In practical terms, there also one of the most important features of the human face in regards to reading emotion. We can get a lot of info just from looking at them. That's why big dumb animu eyes are popular. He'd look like a dead fish if his eyes were pixelated to shit like the rest of his face.

TF2 is a technological marvel with how low the settings can go, even further with mods. Too bad about all the cosmetic bloat.

I was under the impression carmacks work was optimizing software mode as opposed to full fledged hardware acceleration.

I remember having a really shit computer and even when I put tf2 to the ultra-low garbage settings I'd still only get about 20 fps. Only classes I would really play were pyro and heavy, scout was pretty much unplayable because the PC couldn't keep up with his speed.

I wish more games would allow you to crunch textures to this degree.

Not quite low settings, but I remember playing through quite a bit of HL2 with this really odd awful lighting in any white room.
