Alright guys, why is the new owner such a fucking kike?
m00t created the Cred Forums pass not for monetization purposes, but so that he could give something back to the community for those that wanted to donate money.
It used to be that it lasted forever, too, to the best of my knowledge.
Next thing you'll know, he'll start selling user data for jew goldz and letting political parties pay him for the right to shill on the website, just like he did with 2ch.

So I've been looking at earplugs and I've seen a lot of these things where they're advertised as "noise reducers" where they just lower Db with loud things like music but keep conversations repetitively similar to normal. Are they legitimate? If so, does anyone know what the best ones are?

Not sure if this belongs here but I didn't want to start a thread for this so fuck it. I've had malware twice in the past week and I suspect it's because of Hola. Because the extension got corrupt both times I ran JRT (and the malware stopped). I only use it max 5min per day, so I wasn't worried about the other issues surrounding the add-on. Any suggestions on what do to? Worst case scenario I'm gonna have to deal with it. Other proxy add-ons don't seem as simple (and useful).
Joshua Allen
Adwcleaner then Malwarebytes.
You installed adware, that should fix it. Hola is literal botnet in all the meaning of the word btw.
Gavin Nguyen
You have 3 choices: Doing actual legitimate work. Take jobs on freelance sites and do reasonably good work on them. Not making a lot of money. Do those shitty surveys and offers and installing adware they'll pay you pissant amounts for. Taking a significant risk. Do illegal things like selling drugs or cybercrime.
Caleb Nguyen
I also forgot to add but I started looking at some phones and I saw the galaxe A5s not sure if that one is any good
Chase Clark
I ran all those both times and only JRT (found and) removed the actual files.
I know about that, but since I only ran it a few min a day, I wasn't too worried about it. I'm mostly just wondering if there are any other free good alternatives or if I'm gonna have to download, use it for 5min and then delete it.
Camden Wright

A few ideas: 7zip the files, them copy the archive over. Use NTFS for the destination drive, and don't put your folders into folders with longer paths than they're coming from. FAT32 sucks. Rename the files. Use Linux to move them, it doesn't suffer from the same short name length limits, even when operating on NTFS. You'll probably need to use Linux to read them back too.

So here's my question, for the smartphone (since there is no smartphone general right now). I have added along with music a french audio course, but even if not in the music folder it was picked up anyway, which means that if I shuffle the music it will start to appear, how do I avoid that?
From the start menu search, write "start" and you will see the option "start settings", change those. Or manually click on all of those and either uninstall them or tell it to not show them in the menu.
Josiah Hernandez
why would I not just keybind everything or use a windows equivalent to dmenu? having all the folders ruins the whole aesthetic of the start menu
Landon King
Find a music player app that lets you choose what to shuffle, instead of blindly shuffling everything on the phone. Either do it by folder, or put everything else into a massive playlist you shuffle.
Ayden Myers
Does chronium have that insane session save interval? I seriously don't want to destroy my ssd but I'm getting tired of Firefox (already edited the registry file).

Juan Butler
How do i bypass/download file from uptobox or whatever it is that needed to be a premium user for download it?
Mason Myers
This IS the menu with everything in it. You can keybind the ones you use most, but you still have a (sadly not really hierarchical) menu to browse the rest. Or start typing the name of a thing and it will search.
Or if you want a more useful menu, check out Classic Shell. (Only install the start menu portion of it.)
Jace James
that's it.
Justin Carter
o wait, nevermind, I can indeed tell it which folders not to scan, I guess I will have to install another player though just for these, which bugs me because being a phone it means another app that just wont stay shut and that will require updates.

Modern laptop CPUs are aiming to keep within temperature and power targets, the speed will jump around as required. 2.3 is what intel says it'll do all the time even if you give it a hard sustained load with cooling that barely meets their recommendations, it's allowed to go up to 2.8 for short periods of time if it's not too warm.
For running fallout 4, what's your GPU? That's much more important.

I'm going to school for infosec & computer forensics. We use a lot of virtual machines. I have about $900 in extra money I didn't expect to have for "school related expenses" which I plan on putting toward a new desktop for school.
From what I understand, virtual machines benefit most from processing power and RAM. What else should I look for in a build? I've put together a few builds on pcpartpicker but including a 1060 I'm at about $1050 without a SSD but with a monitor (I'd like two, I have zero). Any build suggestions?
Related, I've been taking notes by hand in class during lectures. Half the students have laptops. While I have a laptop it is not portable at all (Asus g75vw). Should I ditch the desktop idea and invest in a laptop? I kind of like writing notes but my shorthand fucking sucks.

I have a small issue with my pc.
It doesn't want start if its been used shortly before shut down. This makes sleep mode unusable and its not possible to change some of the bios settings as the pc wont reboot after the changes. Only way to start the pc is to do a cold start. Also when I get it running, it runs just fine.

Considering the built-in DVD Mount option in Windows 10, is there any reason to download Alcolhol 120%, PowerISO, DaemonTools and the like? Has it become obsolete?
Aaron Price
Actually, you're better off on Black Friday. There is a common misconception about Cyber Monday; Don't let the word "cyber" fool you. The "cyber monday" name comes from online shopping, and mostly clothing. Ofcourse there could be some discounts in the hardware departments too, but don't skip black friday because of cyber monday, because Black Friday is where it's at.
Landon Martinez
First, you should decide if you want a desktop or a laptop. Make a pro/con list. Talk to upperclassmen.
>What else should I look for in a build? There are certain features some CPU's have that can be beneficial for virtualization. One I know is VT-d, which basically allows a virtual machine to more directly access a CPU's resources. I also know these features are offered only on non-K CPU's (CPU's that cannot overclock). You didn't mention gaming, so I'm going to assume you don't do any, in which case you don't need a dedicated GPU. Depending on how many you have, virtual machines can take up lots of disk space, but definitely talk to your professors and other students to get a better idea. Also consider buying a monitor used or at least refurbished, to save some money.
tl;dr ask your professor
Carson Campbell

>First, you should decide if you want a desktop or a laptop. Make a pro/con list. Talk to upperclassmen I'll chat one up tomorrow when I go in but I'm leaning toward desktop as I will be doing some courses from home and the IT lab computers are actually pretty powerful.
>VT-d I'm unfamiliar but I will look into this, it will be the first feature I've seen that non-K CPUs have over overclockable CPUs.
>gaming I am a pretty light gamer especially since I've started going back to school. That said I do like games though, 60 fps in DayZ would be nice.
>virtual machines can take up lots of disk space I brought this up with my professor and he suggested a minimum of 16gb of RAM, 32gb would be optimal. With that said does speed of RAM come into effect at all or is it just snake oil? RAM can be overclocked too, why not just do that?
I'll definitely check out refurbished monitors. 1 is certainly not enough.

Not him, but about the RAM, as far as capacity goes, you just need "enough". For speed, I have noticed a difference when upgrading from slow RAM (666MHz at the time) to fast RAM (1333MHz at the time). Now I have 16GB@2000MHz and it's more than enough for my use (occasional VirtualBox session, games and a TS3 and CSGO server).

>I'm assuming this is a desktop? yes it is a desktop >What do you mean by "it's been used shortly before shutdown"? How long before, and what kind of tasks? what I meant was that if I power down the pc after doing something that puts load on the system and try to power it up again it wont start. Nothing happens. This also happens if I try to wake the system from sleep mode. This does not happen if I let it be for awhile and then power up. >What OS do you have? no wait, you have to do "Add to archive..." both times, select "Best" compression and make a new name. Or else I think you're simply adding the file to the existing archive. Not 100% tho.
Matthew Brown
No because the files are already compressed, the re-zipped files would probably be larger in size because of any metadata associated with the new zip.

I've tried this one. It works pretty well. But I was hoping for something a little more FOSS, or at least available on F-Droid.
Benjamin Long
Seems fine, at that price point you could go for a better cooler for better overclock potential AS 5 also isn't the top paste, maybe use gelid gc-extreme or prolimatech pk-3
Ian King
There usually is a "include search in contents of files" option for search stuff on operating systems. Look for something like that? I don't know tho
Thomas Cooper
Are they are runny? AS5 has always been my go-to because it works and it's easy, but if there's something that works better and is as easy, sure, lets do that.
Tyler Watson
They're both pretty paste-y and supposed to not be electrically conductive

For work related reasons I had to get a computer with a legit copy of windows 7. The only version available to me was professional, which I figured wouldn't be a problem.
I have one issue though. Due to work (and personal preference, really) my windows is in German. However, some programs I prefer to use in English, but apparently due to not having those language packs available for installation (because windows 7 professional doesn't have that), some of those programs will pull lots of stuff from windows and will not be fully in English. Atleast that's what I figure the problem is, based on some programs I've installed, such as CDisplayEX. correct me if I'm wrong please.
What's an easy method to fix this? I saw that there's a program around that lets you install language packs called Vistalizator, but people warn that it's against windows EULA and I don't know what there is to that. What's my best course of action here? It's not 100% urgent, so if there's no fix I'll take it, but it is pretty annoying.

yesterday i tried rooting my Nexus 5X
unlocking the bootloader worked but now im stuck at pic related
everything is going alright until i get to 4. - there it doesnt say "Android Device"" but "MTB USB Device" (or something like that)
when i click on it the things on step 5. dont appear at all
when i click "OK" it tells me shit didnt work and gives me that same window again
am i fucked?
Landon Cruz
>windows 7 professional doesn't have that Pretty sure you're wrong
Andrew Ortiz
pretty sure you're right
Logan Perry
install gnu/linux, you will have no problems with shitty android drivers
Andrew Kelly
well maybe I should clarify, I do have the option to reinstall in English but I want and need my OS to be in German.
If you're right however, how do I install an english language pack? When I go to the microsoft windows page for it, it says you get it through windows update, but windows update on w7 professional doesn't seem to install language packs.
Sebastian Richardson
also if it just leave it unlocked are there some downsides to that?
i didnt have warranty anyways so thats not a problem

I've been scratching my head for fucking hours on this one. Whenever I copy a folder from a HFS drive to an exFat drive, it gains usually 30% of its original size. All the original files are the same size though, something I can't see, ls -a be damned, is taking up a tonne of space. rsync, cp, even standard finder copy pulls this shit. A folder that was originally 16GB is now talking up 220GB. It's full of smaller folders, so I think that may have something to do with it. I've done this on folders I know do not have sparse files in them, so I'm clueless. Pic related. All the same folder.
Ayden Adams
Also, copying back to HFS shrinks the files again.
Dylan Turner
It should be under optional installs.
Dylan Gutierrez
Now I've tried virgin files. I am fucking confused.

There isn't currently a smartphone general, I'll try my luck here.
I bought a Huawei P9 Lite and I love it, but I don't think I'm getting as much as I can out of the camera right now. This is a picture I took at the weekend and I feel like it looks like there's a coat of Vaseline on the lens. Am I being picky or does it look that way? Are there any recommendations you could make for better pictures?
Samuel Cox
Optional windows updates in the control panel, is that what you mean? I checked those and there's nothing language related among them.

Are there any powerbanks or other solutions to charge an Acer C720 without a power outlet?

Literally an empty folder in an empty folder. 1.8 fucking megabytes. 16k originally. On a (exFat) disk formatted by a mac.

I've been using arch for a few years. Just reinstalled W10 on a new computer. Realized I have no clue how to build from source on windows.
It's so easy on Linux. Do I /need/ a third party program to compile?
Somewhat related, if so, WHY?

Or just open them with your file explorer

When I'm using gallery mode on Cred Forums X and I go through the pics, the page doesn't scroll down after I exit gallery. I'm using Chromium with Tampermonkey and the latest X.

Hello Cred Forums,
I am thinking about building a PC for my gaming hobby. I was hoping to build something I could put near my desk and run to desktop monitor, but also connects to my TV which is about 25 feet away? Does it make the most sense to buy a really long hdmi, or something like pic related?
Thanks for your consideration.

How do I activate pirated Windows 7?

I have too much memory I don't wanna get rid off and not enough HDD's. That's on my SSD that also has my OS. Too much of a hassle.
Ryder Roberts
There has to be a better way to say that. Are you saying you don't have room to back up your SSD somewhere else?
Nathan Rivera
what is a decent laptop for mild gaming? Not "I need to shove a 1080 for muh gamun" but something in the middle ground and with easy internals to upgrade. I have heard the new razer blade is good.
Brayden Roberts
I recently started using Ungoogled Chromium. The spellcheck doesn't work (enabled it manually, comes disabled by default), the cookie management works sometimes only, can't make it my default browser, among other tiny inconveniencies. What gives? Is this just the nature of forks? I can't go back to FF now, this shit is ridiculously fast compared to it. Am I going to have to succumb to the Chrome botnet and get it over with?
Tyler Howard
>laptop >easy to upgrade Pick one.
Tyler Gonzalez
I'm saying not a hassle for the ram and or storage.
Alexander Wilson
Yes, sorry I typed that in a rush. All my HDD's are full.
Camden Sullivan
Again, laptop. Get whatever upgrades you want when you're buying the laptop, and call it good.
Nathaniel Foster
I mean, there are guides to perma-remove malware, but they're a PITA, and they're not foolproof either. Really your best bet is to find some way of backing up and nuking your system partition, unless you can identify something you're exposing your computer to that might be manually reintroducing the malware on a regular basis.
Aiden Brown
Ah, I see. Thanks. I'll probably just try the latter and cross my fingers. What's the best free anti-malware program these days? Malwarebytes doesn't seem to even detect this one, so I had to manually run JRT.

Can you replace a Linux distro installation on a dualboot system, without fucking everything up? Don't necessarily need to do this now, I'm just interested - I currently have a Debian/Win10 dualboot, but if I wanted to switch to say, Fedora or Arch in the future, can I do that without ruining the dualboot?
Brayden Powell
Yes

I got an e-reader recently and it has a very fine scratch on the screen, which isn't a terrible issue except that the tip of the scratch causes the backlight to reflect off of it in a very distracting manner.
Is there a way I can get rid of the scratch carefuly?

I've managed to turn all windows 10 app icons invisible, I can't figure out what I did or how to undo it.
Google yielded no useful results.
I've tried running sfc /scannow, and I'm about to reboot to allow chkdsk /f to scan.

Is it worth it though. I have a 1080p now and im not sure its worth shelling out 700 dollars for 1440p with high a refresh rate. Not even sure Ill noticed a massive difference from display quality that will justify my expense.

Worth it to buy a console just for Cyberpunk 2077, Deus Ex MK, and the new Mass Effect?
I'm not so much a gamer anymore, and I'm having trouble making the decision. I don't want to buy a console for just a handful of games, but on the other hand, I wouldn't mind wasting some of my life again since I haven't done so in so long
