Dad rock mainly, but I’ll occasionally listen to video game music, depending on my mood.

pretty much only 80s rock and vidya

>mostly
>he doesnt exclusively listen to instrumental anime themed video game music
>being this much of a normie

I don’t even listen to music.

is persona the normie of weeb gaming?

weeb gaming is the normie of gaming

you're both wrong, and you're both normies

that isn't anti-normie, that's anti-taste

I listen to Persona music while studying, but that’s it.

>t. normie

Define dad rock. Provide examples.

If you are going to post yuka-tan then at least post a higher resolution

>normie

spotted the normalfag trying to fit in

haha no it isn't. you're anti taste

look at this fucking normie

everyone check this normie out...

spotted the faggot trying to be a bitch

you're not an anti-normie, you're just a miserable lonely person who was never influenced by others' music tastes due to close to no contact with other people while growing up and being shunned aside, so you got used to the only thing that blasted in your earphones, video game music

No, I listen to music I like and don't care how popular it is or where it's from

you're just a basic loser trying to project your insecurities onto me. i'm video chatting my girlfriend right now and we are playing final fantasy xiv. haha, what are you doing, sitting your fat ass on Cred Forums. fucking loser faggot lol

She's so cute, and it's not fair
IT'S NOT FAIR THAT A FICTIONAL CHARACTER CAN TRICK ME INTO FEELING, WHILE I CONTINUE TO BE ALONE

why would you do that?
if you like music from videogames chances are you will probably enjoy even more of the same genre even if it's not from a videogame.

>anti-normie
>girlfriend
congratulations, you played yourself

we are both anti normies.

Well its not gonna change if you sit here while doing nothing to find someone
Or are you a unironic waifufag? Please tell me you are not

yeah normies haha epic post my dude I exclusively listen to videogame OSTs or music that comes in my monthly lootcrate™, stay nerdy my man, keep the internet weird!
#imsuchanerd #LOOTGET

again
>anti-normie
>girlfriend

this but unironically

No that would be autistic. However I do have a couple of video-game-based songs in my gym playlist

go back to playing overwatch normie

and i'm the miserable faggot. what a loser normie you are!

>that would be the autistic
good

If what people consider "dad rock" these days is anything pre-'97 I'm going to end it.

ITT: Normalfags pretending they aren't normalfag

I say this every time I see a thread like this. Listening to videogame music is A-OK, but listening to it exclusively is pretty pathetic.
There's some great music in games and I often find a level of depth and groove that seems absent from music you'd hear outside, but these tracks came from somewhere. Game music didn't just poof into existence.
Try selecting some of your favorite tracks, find the composer and look at their work as a whole. See what their inspiration was. You'll often find classical music, jazz, prog rock and early electronic music to be the basis of a lot of their work.
Bach is pretty metal, for classical music. Moondog has some great jazzy tunes and sets perfect ambience for a lot of games. King Crimson and Gentle Giant have all the virtuosity you could crave in music technique and depth of sound. Yellow Magic Orchestra and Ryuichi Sakamoto's Thousand Knives album are instantly recognizable as precursors to vidya music while also being funky as hell.

TL;DR: don't listen exclusively to vidya music. Find out why that music exists, who inspired it, and expand your horizons.

>not normie
>listen to video game music
Pick one

I have a bunch of production people working under me who continuously listen to music from trash like rocket league.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but listening to vidya music is as normie as it gets.

Is bound to be true at some point isnt it ?

i should clarify, i only listen to japanese video game soundtracks.

Well, like I said, Ryuichi Sakamoto and YMO have been hugely influential to Japanese game music. Zun stated he takes inspiration from them for Touhou, and if you give them a listen, you'd know why.
Koji Kondo used jazz standards internationaux almost all his shit. All the catchy tunes from N64 era Mario and Zelda games are Kondo-ized jazz. Moondog might seem familiar in some instances with some riffs being eerily similar.

Anything referenced in Jojo.

so i should see where they get inspired? what about yoko shimomura or shoji meguro?

>ironic weeb normalfag wanting to feel superior
you're pathetic

I literally do not know what to say when girls ask me about what music I like. I never listened to anything as a kid so I never developed tastes in music. I still don't even listen to the radio when driving. I recognize songs but I'd never be able to tell you their titles or who performs them.

i am superior to you

Same.
People are able to recognize genres of music easily and are good at shit like that but i am unable to do that.
I don't know how to into music at all. I don't remember bands, albums etc.

>another episode of normalfags thinking he's not a normalfag

Why do they always do this?

Although many of his works feature a signature rock style, Meguro experiments with different musical genres, such as orchestral, electronica, jazz, and hip hop on various projects.[4][6] Meguro cites video game composers Koichi Sugiyama, Hiroshi Kawaguchi, and Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, as well as T-Square, Casiopea, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky as some of his musical influences.[4][1] Regarding the use of English lyrics in many of the Persona games, Meguro stated that due to the Japanese people not fully understanding the language, it helped create music that was not as distracting to them as Japanese would be. [Shoji Meguro]

Shimomura lists Ludwig van Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin, and Maurice Ravel as some of her influences on her personal website. [Yoko Shimamura]

You see what I'm getting at? Doesn't mean you'll instantly be a Beethoven buff, but there's a common thread.

Yes
But what if girl asks you
>hey user what kind of music do you listen to?
How do I answer?

Classical, prog, early electronically and jazz.
Voilà.
Learn the names of your favorite composers and their genres. People will give you puzzled looks, but they asked a question and you have an answer. From there you can have an actual conversation and maybe even listen to their reccomendations if they like any of the genres you mentioned.

>trying so desperately to be anticonformist that you end up conforming to a different niche all-together
lmaoing @ ur life

>Ultimate anti-normie

You must be 18 to post on the Cred Forums.

so fuck off

at least I'm no normalfaggot, faggot

yes you are faggot

Shut up both of you.
I'm the faggot and if you don't stop I'll suck your dicks off.

If you are not a normalfag you have to like my little pony, do you like my little pony?

btw, remove global rule 15

I mainly listen to butt rock.

I'm a dad and I listen mainly to metal and industrial. Does that make it dad rock?

this was a pretty all right wank.
thank you

cmon son, up your game and be the ultimate weeb trash like me and only listen to jpop

OP probably doesn't even go in /jp/ and thinks you're all weird

No, I actually have good taste.

>normies
fucking newfags and normalfags

no, i've been listening to a fairly equal distribution of nonvidya, vidya, and anime music
most of the nonvidya music i listen to is from between the 50s and 90s and very little current century garbage
i also don't listen to most vidya music that other people here seem to tend to listen to, going by what i see linked in other threads
like i remember when people were shocked that i didn't care for banjo kazooie music

...

I wanted to listen to more kinds of music, but the shit I'm interested in are so fucking obscure that it's almost impossible to find good sourcers.

I'd love to hear more smooth, relaxing music like the ones you hear in 90s pornos or documentaries, but I don't even know what to call that shit.

post a song you really like and I'll try reccomending something

>90s pornos or documentaries
youtube.com/watch?v=KvDl-Ey3vTQ
???

Found this album while looking for some flamenco-jazz shit, which is the closest thing I can think of.
youtube.com/watch?v=sICoPpp1MQM

The only group I found remotely similar to this album are two sand niggers called Shahim & Sepehr. Really good stuff, but I wouldn't even know where to find more and what to look for. Tell me if this genre has a name.

Hearing this particular song reminds me of the Rocker forest nearm Prontera in Ragnarok. Fucking chills man.

That sounds a lot like 80s porno. More lively and synthesized.
90s stuff at least in my mind was when we got saxophones, smooth jazz and more relaxing music.
But then again, "porn music" is hardly a descriptive way of trying to define a genre.

youtube.com/watch?v=4-PkAQcuZOw
all you need
>but its not vidya
dont care

vidya and anime osts

And you don't seem to understand~

Anybody else a music brainlet here?

Rock from the 70s and 80s, and no-vocals electronic music are the only good genres

have another boogie tune
youtube.com/watch?v=Trwc34OIwlw

The Persona 3 Dancing remixes are catchy and all but you can barely hear any resemblance to the originals

i used to listen to a lot of it. now the only times i listen to it are ocr remixes. i listen to japanese bible radio for listening practice

If I told you a couple of the things I hear, you'd probably think I'm a super cultured and refined motherfucker. But if you press me even a bit further you'll soon realize I only listen to like 5-10 groups and literaly nothing, and I do mean NOTHING else.

So yes, I consider myself a Cred Forums brainlet.

youtube.com/watch?v=yQ7BcobAshc

lmao

Shut the fuck up faggot, if I want to listen to a type of music exclusively, I’ll fucking do it. I ain’t gonna go searching for inspirations and all that other bullshit.

noone has to expand shit in music, dobson, it's just mirth, not politics nor sociology
get off your high horse on some leisurely activity

>anti-normie like me

Why should we? It’s just entertainment.

>I exclusively only watch Disney movies
>I exclusively only play first person shooters
>I exclusively only read young adult novels
>I exclusively only listen to videogame music

i listen to some pretty gay vidya music

think that's enough samples to establish my faggoty tastes

Well, which one is it?

Yer pretty fucking wonderful mate

Hate to break it to you buddy, but you are a normie. I got loads of Chads around my dorm that have Metal Gear, Mario, or Sonic related video game ringtones. I've caught them listening to anime opening music too, and anytime we carpool some Chad throws on a Mega Man, Undertale, Persona, or Civilaztion song off the soundtrack.

Now nightcore remixes of Atari Jaguar video game music covered by Filipinos on bandcamp is where the real anti-normie music lies.

Daily reminder that Cred Forums coined the term Normal-Fags and they were never referred to as "normies" until Reddit users got banned for saying the "f-word", so mods spread around a more PC term instead that everyone there accepted and then spread to this site.

>Normal-Fags
It's normalfags you retard
>normies came from Reddit
No, normies came from /r9k/ as an intentionally childish version of normalfags as part of their attempt to corrupt Pepe and make him unappealing to normalfags. Paranoia over the term normies however, is a very recent thing started by newfags like you who don't even remember that.

What osts do you listen to OP? Trying to find some good stuff.

Not him but what makes you think normie was ever acceptable outside of /r9k/?

Yes.
>user what's your favorite genre of music?
>I don't have a favorite genre, I just like video game music.
>oh so you like techno?
>no not really, its hard to explain.

>vidya OSTs
>prog rock
>technical metal
>pop rock like elton john or journey
>electro swing
>ska
>folk punk
>backpacker hip-hop like nujabes

I actually can't think of a more vile music taste than this, and Cred Forums is filled with people like this.

hello normie

Right here. I used to pirate them, but 13 GB later I grew tired of trying to download every song. Youtube Music is a fucking godsend, especially with Youtube Red

Not saying you have to listen to Bach, since I don't even. But I've heard his shit, and I like Deep Purple and you don't want to understand what makes vidya music great (apart from the in-game moments you attribute to it), then that's your prerogative.
But just because some music isn't from vidya, it doesn't automatically make it 2016's top pop hits. And if you were to explore more music, you might find something you enjoy, especially if it's related to music you already appreciate.
Anyway, my comments were more for the anons asking for leads on how to get into other music.
I still love you though.

What THE FUCK am I supposed to do with this boner Atlus??????

Nah, expanding my horizons with music would not be enjoyable for me, the reason I love vidya and anime music is because I think about that vidya or anime when I listen to that music or song.
I used to not care at all about stuff like "Roundabout" until I watched JoJo, I literally can't enjoy music unless I can relate it to something else I enjoy, like I only enjoy shit like "What is Love" and "Numa Numa" and other classic meme songs because they remind me of old YouTube.

Well, I'm sort of the same way. I enjoy what I reccomended because it reminds me of vidya music, or roadtrips I've been on and otherwaise subjective experiences. But I find there's often bites of songs I like which really resonate with me more than the rest of a song or an ost. And those bits can then be found in new music which has some similar elements.
Say with Roundabout, you really appreciate that "drop" near the beginning, where all the To Be Continued moments happen, it can be both because of JoJo and the memes, but maybe you also really like the bassline, and then you hear a similar pattern in a non-vidya/anime/meme song and you positively correlate it to that same enjoyment.
In my case, Fragile has been sitting in my dad's car since the seventies, and I'd always want to listen to it when we'd be on the road. But then I was shown the other Yes albums, and King Crimson and instantly knew I'd like it (Bruford and Anderson played in both bands, as I later found out). And then when the JoJo anime started airing and Roundabout played on the cliffhanger my mind was blown.
I'm getting off subject there, but if you like certain patterns and textures in music, other than associated memories, then you'd potentially like other music.
