Why the U.S. calls themselves "America"?, they are americans, but not the way the say it

Why the U.S. calls themselves "America"?, they are americans, but not the way the say it.

America it's a continent, not a country.

At least South Africa has the decency to be at the very south of Africa. If the U.S. wanted to be called "North America" it wouldn't even be true tho.

...

Very sorry
We will call ourselves United Statians from now on
Thank you for your correction

That's literally how we call you in spanish "Estadounidense"

because 'united statian' sounds fucking retarded

oh boy, here we go

In portuguese that's how you're called. Sometimes "north american".

They can do whatever they want, because they have the power. You don't, because you are not even white!

australians went to USA and bantered them for not owning an entire continent

>At least South Africa has the decency to be at the very south of Africa

are you saying US should conquer Canada?

fucking idiot. Its like I can call myself European easely. An ukranian or albanian CANT (can not) call himself European. Folks from the U.S.A are called Americans. You latinos from other places around is called that part of the other americas thats not U.S.A property.

They're the only part that matters

australia isn't a continent, it's just an oversized island

Dude, it's because there's no such thing as literal translations. In Spanish and French the whole continent is counted as a single one, "America". In English it is divided in two, North and South America or "the Americas" and you would people from those continents either South, Central or North Americans, there's no mistaking it with the denonym American which is generally understood, reserved for the US, same as with "America". If they speak Spanish they should acomodate the way they say things eg, someone from the US going "Soy americano" in Spanish is retarded. If we speak English we need to acomodate their cultural norms, and that is the countyr "America" inhabited by "Americans" is in the continet of North America.

*and you would call people from those continents"

We something call you étatsunien

That is not your business snowniggers.GTFO

that's how we call you in italian
statunitensi

Because "united states of Americans" sounds retarded.

>it's another "beaner gets mad because we don't have a name for the entire hemisphere" thread

there's North America, South America, and then simply America, our country

and if that answer doesn't satisfy you, just remember that we are the only relevant thing on this side of the planet and therefore deserve the name

now off you go, that's a good bean

Because we ARE America. We are the first and foremost, the most powerful and relevant power in both continents. When people think "America," they think of the United States, everyone else is secondary. Live with it shitskins.

that how we call you in nahuatl "estatuhnietzin"

Because in the end we are the only nation on the continents that has any type of high relevance, in fact if wasn't for China and Russia we would probably be calling ourselves Earthicans

More than it's any business of yours, Rocky Lin

this desu might as well call us galaxians because were the most powerful country in the galaxy

...

We control the entirety of both North and South America so as the ruler of the land we're rightful in just calling ourselves America.

That's how we call you in dubs, Check thesedubsians

...

Is there ever a time where these threads aren't started by a spic?

Another day, another sudaca flustered over what we call ourselves

No, they are literally the only ones who care about it. To everyone else we are Americans.

t. estadounidense

>gets mad that US people call themselves american
>calls every asian person chinese

dat filename

>california
nice self-hate chicano

The country: "The United States" or "America"
Demonym of country: "American"
Continents: "The Americas"
Demonym of continents: "Pan-American"

And I've read somewhere that it's mostly Brits and other Commonwealth people who call the country "America", which a newspaper article conjectured was the remains of colonialism; Americans themselves use the term "the United States" far more often.

Just throwing in this comment because it comes up every time this is discussed.

Mexico's official name is not "United States of Mexico", it actually is "United Mexican States".

Just posting this because Usanians (not all, some of them are I assume, good people) want to justify their naming sense with "Oh, but Mexico does it, so it's fine", no, it's not fine.

I have no idea why
Probably because we are the only country in the world with America in the name
Also checked dubs

AMERICA = SYNONYM FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

NORTH AMERICA = CANADA, U.S, MEXICO
SOUTH AMERICA = CENTRAL AMERICA AND THE REST OF LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES OUTSIDE THE CARIBBEAN

THE AMERICAS = BOTH N. AND S. AMERICA

america doesn't have the same meaning in english as it does in spanish

we've been over this desu

Last white man in california reporting in

Why do citizens of Estados Unidos de Mexico call themselves "Mexicans"?

"Estados Unidos de America"
"Estados Unidos de Mexico"
Remind me how you call Mexico...

> there's no mistaking it with the denonym American which is generally understood, reserved for the US

but it is

>Organization of American States
>Pan American Games
>Inter American Comission of Human Rights

etc.
