Is there a difference between types of hard drives used in Macs and PC's?

the label on the mac hard drive has an apple logo on it

No, but there is a difference in the file systems.

No. I have a drive from a t40 in my powerbook G4 iirc.

But Macs can have "Fusion Drives". PC can't have that shit.

What's a fusion drive?

A "Fusion Drive" is a hybrid drive. Just a regular drive with 8GB - 32GB flash storage and software to determine what goes in flash storage.

yea, the mac ones cost 3x as much

No

An SSHD

Oh you mean an SSHD?

They are different.
Fusion Drive is a separate ssd and hdd in one case which is formatted as special Core Storage volume so u can use it as one drive. It is a filesystem level hybrid storage just like zfs.
SSHD is a hardware thing.

so kinda like an HDD and an SSD in some sort of RAID setup but not quite?

This

Like an HDD and an SSD with no RAID whatsoever. And the SSD's tiny. And you don't get to choose what goes on it. And the software that does sucks at its job.

If you replace the iMacs hard drive with a normal any hard drive the fans will just run full speed 100% because of some bullshit temp sensor shit in the hard drives they used.

Ridic

My iMac had a temp sensor on the HDD so I just mounted it on the SSD when I upgraded. When did they start doing this?

Powermac did this.

Well they must not do it anymore because mine's an Intel model

they did it on the 2009 and 2010 ones iirc.

Mine's a 2008 so they must've stopped and gone back to it

No. Apples shit is just more expensive.

PCs can have a sshd, which is the official name, not your apple marketing buzzword, you fuckin idiot.

>I don't know anything about computers, the posts

since 2013

the mac pro m.2 drives are mac only, you cannot go buy a generic m.2 drive and get the 3x faster performance without buying a mac only drive and they are very hard to come by. They only way you can get one running in PCI is to get one from someone who has upgraded or broken/dropped their mac

>thinks SSDs are HDDs
>calls others tech illiterate

>actually believing that shit
You sure are one brainwashed retarded apple sheep. Kill yourself.

Using apple is practically the same as knowing shit nothing about computers.

>MUH RETINA
>MUH FOOSION DRIVE
>MUH m.2

Guess what, everyone and his mom can have m.2 nowadays you dumb piece of shit.

I work at Office Depot. We sell WD external hard drives for PC and Mac. Mac drives are clearly labelled differently.

Both had same housing.
Both used the same 1TB WD Blue drive.
Both used the same USB3.0 micro USB cable.

The mac one was $20 higher. Because it said "for Mac".

>>thinks SSDs are HDDs

derp

guess what, you are wrong

try it and see

you have to get a mac m.2 ssd or be reduced to sata speeds

>Guess what, everyone and his mom can have m.2 nowadays you dumb piece of shit.

NOPE
O
P
E

Literally the only difference is that it comes formatted in HFS+ and a logo on the box.

lel

You're retarded please never touch a computer.

>You're retarded please never touch a computer.

you are wrong, show me how to replace an apple m.2 ssd with and off the shelf one

Throw out the apple crap and get a real computer and buy whatever m.2 you want

>Throw out the apple crap and get a real computer

get a net computer

you win, i concede all points
