I listen to the soundtrack of hotline Miami 24/7.

Jokes on you, i only listen to them ironically.

Why are movie soundtracks something like 90% generic atmospheric orchestra when games have much mor varied ones?
listening to babby's first Cred Forums recommended album and listing them as your favorite doesn't immediately make you a man of taste
you're still a boring cunt, just in a different way
This is absolute fucking garbage.
Weird since I kinda dig some of the older DDR songs and those are basically Nightcore too.

Death Grips is good when you want to thrash around and be angry, which is a lot of the time for me
I like listening to Silent Hill 2 and 3s ost sometimes ok. Sometimes I like remixes, mashups and covers too.
I listen to real music too but Tropical Freeze has some god tier tracks.

"Real" music just doesn't compare to jpop and anime/game OSTs.
it just means that you're gay
And what's the problem with that? Japanese games have top quality music.
They're scored to what's happening on the screen and there's a common idea in movies that the soundtrack should be unintrusive.
How does listening to anime and game music imply a lack of taste and personality?
Fuck user, the only thing i listen besides vidya OSTs is sabaton, can anyone reccomend something similar
Nah. I'm not gay, sorry user.

>that autist who listen to nothing but Nintendo soundtracks
Nothing wrong with video game soundtracks. They're usually original unlike movie soundtracks.
OP here. The problem with vidya music is that it really has no depth, no artistic integrity, and no personality. It's designed to fit into the scene and sound good. You can't say "oh this lyric or sound is meant to convey this thing from this artists emotions/life" or "oh this line can be interpreted like that". For me, the music falls flat when it has no personality along with being a corporate product (like Guns N' Roses is clearly a product, but it has a lot of personality and relatable themes). The only reason why people listen to vidya music in the first place is that they associate the music with the moments in the game and emotions they felt throughout it. It has no artistic value and personality because it's meant to fit into the game. Sure, it may sound good, but that's no art. And yes, I feel similarly about movie tracks.
Also I'm not a Cred Forumstant. I've been there a few times to ask about some stuff like Bowie or Pink Floyd or technical questions like mixing or flow
yep, I sure do
I listen to remix tracks too
is there a problem with this?
I listen synthwave too.
Look up program music you brainlet
Fuck you OP, payday 2 music is amazing
>The problem with vidya music is that it really has no depth, no artistic integrity, and no personality.
How do you know the problem with something that you clearly have no experience of?
>It's designed to fit into the scene and sound good.
That's movie music, and obviously you want music to sound good. Why wouldn't you?
>The only reason why people listen to vidya music in the first place is that they associate the music with the moments in the game and emotions they felt throughout it.
I listen to a lot of game music that I've never heard in context. It's just music. Context can improve it but that goes for any other kind of music.
>It has no artistic value and personality because it's meant to fit into the game.
This doesn't even make sense.
>Sure, it may sound good, but that's no art.
That's exactly what art is.
>The problem with vidya music is that it really has no depth, no artistic integrity, and no personality.

>How do you know the problem with something that you clearly have no experience of?
Because the experience I had with it led me to these conclusions. I tried
>That's movie music, and obviously you want music to sound good. Why wouldn't you?
You do, but you also want some meat to dig into. That's the point of art, you can dissect it
>I listen to a lot of game music that I've never heard in context. It's just music. Context can improve it but that goes for any other kind of music.
Again, it may sound good and you can like whatever you want, but it's not art
>This doesn't even make sense
It does. It's restrictive as fuck. You can't go wild with the sound and the meaning when you have to meet certain requirements
>That's exactly what art is.
Art is meant just to sound good? I had no idea
Yes, Guns N' Roses has a unique sound (at least their lead singer does) and relatable lyrics that can make you feel or think about your life. There's stuff to take out of it
The track you posted didn't do much for me without context
There's a difference. This one has progression and a conclusion. It's not nearly as restricted in is nature
I-ITS N-NOT THE SAME!!!

So you are just stupid then?
>You do, but you also want some meat to dig into. That's the point of art, you can dissect it
That's not art, that's post-modernism.
>Again, it may sound good and you can like whatever you want, but it's not art
You don't know what art is.
>It does. It's restrictive as fuck. You can't go wild with the sound and the meaning when you have to meet certain requirements
Art is very often built on restrictions, including self-imposed ones. Post-modernism though of course is all about no rules and limits and just doing whatever.
Nope, it's all shit

>he listens to wrestler's themes unironically
>No bruh you just like video game music based on the experience you had while hearing it while playing the game!!
This is the most retarded argument. All music is experienced subjectively and how much you like any song is based mostly on your experiences with it. It's why people always say its better to listen to music live even when that sometimes entails not being able to hear the music due to other people. Its because it isn't about the music, its about the experience you are having when you hear it, your mood and everything that has happened in your life recently.

I'm too autistic to listen music other than from video games.
I never wandered into that. I don't know what the genres are, the bands, albums, what tracks are important, what should i know etc.

You music taste changes your whole life idiot. Use youtube, its a great way to discover new music (or more likely old music you haven't heard before). It doesn't really matter if you don't know what other people think about music.
I'm listening to a lot of music I didn't listen as a teen, whereas much of the music I used to listen to I no longer do.
he did state he's too autistic
>tfw you're a man of culture and listen to equal parts vidya OSTs and vocaloid music
what the fuck? this sounds worse then both on their own.
That's a dumb myth, for pretty much the entirety of my teenage years I had a heavy metal phase and then around 19 I did a complete 180 and listened to a lot of gay indie pop music, and now I rarely listen to anything from either group
>this triggered over the fact that ost is not music so you need to cheerypick actual music

video games will have its social stigma for at least another 50 years, maybe longer since irony culture is at its peak
Just because the band guns n roses is a product, doesn't make the music any less inspired. People wouldn't care about the concerts and t shirts if they didn't love the music, and the music wasn't generated by a computer, somebody sat down and made a song to the best of their ability just like any other artist.
Check out Ryuichi Sakamoto's and Yukihiro Takahashi work too, they're fantastic even by themselves fantastic, well, because they both were in YMO

You like artists to mouth feed you on what a song should be related to and what you should feel from this and that part? Thank christ I don't listen to a song and think "oh, this is referring to when the vocalist lost his wife". You need to impose your shit on a song, otherwise what even is the point of listening to a bunch of nobodies' issues in musical form?
Sometimes songs are really memorable

The only one who has power over your shame is you. People like OP will continue to call you faggots until the end of time. Keep listening to whatever makes you happy and know, deep down, that OP is the true faggot.
What music do you listen to, OP?
I listen to so much video game, anime, and vocaloid music that it just feels awkward and wrong when I try to listen to other music. Like I'm not supposed to be doing it or something.
...
I unironically do.
There's just something about vidya music that attracts me. Maybe the focus on melody and being loopable? I also really like to listen to meditative music when I work, and generally relisten to songs until I'm just sick of them. I rarely bother to actually actively listen to stuff too, and I prefer listening to track sequences from different genres and with different moods, rather than to albums.
There is probably composer music I would like, but I don't know the genre framework enough to figure out where to look. I occasionally find something I actually really like, but it's pretty rare. Mostly I get bored of the stuff I find pretty quickly.
Like that time I listened extensively to Telltale's S&M, absolutely loved the jazzy vibes, tried to venture into jazz and found Giant Steps boring as fuck, John Coltrane better but not really something I want to relisten to, Gone with Golson pretty neat but still not breathtaking. Like, if I found the most classic album boring, where do I go from there? Like, there's probably some kind of jazz I enjoy, but I don't know how to find it, or maybe I need to musically mature or something to "get" it, but then I have no idea how to do it and whether I really want to bother. I am willing to bother to a degree, but I get bored if I have to listen to stuff I just barely like for long periods of time, with no result.
Well, in any case, it's not like listening to vidya music is something bad in the first place.

Even worst, it's stupid phone poster
I don't think you can explain it.
Not really into JRPG or anime music, really. Into a couple of most memorable tracks, maybe, but most of them sound pretty generic to me too.
Unless the JRPG is Ar Tonelico or Atelier, of course.
I like some OPs from here and there, probably solely because of familiarity, or maybe they're genuinely better. I really don't know, since I usually don't care about any kind of pop music, but JPOP is just barely entertaining enough for me. Still don't listen to it as extensively as vidya music, though.
>generic
I thought you said you like melodic music, but now it's about how unique it is?
>organizing your folder by alphabetical order
>instead of by genre, themes and beat
Enjoy not being in the zone
>cherrypicking trap bullshit
There you go. Though people will probably claim that it's only that or pretentious indie shit, as if those are the only two types of music out side of your bleepbloops.
Meanwhile Gucci gang and rakk city bitch is deep
It's completely fine to cherrypick in this case.
I do, but some kinds of melodic music bore me.
I don't understand it myself really. I guess I'm too ignorant to really be able to explain my taste. I can unfortunately judge only in "tasty-yucky" spectrum as of now.
I guess I maybe need melodic music that I am not able to predict in my head, or something? When I find music boring, my thoughts usually are "I totally knew he would go for that one".
With GTA you only have to look up the artists from songs you liked and listen to more of their stuff.
Or in the case of original vidya composers, you can follow them on social media or read interviews with them, and they will often mention musicians who inspire them.
And BAM, suddenly you would be listening to normal music which potentially fits with your previous tastes.

Cherrypicking in this topic is retarded. Plain and simple.
>that autist that listens to nothing but soundcloud EDM, video game soundtracks, anime soundtracks, and doujin soundtracks
Kirby OSTs are some of the best music I've ever heard. I wish that I was able to characterize their genre so I could find actual music like it, but the best I've got is "jazz-kinda???". If anyone knows some songs that sound like Kirby music, please, share them.
A bit on the generic side, but overall alright. Would probably not care to relisten to, but don't really dislike those. I liked the second more from the outset, but on relisten the first is better.
Also almost ridiculously "videogamey". Not in having this "vibe" that vidya music has, but in the way that everybody thinks this is what a generic vidya track (especially JRPG tracks) sounds like.
this t.b.h.
Fuck you Ragnarok soundtrack is amazing.

If any of you are looking for non-VGM that sounds like VGM, I'd recommend getting into jazz fusion. There are a lot of great tracks that sound like they'd be straight out of a game.
Name me something that sounds better, faggot.
I listen to vaporwave unironically.
How bad am I, Cred Forums?
I don't remember the last time I wanted to listen to a non-videogame soundtrack. Has to be at least 10+ years ago. Right now I'm into a lot of Ace Attorney shit youtube.com

Can you imagine every scene set in the same room having the same music that plays from the start of the track every time? Yeah.
Vidya music will never reach the heights of classical or musique concrete, and that's fine. Vidya music doesn't have to be high art.

I'll honestly wait for suggestions, because I want to know. The small collection of "normal" music I listen to that don't fall into the above listed tired tropes are very few and far between.
thanks you reminded me to listen to the epic one punch intro
please be bait
add A Hat in Time's soundtrack
The soundtrack was literally the only thing Xenoblade 2 did better than its predecessors. I played 160 hours into that shitshow, I deserve to be able to enjoy its music without having to put up with PYRAAAAAA MYTHRAAAAAAAA
>domestic issues
there is absolutely nothing wrong with this
Sure, user. If it'll help you sleep better I'll say it's bait.
It's not bait. Deal with it.
My music playlist is
>45% vidya
>5% anime (Mostly just music from DB, DBZ, OPM, and BnHA)
>30% dadrock and dadmetal
>20% newer stuff that I actually liked
Besides, I only spend 20 - 25 minutes driving a day. No need for more more music to impress all 0 other people I have driving with me.
holy shit dude
if you're not fucking around, check out but unironically
never thought I'd see someone spewing that literal brainlet argument in 2018, and NOT in a youtube comment section? god damn
either this is the absolute best bait I've ever seen on Cred Forums or this place really has changed

>All of this Dad rock and Linkin Park lite
I already listen to most of these, and the fact that there are literally only, like, 4 artists in that list is pretty telling.
I do enjoy Pink Floyd a lot, but I've played The Wall and Dark Side to death, and Animals is an entire album is pseudo-politics where Roger Waters barely even knows what he's saying.
David Bowie is okay, but his music is very hit or miss for me, and I unironically like covers of his music than the originals.
Radiohead is also MASSIVELY overrated as fuck.
Who is this barking faggot? Millennials are a blight.
dude go back to facebook please
>implying the Halo 2 soundtrack isn't one of the greatest musical achievements in all of human history
Nigga, please.
I sincerely believe that if you don't like listening to music then you're an uncreative person.
this is why i can't get into music
I'd agree, with the same going for literature, and not sci-fi or high fantasy garbage.
What makes scifi and fantasy garbage?
>Dad rock and Linkin Park lite
Which ones? Animals is pretty fucking brilliant but if you don't like political commentary The Division Bell and Meddle are just for you. And the fact that I gave you only a few artists is because I don't branch out very often. Try Enigma, half of The Rolling Stones, most of Metallica, some of Deep Purple, Soft Machine, Hawkwind and especially King Crimson
>Gives me a real 80-90s Sega arcade vibe
Funny that you say that, because that specific track was actually used in Super locomotive:

There's a decent chunk of weeb spics in texas. I cannot validify the slim part though.

eww icky and gross
ugh, so creepy
whoever made that is such a garbage person
It's ok to listen to some video game music but you're missing out dismissing everything else, there are artists that can trully deliver strong and meaningful messages through their songs, life changing even. It's not so difficult, just start with the basics, what everyone knows, and work your way up to things that resonate with you the same way video game music does. For me it's Michael Jackson, a lot of his songs have a very videogamey feel. And I don't even enjoy them for that reason
youtube.com
Music it's such a wonderful side of life, don't look away from it

I don't listen to exclusively video game music, but holy shit do I feel compelled to after listening to what today's pop music consists of.
That doesn't describe the scifi that I used to read (e.g. Asimov, Dick, Lem, Strugatski).
Jesus Christ, you uneducated fucks make Cred Forums look like musical geniuses
>not listening exclusively to macross 82-99 and similar artists
youtube.com
theres nothing better to listen when playing vidya
That was more declaiming of fantasy in general, and pop sci-fi
Guys Im a pretty big nerd but if you seriously only listen to game music people will make fun of you and I dont blame them because you are legit autistic
you're right, Cred Forums is better. guess I should start listening to pink noise now.
You called?

Maybe you should leave the autism diagnoses to medical professionals. And why should anyone be harassed for listening to game music?

Its not that you should be harassed for liking video game music. Its just that normal people will think you are a school shooter because honestly who the fuck only listens to game music. There is so much music so many genres how can you not listen to anything else....
Normal people are also absolutely braindead, low IQ retards. Why should I care what they think?
Normal people are mentally retarded and ill.
The lyrics were less retarded to be fair. Although not by much
youtube.com
Yeah, i listen to Furi's OST unironically.
It's excellent
normal people are in this case correct

to make an analogy since it's a Cred Forums tradition, you are only playing mcdonalds happy meal cd games and pointing out that people who only play farmville and bejeweled have shit taste
yes they do but you shouldn't throw rocks in glass houses
I have not heard of this game before.
But now I want to play it.
Video game music is very varied and high quality.
>he listen to nothing but eurobeat
Nah, you'd be suprised how well japanaru music and hip hop fit in with each other
>he listens to kingdom hearts opening songs on the daily
That's good shit dude, got anymore like it?
I require an example, please
this is just Jrock though, still good
Lmao
I have a friend who does this shit all the fucking time. You bet your goddamned ass he also has a neckbeard
Most movies are made by americans and use american big budget composers that all sound identical because theyre all trying to emulate the same hans zimmer song
video game music is mediocre compared to pure music, as it naturally would be
I listen to it too sometimes but come the fuck on, it's not even some special type of music that does something unique so you have an excuse, you only do it because you're either lazy and clueless at best, at worst because you're genuinely autistic
It's okay if they're undertale remixes.
bro I already know this by heart haha!
I always thought that it would've been amazing if J Dilla and Nujabes did an album together before they died :C
THIS IS NOW A EUROBEAT THREAD
youtube.com
I only stated the truth.
Video game music is high quality and it isn't any less "real" than non-video game music. You must be genuinely autistic.
Haha fuck yeah dude that would be sick, both were the absolute shit when I was growing up
Best part about being a fan of DnB/Jungle is that no matter what the source material is from it will always sound sick because it's just amazing beats.
Rayman Origins had a highly underrated sound track, from the same composer as BG&E.
youtube.com
youtube.com
That first track.
Video game music is music for video games. Pure music is music for music. They don't differ in form, but they differ in the way they are produced. A musician overflowing with inspiration doesn't wait around for someone to make a video game he can put his music in. But you only listen to video game music, so what do you know?
Lorn is really great, check out his other work if you haven't already.
Video game music is music. Music is music. There's nothing mystical going on here.
>But you only listen to video game music, so what do you know?
Where did I say this?
>uuuuaerrghhhh normal music is so boring
>proceeds to blast the OST of Rockstar games or MGS games whenever they use normal music
Really gets that ol' noggin' joggin'
TV ads are cinema too, yet they're clearly different.
HE
that song is great but thanks to it i know the original and that band is amazing.
youtube.com
how much rick and morty you on there buddy
These were written for games:
youtube.com
youtube.com
How are they as different from "real" music as TV ads are from feature films?
Literally nothing wrong with Eurobeat
youtube.com
We are not talking about individual tracks. We are talking about game music as a set. The set of video game music is a subset of all music, and it does not occupy the highest tiers of quality in there, not a majority of the space within that set. You'd have to be stunted to only listen to it.
Games are for playing
Songs are for listening
Films are for watching
Trying to make games more about watching or listening is literally a plague of this industry
Music is made up of individual tracks and video game music does not necesarily sound any different from non-video game music nor is there some magical reason why video game music must not be good quality.
Fucking THIS
Nothing wrong with a good soundtrack on either portion however

This game had a surprisingly good soundtrack
I have a friend who only listens to the Payday2 songs and crap like linkin park and avenged sevenfold, I kek audibly whenever he tries to play that shit in my speakers.
The reason is production. Artists are tyrants. Musicians make music, painters make paintings, filmmakers make film, game designers make games, novelists make novels, etc. This is why game storylines suck compared to books and movies, why picturebooks are seen as childish and why movie soundtracks have become increasingly blary generic nonsense. A digitalized photo of a painting is fundamentally the same as a digital painting, but they are still distinct from each other because their means of production and purpose are different. It's not to say that a mercenary musician can't do a homerun, or that there can't be a genius who only wants to make video game music, but the general trend exists. It's stupid to limit yourself.
>Musicians make music
And who do you think makes the music for games?
>and why movie soundtracks have become increasingly blary generic nonsense
Not in Japan.
That's very early sci-fi and since the elements used on those stories have been played to death
>he doesn't listen to brutal death metal covers of touhou soundtracks
literal philistines to be honest
Nightcore isn't a genre, it's the act of speeding up dance music. DDR covered a wide variety of electronic genres and is thus not comparable.
Nightcore essentially is a genre in the same way that vaporwave is a genre.
Nightcore can kind of be considered a subgenre of Happy Hardcore.
Vaporwave is not nearly as derivative as nightcore, and there's also original vaporwave.
>he cares about music
nightcore and happy hardcore sound similar and share an anime/bubblegum aesthetic but the catch is
>nightcore = sped up and/or remixed dance songs
>happy hardcore = original compositions.
if I was a musician interested in making tracks for solitary listening I'd prefer that the most common way of listening to them wasn't hidden behind *DING* *MONSTER SCREAMS* "I'M OUT OF MANA" "HUP HUP" *BRRRATTATATAT* *BOOM* *KA-CHING* "SO LONG GAY BOWSER". You're literally making a sideshow for the main attraction.
>Not listening to good shit regardless of what it comes from
Use it everyday on my daily commute and while I'am working in the shop.
Video game music can be and is composed like standalone music.
>listening to music ironically
That would be the real \:-)
I mostly listen to real music but FE10's soundtrack is amazing
>sufficient musical IQ
Still better than Coldplay.
did you ever play a video game or is this bait?
I think he's from some other board.

Yep. It's a shame most of Cred Forums is too ignorant to enjoy it.
>He
>Not listening to this unironically

NO
Literally nothing wrong with that.
Japanese games have superior music, and I've moved on from all the trash that doesn't fit in that category.
you shoukd try something like Dio
DONG
youtube.com
Have this playing as I saw the thread.
i do, and yet i don't have a neckbeard like your ugly ass friend.
At least put something from Sonic CD if you're going to embarrass yourself like that.
The fact that music is composed for a specific context in movies and video games shouldn't be the point, it's about the grooves.
I don't care what the fuck it's for or why it's a thing, good beats/samples make great mixes.
No different than other artists with their niche in other genres; more creativity than the formulaic pop/rap/redneck/emo being mass produced nowadays.
>japanese eurobeat
>not glorious Italian eurobeat
Something are just meant to be the way they are user, just like how eurobeat is meant to be made by Italians with broken English to be sold in Japan
>guy at work asked what i listened to.
>i said i only listen to video game soundtracks
>he says oh wow i never heard that before. i never played a game in my life.
and that was it. nigger you're fucking retarded.
>he uses the term "vidya"

anyone religiously listen to the phantasy star online ost?
>Cred Forums getting upset that more people listen to bing bing wahoo than his literally who generic indie rock band

>E.G.G.M.A.N.
youtu.be

>Not listening to C418 unironically
Disdain for plebs.
>That silly nigga who listens to nothing but 6ix9ine
That's exactly what I love about vidya music, I don't listen to hear about some metaphorical bullshit, I just want a good melody and makes me feel good, whether it pumps me up or calms me down. I hate a lot of modern "nomral" music because I feel artists generally end up paying less attention to the "music" of music to be some kind deep message that doesn't add anything to the song itself, I want to feel emotions, not messages.
Vidya music has plenty of personality because they fit the game's tone, and put you in the perfect emotional state.
Sonic music is fast and and energetic because Sonic games are fast and energetic.

Kirby songs are upbeat and frantic becuase Kirby games are upbeat and frantic.

>tfw realizing normies actually listen to mainstream music
I fail to see why listening to VG music is seen as bad more effort goes into it than a large amount of music these days
Heres mine
I only listen to vidya, anime and 70/80's music
I have to tell people at work that I don't listen to music because the music I listen to is video game and film soundtracks, classical music, and military marches
Thankfully no one have questioned yet why I then come to work wearing headphones
I have no shame in admitting I only listen to anime and vidya music, that's the power of autism for you.
>obsession with final fantasy
>kingdom hearts

>limp bizkit
>somebody says "Oh I listen to a bit of everything haha"
>i ask them their favourite doowop album or jazzgrind artist
>no response
If someone ever got ahold of my tracklist I could live with the soundtrack shit, explaining what SS Marschiert in Fiendesland is going to be difficult though
I never had a nintendo console growing up so never heard any of that side, nothing wrong with FF or sonic each game does its own twist of certain songs which makes it refreshing.
The Kingdom Hearts stuff is mainly just the vocal songs from Utada hikaru.
ohh and the LB stuff is due to me being a late 80s kid who was forced to listen to my parents music thus the depeche mode and MM.
So yeah hardly an obsession
>say the name of some subgenre
>be amazed that not everyone, even people who might of listened to the music, might not know the specific name of the subgenre
