I. Or, well, the game shitting itself all the fucking time. But really, that combat system has to be the single most abysmal turn based combat I ever had the misfortune to experience. And okay, the game is free. But this wasn't always the case, they used to sell this thing for money.

On an unrelated note, I wonder why the two characters I rolled are pitch black, but the one that was pre-made white. Not that it really matters, but it's strange. There is no skin-color option during character generation, and the two characters I made have nothing in common, not in bloodline, skills, class, gender, hair color, whatever. So it's pretty strange.

I'd give it a shot if it wasn't so prone to crashing.

To be fair, it ctd'd only once while I was playing. But it likes to freeze, especially while I'm trying to save manually. Maybe relying only on autosaves would be the best.

Does Avernum have better combat than Geneforge?

>Pool of radiance: ROMD

Remove that shit and add the orginal Pool of radiance.

>grandpa shit
I'll enjoy my better looking hard drive wiping piece of shit

There are a metric fuckton of CRPGs on GOG. Nearly all of them are rated 4-5 stars due mostly to nostalgia, making it hard to tell which are actually worth playing. I want to play some comfy CRPGs on my laptop in bed, any suggestions? The only requirement is that they don't take too much reflex mouse action or have a pause function.

MOBA

I like neoscavenger, but I am just so bad at it. So much is also left up to chance it feels.

Might and Magic 6-8
Wizardry 6-8
Gothic 1 and 2
Geneforge series
Avernum series
Jagged Alliance 2
King of Dragon Pass

Some of these can be played completely with a keyboard and some are turn-based.

Legend of Grimrock

>grimrock on a touchpad
good luck drawing spells mid combat

>using a mage

All of them are good. Get Eye of the beholder I & II while you at it. Very relaxed Dungeon crawlers. Get the automapper tool, too.

>not having a balanced party

>minmaxing in a RPG
you're doing it wrong

>a balanced party is now minmaxing

Since when is not playing like a total idiot considered minmaxing?

>lash out to someone because he role-plays
>get mad when called out for being a faggot
lel

You are literally delusional

Why is this game so comfy?

>role-playing as a retard

Age of Decadence

why can't I enjoy witcher 3? It just seems so boring to me. I can barely play ten minutes without getting so bored out of my mind I quite. The combat really irks me. I started up KOTOR for the first time since I was a kid last night and the combat in that is much much more satisfying. Am I autistic?

Thanks,

J.R. Dipper

Oh boy, bought and played that, but the fun lasted only for like 8 hours. Totally overpriced for a 20e game.

You are autistic for enjoying KOTOR combat but yes I couldn't get into Witcher 3. I think I'm just burnt out on storyfag games.

>No Spiderweb Software games

Fuck all of you.

>Am I autistic?
If you think Kotor's combati is good then yes

6&7 were by far the best in the series.
Though I preferred 7 over 6...
But both are amazing and extremely comfy games.

user, OP even called it
>shitpic

I also very much enjoy morrowind's combat

>pic
They all pretty bad
except NEO maybe, kinda like concept

What did you begin with?

>They all pretty bad
faggot

dnd is shit

Hey now, it's just his opinion. Just ask him why he doesn't like them.

You'd be surprised how much fun the game gets when trying out different backgrounds and stats

That still leaves half the games in that pic.

I can't remember the class names as all RPGs try to be unique nowadays, but I think I tried warrior, rogue and that politician class.

>different stats
You mean either full combat or full peace stats? I didn't get the feeling you could do anything properly unless you specialized heavily.

You can do quite a lot of hybrid stuff, like for example using persuasion/trading/streetwise skills in the Imperial Legion, but for beginners it's recommended to specialise.

I can understand people getting turned off, though. Sometimes it feels too text-heavy and kind of forces you to quick load and spoil yourself on different options.

>half the games in that pic
More than half of them at least dndish, amirite?

I hope you are merely pretending

You played 3 different characters in 8 hours?

After finishing the game with a combat build and a non-combat build, playing as a hybrid class lets you have access to the all the content the game has to offer. You just have to take all the advantages you can get to maximize you SP count in order to become OP.

I wouldn't give the game another shot right now if you got bored with a character after 3 hours only though. Maybe it's not your kind of game.

Maybe. I try play almost all games from pic, but find out that they all boring. And i can't say why.

Betrayal at Krondor is good.

It's not very long at least.

>What CRPGs are you playing?
Underrail.

>Which ones are you looking forward to?
Expansion for Underrail.

Considering you haven't posted an RPG or even a pic of one that you like, maybe you're in the wrong thread

I would argue Jagged Alliance 2 is an RPG. Or at least a strategy game/RPG hybrid.

>TRPG doesn't exist

made up genre by gooks

finally started Wasteland 2 DC. I never finished the standard edition. I'm liking how you're pretty much free to solve problems how you like it most of the time. I recall a time when I had no internet at the time so I couldn't ask anyone about the code in the door at Darwins Village, I had no idea what the passcode was. I really didn't want to killed all those infected mutants for nothing so instead of going back, I blew that fucking door open with a Sabot Rocket or whatever it was. It worked, shit was so cash.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlesystem

I didn't play the game completely through with each character. I'm also a very first reader, can read 200-300 page books in a couple hours, on one train trip. I believe it's my kind of game fundamentally, but I believe it is just badly designed and lacking proper budget.

it's because witcher 3's combat is dogshit. bloodborne is a lot better.
now imagine bloodborne's combat in a witcher 3 open world.

very fast* reader, if someone didn't understand

World of Xeen is also very comfy. I love the setting and how colorful that one is.

Badly designed in what way?

This.

Not playing much at the moment- I'm working on my own vidya.

But I am really looking foward to Expeditions Viking and Underrail expansion.

Also, the Voidspire sequel thing.

>I'm working on my own vidya.
Some walking simulator?

Fuck that noise, man! I'm making a dungeon game!

Well, on my first playthrough I got stuck when I didn't have the right stats to proceed and no ways to increase them. When I couldn't find anything I googled. Had to restart.

I understand you are not supposed to be able to beat the game with just any stats, but I had specialized in things that had made sense in my mind so it was a big let-down. I had some other issues, but it's hard to recall.

Like Wizardry, M&M, Dungeon Master, or something else?

Just a roguelike.
But it's a relatively 'lightweight' one- It's my first ever game. I'm hoping it'll be fun.

Is there diagonal movement?

Wasteland 3 is not going to do as well as 2 did on crowdfunding and that is a bit of a shame

Right now no. It's still in super early stages so the rules aren't set in stone yet.

But, I think sticking it to Orthogonal directions only might make for some mechanics.

>make for some FUN mechanics

god damn I need to sleep

I started playing Gothic for the first time last night. I almost gave up because of the camera/controls but I'm glad I persevered because I'm enjoying it now. At the moment I'm just running around slaughtering critters before continuing questing in the Swamp Camp and New Camp.

On a related note, was anyone able to make the DX11 renderer work with Gothic 1? I could only run the game for ~10 minutes before the screen would go black.

Still need to finish my first playthrough of BG2. I'm on the Mind Flayer dungeon on Chapter 5. My party kinda sucks so it's a save-crawl slugfest right now.

Also NEO Scavenger because that game is addictive as fuck. Really wish it was more /k/ related though. It takes place in the U.S. I don't see why guns are so rare in the game.

Nah I had some issues with the DX11 renderer for both gothic games. The older renderers seemed to work fine for Gothic 2 but the system pack is good enough for me. Reminds me I need to finish my G2 dragon slayer playthrough.

Underdark is a pain in the ass if you don't know what spells to bring. Rest of the game is pretty easy after that though.

>I don't see why guns are so rare in the game.
Sometimes it's hard to find some fucking shoes.

I Am Setsuna and Dragons Dogma. They're RPGs installed on my computer.

Does it really need to when WL2 did well enough to warrant console ports of all things? And a re-release?

I wish we had more RPGs with WL2's squad building and tactical style combat, its fun.

I don't know If HBS is planning another shadowrun game, But seeing as how the other three were successful, I don't see why they wouldn't.
So that, if it ever exists.

Well I do hope they'll make it happen

>I don't see why guns are so rare in the game.

>Game set around Detroit
>Confused as to why there are so few guns

Boy, I wonder why. Just go hang around and the City and make the Merga fight DMC patrols or something.

They're working on a Battletech game right now.

There's a lot of indie tactical turn based RPGs. We don't see many AAA ones anymore because "muh immersion" and difficulty implementing them on consoles.

Yeah the game is fine without the renderer but I really liked the shadows in G1.

Gothic 2 is a nice visual upgrade even without the renderer

And here are some pics with the fancy renderer

...

...

can't decide a good build to playthrough BG + BG2 + TOB, I'll play maybe 2 hours with a new character and decide I don't like him and want a new one

berserker specced in two handed weapons
roll with spider's bane in BG1 and get lilarcor at the start of BG2
if you're playing OG BG1 go fighter

I've already completed the saga as a Berserker on my first playthrough, desu I don't like pure fighters they are really boring in Baldur's Gate

Unmodded BG has no class kits and fighter/mage is lame in BG1.

I played EE my friend

>mfw can't get past the first dungeon in arena

Strange, I could have sworn that's exactly how it looked even without some fancy renderer.

I think i had to turn down shadows for the pic so it didn't cast dynamic shadows on players. Pic related is vanilla.

never played gothic, this looks like some next level shit

This too

How? It's actually a pretty simple tutorial dungeon. No puzzles at all, all you have to do is find the door. And not only there is some quite decent loot to be found if you decide to explore, but the whole place has a safe resting zone like every two steps.

I downloaded it of the UESP and the control scheme is fucked, so it's more difficult.

Posting Stargate is cheating. That shit looks 10/10 no matter what.

Ah yeah, I don't think you can rebind keys. That's kind of shitty but you'll get used to it. You did decrease the CPU speed though, right? I remember DOSBox runs it at something like 20k, which makes the game crazy fast. You will be dead before you could even swing your weapon once.

The first two are very atmospheric games. First one takes place entirely in a prison colony and second one takes place on the rest of an island while humanity is losing a war against orcs. "Gothic" describes the games pretty well.

I think I am gonna try playing Gothic now. Is there any reason to not just go with the steam or gog version? Do I need some Arx Libertatis sort of overhaul mod that fixes issues on newer systems?

All you need is the system pack to fix any compatibility issues but it requires the player kit which can be found on worldofgothic iirc. Also the keyboard controls can be a bit of a pain at first but you'll get used to them and they'll feel natural after a while.

You can play vanilla if you want, there isn't any essential mod that improves the game by any meaningful amount. You can use the DX11 renderer if you want, for some people it helps, for others it makes things worse.

However in the case of Gothic you really want to stick with the GOG version over Steam. GOG's Gothic is more stable.

Steam version is fine with system pack. I think GOG's might just already come with an older version.

DOSbox lets you rebind keys for any game i'm pretty sure.

It didn't for arena
The speed of the game was fine. I could kill a few of the goblin thingies easily.

I put more than 200 hours into the game. You clearly haven't seen much yet.

Ctrl+F1 or forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/2848459-rel-tes-arena-remapped-modernized-controls-for-arena/

Ranger/Cleric is a lot of fun.
>buffs/debuffs
>damaging spells
>some summoning
>still capable in melee

It's the cheesiest class combo

I expect the ability to kick and throw items

Basic controls:
Non combat mode
Highlighted objects/npcs can be interacted with action button+forward key (picking up items talking to npc etc)
If you want you can rebind stuff in a way that lets you basically play one handed (mouse camera helps tho)
Combat mode
Space or number keys assigned to different spells weapons enable it, to be able to do damage you must be focused on the enemy, hold action key and press a directional key, its based on timing so forward does combo attacks (better ones unlock after you train weapon skill) or you can chain left to right attacks, backwards is block or dodge if you dont hold action key

I'm playing Baldur's Gate 1. Almost done, just doing the expansion pack stuff before moving on to the end. Wondering if I made a huge mistake with going pure cleric, since people say they're bad, but I've been having a pretty good run with this one.

punchable

Nothing wrong with clerics although a fighter/cleric dual class might be more effective in BG2.

>upset with an eighties term that's literally just means a roleplaying game on a computer.

That's some opinion, user.

No kit or are you playing Vanilla?

Priest Of Lathander, using...TuTu, I think it was. One of the ones that ports BG1 into BG2's engine.

I always see Betrayal at Krondor in these lists, but never any discussion about it. What makes it so great?

>play BG:EE and love it
>never play BG2 because I'd have to get the EE with all its supposed problems to import my old character, and people anyway say my kensai single class is shit and that I'll get rekt

puzzle chests
good writing

>Torment has good writing
>drop it because I find it uninteresting
>Krondor has good writing
>drop it because I find it uninteresting too

It's such an incredibly disappointing feeling.

toon

Do you mean Planescape Torment? I don't know how you could find that uninteresting,

You'll be fine but you might start to get bored in ToB where cleric spell aren't as fun as mage and they're still stuck with 1 apr when warrior get 10 with hla

Try geneforge

ToB is boring in general compared to SoA.

you can win with the shittiest of characters its not that hard

is there any fun NEO mod where i can farm?

>people anyway say my kensai single class is shit and that I'll get rekt
People are retarded and will say a class is shit because the most broken class are better
I agree, only managed to complete it once, I find epic level D&d pretty boring in general

It just didn't click with me. The writing was good, but for the life of me I couldn't make myself care about anything that was happening.

Well, this is the problem with story-centric games. When story takes the backseat to gameplay, personal taste doesn't really come into play. But once the focus is on the story itself, it can be just as hit or miss as any book or movie.

I did, and I loved it. Although I wouldn't really say the quality of the writing was good like in the case of Torment and Krondor.

What do you mean?

Might and Magic 7 & 8 were also great.

Pretty similar to 6 in most ways, just don't play 9.

>get all druid spells and cleric spells without any restrictions
cleric/mage is probably worse with sequencer

9 isn't the worst thing ever. It still has some of that Might and Magic charm. It's just clearly unfinished.

Is it more cheesy than spike traps though

Playing Gothic II Velaya mod.

I can't bring myself to play a fanfiction mod, especially when it turns a character whose sole purpose was to be fap fodder (pretty good fap fodder though) into a snowflake protagonist.

But for some curious reason the poles seem to really like it.

slavs love their weird mods

Fuck this looks amazing

I kind if enjoy it after almist 3 playthrus of Witcher, needed something with new quests and where it does not point you right at your objectives, like it was made for 8 year olds, like they do with 'modern' games.

Anyone here play Divinity OS2? Curious about the differences between it and the first game.

Any other CRPGs without walls of text?

Pretty much everything except for a few late '90s RPGs

Sure, most of them.

C-can you name some?

except for maybe geneforge which has a lot of text

Jagged Alliance 2.

The Nameless Mod?
Dark Mod?
Enderal?
Any of the gajillion good quality NWN mods?

I mean, there are other options out there if you absolutely have to play a mod. Most fan campaigns tend to have the decency to at least not be blatantly fanfiction like this one.

Geneforge has a lot of text only if you want to read it though. You can fully explore the game and finish it without ever talking to a single NPC. The only text you will encounter then is the short area description when you enter a map for the first time.

That is true but learning about the island and its inhabitants is the best part.

My first run was basically
>talk with Awakened
>holy fuck these guys are faggots
>talk with Obeyers
>fuck me, these are just as bad
>talk with Takers
>yeah... no
>talk with Goettsch
>surely nothing wrong can come out of this!
>don't talk with Trajkov because language barrier

And this is the story of how I stayed unaligned and became a god. That was when I learned to stop worrying about factions and be a huge nazi in every Geneforge game.

If you like DA:O you might as well check out Neverwinter Nights and the player made modules for it. Just skip the original campaign.

>player made modules
This. Especially A Dance with Rogues.

>A Dance with Rogues
Fuck off.

pleb

>that terrible UI
>those terrible graphics

I'm sorry but i can't ever play these games no matter how good you tell me they are just because how bad they look

Holy shit

What's wrong with it?
ps: kys

...

I just started Planescape.
>Which ones are you looking forward to?
I downloaded UnderRail and Baldur's Gate II. I just hope I can understand Baldur's Gate with out playing the first one.

You should start with the first Baldur's Gate.

I might.

Worth it at least for Durlag's Tower.

You will never experience true RPGkino my friend. Stay bluepilled.

>meme tower

I'm sure he'll live.
But would it be a life worth living?

>meme response

>skipping a the first game in a two part saga
Did you only read the last book of LotR too?

Is this the unskilled pleb general?

Not him, but LotR was the series that made me realize that I have no patience for books that have several plotlines going on, with one always getting the "to be continued" shit for hundreds of pages just as it gets interesting.

And about a decade later The Wheel of Time and Malazan taught me that I do not simply not have the patience for this shit, but hate it with a fucking passion.

I only read the Hobbit because LotR is reads like a history textbook.

>même meme

well memed

So you only read the children's book? kek

Are there any CRPGs with cute girls?

die

A Dance With Rogues
you play as the cute girl

>look it up
>youtube.com/watch?v=aXpDrCQURms
>"what up bitches"
>close video

Is there anything else?

>What's wrong with it?
Too much shill. Otherwise nothing really.
heroine get raped at the beginning of the game

I'm playing this. Does anyone know how to make it run smoothly on Windows 10? Stuttery and unpleasant right now, but I'm loving the game.

>tfw someone saves the picture you made but renames it shitpic.png
Not nice man

learn to scale images and don't put the 2001 version of pool of radiance on it my man

it's tasteful rape so it's okay

Yea I just made it for that thread, I was planning on just using one of the rpg codex collages next time

minmaxing is the truest form of roleplay

Did you get the unofficial patch?

You're my white friend for life.
