Ace Combat 5 is pure ludo

>I've lost time and time again... but now, I've finally won.

It's been nearly 15 years, and videogames still haven't seen a moment nearly as Ludo as this. Name a single more Ludo moment. Protip: You can't

What is the best game to get into Ace Combat with?

4, 5 and 0. The three greatest games in the series. If you don't own a PS2, you're in a tough spot, since they don't emulate all that well (At least they didn't last time I checked, that might've changed).
There's Ace Combat X on the PSP and Assauly Horizon Legacy + for the N3Ds. While not as amazing as the PS2 trilogy, both are still damn good games

This series has a strange cult following, and I don't think I understand it. How much of it is due to narrative, music, etc? When I look at the gameplay, I don't see what's so compelling about these types of flight games.

The series has done an amazing job at making you feel like a badass. It has got just the right mixture of cheesiness and legitimate difficulty, as well as amazing scores to hit you right in the gut with fun. You always feel like you're accomplishing some critical part of a bigger picture in every mission, even if all you're doing is escorting a couple of passenger planes across a border (the mission I'm talking about is literally called "Escort"). If I'm not describing it well enough, I'm sorry, but it is kind of hard to explain it to someone who hasn't also played it.

They're fun arcade flight games and when you get the hang of the controls and get truly skilled, it's quite a magical experience. People talk about "Power fantasies", and I don't think any other series does those better than Ace Combat. Each game usually has you going from a nobody on the losing side of a war, to a feared ace who strikes fear on the hearts of the enemies, and it'ss always incredible.
The alternate universe, the cool planes and sci-fi tech, the lore, the incredible soundtracks, the stories, all of those are great.
Ace Combat has something for everyone.

Would you say they have a significant skill ceiling?

Play on Ace difficulty and learn some basic fighter maneuvers. It's a lot more fun that way.

>ludo

There isn't really much to challenge you and push beyond the skill you have in the games, unless you want to play on Ace difficulty and such where you just die in one missile. S ranks aren't that hard if you plan things out in advance and have a good plane. Some people have fun doing stuff like trying to beat missions with planes ill-suited for them.

different guy but not really, even on the hardest difficultly it isn't that bad.

The journey begins...

They're not terribly haard games, but teaching yourself proper manouvers and learning how to play effectively takes practice.

I wanted to do that thing where you write out something in the first line and then have it spelled out descending vertically with CUM HISTORIA but the posting system hates fun so just imagine that I did. tia

They're not nearly as hard as say, a real flight sim, but they give a decent challenge, especially if you use low tier planes and choose not to cheese the AI by repeating loops. You can also try and play with realistic armaments respective to your chosen plane.

That's the kind of stuff that I'm looking for. It sounds interesting, too bad I no longer have a PS2, and my PC is an old toaster. So are the PSP games the next best thing then?

>Ludo
What does this meme buzzword even mean?

Just the first one. The second PSP game isn't that hot.

kino > ludo > sickdark > filmic > cinematic experience > epic > dank

Is this still the best videogame trailer ever?

It really is amazing, I remember watching it over and over years ago.

I unironically think AC0 is the best game ever made.

this gives me chills everytime
zero>5>4

When I was like twelve I beat 04 with bombs and machine gunfire exclusively.
Bombing planes in mid air was the best.

its just fun

I wouldn't disagree

I usually put AC5 first but it depends on my mood. It's so strange because I hate cinematic games and I usually just want to skip cutscenes and go straigt to the game, but every single time I replay AC5 I make sure to watch ever single cutscene, and it's always great. From Shore Birds to Aces, AC5 never lost it's magic for me.

Yes. Yes it is.

The final mission were they yell "fire everything we got even if our own plane gets hit during the process".

I still caan't believe we're getting a proper numbered follow-up to the PS2 AC games in the year 2018

>If you get shot down you'd better crash were I can't see you.

Savage

just got into this series and I'd legit play more of ace combat 4 if it didn't run so shit on my emulator
