ITT: useless tech you want

...

...

not quite useless but not really sure what its for

but still want

im honestly considering one of these to replace my thinkpad x240 that's breaking. Am i insane

iPad Pro with iPen (is that what it's called lmao?)
> great build quality
> beautiful display
> solid 10 hour battery life
> CPU is fast af

Tables are useless because your smartphone can basically do everything it does. However the experience on the tablet is superior due to the bigger display/much better battery life.

I'm an Android user, but for some reason I feel iOS is more polished for tablets nowadays, am I wrong?

iOS is the better OS, but Android's more capable. Especially on a tablet, I expect it to be more of a keyboardless laptop than a big phone, so I just couldn't get an iPad

> more capable
There's a time on life when you want things to just work, if I need something capable I will stick with my desktop. Sometimes I just want to relax and the ipad seems comfy, I don't even know what I would do with the ipen but seems like fun.

This is just useless to the point where it makes me mad. The two former posts at least had legacy value.

Modern UMPCs aren't useless, they're just going about it wrong. If either of those were a slider and didn't have the gamepad I'd buy the shit out of them

that looks really comfy

HTC Vive
I'd get maybe five hours worth of real entertainment out of it, but god damn do i want it

That's the thing though, iOS doesn't "just work" in a lot of real world applications.
The limitations of their silo-ing means a lot of stuff you would EXPECT to work otherwise doesn't.
You have to basically hope somebody has tailor-made an application to do exactly what you're looking for, and that it's approved on the app store.
iOS is way more smooth, but Android is infinitely more capable.

I'm actually thinking of getting this for a luddite relative who never learned how to keyboard.

The "place paper over digitizer, write on the paper, and your writing gets digitized" feature actually appeals to me.

I want one of these so bad... but I know that it would be terrible for my day to day use case.

>useless
that shit gets you laid.

I just love that retro design and 4:3 touchscreen.

Pepsi P1s, it doesn't work on my carrier but I sure want one

... that's a digitizer...
Holy shit, I thought it was a just a really low profile keyboard!
I might actually get one of these to replace my aging asus transformer...

The Wacom digitizer is the only appeal of the Yoga Book.

The keyboard is shit, you'll hit the wrong keys, it's permanently set in one layout, you probably can't swipe....

But dat digitizer tho.

I'd really like one of these audiophile turntables.
Or any audiophile gear, it's beautiful.
Which is pretty much the only reason I'd like to have it.
I don't really care all that much about the "hyper clear only selected ears can hear it" sound quality.

You should get an x62

>But dat digitizer tho.

Isn't it more comfortable to write directly on the screen like on all the other tablets?

>Pepsi P1s
Holy shit why is this a thing?

Used mine for like 4 hours maybe
Only other times it got used were when I brought it to parties (very fun on LSD)

But otherwise it's been sitting in the corner of my room for months

The tactile sensation of pen+paper is superior to plastic+glass.

Also, I think keeping the active digitizer (for styluses) and passive digitizer (for fingers) separate somehow reduces latency and increases accuracy, but I might just be pulling this out of my ass.

The changes to the Intel turbo boost in Skylake had a bigger impact on latency than anything else in the last 5 or so years.

Yeah, they probably make more profit from a single KFC bucket meal than from one of those phones.

This. It was a marketing stunt more than anything.

This one comes with only an Atom processor.

If you want a Skylake+Wacom device, I think that the Thinkpad Yoga 260 and 460 cost like twice as much as this.

>Atom™ x5-Z8550
>4GB LPDDR3
>64GB storage
It's a cool concept, but it's nothing more than a note-taking netbook.

If you're worried about the keyboard, buy a cheap bluetooth keyboard that you could use with it.

I already have a tablet and an e-reader, so this would be redundant.

But I keep thinking how awesome it would be to read journals and articles on the thing.

GB LPDDR3
GB storage
There is literally nothing wrong with this. It even has microSD support if 64GB isn't enough for you.

>have expendable income
>buy stupid shit all the time
>regret it

and fool and his money are easily parted...be glad you retards don't make money to fund your sick habit.

>that shit gets you laid.
maybe with your hand?

i would go w/ the pdp-10 since it's compatible w/ the incompatible timesharing system.

unix sum!

Nothing wrong with those specs, it's about equivalent to a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo.

If they made a new iPad Pro with MacOS instead of iOS (to replace the Air which I think is gone now) it'd be a wonderful idea

An elegant OS for a more civilized age

Or a quad G5.

the hardware is beautiful but the OS is lacking. it's not a PC replacement or a hybrid in the way a surface is.

Looks like a chinese knock off smartphone screen.

Pixel C

Far from useless, especially the G5.

Just do it my man, I've always had Android phones but eventually tried something different and got an iPad air when they first dropped, the fucker is still going just like the day I got it, couldn't be happier. To be fair I only use it in bed or on my couch for porn, TV, shopping etc

w2c senpai?

I already have a dual 450 tower, a TiBook and an iBook though. Its only useless in that i already have many computers like it.

They're only like $100 but its just a damn clock

That makes more sense

$100 for an ornament is nothing.

I'm semi-interested in the Windows version. Might pick one up second hand in a few months.

You're not all that wrong.

I wouldn't mind getting an iPad Pro to replace my old Note 10.1 2012 since it has a MUCH better stylus. I use my old tablet at a paper replacement but the stylus really is lacking compared to anything from the last year or so.

You're not wrong. I vastly prefer Android on the phone, but I hate the easy-bait fanboy vs fanboy threads about the two platforms. So I can acknowledge that for whatever reason, possibly the more stable target hardware, there are a lot more iOS apps with versions optimized for tablets than for Android, where most of the time you're just running the phone version of an app.

Though if I do get a tablet with a mobile OS, it'd still probably be Android, because I don't have any other Apple hardware, and for all the reasons I'd get such a tablet (ebook reader, web shit, movies and shows, and emulated games) I can't imagine caring.

Speaking of useless tech, I've been thinking about a tablet PC to replace my perfectly good laptop. What even is there aside from Surface Pro?

Getting Surface would be hilarious though since I'd install Linux on it anyways.

Not totally useless, with winter coming it'll make a nice room heater.

My dp PowerMac G5 keeps my room 3ºF warmer according to its rated BTU output while idle

for

I have a iPad Pro and a Surface 4 but I never use them. I just got the Surface day before yesterday but I basically set it up and that's it.

Is the Surface any good? Seems so awkward to use on the couch.

I usually just use my Macbook Pro.

Man, I want one.

Sony.

Last I checked it was $800.

ModBook Pro X
Kudos to the guys who make these but ultimately what's the fucking point

I only do email, google, phone, and text so it would be perfect for muh freedumbs

but apparently they don't work for that as reliably as a shitty andurroid phone running 2.1

i looked at getting a surface to install linux on it. it looked rather painful and a waste.

there is the surface book, i guess. hp spectre would have been awesome if it supported touch.

I wany a Yodaphone 2.

Unfortunately not available from my provider (softbank), and they can be dickish about using outside devices.

I used to want one of those things so badly, would probably have one right now had I not gotten hooked on keyboard phones

A yodaphone with a pre 3/priv style keyboard would be my dream device.

Surprisingly, iOS development is more fragmented and incompatible with other versions of itself than android. As a developer, you basically have to revisit even your simplest apps with every OS update. In Android, stuff just works for newer versions (apart from root required apps and such) because they got backwards compatibility figured out.

If it was like the Q10 on the LCD side and the back had a full eink display like the actual Yotaphone 2 is I'd buy the shit out of it.

To be honest, I'd consider a phone with just e-ink if the refresh was fast enough.

I don't watch videos or anything on my phone. I just use it for communication.

I actually bought an e-ink remote control recently. It is pretty awesome.

Chucked 3 of those in the rubbish not long ago sorry user

I might buy a Windows 10 one too. OneNote will work great with this. Once Edge matures a little bit along with more devs picking up UWP, it'll be nice.

One note on a Surface Pro is a dream.

All my handwritten notes nice and organized and accessible from anywhere.

that would drive me insane at night. so fucking bright

This is A E S T H E T I C as fuck, I don't see it being practical but damn

Fuck I want a Curta, but I just can't justify dropping nearly a grand on what amounts to a curiosity.

But I want one.

We have one of these at work, and god is it useless for anyone but 3D modellers, but the experience of just using it is surreal.

Why? Why do you want that?

Why would you not? It's fucking awesome.

Damn that looks nice, and a good substitute for notebooks. And it's not even that expensive. Still hope some chink company will make a copy of this shit for half the price.

For reasons I can't quite put my finger on I've been wanting to buy a fingerbox. Saw a nice mahogany one in an antique store yesterday and almost bit the bullet and got it.

Similar to pic related but obviously mahogany wood instead. Same edges and everything, and no edgy artwork.

...

This reminds me of wanting a news website in a classic newspaper format optimized for e-readers.

nice, how much would it have cost?

>Curta
mmmmm, the sound it makes doing math (turning the grinder). It's wonderful.

I tried to buy one but nobody would ship it to France ...

I fell for the thinkpad meme 4 years ago and regret nothing, best laptop I've ever had

I naturally have Cred Forums instincts, even before I even found Cred Forums I had
>duel monitors (CRTs)
>pro CRT
>sPVA LCD
>Model M keyboard
>Microsoft optical mouse, Logitech G400
>Only used second hand business class laptops with clit mouse

Oops wrong thread

I want the big Sony e-ink reader I suppose.
And a big collection of old computers.

I want a Panasonic RZ-4

>finds a rare fingerbox
>doesnt immediately buy it
people like you drive me up the fucking wall, seriously.

Pic related is fresh pic of the last one i got.
Absolute mint condition, probably owned by some collector. The hole even has the factory-new edges, not rounded by use.

Almost fell for it but google saved me.

How the fuck is that useless?

Google stopped giving a shit about tablets a very long time ago (even fucking Touchwiz has a better tablet UI than stock). Andromeda only confirms this.

=)

>being this new

i want a fleshligt

You weren't alive when it was cool

So tell me this Cred Forums

I have the following:
6600K @ 4.7Ghz
16GB of memory
GTX 970 -> Connected to 2 monitors @ 1080p60.

It used to be that playing games on a single monitor with the second monitor active would cost a couple of FPS at top quality settings.

So what I'm wondering is, given I game on 1 monitor only, and browse/netflix/whatever on the second monitor, would I be better off running the secondary monitor off of my iGPU?

I know that just running a secondary monitor uses fuck all GPU power, but I question given Firefox et all use graphical acceleration now days, whether this could be hurting performance slightly.

Enjoy your literal computer porn.

4chanx fucked me again -_- Bastardo.
