Really if you look at things Ireland has always been this way. The leaders of 16 knew well that they could only get the Brits out by direct force and even then most of the population was angry at the revolutionaries until they started getting executed.

In reality there are only 3 ways you can uncuck Ireland

1) Start a new party that's mostly centrist with a slightly more hard line approach to immigration and such and after electoral success slowly ramp up the conservative view (has some chance of success)

The government is too centralised here, and the government tries to make the more powerful councils less powerful by splitting Dublin into four councils, or by currently trying to merge Cork City with the rest of the county to remove the focus on Cork city and letting the county have no focus on some viable counterbalance to Dublin, too many people want something specifically for their parish without realising that if Cork city benefits from something, so will New Twopothouse village. Nothing will happen though with trying to make more viable councils, like giving them ways to fud their council or having 6-8 regional councils centered on a city/large town like Dundalk to make viable centres outside Dublin, because people will complain that we'll no longer make decisions based on the GAA jersey we wear.
