DDR had plenty of food and was only 3x poorer than capitalist Germany. My dad who lived in commie Czechoslovakia visited it, said it was really comfy. North Korea is 40x poorer than South Korea, not comparable. Most European communist countries were incomparable to DPRK, even Romania was like 10x richer.

Literally this. DDR was the best communist country in terms of living conditions. Although they got a lot of money from west Germany.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner. Lets not forget that the DDR also had the highest standard of living in the ENTIRE Warsaw Pact. Yes, even better than the Russian SFR. Yet another example of German superior quality.

Also unlike the DDR, North Korea has since the 1990's commited the worst environmental disasters in history, if you look at it in terms of a % of land they ruined. For example, during the famine of 1990's, Norks were also desperate for heating, and thus they quite literally cut down nearly ALL of their forests. Soil erosion is at nightmare proportions. Visitors have noted that in various places, its seems as if the land is completely devoid of wildlife. No birds, squirrels, fuck even mice.

The amount of time and money and resources that Koreans will have to put in, once reunification happens, is beyond massive. But Koreans are tough and will eventually come out of this hardship as a near super power nation.
