I've always wondered how internet would look like if the government didn't back the fuck off from it in the '90.
The infrastructure would probably be more distributed by now, things like "hate speech" wouldn't be such an issue, and we would have an actual public internet. Also probably less piracy, more government spying (sanctioned and regulated like with cell phones, though. Also less private spying google style). Maybe it'd be less monopolized by giants like facebook or google if taxing policies didn't favored them as much. I wonder about porn.

How is it impractical? It's a fucking messaging protocol, you type messages into it and it sends it to other people just like Skype, Discord, Slack, or whatever bloated piece of shit you stupid faggots use today. On top of that, writing bots for it is a hell of a lot easier than with any other messaging service. There's also an IRC client for literally any platform. I could pull my old DS Lite out right now and log in to my regular channels and start chatting right now without a single issue for fuck's sake. Try doing that with any of your fucking web messaging services kek. Just because something isn't shiny, flashy, and bloated to all hell doesn't mean it's impractical dumbass.
