80,000 Brits, Aussies, New Zealanders captured

>80,000 Brits, Aussies, New Zealanders captured
>Greatest British loss in history
Where did it go so wrong? You had one job.

The natives wouldn't help.

So? By doing that they avoided the complete anihilation of Singapore. If the japanese leaders were half that smart they would have avoided the two nukes and the fire bombs campaign thought out the country.

Well actually we did, at that point we were taken to be part of Malaya, so some of the people drafted into the army in the battle of Singapore were under the Malayan army.

Bump, where the brits at?

The jews did it

just havin' a giggelo m8 next time we'll just leave before the shit hits the ceiling fan and get shitfaced in Darwin.

>100,000 Allied forces vs 30,000 scrawny japs
>All captured
Winston Churchill was fucking pissed off of the defeat then.

At least japs that were actally there

>A classified wartime report by Wavell, British General in Command of Indian, Dutch and British forces, released in 1992 blamed the Australians for the loss of Singapore.
>They eventually made their way back to Australia,[138] meanwhile between 15,000 and 20,000 Australian soldiers are reported to have been captured.
>Australia, runs and leaves their own men to die
10/10 military

>1 destroyer heavily damaged
Where did it all go so wrong?

>Allies secure Kiska
Nice job

>struggled to win a fight on the other side of the the earth
gee I wonder why

New Zealand were the one that did nothing wrong, sheepfuckers were actually more useful than the Aussies and the Brits combined.

>On the evening of 10 February, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, cabled Wavell, saying:

I think you ought to realise the way we view the situation in Singapore. It was reported to Cabinet by the C.I.G.S. [Chief of the Imperial General Staff, General Alan Brooke] that Percival has over 100,000 [sic] men, of whom 33,000 are British and 17,000 Australian. It is doubtful whether the Japanese have as many in the whole Malay Peninsula... In these circumstances the defenders must greatly outnumber Japanese forces who have crossed the straits, and in a well-contested battle they should destroy them. There must at this stage be no thought of saving the troops or sparing the population. The battle must be fought to the bitter end at all costs. The 18th Division has a chance to make its name in history. Commanders and senior officers should die with their troops. The honour of the British Empire and of the British Army is at stake. I rely on you to show no mercy to weakness in any form. With the Russians fighting as they are and the Americans so stubborn at Luzon, the whole reputation of our country and our race is involved. It is expected that every unit will be brought into close contact with the enemy and fight it out ..[92]

1. Destruction of Force Z
2. Brits being pinned down in the home islands plus spread thin in the Atlantic
3. Brits pulling back and consolidating in India
4. ANZAC not ready for war and fears invasion of their own islands
5. Obsolete aircraft on the British side
6. Failure of delaying actions in the Malayan peninsular due to the Japs advancing very fast using bicycles and looting the countryside for supplies
7. The defenders of Singapore knew that no reinforcement or relief were coming
8. Crucially, they mistakenly thought that the Japs, who were WWI allies, will treat POWs according to Geneva conventions and the Brits thought it was the lesser evil in order to spare civillians a siege.

Canadians are the worst

Was he a hero?

IIRC they set the defences the wrong way round, also morale was extremely low due to how fast the allies were getting btfo like in Malaysia and the Philippines at that time

>Japs
>Adhering to Geneva Convention
Remember Alexandria hospital?
>Defenseless doctors, nurses and wounded bayoneted
>People who could walk rounded up in a beach and shot.
>Soldiers undergoing surgery at time of break in, bayoneted
Japan really scum of the scum

The thing is that a counterattack would have worked. The Jap General was just bluffing the Brits, because they knew with only 30,000 troops against 100,000 troops, if the Brits chose to drag the battle, especially with lack of supplies, they would have lost

Japan should pay for war crimes

>b-but they had bicycles

go back to 9gag faggot

Damn straight, should have let him finish the job in Korea. Hell, China and all of Korea would be prosperous first world democratic countries today if he did.

Truman was a really shit president. Tbh

Yeah, that was pretty embarresing desu.

Especially because they could have easily won the battle had they decided to fight.

He was going to nuke China because he got butthurt about being slapped by a chinaman, that's a terrible fucking idea

>Potentially starting WWIII and killing tens of millions all for a shitty piece of Korean clay

MacArthur was many things, but calculating is not one of them.

Well he can get the job done with low casualties. His battles usually end up with high enemy casualty and low American Casualties. Literally the definition of a based American Warlord.

they stood no chance at that point anyway.
admittedly the invasion force itself was relatively small, but singapore was isolated as japan was keeping the sea, and the entire island would have been destroyed by naval/aerial bombardment had they not surrendered. percival made a good choice actually.

Nuking Beijing is hardly "low casualties"

No, records show that the Jap forces in Singapore had only a few hours of artillary arnaments left, Yamashita had to make the Brits surrender and had to make it quick. Taks note, this is on the same day Pearl Harbor was nuked, the UK could easily have access to the US for help. So the Brits with around 50,000 troops at that point could still hold the line through slow guerilla tactics, which would buy them time until reinforcements came. The US at that point was like the army on roids, Douglas McArthur could easily zerg rushed the Japs.

Ok let me rephrase
Low AMERICAN casualties.

Honestly they should have let him nuke China. McArthur is honestly more brilliant as a Tactician than anything China or Russia can offer. He can get the job done with less, his ratio of casualties in battle has gone as low as 1:10.

Honestly if you guys won, you guys would have just seized atomic armaments and nuked the shit out of Japan and still their shit from them.

Reminder that this actually happened

Answer for war crimes plz
>Stabbing wounded soldiers on an operating table
>Beheading Australians
>Sending Brits on Hell Ships
>Stabbing Babies

like i said, yamashita's force didn't matter. if he had failed then the army would have sent another force with swarms of these bad boys to make singapore into oblivion. and nobody could stop the IJN at that point as churchill grieved.

>In all the war, I never received a more direct shock... As I turned over and twisted in bed the full horror of the news sank in upon me. There were no British or American ships in the Indian Ocean or the Pacific except the American survivors of Pearl Harbor, who were hastening back to California. Over all this vast expanse of waters Japan was supreme, and we everywhere were weak and naked.[54]

>You had one job
Except they didn't, they were also fighting the Germans, you retard.

Sure, the 100,000 troops stationed in Singapore were fighting Germans
