What do you guys think about them? I was thinking of buying the Gazelle model. Seems they're pretty small as a company.
worth supporting. I think one thing that's holding back GNU/Linux from going mainstream is that not enough computers come with it preinstalled.
Overpriced clevo Reseller shit
Overpirced as hell, just buy a normal laptop and put your favorite Distro into it.I dont know how to feel for their PopOs
Overpriced, but what they sell is good, especially as they come without (or most of it gone) Int*l ME.
they're all branding, no engineering.
I really wish I could get this or a purism laptop
What about stationx? Are their laptops good?
The company is pretty based, but realistically I don't see any reason to not just buy an average Windows laptop and install Linux; I'm sure it's almost always cheaper, and then you get a wider selection to choose from.
Dys episod of Landuk sho iz brat to (you) bye sYsTeM SeVeNty SiXXX :-DD
forgot to mention that pop os is actually really good
yet another macbook designclone
"lel buy a windows laptop and install loonux"
YOU ARE VOTING FOR MICROSOFT WITH YOUR FUCKING WALLET YOU FUCKERS REEEEEEEE.
if you buy a windows laptop, that tells the world that you support the Windows monopoly. Nobody with power cares whether you install some other OS post-purchase. By buying a laptop with GNU/Linux, you are making a statement that you like GNU/Linux, and want to use it on your hardware. It may not be much, as you are only one person, but every little bit helps.
So much this
I'm not particularly interested in making a statement. If the "Windows monopoly" means I spend less money on a laptop, then isntall whatever software I choose, then indeed, I have no issue with the "Windows monopoly"
just buy a thinkpad or a Latitude E4310 and install Gentoo.
Lemme break this down...
be the customers
buy lots of hardware with GNU/Linux preinstalled
people with decision making power see the trend
"hmm, maybe we should get in on this market!"
companies like HP, Lenovo, ASUS, etc offer a distro (probably Ubuntu) as an option on purchase, and Dell expands their already existing options for it.
normies start trying it out, as the option is now presented to them.
hardware companies see a rise in normies using GNU/Linux.
"hmm maybe this Linux desktop thing isn't just a meme, and maybe we should stop being as jewish about our hardware support?"
we get open-sourced Nvidia GPU drivers and Broadcom and Intel wireless drivers.
They still use Windows Mod key labels on everything but the "Arch for Babies" laptop edition..
They're a great way to spend $750 on a $300 laptop
As opposed to?
Wireless drivers already work fine on Linux, especially Intel ones. If your device is unsupported you can install windows drivers on your Linux OS.
Why can't I get to the puri.sm website?
Wireless drivers already work fine on Linux
Dell already offered Ubuntu for a while
it didnt fly well
Then they can sell a GNU/Linux machine at a competitive price point. There are already *significant* compromises being made by using it on the desktop, they don't also need to charge more on top of it.
at least post the good version
Works on my machine :^)
only Atheros, Ralink, and a couple Realteks work without going through the process of installing a proprietary driver
You don't need that fat kike to make unfunny "jokes" the video was funny by itself.
Atheros alone probably makes up most of all wireless cards.
Plus, you didn't hear this from me, but some distros come with [trigger warning]non-freedom-respecting drivers[/warning] so you don't have to install anything.
Atheros alone probably makes up most of all wireless cards.
you sure about that, buddy? every laptop I ever look at seems to have either broadcom or intel.
Intel works fine on most distros except freetard ones.
What fucking shitware are you using?
Then either install distros which aren't autistic about proprietary software/drivers or don't buy hardware from shitty manufacturers.
Intel WiFi is fully supported. Otherwise nobody would sell laptops with Intel's chips and Linux pre-installed.
They look like cheap plastic, and they don't dissapoint.
I installed pop_os on my laptop. I tried many different gnome based distros before, but this one feels especially polished.
I'll probably keep using this one for a while.
chinks that can't make a proper website and don't sell laptops directly
What's your argument? You can't buy their laptops unless you buy them from a branded company.
It's been down all day today for some reason
Actually, they're sold unbranded in the UK by PCSpecialist. I've had several Clevo models from the mid 2000s. They're cheap. And for good reason. They're poorly made. The batteries are shit.
The only redeeming qualities is that you can pick and choose the components you want and buy them without Windows pre-installed (thus saving you around 100 quid to put towards better components).
Is there anywhere I can buy the Dell XPS 15 with Linux pre-installed? 13" is just too small for my liking
If you want a laptop but a thinkpad is inaccaptable for whatever reasons get one. They're well made and the company really deserves to get more attention
Nah sadly they don't offer the XPS15 with Ubuntu.
They do offer several mobile workstations that are 15" though. Here's the list of everything they have:
I don't care what hardware and software other people use.
Do you care about hardware compatibility for yourself though?
Why they don't put elementary OS instead of creating their own distro? They're already working with the eOS team.
people say they are overpriced, but a laptop with their same stats as the ones they sell in system76 is nowhere to be found
good luck finding a xps with the same specs without it costing 3k
I got a Galago Pro at work and it's garbage. It's really overpriced. I support the mission and their commitment to disabling ME, but this shit lasts 3 hours until another charge.
The only ones that are worth the price are the ones without dedicated video.
purism's website is down due to registrar fuckery
Solid machines. Mine just died after 9 years of service, 2 drives, so many OS's.
The power system gave out, outside of that she ran like a fucking champ. If I was in the market for a new laptop they would be my first choice.
