Member when there were less mexicans?

lol RealPlayer. When WinAmp came out I was so happy.

What do you mean old?

Golem get ye gone

It's dead Kevin. Face it.

Shit was amazing.
I remember being able to watch news videos over 56k with that tech.

What the fuck happened?

x264 happened

I see dat Blackboard. What college you go to m8?

RIP in peace, the worst video codec of the early 2000s which somehow managed to get mainstream DVD player support.

Also, RIP 600MB CD encodes from TPB. You will not be missed.

Okay.

I know it's a community/tech college, but what school? We have to use that shit too.

Nope

Isn't it only for cuny?

IRSC

SRTC senpai. You live 5 hours away from me.

Oh nice senpai

...

>RealPlayer
It was legendary for its obnoxiousness and ability to run on startup despite user's best efforts.
>divx
>worst
It was the best of the all the other shit out there.
Having to deal with the codec soup of that era was awful:
>3ivx - mpeg4's retarded cousin
>vp7 - Duck's propietary trash
>Quicktime - works on my machine - on a mac
>indeo, cinepak, truemotion - the moe, larry, and joe of the codec world.

City University of New York?
No, it's for community/tech colleges who are part of the program. Something like 170 college systems are apart of it.

>streaming over 56k

Oh I must be thinking of cunyfirst then, I'm taking a online class and bb it's fucking trash.

Was really comfy

PRESENT DAY

PRESENT TIME

That's the biggest piece of shit software ever.

Doom and the web were born on the OS that is now macOS. Thats weird

Good times. I demolished my grandparents computer with lime wire but I learned a lot about executables, haha.

What's weird about that you fucking piece of shit?

Get a life.

Someone is awfully upset.

Thank god

I miss those times.

Who keeps the lights on for this company?

I keked

...

I was assuming they were owned by some larger corporation but RealNetworks is their own publicly traded company

Yeah I must have downloaded at least 100mb of pizza on the family computer back in the day, which was a real achievement.

This is fucking surreal. How is that physically plausible? Tell me they have ties with the mafia and they do shady shit like human trafficking or something.

I keep seeing the CEO of this company at this event I work multiple times a year. Rob Glaser. I have no idea how that company still exists, what they do, or why anyone would pay attention to anything that man says. I think they make "apps" now? No idea.

Not just community/tech colleges. I attend a liberal arts state university that uses Bb.

IT WHIPS THE LAMMAS ASS

My first porn download was on ares on my cousin's pc.
we watched it together.
I can still remember the name.
I can still remember the images.
I can even remember the sequence of things that happened on the video.
I'm almost sure that it was some weird kind of cp with porn movie production value.
Or maybe it wasn't
I dare not to search such a title nowadays.
The adventure has already lived and died.

nice argument, fag

You don't deserve an argument. What you just said is like saying a Learjet is the best type of submarine, the only appropriate response is to laugh.

the true legend

not dead

>tfw you look back and realize it was full of ads
funny thing is Skype also comes with lots of ads in it

Good point.
I know I can take hand brake and smash video file sizes down to nothing now

Version 6 (aka G2) is when they started going stupid with ads and trying to drum up their branding. Version 5 was just a simple player, and it worked well.

Still running

r@ygold. At that point I didn't think cp was wrong. I mean, I just wanted to see people my own age fucking, not all these old people. Ruined like 3 dells using kazaa

fuuuuug I got so many hookups with that.

That is AOL bastardized bloatware Netscape. Navigator 3.04 Gold or GTFO.

I was still using Winamp on the computer I was using before it broke in late 2012. Mainly because of this:

Shockwave media player

I used to use Realplayer from '09-'12. It was really good, but not as good as MPC-HC. RIP

It really whips the llama's ass

Thanks for that nostalgia tho

This is where I hot my first porn back in the day. At first you could just download anything. Then they got smart and you had to upload pictures to their FTP to gain currency to download more. And you had no ideal what you were getting. Just a filename and a prayer it wasn't a dick.

Remember when south park has its own story line rather than a full blow parody on current events to fulfill it's narrative?

I still use it daily, not for porn tho

Hated this shit.

...

this came out, and all of the sudden being a programmer became cool and badass

it barely had a story even in the first seasons. it might have less today, but replacing the random crude humor and [insert celebrity] with topical/pop-culture shit was an improvement IMO. watch old simpsons or sienfeld for clever stories.

>cool music player bro

>chrome is better anyway
kys. rip presto, the world didn't deserve you.

The player itself wasn't so good, but the fact that you could download so tiny video files back in the day was nice.

Still using it to be honest.

Anyone remember this?

So many CDs trashed, you fucker. Back on the days when CDs were expensive!

So true, after finding about 7zip I never looked back to winrar.
But still, the truly dead but legendary is pic related.

It's not. Tried it a few weeks ago and it no longer connects. aMule might still work though.

In other news, DC++ appears to be running fine

It's definitely not dead, it's just not king anymore. I honestly wonder who is still releasing xvid encodes, and who is downloading them. What does their sad little life look like that they're stuck on xvid?

What a great logo. Jobs was a boss. Paul Rand too.

>But still, the truly dead but legendary is pic related.
Winzip isn't dead. In fact they make quite some money by being packed with other software or being required by some software.

my first pc had windows vista and I hated every single piece of software that I used.

then I learned about linux

Used to blow my mind to see people sharing 1tb or more.

Real player was garbage, real arcade on the other hand was the absolute shit.
They had all the genesis ports, and the 1 hour demo limit was easy as fuck to get around. Good times.

It still blows my mine. I have 20mbps upload

Note that he is using plan9 in the background.

Every decent programmer hangs out on Freenode. There are a few warez channels left but they're not very popular anymore

Qmodem, anybody?

Lots of /vg/ threads and generals on other boards have Rizon chatrooms.

...Is chatrooms even the right word?

...

This and Kazaa (lite) was how I got started with file sharing. I really liked that all the hubs had chatrooms as well.

I'm pretty sure that me whining about stuttering in Naruto episode 15 (or something) in the chat was when I discovered VLC thanks to some kind stranger.

There are actually lots and with over 500 users in some

channels is the correct word

They've literally always made fun of current culture. You were just a kid in the early days and unaware of references being made

It's honestly better than what they have now.

>tfw searching for "pedophilia" and actually downloading some weird cp/molestation videos
those were the times

this.

And also brazilian subtitles encoded in every single file.

I was going to post this!

Only plebs don't use tar

well shit, i didn't realize i had my email attached to it, just recovered my pw

Patents probably. About the same thing

I imagine they're the same people who stretch a low resolution 4:3 video to fit their 16:9 tv and claim it's just as good as HD.

Yes. I'm sure streaming's more popular now but people definitely still download music

Schools in the Southeastern US are pretty fucking poor my man. My school doesn't even run the AC at night, so all the servers I work on in our department heat that room up to unbelievable temperatures. And half the time they don't even run them during the day.

And you don't seem to understand

>Brtiney.Spears_XXX_supertits_teen_creampie.mp3.avi.exe

I'm starting to see the old google logo as "old"

It isn't dead if it still works.

Kazaa? DC++? EMule?

So many times..

A shame you seemed an honest man

Can you people PLEASE stop turning Cred Forums into reddit? Thanks

The whole “haha, I get it!” “me too!” “me three!” “lololol me four!” circlejerk phenomenon is the number one reason I stay as far away from that shithole as possible.

If you want to circlejerk, please do it there and not here. Thanks

You can always go to another image board if your panties are in a bunch.

A lot of the earlier seasons episodes were just about the kids being kids, south park style. The episodes were self contained, often contained within the town, and less of them were 'current'.

There are a huge difference between seasons 1-12 and 17-19. They really flipped the script on season 17. I actually found it a lot more comfy and entertaining than I do the latest episodes. But it's still pretty good.

fpbp

And all the fears you hold so dear

This piece of beauty.
It still works, but it's very outdated.
And the filter importers are too old.

> written in C++
> very, very small
> very, fucking fast
> it could import all ABP filters

And boy, is it fast.
Compared to all this piece of shit blockers, even uBlock, it makes your browser FAST AS FUCK.

But then again, development stopped, sadly.
I loved it.

Other notable mention would be "Launchy".
It was also a great program.

step aside baby boy

>they killed old Skype versions
Fuck you micro$oft, version 3.something was perfect.

for i meant to post this image to humiliate you!

>Not being part of the windows 95 master race.

this.

What market were those workstations aimed at?

I know some modern music players support WinAmp skins.

>cinepak
I know the Sega 32x used that, mostly in those games that also required the Mega CD though.

Why would anyone do that?!

Will turn and whisper in your ear

What about Sorenson Video?

>Kazaa was also basically early YouTube. AMVs and gameplay videos out the ass.
That sounds pretty awesome actually. I watch Youtube videos by running them through youtube-dl myself,

>my first pc had windows vista

Oh god

Streaming is for fucking retards.

>swarms
oh good 90s buzzwords

>missing one of the worst and ugliest IRC clients

But why?

yknow, if you use wangblows 10, cortana is basically the same thing. She even tells jokes!

Yeah, except this literally never happened. I used kazaa incessantly between '99-'03, and not once did I """accidentally""" encounter standard pornography, let alone the other.

>Few AIM posts
This shit made me so much friends back in junior high. Rumors would go around about the AIM usernames of popular girls and shit like that.

When AIM slowly died, Yahoo Messenger took its place and then it slowly died as well.

Now everyone just uses stupid Facebook Messenger. AIM was cash.

You need to be 18 to post on this board.

Fuckin' this.

So many hours spent downloading single MP3s at 56.6k while hanging out in the built-in chatrooms.

>tfw you made a Fallout 2 UI skin for it
>tfw it still works 15 years later

If you actually miss using RealPlayer, just die in a fire right now.

Sorry mate, the wizard was the best one.

The only piece of software I'm legitimately sad about dying

>Eminem - Without Me.mpg
>open it
>I did not have sexual relations with that woman. I did however go to i-free-club dot com, where you can find hundreds of blah blah blah

That shit infuriated me to no end

Napster+Winamp is, to this day, the best solution for music downloading and playback that ever existed

how is it dead again
it still works just fine, im still using 2.0

If the RIAA didn't ignore Napster and record labels instead embraced or invested in the service, the entire music industry would be different today - and I guarantee that streaming would not be the standard of music procurement that it now is

This sounds like an overblown analogy, but much like global would be totally different if 9/11 didn't happen, the way we consume entertainment would be drastically different, and better, had the napster lawsuits never happened

well it isn't supported or under active development. that's why it's dead.

Isn't that the filename of something that gets you v&?

>.exe
It's a virus

AIM and yahoo msgr were the hottest shit

Now everyone uses shit like Snapchat and fagbook

Where did it all go so wrong?

Looking back, it was a piece of crap

I remember my first internet porn. It was 1995 or 96 i believe. My father was away for the weekend i was a sophmore or junior in highschool. I wasnt much interested in computers much at the time i spent most of my time innawoods or at the skatepark. Friend told me about AIM and that there were sluts and boobers available there. I took the dust cover off my pops computer and hit the space bar to wake it up. He had a bunch of windows open and the one that was on top of the pile had a woman in a dungeon somewhat strapped to a table....a midget enters the frame and puts his whole head into a terribly fake looking vagina and proceeded to "give her some head" even though the quality was terrible i was hooked and am now a complete degenerate

Add me, 55159897. I'll be online in about 5 hours.

I miss early 90s pre-www internet. Everything seemed fresh, BBSes / Fidonet were weird and fun, yet the amount of useless information was minimal. Even in the mid-to-late 90s, there was very little clickbait on the web apart from shitty warez sites with porn ads.

>Just realized that the doom fandom is older that the INTERNET

that's such a nice design
>tfw too used to window manager speed to use a gui ever again

That depends on how you define "the Internet."

Wow, now the whole internet is like those shitty warez sites with porn ads, but the ads don't have boobs. The Internet sucks these days.

back in the day it was the only way to watch porn on the computer
