>'oh i'll have this massive salary, imagine having to life with ', where the sum just so happened to be exactly what i was earning (and it wasn't that round of a number)'

Anyone else get shit like this?

>IT is not gonna last for long
They clearly have no clue

This lol, with increasing amounts of stuff being automated IT is only getting bigger.

I work as an economist and even I'm expected to learn how to program.

Learning to write code doesn't imply that your job is IT.

Usually they know that I'm brutally honest and tone down this talk. I had people that are still studying psychology telling me the same thing; my response to them is usually that they should be really start to work and study double if they really wanna make it. 99% of the people in uni aim high user, it's only natural you will get this kind of talk. 10% of them will be actually have the salary they wish, and sometimes it's thanks to friends and family grants.

>muh secret club

>flooded by new people
I wish. Then perhaps I could not spend 3 months employing 4 developers and focus on coding. Fuck

>>'oh man, i couldn't do that, sitting like that in front of a screen all day'
this is kinda what's bugging me too, halfway into my degree I'm starting to feel put off by the prospect of doing that.

That's not even what he's implying.

Programming and IT are two entirely different fields. It's like railroad designer vs train engineer.

>IT is not gonna last for long
It'll last as long as people keep being retarded when it comes to computers, which at this point seems like it's only becoming a bigger problem.

>It's gonna get flooded by new people
Maybe, but so far while it has grown it's only needed more and more people, so this probably won't be an issue for a long time.

>It's just a fad, it'll die down
See first rebuttal

>Oh man, I couldn't do that, sitting like that in front of a screen all day
If you can, who cares? It's what you wanted to do. Different strokes, etc.

As for the others:

>I'll be moving among people
See previous rebuttal
>I'll have this massive salary
They might think they will, but I doubt it.

>Imagine having to live on X-amount
As long as you're good at what you do, you can climb to higher levels of IT where things get more specialized very easily since you get a sort of pyramid effect. Tons of people know basic troubleshooting, less but still quite a lot know basic networking shit, but from there you get to more and more esoteric systems with fewer people and more demand, and those positions make tons (easily 6 figures). Plus if the salary is enough to live comfortably for you, who gives a shit?

They say this shit because they're jealous, and possibly even intimidated of their own lack of future.

>'IT is not gonna last for long'
>'it's gonna get flooded by new people'
>'it's just a fad, it'll die down'
Ignorance, that's like someone in the 60's saying that a programmer is a "fad" or not gonna last.

>'oh man, i couldn't do that, sitting like that in front of a screen all day'
I'd rather sit in front of a screen and use my mind, as opposed to doing a physical job that will destroy my body in 20 years.
I'd also rather interact with a computer than kiss ass all day in some sort of "moving among people" job.

>'oh i'll have this massive salary, imagine having to life with ', where the sum just so happened to be exactly what i was earning (and it wasn't that round of a number)'

Why do you tell people (other than close friends) what you make? Try not to let it get to you man, people in college tell themselves all kinds of shit so they can justify the massive cost of college to themselves.
When I see them working at a job that pays a big check, that's when I'd actually care about what they say. (Hint: most of them will go back to working $15-$20/hr jobs).

If you're in your 20's and making $40-60k, you're doing well for yourself.

Anyone who calls it "IT" is going nowhere in the field.

>'oh man, i couldn't do that, sitting like that in front of a screen all day'
I quit my programming job because of this. I was literally doing nothing but sitting behind my desk for the entire day, doing what I was told to do.
God that shit sucked the life out of me.

>'oh i'll have this massive salary, imagine having to life with ', where the sum just so happened to be exactly what i was earning (and it wasn't that round of a number)'
They won't and it won't matter because this is such a shit argument. I'm a courier right now and frankly I don't give a fuck about my shit pay because I get to drive around in a fancy truck all day.

I want this to be true, I would love to be a trucker or a courier like you listening to audiobooks while the sights are passing me by but I'm to beta to change my life like that, yet

Can you talk more about how you did it how you find it now

>>'good thing about my career is that i'll be moving among people, imagine having to sit in front of a screen for 8 hours'
corporate software development means 50% of your time will be spent in various meetings
quiet days of nothing but programming are rare as fuck, my man

that and business trips, team events, extra training, interesting dev conferences are all a regular part of the life

OP, these people have absolutely no fucking clue

IT is the most blue collar of white collar jobs. We're just drones who they use like slaves and nobody even appreciates or understands how vital we are to the whole flow.

When you move up and make ~200k a year and your friends are still making between 30 and 60k remind them of what they said, with a big smile on your face.

>I'm to beta to change my life like that
Do you have any dependents?

If not, there's literally nothing preventing you from doing something like that. Take the leap.

Imagine yourself 15 or 20 years from now, with a wife and kids, looking back and knowing that you had the chance to live the life you wanted, but didn't take it because you were scared.

in addition to this, you'll constantly be meeting and working with new people
a new project usually implies a completely different team

it's really easy to get a ton of good business connections

>'oh i'll have this massive salary, imagine having to life with ', where the sum just so happened to be exactly what i was earning (and it wasn't that round of a number)'

Yeah this part really gets me. There are barely any careers in general that have the potential to make 150-200k a year. His friends are talking out of their asses.

>IT

Jesus, I feel sorry for you. Going to uni to end up as tech support. Couldn't you make it as a programmer? Did you do an internship?

8 hours in front of a screen pass by like a flash
especially when you're trying to figure out something really difficult

if you don't like that kind of thing, this isn't for you

or just shitpost on Cred Forums for 7h 30m

I get kind of the opposite.

>work warehouse job
>shit job, shit hours, shit commute, but pays $31/hr. Full benefits, profit sharing check etc
>friends always busting my balls
>"you're gonna work there?! What a waste"
>23 years old, new car all paid up. Will have a house paid off before I'm 35.
>friends still coasting entirely on mommy and daddy's dime

I have a 2 year associates degree in Network Administration. Going to pursue a bachelor's in NetSEC. Figure Fuck it, my job pays for it anyway. My one friend still talks down to me about the entire job. Meanwhile he went to school for "game design". Hasn't made single thing. Not even a character model. Yet has the audacity to say "your job is dead end and you're wasting your life", all while doing nothing but playing games and drinking for 14 hours a day.

Fuck you Mike. Sit in your dad's basement playing CS:GO all day. I'm sure those job opportunities will be kicking down your door any day now.

>How you did it
I just did really, people would say OMG WHY WOULD YOU THROW AWAY YOUR EDUCATION HURR DURR but that's one fucking thing you should never pay attention to. Just go and look for courier companies and job listing websites and search for shit. If you don't have a trucker's license, you can still look for the courier jobs that use delivery vans or shit. If it suits you, you can always go and get a trucker's license afterward. Some companies even offer such training so you can stay with the same employer. It's just a matter of going for it.

>How I find it now
I still like it. I deliver larger goods and parcels, and some of the clients I deliver to are nice enough to offer me a coffee while I'm unloading their stuff.

As for programming, I still do that too in my spare time. Programming as a job these days is shit though, you're better off going full sysadmin because then you get to do fuck all during the day.

Yes, my parrents need some support financially as my father can't work but I don't think that would be too much of a problem cause I saved quite a lot of money living as I do. It wouldn't be anything new in my family either - I have a Port Engineer cousin who is a trucker now. Mother would be broken thinking I'm "toiling" and throwing away my education.

This. I've often done 60 hour weeks that passed in the blink of an eye.

That's because until you get to the network design tier, we're basically server/router/switch mechanics.
I'm not downplaying the importance of IT, but the job itself is in the same vein as electricians and plumbers.

The difference is that IT, once you get beyond the tier 1 helpdesk, requires a relatively large amount of knowledge and problem solving skills.

>We're just drones who they use like slaves and nobody even appreciates or understands
Tbh it sounds like you have a shit workplace. In all the places I've worked IT, we've been appreciated because people see how fast shit stops once the network goes down.

Funny enough, IT is one of the careers where the potential is there to make $150k+.
It won't happen for 95% of us, but the potential is there.

No, because I'm not a dumbass who works in IT

>green text
>quotes
back to plebbit, fool

>I'd rather sit in front of a screen and use my mind, as opposed to doing a physical job that will destroy my body in 20 years.
To be fair, by sitting down for long periods of time isn't doing your body any favors either.

It's still not healthy just in a different way. I do agree though, fuck physical work.

With 20 years in IT, I can tell you..
> Automation is the future. From both a cost and consistency perspective.
> Some days you spend 8 - 12 hours in front of your computer, others you're hardly ever at your desk
> You're replaceable for someone who will do what you do for less or has more experience.

That said, I do the automation, and make enough. I also get to work from home on this project. Can't lie, it kind of sucks.

In the US you don't make terrible money as a truck driver. $40k, and a lot of your expenses are negligible because you're driving on the company's dime. That's enough to send some money home.

I'd sit down with mom and explain to her that you're unhappy with your current situation, and need a different experience.
She's probably genuinely worried you're wasting your time. Also, education shouldn't be just a peice of paper to get a job, it's a time for personal growth and development.

Yeah, I try to hit the gym every day and run at least a mile, if not two.

My uncle is an escalator/elevator mechanic, and he has serious back and knee problems. I've also met a decent amount of jet mechanics (USAF) who've seen their necks, backs, and knees destroyed over the years.

Whhhhat the fuck?

These negative cuks sound like the typical art major. I've only gotten this remark once "don't you get tired of being on the screen so much? Don't you get tired of being stressed?". I just repeat the following everytime, no fucken are given.

> be 22
> be talented in IT
> making 35/hr as IT manager
> screen time is over 12/hrs daily. PERIOD.
> screen time is optional but so success faggot.
> can afford home-wife, baby and other expensive shit
> own two new cars, living in the hills of SoCal, left the ghettos
> I walk around like a fucken boss because I'm in high demand bitch.

>tfw DoD job so no 4chinz at work
Plebbit is allowed, however.

Hey, smart people! Can someone here crack my wpa2 handshake? I'm hopeless..

There's plenty of resources, do it yourself or you'll never learn.

My resources are heavily limited, I'm going to continue to learn but I need a connection soon, the situation is complicated..

part 2

most of these cuks that give or tried giving me advice are fucken run-down well-on-their-way to being dead beats faggots. Making nothing of themselves and still living with mommy and daddy after the age 18.

Stick your dick into the mouth of every high paying technology until you make that bitch cum.

God tier careers are in IT. PERIOD. We invented this shit, we evolved humanity with the same skillset you and I hold today. We are every single humanitarian evolution wrapped up into one large burrito and you know who eats that shit? THE IT GUYS.

- Just wanted to make sure you get your facts straight the next time a cuk tries downplaying anything IT.

Yeah, the "six figure psych majors" tend to shut up once they see you living comfortably, while they're working at starbucks looking for an actual job.

>google

With all due respect, I asked for help, not for instructions. I'm not stupid, it's just that I don't have time to learn right now. I tried aircrack and crunch, i don't have the bandwidth to dl the correct drivers for oclhashcat.

Exactly.

It's become a hobby to catch a gimps of every employee's face at stores. I find about 1 a week now and I'm sure it will progress as I get older.

> feelsgood.jpg

>We are every single humanitarian evolution wrapped up into one large burrito and you know who eats that shit? THE IT GUYS.

>IT Manager
You know what I hate more than sitting behind a screen all day? IT managers. Mostly because instead of actually managing shit that we need, you dick around pretending to be a senior programmer when you really know jack shit. Please fuck off out of my software repository, please fuck off out of my code, and the next time I have to do overwork because of your incompetence I'm dragging you with me to the office and I'll staple your dick to the fucking desk.

>write code
I believe this captcha was generated specifically for you friend.

>still living with mommy and daddy after the age 18.
Is this bad now? Why do Americans hate their parents so much?

Round here all I get is
>oh so you'll have no trouble getting a job
>must feel good being in demand
>it's like the only field that's not declining
People shouldn't be so negative all the time.

>Do IT
>people tell me I'll be a worthless coding monkey, pajeets taking over the sector
>kinda agree so look at options
>do a Masters in Cyber Security
>hired on €48k during my thesis
>friends in business courses back peddle and become humble
>mfw they're on €28k doing god awful paperwork in a shitty accounting firm
>can't look me in the eye after shit talking me

Do you fuck their wives and gfs, too ?

Used to be in America you turn 18, become and adult, get a job and move out. Unfortunately now that's basically impossible because the only jobs an 18 year old can get pay poverty-tier wages, so most people live with their parents well into their 20s, this hasn't stopped that from being associated with being a poor fuckup though, so people use it as an insult.

nope, me and my team go for hookers and blow every 2 weeks as part of our "team building exercises"

>somewhat jealous

any big IT firm does shit like this.
My mate in AOL went out his first week on a team building exercise with guys from an overseas office.

ended up drinking whiskey costing $100 a glass, booked 2 hotel rooms then called up few escorts. And all went on the companies expenses credit card.

They just took the bill, folded so the details are hidden and only the total amount spend shown. Booked it and wrote a comment "team building"

Start smoking, really.
>take fresh air (and optionally a drink) for a couple minutes once or twice an hour
>you can even go for a short walk

kek
Yea I go for short walks sometimes, don't smoke but it really should be a normal thing imo. Much better for your health and focus if you just leave your place every 2 hours.

I do walking laps of the campus, looking at the heroin junkies, drinking coke taking deep breathes.
> feels good

I have a computing degree but it's not enough to get to the interview stage in my area.

I just want a simple technician or data entry job so I have some feeling of self-worth.

Are certs worth the bother? The price of them concerns me. I keep reading conflicting reports about them.

Certs are conflicting. Anyone can get them. Everyone has them. And most are useless. Like Cisco ones are worthless, but Microsoft ones are good. Depends on what area you want to go and the certs they have

>Like Cisco ones are worthless, but Microsoft ones are good
I've heard it the other way around, so be careful taking anything here as golden

I knew asking here was a mistake. Kek.

What was degree in ? Do you have networking / programming experience ?
Do the college recommend a masters ?

If you want to live instead of just breathing and eating you have these options:

- Become a manager where you work.
- Figure out a way to get rich with a simple project like a fart button app.
- Get out of IT.

These areas are all hell:

- Commercial programming.
- Gamedev.
- Support.
- Infrastructure.

Given the odds you'll probably land in one or more jobs where two thirds of what you learned in school doesn't apply. Even if it did it's too risky to change the product or it will take too much time (read: money) to implement or your boss simply doesn't see the point of it and yells that you have to deliver on time.

After a certain point you just feel like your job is not that different from that of a plumber, except working as a plumber is way less stressful.

It will last, but it will last because there's no other way around it. Just like you either do it yourself or you hire a plumber to fix your shit. It must be done.

Computer graphics.

I have some Java and C experience but it bores the fuck out of me. I couldn't see myself being a competent enough programmer to compete with poos.

>- Commercial programming.
>- Infrastructure.
can confirm that these are both fairly easy and interesting, also pay pretty well

if you master these areas there's nothing stopping you from making your own modern and successful business

>Anyone else get shit like this?
No, especially since I now live abroad and I am already making 70k€/y, one year after graduation.
Only drawback is that working in IT can be stressful, but top pay, light hours and being in high demand? Hell yeah

where are you from eu-bro

what do you do, friend?

Moved to Germoney, cost of life is pretty decent too

>warehouse
Did this for a year. The money I saved up bought me almost two years of free time in my home country. Used a portion to pay for network school. Future looks good but my friends that have been in uni for years without graduating talk down to me. These people have never made a single dollar in their lives. Fucking pussies I swear I'm going to cut those assholes off. Everybody seems to think they can live cushy lives without getting their hands dirty.

>psychology
With the way so many people socialize through a computer screen instead of face to face, we're probably going to have a lot of people with social problems in the future.

We're going to need psychologists.

Most people I know are majoring in underwater basket weaving with a minor in women's studies so when I tell them I'm majoring in CS/math they're just like "oh"

Then again I'm a little bit older(26) so that's where most of the shit talking is directed.

>Germany
Warum denn?
the political and societal situation there is absolutely horrible

I hope to move to Switzerland myself one day

>Switz
they dont let the likes of you in, user. Sorry.

>tfw making $17 an hour when I'm still a junior in college doing ez desktop support

Can't wait to become a Linux admin and not do shit.

I bet Mike is shit at CSGO too.

is that why they post job offers on my country's websites?

It pains my heart that despite my degree I can't find a job in my field that pays better than being a service industry slave(waiter)

Let me rephrase:
They let some of your less pleb countrymen in. Just not YOU specifically. Sorry for not clarifying.

>which at this point seems like it's only becoming a bigger problem.
Computer illiterates are going to blow up. The offspring of all the people that grew up in the 70s, 80s and 90s are entering the workforce. They had no reason to learn how to do anything on a computer because when it broke they whined to their parents until they fixed it. Shit is going to get bad, really bad.

Plus computers are much easier to use now, you just poke on the colorful squares

you overestimate how many people they can choose from

languages barriers are a serious obstacle to 99% of the specialists they're looking for
and I just happen to be part of the 1% that doesn't face this problem

in addition, I recall reading a story about a simple, completely average carpenter from my country who successfully emigrated to Switzerland

your argument is invalid

I suppose it depends on whether you're dealing with the general public

How many hours do you work a week? Because if you don't have time for your family, or to enjoy all the nice shit your job buys, then what's the fucking point?

>not being at the point where the act of programming itself gives you endless fulfillment and satisfaction

seek enlightenment

nowadays most IT positions require rudimentary programming knowledge

this doesnt mean IT == CS .... We're talking enough SQL to modify an RDL, enough JS to troubleshoot the corporate web portal, that sorta shit.
