I learned about Cred Forums in 2009, and lurked on Cred Forums

I didn't stay long though, however a couple of years later (in late 2011) I came back, and again started lurking on Cred Forums. Then by early 2012 I had started regularly posting. This lasted a few months until I got tired of Cred Forums, at which point I started looking at other boards. I gave Cred Forums a go, in august 2012, and it was pretty much love at first sight. It's been my only board ever since.

some time in 2004 i dont know when, i came here only for /h/ for a while and dont remember when i started going to Cred Forums, but it was before 2005 still since i was coming here before WoW was released. I stopped going to Cred Forums when the scientology crap was happening because the culture basically became what it used to mock, and have only gone to other boards since.

Actually my biggest regret is not saving more images from that period of time, or preserving the hard drives I had them on.

Now my oldest picture is of a slowpoke from 2007 and it's practically newfag shit.

Yeah, when I came in late 2006, the raiding was already starting to get tamped down, you saw fewer mods actively commenting and banning. The ossification of the site's userbase was already underway. I understood that the site was actively going through a change towards the mainstream, and that, even then when I just joined, the site's best days were behind it.

I'm not certain whether it was 2005 or 2006, but my ytmnd account was started in May 2005 and I imagine that I was on ytmnd and Cred Forums around the same time.

It's interesting to me that nowdays there might be people who call memes "memes" unironically, when calling them memes was itself a meme. I remember in 2010 there was some guy in uni who wanted to show me "some memes" and it was those stupid trollface comics.

They used to be called image macros, not that I'm sitting here in a rocking chair saying we have to go back to calling them that, just that it's one of the many jokes that turned into not a joke anymore.

I also pinpoint advicedog as a turning point in image macro/meme quality. Originally I hated advicedog. In my mind it was really low quality. Then it branched off into insanity wolf and others, and by that time (2007/2008?) I had started to accept it. But Advicedog style image macros are the ones that got grabbed by "meme generator" sites and pretty much became synonymous with the word "meme" among normies, which I found pretty frustrating (I no longer care...)

Advicedog style images are just an update of Demotivationals, which are also image + 2 lines of text, and also quickly degraded over time and were grabbed by generators.

Obviously cat pics were the first ones to be grabbed by generators but that happened so long ago I barely remember how I felt about it, just annoyed I guess.

There used to be shame in having a generator watermark on your image. As someone mentioned ITT, people used to take the time to photoshop things. If you had a watermark from a generator you were an obvious newfag.

People also used to be autistic about naming their files. Nowdays people post things without a filename, just the numbers they saved it with, but back in the day the filename was usually part of the joke/content of the thread. But having an unnamed file was also a subtle sign of someone being a newfag.

It's different now. Oh well.

Old Cred Forums humor was more lighthearted, imo. Probably actually is "reddit tier". I haven't changed my humor style with the times so I still have that more lighthearted style of humor. I guess it's also important that I was never a Cred Forumstard, not even when I started, I always posted on other boards, usually SFW ones, so I think the shock humor was just never a big part of my experience in my early days here.

the conflict between anonymous and tripfriends is what kept things in line. then forced anonymous happened and that caused raiding to become a thing because people had to go elsewhere for their conflict. This attracted in a bunch of outsiders who got a totally wrong impression of Cred Forums.

Then after a while, a long while, of the site being full of normie shits posting their jailbait threads in Cred Forums a rules sticky returned (they used to be fairly common in the early days but were not there for a really long time). All the newbies flipped out and went to 7chan or something, but then came back.

Anyway teh damage was done, raiding turned into protesting and efg became an actual fucking mascot and scientology put Cred Forums on the actual supermainstream and its all shit now.

for a while Cred Forums was similar to how things used to be in tone but not really subject, but its shit now too ever since that cuckold meme made moot flip
