XCOM 2

Why did PC fags hate it again?

It's fucking great.

Bugs and not rock solid 60 fps.

It is good, it just runs horrible. It will dip below 30 consoles too, you just haven't gotten to where every enemy tears down buildings yet.

People with shit computers or laptops write negative reviews because they're fucking retarded.

Does framerate really matter in a slow paced turn based game?

Why did you make this thread again?

Don't get too excited, it's still better than the peasant version.

Most of it it just the time limit desu, peasant and mustard alike. Heh. You get used to it after a while. Helps to know what the actual fuck ur doin.

Oh and apparently there are frame dips, but lets not act like consoles dont get those kek.

Not in easy games, but in a game that makes you want to kill yourself every little thing just adds to that... inevitable final step of self determination...

>slow paced
>you have 1 turn to complete this mission

No, that's why it gets a pass and I consider it a great game. But it's just the inconsistency of it that's annoying. It's seriously ranging from 60 to 20 FPS constantly later in the game.

It's less the frame rate and more the optimization you dip. XCOM 2 had and is still bumpy in that department, which naturally means things like framerate suffer.

>muh framerate!
It's a fucking turn-based game. TURN-BASED

This fucking cancerous fps meme needs to stop

i wonder this too, i guess it's just when the explosions and shit happen. I'm far more concerned about if my squad didn't die. That says a lot right there.

PC.ucks had an issue with not being able to blame the game's faults on the console crowd. If you notice about Enemy Unknown the majority of PC users blamed the faults of THAT game on consoles, rather than saying it was a fun (but flawed) game.

>I don't know anything about XCOM2 at release
>but I'll add my opinion anyway
thanks champ

t. Proud ASUS laptop owner.

Same reason as the first. "It's not muh original". It's just insufferable faggots wanting to claim their nerd cred by claiming older games are better even though the majority of them only played them a decade after launch.

As to why people bitch about the new franchise 1 vs 2 it's just people that can't handle the fact they can't turtle for 50+ turns and have an optimal setup to cheese the maps to get perfects everytime.

>playing within
>thought i was getting gud
>2nd drop in
>i'm bare bones with sniper
>overwatch
>overwatch
>overwatch
>they don't budge
>it's on normal
>fuck this shit
>move
>kills me on overwatch near evac spot

Fuck. Getting better at least.

Good game.
Bogged down by optimization problems.
It is a fucking shitshow that you can only get 20 fucking FPS on the final mission.

It's still worth complaining about because it didn't need to be. The game actually looks really nice, it's a shame it gets so choppy.

It doesn't harm the gameplay in this case, no, and the game play is top tier.

GTX 970

>3.5 meme

Ebin. No other game I've played runs this bad, but I didn't buy Watch Dogs or BamHam Knight

Way too many game breaking bugs at launch and for a good while after.

Abysmal performance.

>XCOM EU
>"It's casualized shit because of consoles. FUCK THIS SHIT!"

>XCOM 2, only possible through the power of the Personal Computerâ„¢
>runs like dogshit even on high-end rigs and uses the same UI and mechanics as the first XCOM

Your first mistake was playing EW. The definitive version is EU with DLC.

>The definitive version is EU with DLC.

t. contrarian

What the fuck am I reading?

>runs like dogshit on PC
>le smiley face

Peasants should be terrified when this comes out, not smug lol. Not like it's gonna run better on peasantbox.

See when we say poorly optimized, we mean not 60+ constant.

>PCKeks would love console games if they were on their platform
>PCKeks hate their own exclusives

Why are Sonyggers so dumb.

found the guy who got cucked and bought the DLCs then wouldn't pay for complete

I did my research, you goofed not getting EW, and you're likely way better at this game than me.

got it 80% on greenmangaming last week.

EW added a bunch of retarded shit and threw off the balance of the whole game. Feels like a shitty mod rather than canon content.

The Base defense mission is probably the most laughably broken and retarded shit I've ever played.

The only worthwhile thing EW added was more maps.

The "DLC" you're talking about is way more bullshit than EW. I always turn Slingshit off.

just to expand on this...

i could have gotten it cheap on humble bundle but EU is apparently a buggy piece of shit that they never bothered to patch because it was once of the games where "fuck it, we'll do it with the expansion".

>TURN-BASED

Featuring constant animations. Doesn't affect gameplay, just looks like shit and breaks immersion.

no one gives a shit about slingshot, and no one said they did...

stop being delusional and influencing other people into your shitty decision. Wait for EW, get it, and fuck up.

Is the original worth buying on Android? Will it play well on my Nexus 5?

wait for EW on sale i mean obviously.

maybe i am just a giant faggot but this was like stress: the videogame for me

>the mission timers
>the avatar project
>the endgame enemies

i wound up using a few mods to make it a more relaxing experience where i could just enjoy the combat. still a very fun game.

Shitty randomised combat.

>Should have EU >>WITH DLC

>get back to homebase
>award medals
>high fives all round
>hometown in RL is in shatters

Perhaps a decent reward in the long term next time, nigger.

There's elite soldier pack too brah, you tell me.

Again, op?

EW. European Warrior. It's a pack that gives all your female personnel hijabs. Also removes any trucks from the game in urban environments due to cultural sensitivities.

I bought it yesterday because it was cheap and I met the recommended system requirements. It still ran poorly at medium settings. Only way to play it at 60fps was with everything on low and made the game look significantly worse than X-Com: EU which is odd because that game ran at 60fps on high settings. I really dont get it. Graphically the look very similar there is no massive jump.

I don't give a shit about the elite pack either, but EU is a broken mess, keep playing it because i dont care and its a single player game.

PCgay here, still playing EW

this is my first tacticool game

game is beating up my ballbag

>nearly have everything secured
>le VIP found
>secure him, get him far away and safe
>le drop ins
>kill them
>get closer
>more le drop ins
>le sniper can't move and shoot on same turn

Feeling like i should restart but where the fuck did this spike come from? Gon from no spikes to 2 that never miss. On normal.

what i meant was gone from 0 drop ins to two that have dudes who dont miss. Even when i really need them to.

>needing to move your sniper

you even played the game?

if i don't move they don't, and we all just stand there with our dicks in our hands

except my sniper cause she has a pusseh

Does acceleration still matter if your top speed is 80?

t. guy who doesn't understand that 99% means missing 1 out of 100 times

also they both dropped in and went into overwatch at the evac zone on first turn

both on the roof of the evac point too, i just think it was a bit rough for normal. I had one guy left, it was bad enough, i just wanted to get past that and see what happened. But no.

...

sluggish performance, they really could have done better. I also prefer the cartoony vibe of 1 over 2' realistic look

I can play a VIP mission on normal without getting the VIP killed, at least

EW is great... although I dislike exalt fuck those guys and their missions

>The Base defense mission is probably the most laughably broken and retarded shit I've ever played

its easy just stick everyone on high ground, on the other hand if you are very unlucky and have nothing but rookies...

>who needs normal ballistic model for tactics

>Why did PC fags hate it again?

Everyone I know likes it. Here's what generally happens

>consolefags: "I CAN JUST RUN EVERY PC GAME ON MY LAPTOP"
>game comes out
>forums flooded with retards complaining that it doesn't work properly on their shit laptop

Guess who those people are?

Level your sniper to the point they can sweep the map of contacts if they move. Before that use assaulter as mobile landmines. Either they die and expose pods to the rest of the team or they just fuck up the enemy on their own.

I love it, and have never had frame rate issues during play. The game does occasionally seem to pause/take it's time processing or some thing at random points during alien turns some times (usually spotting/drop in's), but other than that I have not run in to any glitches.

Because of shit like this

not him but you are aware turn based games exist where you can manipulate attacks in your favour so that they always hit through means of skill right?

pic related, 90% of the attacks can crit and crits cannot be evaded, how do you crit? every attack has a minigame to play do it well enough and you always crit and never miss.

Shadowhearts takes it a step further you can find an item that doubles your damage but hides the correct place to hit X during your attacks meaning if you got used to the timing you we're rewarded for getting better at the game.
ShadowHearts 2 added another item that removes the area and the dial so now you really fucking needed to know what you we're doing and it tripled your damage as a reward.

Xcom and other turn based vidya design is fucking lazy and Xcom gets a free pass because the bullshit it produces is what people expect and they probably dont know that you can have turn based combat that involves skill and rewards good players.

what i did isn't really up for debate, it was just cheap bad luck, i'm underlevelled for what the game wants. I could have beaten the mission MAX 1 guy left.

So fucking what? If scrolling around the map and looking at the animations looks janky its inexcusable.

Uh, no. It doesn't.

It means that every shot will hit 99 out of 100 times, it's very much possible for you to miss every single 99% shot you ever take, even if the odds for that are very low.

Play Valkyria Chronicles instead. It's a much better game (even better than PC version, but I don't trust jourons) and it doesn't shit on original's legacy like nu-com.

>The Base defense mission is probably the most laughably broken and retarded shit I've ever played.
Wut?

>Why did PC fags hate it
They didn't. Most criticism was due to bugs and technical issues.

I bought this day of release but have never played it after reading it was mostly timed missions.

am i tripping or sometimes i make a move without dashing and it counts it as a dash?

and aliens come in and have 3 turns? makes any planning i did go out the window.

This is the most retarded thing I've read in the entire thread

Congratulations

>werks on my machine ;^)

I am glad they released on consoles. I never bought the bullshit excuse and I missed my console bros. Though the game had horrible issues, they might be fixed now. The problem is that they learned nothing from Long War, which made it immediately bad sequel to me.

I liked how they did the first game, is at least as good as that?

>It's a much better game
It's not. But idea solid, shame it's have shit realization.

"on average" was implied, obviously

needed that

I bet you'd miss more than one out of a hundred shots at point blank if a monster was running at your face

>we_had_this_exact_same_thread_yesterday.png

When selecting things on the interface is sluggish, or the game is outright buggy and you can lose soldiers, significant progress or an entire mission due to glitches, yes I'd say it matters.

It was incredibly grating to sit there watching the screen while everything just stands still while the computer tries to calculate what the fuck just happened. I've had it where a roof got blown out from under a couple of advent and they just stood there for about ten seconds before the game caught up and they fell to their deaths cartoon style.

The timed missions are what made it better than EW if you ask me. The amount of turns given is always fair I feel like, but unlike EW you can't afford to slowly crawl the map on overwatch. Now you have to make tough decisions, and loose a soldier or three to progress, but you'll also experience some pretty fucking heroic shit often as well. That's how XCOM should be.

the pic i meant.

I have no problem with alternative game designs, but I would have a problem with removing all probability mechanisms from games. If your favorite game has a different mechanic, great. But replacing all random chance with silly little minigames would be 1,000 times more annoying, guaranteed. Random chance generators are as old as gaming - accept your bad luck like a man.

Mitigating risk through positioning and using soldier abilities is where the skill comes in. Git gud user.

>I bet you'd miss more than one out of a hundred shots at point blank if a monster was running at your face
Maybe. But this is not about it. This is about shitty core model from some shitty tabletop wargame from 70's.

please don't bully

Fuck, powergaming kiddies don't understand strategy games at all. Honestly, this should be fixed by hiding all percentages from players because all they ever do is bitch and complain about it.

You moving to a square right next to your dash zone? Be causer the game loves to say "no you moved to this square which disallowed more gactions." It seems to be a glitch with where you click due to the isometric angle which will fuck you up, espcialy in iron man.

>Why did pc fags hate it

>800,000 sales first week

>Despite bugs like smoke grenades literally doing nothing besides making a partical effect good reviews were still given

>Game performed so bad it was actually difficult to control (LE TURN BASED SO DUSTN METTER XDDDD doesn't apply when it was as bad as it was)

Stop making this thread I loved the game and so did mostly everyone else who played it, main complaints were performance, bugs and the time limits which dramatically changed how the game is played from EU.

Glad consolefags can play it now but you guys still act like clueless fags.

Finished it first week after release. My personal GOTY 2016, we'll see about Dishonored 2.

Haven't played any DLCs though.

>bugs like smoke grenades literally doing nothing
And yet the "bugs" like mimic beacons making your troops neigh immortal are never addressed. Sounds like sour grapes from someone that can';t handle the series moved on and won't address the actual issues of the game.

>powergaming kiddies don't understand strategy games at all
I'm listening.

Fairly sure meme beacons got nerfed also I don't understand what you're talking about with sour grapes, if you're trying to bait I have to understand why I'm supposed to get upset.

i see. It's fuckin annoying.

Time limits are a good thing.
Cred Forums unironically posting it was a bad thing when the game was just released made me believe that some players are legitimately fucking retarded.

Often times, bait can be just as effective by being confusing as fuck.

You're bitching about things that you don't like but work the way they're meant to but say other things are fixed. You're just screeching about how you know better balancing than the devs.

I remember I made daily threads and maymays before XCOM 2 released and then I spammed whole board with time limits.

>work the way they're meant to
Smoke grenades are supposed to give units in the cloud a defense bonus. The bug on release made them do nothing. Try reading friend.

I remember exactly what you're talking about, it confirmed to me that Cred Forums was absolutely dog shit at videogames.

I kind of like the turn limits in the context of X2 but I'd rather they get rid of them and introduce something more interesting in the inevitable third game to stop overwatch camping.

Maybe something like "Reinforcements arrive in x turns" instead of "Objective failed in X turns"

My main problem is that it made the game kind of feel like a puzzle game instead of a tactics game. You had to pick the right combination of moves to clear every pod you run into in one turn or the mission was probably going to fail. It was just too limiting imo but it's manageable.

I guess you're right, he's just spewing nonsense in

And meme beacons were OP. Call friend, I think you'll need help getting your head out of your ass.

>Reinforcements arrive in x turns
This was actually a thing in some of the missions. But I think they couldn't do this for all missions or else people will just get up overwatch killzones and exp farm those reinforcements.

>And meme beacons were OP.
So what? He used the smoke grenade bug as an example, and never said that mimic beacons being bugged were fine. In fact he never mentioned them at all. Are you ok?

>He
So I wasn't talking to you kiddo. Adults are talking.

Yeah, the dropships were kind of mediocre though, they usually dropped like two grunts and a mech at worst.

I'm talking like 20 turn time limit before the aliens get some big advantage on you, like all pods activate after 20 or something.

I feel like 8 turns was too restrictive and made the game boil down to trying to move your specialist just close enough to turn off the time limit before killing everything in most missions. I liked the change from other xcom games but I'd like it to go back to EW's reward for being aggressive or UFO defense's "All the aliens can see you through walls now" that happened after 20 turns.

I think they added the time limit because they discovered that the new tools they gave you was fucking overpowered and if they didn't force you to play aggressively, the game would be a cake walk even on the highest difficulty. FYI, even with the time limit, I still felt that Xcom2 was a lot easier than EW.

So you've stopped even trying to argue and went straight to shitposting. Stay rekt babby.

Hook line and stinker.

>Xcom 2 was easier

Yeah, the ambush system mixed with all the new abilities made it was easier. It would have been hilariously trivial to beat I/L if there weren't time limits.

Hopefully they can address this in the expansion but I'd be happy with just some new toys and a few enemies.

Without dramatically overhauling the system, it has to be this way. That is the drawback of the pod system.

The problem with Xcom 2 is that it has the same fucking issue that Xcom which is the late game, early game ramps us your ass with a spike because your rookies know no better and have way more limited equipment.
Then you get MECs, Psi and just fucking steamroll everything in 2 turns.

This has been the issue in almost all iterations of Xcom. Even the old ones.

Bullshit. There's /tg/ archives of xcom playthrougs that show how trivial the game can get if you know what you're doing, use tanks and blast the everyloving fuck out of the entire map.

What? Of course this game will be trivial if you know what you are doing. Every game is since it is vs AI and turn based. Doesn't change the fact that the hardest part of EVERY Xcom is the early portion.

user he was saying every xcom game has had the issue with the backwards difficulty curve

So everyone's excited about Xenonauts 2, right?

So it's only hard when you don't know what the fuck you're doing. Which loses impact when people tell you that you need to lose to win and that losing is fun. XCOM is just fanboy wank.

People on /tg/ usually do guides after getting buttfucked at least 5 times by a sectoid on overwatch before saying "guys if sectoid pod is activated, go into overwatch"
You will never truly understand Xcom until you've been swarmed with fucking Chryssalids or crited by a fucking cum loving muton from who knows where with a hit chance of 13%

>Learning the game mechanics enables you to win the game

Literally. Every. Fucking. Game.
Jesus fuck. If you hate fun so much why even post in this thread?

Is there any problem in life you can't solve by breaking LoS?

I liked 1 more due to the capturing mechanism

I enjoyed it, but the biggest flaw was that enemies end up doing so much damage that you're forced to forcus fire and vaporize them as soon as they show up (and since your soldiers do tons of damage as well, the game becomes absurdly easy).

So the end result is that you never get into firefights anymore, you just run from battle to battle dumping multiple shots into the biggest enemy in a pack and then one shotting everyone else. By late game, fights rarely last more than 2 turns.

Still fun, though. I loved the Psi Operative class.

But I play it on PC and absolutely love it.

Other then visual pleasure, fps makes almost no dif whatsover unless its really awful when it comes to turnbased games. I dont get how people shit on this game just for its framerate drops. Despite poor optimization, its a phenomenal game.

I thought the real skill of xcom is mitigating the damage when a mission goes sour by bad luck

Commander Ironman changed me, I think imma try the harder difficulty ironman now

>implying
nigga its my GOTY
the squad is back baby

>implying you wont lose sev again

This, what Xcom really needed was a QTE every time you fire your gun

RIP Sev

RNG is fun at first, but after hours of gameplay missing a 95% to hit stops being funny and starts to become annoying.

A game cannot survive on RNG alone. There has to be guarantees thrown in there so the player knows where they stand. Pure RNG means the player often gets punished by the numbers despite doing everything right. If the player thinks the game is screwing them over or they're being punished for no reason, then they aren't going to respond well to the game.

>95% to hit
>5% to miss
Theres chance to miss, stop crying

They literally can't, though.

This is why you PCucks can never be satisfied.

Then flank and avoid half cover, or you can always play on easy

>Pure RNG
So why can some players beat the game consistently on impossible without losing a single soldier?

Use explosives, or other abilities that don't rely on percentages. Don't put yourself in the position where missing that 95% shot is going to screw you over.

In short, git gud.

not sure about nexus 5, but runs fine on my ipad 3rd gen (2012) my gf's iphone 5 and my 7.

I told you it's fucking great.

Haven't played XCOM before. Should I start with 1 or go straight into this game?

>Haven't played XCOM before. Should I start with 1 or go straight into this game?
