File managers

Now we'll discuss file managers.

What file managers do you use, and why?

I'll start. My daily driver is PCManFM. It's modern without being bat shit minimalist, has a fair amount of settings. Follows freedesktop.org where it should. The perfect balance between autist level and Gnome level. I used Thunar before but that is almost Gnome level un-customizable, I never looked back after switching to PCManFM.

For terminal work (and some repetitive tasks) I use Ranger. It's fucking awesome, but will take some config work to get file associations to your liking. Config is written in Python, so super flexible!

explorer.exe

this

I use Ranger. Very cozy. I also like how easily extensible it is.

Sucks if you are working with a large folder of images and would benefit from thumbnails. Especially if you save a lot of trash from this site.

There's literally no practical use for thumbnails.

I use ranger too
For images, check out sxiv thumbnail mode.
Ranger even has some integration with sxiv
Like, when you open one image, all images in the same directory are passed as argument too

When a folder is full of 982189131891.jpg, I use thumbnails to find the image. Ranger has image previews but it's a bit slower to search though one a time.

Very rare use case for me, though. Don't know about others.

There's your problem. Name your files properly.

found the gnome dev

I wish Directory Opus was ported to linux, its pretty powerfull, I'm disorganized as fuck and Dopus makes much easier organize files and folders

i use this one, OP.

it's very good, but the fact that it's impossible to completely replace windows explorer is a PITA

Even with tag-like filenames thumbnails are an absolute must. Source: my 75k tagged pictures.

explorer.exe + clover.

I used that one back in the day on my miggy. Damn, I miss that machine some times.

Install Gentoo. (No joke, there is a Dopus clone by that name.) Also try Worker.

>tfw using thunar
should I just kms?

Dolphin, yo

It's called gentoo, not Gentoo :^)

Oh, that looks great. Thanks a lot.
I try to for images that have meaninful context like reaction images. But I sometimes scrape /w/ and /wg/ for wallpapers and other times there is no useful way to name them. Like when I save desktops or porn.

Well, it is possible to completely replace Windows.

Whoops. (You)'d myself.

Ranger and caja are objectively the best file managers

linux is bad but i will replace windows with it if it becomes good one day =)

osx is extremely bad and i will never replace windows with it

Explorer.exe
Used thunar when I had arch installed
