On a scale of 1 (tinfoil retard) to 10 (productive member of society), how comfortable are you with Google reading all of your e-mails?

10. anything that is a matter of upmost security I discuss in person

6. At the moment they don't seem to be doing anything particularly uncouth with that data (besides the NSA thing but I can't blame Google for the police state), but the slippery slope argument exists for a damn good reason, and this is an example of it.

7

I trust Google more than Microsoft or Yahoo.
But I've started to use my own .eu domain anyway. Fug American spying.

Why use Google Mail when you can just host your own e-mail server?
The Internet was originally envisioned as a decentralized network, after all.

All of the ones on my gmail account or literally all of them?
6 and 2 respectively.

9 - even though I refuse to use their service, I know many people do and that directly effects me. But I learned at the early internet that you don't put in an email what you wouldn't put on a postcard.

Not really that bothered since email isn't exactly the most secure thing in the first place.

9, because I use Yandex for anything I don't want Jewgle to see

how come google records all versions of e-mails sent by me? I mean not only sent message but also all its variants during editation

its creepy as hell because I use thunderbird imaps

Botnet

What is it you're afraid of? More precise targeted marketing?

Unless you cover your body, your computer, and your phone with Stallman grade tinfoil, your ''''privacy'''' has already been well compromised.

>tfw too intelligent to own a """smart""" phone
>tfw too intelligent to carry any kind of cell phone
>tfw too intelligent to use non-free software
>tfw too intelligent to not encrypt all drives
>tfw too intelligent to accept incoming mail that is not PGP encrypted
>tfw too intelligent to use hardware without LibreBoot support

How's living in mother's basement going for you?

>tfw too intelligent to waste money on rent

9. It's a public email service and email is not and was not meant to be secure to any degree. At the same time it's a bit disconcerting that my emails are being analyzed to generate ads I block anyway.

Email isn't secure so even hosting your own server means that instead of both Google and NSA having access, only NSA will read mail in transit. You can of course use gpg but no one else does, and it does not prevent metadata collection. You need some sort of darknet chat protocol if you want true security and privacy.

>some sort of darknet chat protocol
ricochet.im/

It's easier to use than Skype

I just wanted to avoid pointless bickering by giving an example.
> Only retards use X, Y ftw

10. I'm not retarded, I don't mind a computer reading my email and giving me suggestions which are overall beneficial to me. Moreover, for some reason, I trust Google a lot and I like them and what they do.

You're a window licking retard if you have any sensitive or illegal information on your gmail account. Any public email server for that matter. Anything you wish to be kept private should be done on your own server or in person.

>too intelligent

>I am a fucking idiot

Whom are you quoting?

4, but it's the email I've had since forever and changing email for all the other services would be a pin in the ass.

5, if i ever feel like it gets more extreme i'll switch to something private

Is just trany porn So who cares, good for them they have something diferent to look at

>productive member of society
You mean "sheep".
9/10 desu. Unless it's really private I don't care. Nobody uses gmail for anything serious/private/illegal/company or government related.

10

Tend to trust Jewgle more than other internet companies. That could easily change though.

Never use it for important stuff though.

Like 1 billion people use google mail. It's not like they read my emails and i dont have anything to hide. I have 2fa on google so 10

Gmail doesn't read your emails. The ad service scans your email for keywords then displays relevant content. It is entirely robotic.

1

>Nobody uses gmail for anything serious/private/illegal/company or government related

You underestimate the propensity for data leakage by normies.

you guys are all fine with this until you are being persecuted for shit you had on your email 10 years ago

enjoy losing your freedom of speech

2

>this is considered an argument

10.
It's not like the you ess gubbermint can't read any email you send anyways and I don't care if the advertisements I block are tailored to me.

>living in USA

>tfw you don't like the US but you really like being able to shoot any coons, spics, slavs, hoodrats, druggies, or Mudslimes that give you shit
Why are there no free as in freedom countries in the world? How is that not a thing?

Looks like he's quoting you.

not at all, but not playing into your discussion that was one-sided from the start.

8 to 10, I don't give a shit if google tells the FBI that I spend my time playing katawa shoujo and other vns

10. Don't give shit. I have my mail for no other reason than work, and even then I have my own Outlook Office mail at work as well. Who even uses mail for anything other than confirmation codes and formal shit like work applications, wanting to rent a flat or whatever?

I feel much safer knowing that Google is reading my emails than worrying about misconfiguring my private email server and letting chinese hackers to read my email instead

10. All emails discussing private matters related to patient information is encrypted with PGP.

10 if they wouldn't keep locking me out of my accounts for suspicious activity.

They won't let me keep using them so I had to switch over to hotmail, at least they won't lock me out of my account (so far).

>freedom to switch to any service xe wants
>picks the second most botnet for no reason

This. I don't discuss anything important over the phone or through the internet, unless it's intranet.

10

what i use email for is extremely limited

I'm fine-ish with computers reading it, less fine with people directly reading it.

I work in the private sector with security clearance and we still use Gmail and Google Drive to occasionally send secret/top-secret docs. The running gag is Google is more secure than the government, which is pretty true. Google hasn't gotten hacked yet and leaked my SSN, fingerprints, etc. to the Chinese.

>using email for sensitive content

yeah no

4

5

Used to be down in tinfoil range but at this point
>10
Nothing sent over email can be regarded as secure anymore, no matter what lengths you go to. So doing trivial daily business out of your gmail account is just as good as anything else. If google sells all that to marketers I really don't care. I don't do consumerism anyway so good luck selling me anything.

>effort
nah

I just use it for sign-ups, nothing confidential. I wish I had the time to maintain my own mail server though

You'll be raped to death by vibrancy before that becomes an issue.
