Quake 3 Arena is the original FPSMOBA

So TF2 is a moba now?

/littletimmy/RTSfag/ here.

All they do is play league. They admitted that they wouldnt know what to do with their free time if League ever ended.

We dont talk anymore. Everytime id ask them to hang out or do something else , "nah, in a game." They wouldnt even have to tell me what game. I knew.

I also invited them to a party and they brought their laptops and watched LCS instead of fucking drunk girls.

Casual games both of them. One is who ever can kite towers the best the other is a press Q to win.

Autistic that play these games think that there popularity makes them better or more "hardcore".

Goddamn, and here I was thinking I was the sperglord.

I'm the first one

I played League from season 2 until the Taliyah released.

It was ok but im done with it. I only had fun when I played with friends anyway.

Never got into DOTA, clocked about 400 hrs in TF2 but dropped it some months after the man vs machine update because I got bored of it.

Played the Overwatch demo, it was good but I would probably drop it too so I didn't buy it.

Haven't bothered with Paladins and probably never will.

I don't get why people play LoL when Dota 2 is vastly superior. Most of the people I know that play LoL fucking hate the game and the company who runs it but since they invested so much time or money into it they can't stop.

and by Overwatch demo I mean the beta.

I used to play LoL some years back before I realized that more often than not I wasn't having fun in matches.
If it weren't for the needlessly long matches, the boring creep farming, the terrible community, the snowballing, the rock-paper-scissors balance, and the worst community in all of video games, they could be fun games.

>Most of the people I know that play LoL fucking hate the game and the company who runs it but since they invested so much time or money into it they can't stop.
But the dota2 players I know are just like that too.

I dislike every multiplayer genre.

I played a game of dota 2 and it was incredibly boring.

The entire genre seems shit and cancerous

Yeah i know.
But its also because LoL is way more simple.
Like every active item does shit (and there are only like 5 that are actually used that have an active) , summoner baby help spells , forgiving and all that.
Got a few Moba playing friends that play LoL (and they hate-love it with a passion) but they found dota just to hard to learn.

Longtime dota 2 player here. I have over 3k hours and LOVE LOVE LOVE the game. I played about 10 matches of League and just couldn't get into it. My question to players of both communities: Is dota actually more complicated? Because to me, when trying League it seemed the exact opposite. Every single fucking ability had some weird stack system built into it and nothing was straightforward. I don't understand where the dota being more complicated argument comes from. Is it just because of our stacks denies pulls and shit?

>My question to players of both communities: Is dota actually more complicated? Because to me, when trying League it seemed the exact opposite. Every single fucking ability had some weird stack system built into it and nothing was straightforward.
It's a little hard to explain. LoL has a lot more complication on the actual abilities and how you interface with them as the player, but in terms of how those abilities and characters interact with the game everything's exponentially more simplistic. LoL characters are primarily just a ton of gimmicks and minigames that translate to "deal damage and stack light CC" once you get past the layer of your own input.

Meanwhile, Dota heroes tend to be mechanically simple and straightforward on the direct player level but impact the characters have on the game is a lot more varied and powerful and creates a lot more situations and counterplay.

I am timmy, fucking kill me

>They admitted that they wouldnt know what to do with their free time if League ever ended.
What sad excuses of life.

Great answer, thanks. So essentially dota is more complicated in meaningful mechanics and league is more complicated in individual abilities?

Literally sunk cost fallacy.

...

MOBAs are a shit, a SHIT
I wish you ass cancer, OP.

>that picture

ASSFAGGOT shit is fucking terrible

t. ex-ASSFAGGOT with 6k combined hours in WC3 dota and dota 2

...

Was a huge player of Infinite Crisis and loved that particular MOBA. Play LoL and HoTS from time to time, but neither can really capture the fun or drive that I had with Infinite Crisis.

I don't hate the genre I just don't think anything worthwhile has come out of it.
I've been playing dota since WC3, not tft, WC3, and I'll tell you right now that game is always the same shit, and the only thing that matters is what the pros and valve decide the meta is, and you follow along you blind dumb sheep.
LOL is the same shit but worse.

>Aeon of Strife Styled Fortress Assault Game Going On Two Sides
ASSFAGGOTS is the most literal and accurate term for the genre.

But companies can't say ASSFAGGOTS in the media, so they changed the name to MOBA.

>Try to get friend to turn from LoL to Dota
>He reluctantly plays
>Constantly complains during the game
>Makes the same mistakes repeatedly
>"When am I going to have fun" ad nauseam
>Still wants to play more games

I don't fucking get it.

>cancer is superior to cancer

enjoy your piece of shit game dotard

not even dota resembles aeon of strife anymore, it's not even remotely accurate

everything else is just copying (and casualizing) dota, so dota clones works out

How come all "dota-likes" feel more like league of legends than dota2?

league is a better and more accessible game

He's right, you know. Fucking drunk girls is something insecure faggots do, while the League players are comfortable enjoying their actual hobbies.

>FPSMOBA
Hello, Generation Z

Because LoL is the simplified version of Dota. Dota has a very steep learning curve associated with it so Dota-clones will copy the more accessible LoL playstyle.

My favourite online battle arena is quake.

Because the masses play LoL. There's no point in trying to win the Dota audience because they're pretty devoted aren't going to budge to a shitty Dota clone.

I tried mobas recently and i still can't understand why people even play this. I see no appeal at all.

League is more twitch reaction based. Spells have a lot less impact I.E. 1/2 second stuns only.
In Dota, you have 4 second stuns lying around a couple of heroes like it's nothing.

so can someone explain to me what mobas actually are?
are they like RTS except every player plays only controlls one hero unit or something?
i especially want to know why they are so popular, and what their appeal is, gameplay and otherwise.
it'd be great if someone could explain that.

play me RIGHT NOW you fucking bitch

They're really boring. All of my friends who have sunk hundreds of hours into them even say they wouldn't play the genre if they weren't playing with friends.

>implying the Dota 2 audience isn't already playing a shitty DotA clone

Never played one. They look kinda shitty. That and free to play games always have the worst communities

>Meanwhile, Dota heroes tend to be mechanically simple and straightforward on the direct player level but impact the characters have on the game is a lot more varied and powerful and creates a lot more situations and counterplay.

This is really true. I still learn new ways to use spells in Dota every now and then.

It attracted alot of the people who played WoW pvp. It's basically that but better in a shorter time that requires less of a grind. Perfect for those teenagers who are becoming adults and can't devote as much time as they used to on their addictions.

It's kind of like playing an ARPG like Diablo or something, but rather than a few classes it's a ton of individual characters to pick from like in a fighting game. You pick a team of 5 and essentially play on a prebuilt tower defense map, there are little paths that autospawned units march down and you have to level up and build your character while escorting the little guys through the lines of towers into their base.

It really has no similarity to RTS over ARPG other than the fact that you can unlock your camera and in Dota you can control multiple units with RTS controls.

You're shitty starcraft mod is just boring.

>he wasted his life at dota2 which is not fun

Should have played LoL, no wonder the assfaggot posters are so angry, they are 2k hours ex-dota2 players, so sad.

I'm not Asian.

Yep. LoL is for the most part meaningless depth via inputs with straightforward game impact, and Dota is significant game-impacting depth with clear and straightforward inputs.

It's just an rts with one unit and a single map.

according to normies and the mass media, LoL popularized and basically started the whole genre.

so of course people are going to copy it

The junk food of vidya

...

>You pick a team of 5 and essentially play on a prebuilt tower defense map, there are little paths that autospawned units march down and you have to level up and build your character while escorting the little guys through the lines of towers into their base.
wait what? i always thought this was a team vs team game where you fight directly against the other teams base (like RTS). so it's more like all teams have the same objective and compete through that?

but again, why is this so popular, so addicting? i can't tell from just what i hear about it. does winning feel very satisfying (like in fighting games) or something?

How am I wrong?

>not Character Action Shooter

The only reason I bought Quake 3 was to play that DBZ Bid for Power mod.

I'm a salty Fighting game baby and I think dota/hearthstone/LoL or anything trending right now but fighting games and RTS are casual no skill garbage. It's funny to joke about with my dota friends though.

Dota has multiple custom maps and heroes that can control multiple units. Meepo can control 5 characters individually and add more with illusions.

>I always thought this was a team vs team game where you fight directly against the other teams base (like RTS
It is, the other team is the biggest thing blocking you from getting into the other base. Your bases are on opposite sides of the map with the same lanes, you try to push across to the other side while defending your side.

Someone very defensive and assblasted made this picture

MOBAs are shit.

There's no real reason to play any of them except Dota and Dota suffers from a bunch of retarded peruvians infesting every server.

So it's an rts?

...

Everything the genre shares with RTS is more directly shared by top-down action RPGs and tower defense games

FEATURING

try smite.

its free, the matches are 50 minutes max (average is like 20-25) farming phase is like 5-10 mins, the community sucks like all gaming communities, there is snowballing, its decently balanced, its characters who can be OP not classes

I could precisely explain why MOBAs are shit games at their core but your image is a obviously a joke anyways.

Regardless, I'm not against the idea of abilities in an FPS. Leveling itself however, is a flawed mechanic. The only way to do a power gain mechanic properly would be to do it the way RTS does with resources. In other words, a good FPS/RTS would be really good.

What about the action rpgs that give you direct control over your character, like victor vran?

I just don't get why people like them so much
>always same map
>extremely long, slow matches
>do the same shit almost every time
>communities are full of faggots who will feed or just act like retards in general
The most fun I had with MOBAs was HoTS because it mixed things up a bit (like actually having different maps that lead to different kinds of play) but even them I get bored pretty easily.

XP is just another resource you have to gather and distribute amongst your team.

>but again, why is this so popular, so addicting? i can't tell from just what i hear about it. does winning feel very satisfying (like in fighting games) or something?
The primary appeal is the satisfaction of pushing advantages and turning them into bigger and bigger advantages. It's a game of trying to gather the most resources and power as possible as quickly as possible while denying that from the other guys, it's got the grindy MMO appeal except it's not as much of a timesink because it's wrapped up into individual 20-40 minute runs and the layer of getting powerful quickly to win rather than just getting powerful in general by grinding adds a lot of thrill.

1.7k here. I still play dota VERY infrequently but its so discouraging when all your friends move on to the next hot meme team based game and your just stuck in pubs

>extremely long, slow matches
>do the same shit almost every time
Why do people only play LoL and shitty LoL clones and then judge the entire genre based on that?

also anyone who doesnt know what mobas are will probably learn what they are the easiest from watching a smite map since its third person and doesnt look as hectic

>why is this so popular
In this case, the most pessimistic answer is the most correct.

Essentially, it boils down to the fact that getting a big ego isn't all that detrimental in this game. It's considerably less detrimental than any other game ever created actually.

It really meshes with the public school mentality actually. School basically trained people to like MOBAs in a fucked up twisted way which is why they play them but also hate them.

>millenial memer

It's a shitty resource because it's based on killing retards instead of acquiring tactical positions.

I like how Dawngate had little worker minions gathering stuff to fuel your passive exp/money. One of the roles got bonus money for hunting those down and if they enemy team wasn't careful they'd fall behind. After the halfway point your team could straight up capture them and it was pretty neat as a thing to fight over.

I also really like the different objectives in HotS like fighting over the sun temples or collecting dubloons/spider coins to activate stuff in the map. The newest one has you collecting Nukes which are the coolest thing yet because you can use them to take a big chunk out of the enemy's base or use them in combat as a zoning tool and a huge chunk of extra damage.

my man
base game is still great though, team arena to

No one gives a rat's ass about Aeon of Strife.

Guess I'm the only one who plays heroes of the storm. I went from DotA on WC3 to HOTS

Don't bother with Smite if you didn't like LoL, it's literally the exact same game but with a different control scheme

Please elaborate.

>original Dawngate promo material said the game was going back to the genre's "RTS roots"
>It was just control points stylized as RTS resource nodes with units you don't even control

>FPSMOBA

wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2016_KeSPA_Cup

I never played mobas.

Not going to start.

Team sports never appealed to me before it was something you could play on the internet, and they still don't.

MOBA's are addiction and nothing more, there is 0 enjoyment in playing MOBA's

My friend just stays up all night, plays DOTA and goes to sleep at 6AM on weekdays and is an overprivelaged shit with no job or profession, so that's why I hate MOBAs.

>played LoL for 2 years
>it started feeling more like a second job and i wanst having fun at all, plus all my friends turned into salty assholes
>uninstalled it and downloaded some singleplayer games
>started having fun again and never went back to MOBAs

I dont really care about any of them, really. I think its been almost 3 years since i left LoL and my friends are still playing. Only one of them ever got higher than silver, though.

>depiste MOBA's taking "no skill" the RTS babby can not get past standard rank

Are you literally retarded?

First of all, Why would i wanna rank up in a shitty game I don't enjoy?

Second, you fail to realize the games don't offer player creativity and room to outplay their opponents, since the game is so static, AND it's team-based while you're playing with random teammates who don't communicate, There is barely any skill happening

You're just flipping a coin every time you queue up hoping you get a better team than your opponents.

Man up, and play a 1v1 game. The only reason you pussies play MOBAshit is because you want to blame your team every time you lose.

Feels lame. Almost every person who is into ASSFAGGOTS is an enormous tryhard or way too competitive even when the game mode isn't competitive at all.

I mostly just hate the brand loyalty mindset that exists in it. You can play SFV and MKX and nobody really bats an eye, but god forbid you play Dota 2 and Smite or some other game of the same genre.

Bigger on Overwatch than Paladins, mostly just because Overwatch is much more polished and I prefer the designs over Paladins.

I enjoy playing Dota 2.

FPSASSFAGGOTS would be garbage like Paragon.

HATSUNE MIKU

I never played a pokemon game before. Is there anything in those games besides grinding?

is that doug from scrubs

Ask yourself this: Do you actually enjoy DOTA 2? (or any moba) ??

OR are you:

>Only playing it because your friends' play it
>Only playing it for the false sense of accomplishment when you win
>Playing it out of habit, because you spent so much time/money on it already
>Spend more time watching dota streams/vids than actually playing it

it's fun as a communal activity

I prefer old school WoW raiding as a communal activity, but most people are poorfags now

Can I just get an arena shooter on pc I don't know how people enjoy these "class shooters"

In dota taking towers is acquiring strategic position in map, map control in short.
With good map control (more towers than enemy team in an area) allows you to farm more safely neutral camps, which are points where you gather gold and xp resources.
Seems like you have not done your dota homework.

I enjoyed it a lot too, but the entire focus on esports kind of spoiled it for me. The only updates that happen these days are big balance updates and not just fun events or anything. All the cool cosmetics are also put behind the compendiums, and if you miss it you don't get the items unless it's on the market. I don't see any weather effects on the market though, it's stupid. That stuff shouldn't have been purchasable.

Custom games are cool, but Valve did the SC2 thing and puts certain games on the front page. So it's more of a popularity contest now.

The game itself is the best it's ever been, but I'm just not really looking forward to anything anymore. Nothing new to Dota 2 really makes me go "oh wow that looks awesome" unless it's some big hero rework.

Today I decided I wanted to try to play dota 2 again. Game has 9 peruvians that don't want to push until they finish their items, every player is running the same heroes, and nobody speaks English on US east. The core game is solid but the community for these games suck ass.

>playing the competitive version of a dumbed down mmo

Literally never ever

Ever ever ever

Anyone who plays should be ashamed

>mobas

They aren't mobas, you fucking train wreck of a person.

DOTA is way more fun than lol

Post your favorite dota 2 custom game

I get liking them, but if they're all you play I have no idea how you're not fucking bored

It just makes me laugh to see people talk about DOTA so seriously and technically

There was barely any thought or design put into the map, It was literally a dime-a-dozen "hero war" map from warcraft 3, there were dozens of them. And you got all these people talking about "deep mechanics" and strategy it's really sad that eSports has fallen to this.

this, he is having fun, hes just shit

where's the one for "played and enjoyed them for nearly a decade until it became a normalfag/poorfag dumping ground and not possible to play without a full stack"

the ones that are all better in wc3

I couldn't get into Dota 2. The whole ASSFAGGOTS genre is just underwhelming; I need more complexity in the character mechanics themselves and less in the metagame. I played a lot of Doter back when I was underage b& in WC3, even in Reign of Chaos when it was one of the first maps to exploit the custom spells hack. I'll also go ahead and admit it, I got into Dota because it was easier and less stressful than actual Warcraft 3, just like all the other UMS minigames. Just like you.

And Dota was hardly the best minigame. The best map I played was probably Night of the Dead: Aftermath. Even among other ASSFAGGOTS, Dota was rivaled if not exceeded by Tides of Blood and Battleships.

Wc3 with the micro, macro, multitasking, and personal accountability removed.

What if I tried ASSFAGGOTS once, and just didn't like it?

Yeah, same here. I sucked too much and didn't have the drive to git gud in warcraft 3 so I played Dota.

Nothing wrong with that, as long as you can admit it. The people i hate are the super elitists who act like DOTA is the most skilled game to ever exist, gimmie a break.

Warcraft 3, and starcraft clearly took a million times more skill than dota does.

thats Aleksandr Pistoletov

you are getting to philosophical over a videogames

>Only playing it because your friends' play it
Play it mostly solo, sometimes I invite friends.
>Only playing it for the false sense of accomplishment when you win
why do i live if im going to die
>Playing it out of habit, because you spent so much time/money on it already
I have spent 0 on videogames. I would have never started if i didn't want to play the game and enjoy. Played LoL before that, didn't enjoy it.
>Spend more time watching dota streams/vids than actually playing it
I dont watch videogame videos outside of memeing, some technical stuff and maybe some analysis that can be applied not only to videogames.

>Only playing it for the false sense of accomplishment when you win
isn't that all video games? isn't that all things in life honestly?

Games are significantly shorter
Less complex techniques like no jungle warding and courier sniping

Well, here's another one.

>How much time have you spent waiting for games to end in DOTA because you're not allowed to leave a match?

That's really the kicker for me. You and I both know probably 1/4th of total MOBA playtime is being played by pissed off people who just want the game to end and move on to the next match.

THAT, is pathetic, and is a big reason why I think this genre is a huge cancer. There's no other video game genre in the world that does this.

>FPSMOBAs like Overwatch

Worst thing to happen to the video game industry since CoD4.

>played both
>league was dumbed down so much it wasn't fun
>doto was fun until you came across a smurfing invoker/tinker with refresher

>the salt in this pic

LoL

you are making shit up
I have actually had the most fun losing with friends because the game turns into a shitfest and sometimes we even win which makes it even better.
And when I'm playing solo i still try to win no matter how shit things are and even if i don't i get the satisfaction of denying the enemy a easy win.
Maybe you should accept the fact that not everybody is a shitlord like you.

That's why it's the biggest esport
With the exception of feeding you basically just described about every sport known to man.

denial: the post

Once you're behind the enemy has such a massive advantage you're forced to either AFK in base or just feed them more killing sprees because they have a million more items and stats than you, you can't do anything to fight back.

>you are making shit up
>Maybe you should accept the fact that not everybody is a shitlord like you.
I most revert to old post to disprove you. This "argument" is over.

I like how this tried to be biased against "the one who was left behind" but failed because it states right there that MOBAfags ONLY play fucking MOBAs, over and over again.

>ASSFAGGOTS (reddit made this one)

>faggots are this new

What one is this?

filename made me giggle more than it should

I've only played HotS.
It's pretty fun. Haven't touched it in a good while though.
Overwatch was fun for a few hours, but man it got tiring.

Where do I fall if I played dota and similar games for 5 years and decided that its time to move on to other games.

rts is literally the only genre i enjoy watching being played at the competitive level. shit is impressive.

HOTS is none of these, hence its the best moba out there

Eh

A book you've read

>while the League players are comfortable enjoying their actual hobbies

My actual sides

>putting RTS in the same category of "assfaggots"
kys OP

I hate assfaggots because of people that play them. Dota2 is a great game on it's own. For years LoL was great as well (something like 2010-2013 I guess?). But the people. THE PEOPLE. You can't imagine worse people than assfaggoters. Post-closed beta people in DOTA2 totally ruined the game for me. I won't touch assfaggots with a stick because of demographics it attracts.

Do you want to kiss OP or are you telling others to kiss OP?

>>>/scv/

Uh, actually it's an acronym for kill your self.

>class shooters
I think school shooter is the more common term

>playing for years
>don't even get to gold

wtf? do they just not care

I see, apologies for not speaking underagese

This post and that filename were pretty good bait. Surprised nobody replied.

#1 and proud
MOBAs were a mistake and you should feel bad for playing them

embarrassing

*cool ass faggots

Yeah I didn't get it at first too, horribly confused first time seeing it on chat

It's a different map now user

mobas are fucking garbage

RUN AWAY UNTIL ODDS IN YOUR FAVOR
wowwwieeee what a fun game
cookie cutter builds you look up online and if you dont play them you lose

giant boring timesink of faggots running to safety

...

I don't like assfaggots because they take too goddamn long to resolve, even when you're getting stomped. If I'm getting my shit pushed in, I would prefer if my shame lasted less than half an hour.

That and I've watched tons of LoL videos and I still don't understand how groups of heroes who go all in on each other resolve. The visuals to illustrate damage and typing and aoe and drain and whatnot are completely unintuitive. At least when I get shot at in UT, I know what getting shot is gonna do. I just can't wrap my head around the rainbow vomit that is MOBAs.

>tfw accepted into the DoTA 2 beta
>tfw you rarely play it

Not sure why I even bothered joining. I didn't even play the mod.

so you're comfortably in the never played it and barely has a clue what it's about category

I played a little League in college about four years ago. Wasn't fun, but it was free and I was broke, so I stuck with it longer than I should have.
I don't see the appeal. People give Overwatch and Paladins shit for having little content but LoL is only ever really played on one map. It gets stale quickly and anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded.

They are pretty fun if you're bad and not taking it that seriously.
If you're even slightly good at the game then you're not allowed to have fun. Personally I'm very awful but I enjoy them a lot.

a real question is why people still use "assfaggots" to describe mobas

id ask how the phrase "assfaggots" even relates to moba but i know ill just get a stupid and illogical answer

A real question is why underage are allowed to post on Cred Forums
