How has apple remained relevant and competitive for 40 years?

consumerism

They work hard to make it as beautiful, simple, and accessible as possible. This made them stand out, and after standing out it became easier for them to get people to buy their products.

They haven't been relevant for 40 years. They've only been relevant for about the last 15 or so.

Without any hyperbole or exaggeration and in full, utter seriousness: they're a meme company.

They almost went bust. Before the iPod they didn't have any competitive product on offer at that time. The company was going down.

PROFIT. Apple was able to make a profit while others sold their hardware at a loss. Why? Because Apple is able to differentiate themselves from the generics.

The Apple ][ is what made Apple. This was in 1978.

The real question is: how has there not been any relevant competition to Apple in the last 15-20 years?

>40 years

By getting Bill Gates to bail them out.

The iMac and other new Macs saved Apple in the first years after Steve Jobs returned. The company had already returned to good health by the time the iPod launched.

In return for Apple dropping a years-long, multimillion-dollar lawsuit over Microsoft's theft of QuickTime source code.

One or two good products onwards to a decade + of obscurity (vis-a-vie Sculley to Amelio) and a return with the iPod / iPhone.

So I say again. Apple has only been relevant for about the last 15 or so years.

*vis-a-vis

Because at this point, building an ecosystem of tightly integrated hardware, software, and services on the scale at which Apple operates is virtually impossible.

Apple is the only surviving company from the early days of the home computer market that makes the whole widget. They have a 40-year headstart on everyone else (like Microsoft and Google) who now realize they were right to design hardware and software in tandem.

having tested pretty much everything apple has to offer, it is NOT simple, it's not accessible, and beauty isn't really an objective thing.
All they do is make users rely on stuff that locks them into their ecosystem

Because they're the best. Look at it from any angle you wish, but as the most valuable company in the world ($613 BN) the numbers don't lie.

the merging of the fashion industry with computing as it became cheap enough to be in the hands of the general public

cheap chink shit on the inside with a shiny cover and planned obsolescence built in

I would be the richest person on earth too if every 6 months literally millions of stupid middle class cunts would throw one month of their salary at me

You just have to stop thinking like someone who knows how to use a computer
>Be normalfag
>Want to buy new computer
>Buy Mac
>Plug in 1 cable, press power button
>Turns on
>Built in web browser is usable
>Keyboard and mouse connect automatically
>Doesn't come with McAfee Shitshield 2024
>Comes with media player you already use on your iPhone
>If you break it you can take it to Apple's tech support instead of being scammed by Best Buy
>Can't shit up with bad software if you try
It's basically the step before asking your autistic grandson to help you and he installs Ubuntu on your 2006 Dell laptop

They advertise the shit out of their products and the consumers buy their shit.

This is literally all they have going. Their hardware outside of the brand is nothing special whatsoever and they innovate fuck all nothing.

George Carlin said it best...
Think about how dumb the average person is and then realize that half of 'em are even dumber than that!

the best answer in this thread. everyone else plebbin hard

The iPhone was incredibly innovative. Its a combination of innovation, luck and marketing. They had a good idea but right now it's all brand power, same as Microsoft and Windows
