Why did PC fags hate it?

They didn't? Most early complaints were about timers/performance. Mixed in with DLC complaints and all that, pretty much all like it was for Enemy Unknown. Now it's just boredom waiting for the final LWS mods and the expansion.

The turn timer riled up the retards who cant do anything other than creeping overwatch

Pretty much. The performance was really bad at launch.

Bugs.

>Most early complaints were about timers/performance.
The timers aren't really unreasonable. I would just add maybe 2 extra turns or have them start from reveal. It's not like there is any major penalty for failing a mission though.

The only issue is council missions where you can literally lose a whole squad if you aren't out in time and the device protection mission mid-game and beyond since it is destroyed in like three turns.

>the expansion
???
This will have an expansion like EW was to EU?

I wasn't complaining about the timers, I didn't really mind them on my vanilla playthrough.

Jake Solomon said something about an expansion, I can't remember where. And seeing as even Beyond Earth got an expansion despite being a flop odds are this gets an expansion as well.

Timerbabbies complained that there was a turn timer that wouldn't let them do their shitty 1 move then overwatch - repeat until mission success bs.

Performance issues were another part of it. There were glaring issues, such as the Avenger having HUGE framerate issues, and there being multiple major memory leaks (to the point where running the game for more than say 2-3 hrs would start causing very visible problems).

Gameplay wise, I just felt it didn't quite live up to XCOM1. Just didn't feel as cohesive or interesting to play. Vahlen (my favorite character from XCOM1) is MIA, Shen (pretty cool guy) is gone, XCOM is more akin to a guerilla terrorist faction than a "global force to save the earth". Most of the aliens from the first game don't return or are altered into nearly unrecognizable forms. (Sectoids - originally designed as the stereotypical little grey men - are now Pectoids, the awesome Thin Men that were designed specifically to appeal to the base human instinct that they were ever so slightly wrong (there's a term for this but I don't remember) are now generic earth snakes but humanoid and with tits just because, Mutons are the only ok ones, Chryssalids are not near the threat they were in the first game, Floaters became flying greek statues because why not, MEC soldiers and aliens don't return, etc etc)
Just a bunch of little things all added together to ruin it for me personally.

Not all negative though. Some of the new abilities are nice, and giving all Snipers squadsight as baseline was good.

i loved it

It's referred to as the Uncanny Valley. And Thin Men =/= Vipers, they both were created with Snake DNA but they were processed differently. The use of Thin Men after ADVENT successfully conquered Earth decreased, however while you may not see them in the field, they can still be seen in game (The Speaker is one)

>Timerbabbies complained that there was a turn timer that wouldn't let them do their shitty 1 move then overwatch - repeat until mission success bs.

Honestly, I didn't play like that but I felt like the turn timers were just slightly too restricting. If they'd all been increased by just 1 or 2 turns it would have prevented overwatch cheesing without being unnecessarily stringent. I love XCOM 2, but it had its issues.

Definitely issues. Thankfully the base game is still good and mods, such as just adding 1 to 2 turns, make it better instead of Beth games where the baseline content is so lacking you require mods to have fun

s'alright

I didn't hate it but

It was pretty poorly optimized

Removing air game instead of improving on it
Overall difficulty decrease lampshaded with turn timers
The base building just wasn't that satisfying, and it was smaller
No containment
Retaliation missions were literally a much easier to deal with terror mission and the effects of them were less significant
No mechs, no DNA changing, and no real replacements for them, kinda sucked dick
New Bradford and the overall story and feel was just eh
Tygan and Fem Shen were shit, no joke
No shivs

I'm missing some stuff. DLC was weak as fuck.

Thanks for beta testing...?

I agree, it's got it just right where you can play the base game and have a ton of fun, and mods just help to improve the experience that much more.

Shame mods can't fix the multiplayer, though. I really loved the multiplayer despite its constant glitching, awful netcode, crazy lag, and lack of thought in the game mode (for example, not having some objective on the map makes you just wander around aimlessly looking for each other in random directions so the beginning of each match is slow/boring as fuck). But even with all that, I still spent so many hours playing with my bro. If they had put some real work into it I feel like it could have been a really popular mode.

The atmosphere from XCOM: EU was completely kill.
It could at times be unsettling or spooky.
XCOM 2 doesn't have any atmosphere, and you don't feel like a guerilla resistance at all.

> and you don't feel like a guerilla resistance at all
I disagree

Yeah I really don't know why they went with that theme at all. I love the concept of ADVENT and the occupation and everything but it's just wasted on xcom. Or at least the way they handled it sucks

My PCbros cannot handle the stress of timed missions.

Also performance. They used UE3 and you'd think they'd be used to it by now but NOPE. Different game, same old technical problems.

I bought the Seasons pass, and while I only hav e29 hours in X2 compared to 116 on my legit X1 with easily 100 more on a pirate. I still think it was worth, I haven't even beat X2 desu, but I enjoyed what I played, and when I eventually get the urge to play a Tactics game again, it's for sur egoing to be X2 and I'll probably put 50 more hours in. Either that or when the xpac drops I'll really dig in. If it's anything equivalent to EW, X2 might go down as a GOAT game in general, probably the best in RTT or whatever you want to classify it as. As it stands EW holds that title, it's jsut such a tight, good game, it's almost unbelievable that it came out in this modern gaming era. EU is good as fuck too.

I liked it, there were only 2 things that bothered me on release

Stealth was broken on release and the timers, but I got gud after 2-3 days in and they stopped being a problem.

When I play xcom 2

The only thing that is an improvement for me is the grapix and the customization.

I don't even recall that much hatred for it outside of the Timed missions and even then there are mods to increase your time, get rid of them, or change how they work (the mod that makes timers tick down only when you're out of Concealment in exchange for slightly less time is perfect IMO) I just haven't had much reason to go back nor thought to and I could really use a new video card.

Hope in a few months the Co-op mod really shines through. Friends would love to play like that.

My complaint is a lack of aliens.
You spend most of the time fighting against humanoids and robots/mechas
I feel the first XCOM was better in terms of story/setting but the mechanics of XCOM2 are an improvement for sure.

But damn do I miss shooting down and raiding UFOs. That was much more enjoyable then fighting in generic earth city against generic advent soldiers.

>Why did PC fags hate it?
Where did you come to that conclusion? Everybody seemed to like it a lot. I still play from time to time.

Besides timers, I know a chunk of people disliked it because of the long war comparison. Specifically, regarding the way that missions played out.

In long war, proper engagements were everywhere, and having to take fire was common. However, things could be done to counter any fire taken, and even if none of those actions were taken the aliens weren't superhuman and wouldn't nail you through full cover(unless it's a boss alien like an outsider, and even then it's a slightly shitter coinflip).

In XCOM 2 that doesn't exist. It's alpha strike or you're losing people. Whether it be unavoidable AOEs or just grenade spam, the defensive options are garbage, and the aliens will happily nail you every time. Fun fact, on release, Smoke Grenades actually provided no defense despite them supposing to provide +20 defense. It's that bad.

>You will never shotgun an Outisder at point blank again
>You will never kill a Floater and watch it flails down as it's juices shoot out
>You will never feel the satisfaction of detecting a hidden pod of seekers then blasting them all with a shredder rocket

this is why grenadiers are the meme trooper and why XCOM 2 top tier play is all boring "blow them all to hell" strats

Mimic beacons made the game too easy after your first retaliation mission.
I would just throw one of those bad boys behind some high cover and the dumb ass aliens would shoot at it, and the fucking thing would dodge most their attacks, allowing me to sit my shitty squad in garbage cover and nail them next turn.
Once I survived the first month the game got too easy as my soldiers all became retarded super humans. I think I cleared the game on impossible after a week and never touched it again.

Too many human enemies, not enough aliens.

Yeah, meme beacons and proximity mines made the game a breeze way too early in vanilla. Mods remedy this now though.

didn't the meme beacons become nerfed to become unmissable?
they're still OP iirc

Throw psionics into the mix along with mimic beacons and you can just stroll through the game. Too many things are completely broken

>human enemies
implying

Semantics.

>tfw nobody has ported over the EU/EW aliens into the game yet.

Bring back the horror of being stalked by Seekers, please.

Outside of the majority of customization options in 2, I much prefer EU, EW, and LW in terms of gameplay, story, and overall tone.

only the final mission was any bit challenging because it's been a battle of attrition and then the game dumps pods upon pods of aliens upon you
can still be easy as fuk though since they give you the troll hair Commander whose abilities can kill entire pods, so you can just wait for those to recharge and slowly go forward and save your grenades and shit for the end.
and also sometimes it'll just spawn weak ass pods in the final fight, like faceless or some shit.

I tried going back to long dong after XCOM 2 and just the intro mission itself was already tougher than anything I had in XCOM 2.

I forgot how tense things feel when the aliens actually give a shit about their lives, and make smart plays to reflect off of it. The guys at the back overwatch, the guys at the front prioritize good cover, and any dangerous flanks are locked out with suppression. Meanwhile the ayys in XCOM 2 don't give a shit and will happily rush to low cover in the middle of nowhere. They'll do it through overwatch and suppression too. What's the point?

This is pretty true.

>one secondary equipment slot at the beginning of the game
>choose between grenades which are absolutely fucking necessary to blast shit down or bonus health, not even actual armour
>instead of giving you more slots and making enemies harder

PC fags never hated it. They were just pissed about the horrendous optimization that was eventually (mostly) fixed with patches.

Dodge: Grazed mechanic is retard, only Viper, Archon and Avatar should have this ability and not ADVENT trooper or any other enemy types, well maybe Codex can have it too but that's the limit
Base building is a disappointment, like I think they could have do some more base building in each region and we have to fly there to collect the result but no let's just build on our 3x4 rooms ship
Bugs, of course, things like the feedback upon failing on using Skulljack continues to damage the soldiers, burning damage doesn't work on enemies, enemies can see the VIP in locked truck and attack him without opening the door first
No researching aircraft as escort/interceptor to protect our ship, or to counter the ayyy when they strike the resistance cells
Aside from these it's a solid 8/10 game, sooner or later it will get good mods too

>tfw still no viper titty mods

>embrace snek

>They'll do it through overwatch and suppression too. What's the point?
THIS. FUCKING THIS.
Suppression is fucking WORTHLESS. It actually had big, big value in XCOM 1 but in 2 it's absolutely shit.

I loved the first one but for some reason I couldn't get into the second one. I was used to playing hard on the first one but in xcom 2 hard fucking destroyed me.

They updated it so that enemies can't dodge concealed shots nor on 100%s. So that's a bonus.

There are quite a variety of good mods. Besides the quality of life ones, A Better Advent is probably one of the better gameplay mods out there. It introduces all sorts of aliens, from mini lids with 5 hp to fire breathing berserkers who get to move/attack every time you damage them.

doesn't it run like shit on PS4 as well?

Does this game have KBM support on ps4? I played a little of xcom 1 on pc and liked it a lot but my toaster can hardly run it. KBM is best for this kind of turnbased combat imo and controller sounds kind of bad.

Certain games should always have kbm support on ps4. If ffxiv and war thunder can do it perfectly why not a triple A title?

>creeping overwatch
Is there a scrubier way of playing than this? I see people standings till for 3 fucking turns waiting for a patrol and overwatching.

I really do like the game, turn timers don't bother me, I generally have 2-3 turns extra.
This may be long war talking here, but I thought that PSI was completely broken. It's just too many options for one unit.
If XCOM was a tabletop game, a psi trooper would be worth at least the point cost of 4 regular guys for both versatility and raw power.

...

We didn't

Wish the experimental ammo/grenade didn't give me stuffs randomly but what I want, or an option to make more that type of ammo after researching it the first time

No, Psi Troopers are straight busted

never 4 get

I only had 1 and once she had like 3 skills, she was fucking everything up.

>Have used flashbangs twice
>both time the banged ayy manages to 1 shot a teammate in full cover
>never use them again
Is my game secretly fucked or something

I just want gameplay and graphcis of EW but with soldier customization and mods of XCOM 2 with the base building and air-game of UFO Defense.

I just want to play XCOM without it running like total fucking utter shit.

Why is this game on console now?
I thought Firaxis said it was PC only.

flashbangs basically force the alien to just shoot you.
most of them have base 70 aim (with no range bonuses) and a flashbang reduces that by 20. so against a soldier in full cover, they have a 10% chance to hit.
with XCOM 2's retarded rolls, hits and crits are calculated with the same roll. so when they finally nail that 10% chance to hit, it will crit too.
so flashbangs may be a better option against a stun lancer or two to keep them the fuck away, or to break a sectoid's mind control, but fuck it for anything else.

The closest ones you might want to try are UFO: Extraterrestrials and Xenonaut

Can't the mods in 2 do that? Shit performance aside.

What kind of question is this? More sales, obviously. Can't be too expensive to port it if it's un UE3.

Theoretically yes. One of the devs even said you could mod in the TU system into XCOM 2, but there haven't been any big, substantial mods like Long War or anything resembling an overhaul. It's all just dress-up bullshit, guns, shitty new squaddie models, etc. There haven't been any mods of legitimate substance.

brb downloading comfy sweater

Welp. If I ever get bored with my own game dev I may dive into it to make a non-shit base building mod.

how about you make
H-COM

One of the games I have in mind is kinda like XCOM (though the setting is victorian) with supporting units similar to Fire Emblem, based on more specific interactions within the game. Nothing original, I just want to make it because it's fun. Adding H could actually work with those support mechanics :^)

But I need a god tier artist for it.

sounds pretty cool
An artist would be pretty expensive, a patreon might lure one in but I'd doubt that even if you jiggled snek tits right in front of people you'd get Breeding Season tier cash which is probably what they'd hope for
maybe one day I'll get gud at drawing instead of fucking around on DoD threads, hiring a coder would probably be cheaper

>shivs
>no interceptor segment
>no laser weapons
>shitty performance
>mechs are A FUCKING DLC
>40-50$ season pass
>dlcs sucked anyway
>retconned previous game
>changed bradford VA
>no exalt or another third party
>shitty weapon mods ala laser pointer
>have fuckign UNLIMITED plasma weapons but cant make a simple laser pointer
>cant make specific special ammunition without a roulette
>missions suck ass duuuh UFO was shot down by some hicks duuur
it sucked, 5/10

>retconned
nice meme
