boring edition?
other one still had a few posts left but ok
So is Gojira worth seeing live? Im a big fan of TesseracT and they are touring together but i dont know if i should stick around for Gojira afterwards.
>mfw cucks still post on /metal/
>is Gojira worth seeing live?
>Im a big fan of TesseracT
Why does this cover look like an edgy Jar Jar?
How I tell if an artist will be good live is asking myself how many effects or producer sounds they use in each song. So in my opinion Gojira wouldnt be that great, but sometimes bands have sound crews that are good enough to make it work.
dude you sound boring
replied to wrong person ment to reply to:
That Batushka is quite good actually.

What do you guys think of the new leaked Neurosis? I'd put up a yt link but I'm on my phone

how boring
Only metal ive discovered is Xasthur. I couldn't absorb it at first and got memed by youtube having prison of mirrors as the top track. Funeral of being is essential noisy trippy dissonant Black metal though. Took me 4 years to check him out and i regret it.
Oh and vaginal penetration of an amelus with a musty carrot is perfect slam. Their portion of the three way live split is god. They modulate to sound like pigs. They're funny, groovy and intense i love it.
Oh and xysma. Their demo is basically old carcass. I think they were trying to write death metal during dm roots but came out with grind.
who are you quoting
im seein them live next month. ill tell you how it sounds
bunch of bores
That Fagushka is quite good actually.
>tfw /metal/ is so shit I'm listening to 70s Swedish prog

I haven't heard a single song. I'm going in cold on Friday.
What are some upcoming metal tours that people may have overlooked? I know Satan and Trap Them are coming up.
What's on the menu tonight, boys?

Is Skeletonwitch's new singer any good?
apparently this happened
I like him but I've only heard them with him.
That is pretty gay.
>not that there's anything wrong with that
Dream Theater's gonna add more dates to their tour r-right?
Also, if anyone shouts for them to play anything not on The Astonishing, ESPECIALLY Pull Me Under, I hope you get executed by Lord Nafaryus himself.
user, I DON'T HAVE a beard..
>wanting to see dt live
why?
...
what is some grindcore with spiritual themes / atmospherics? something like neurosis, tool, & liturgy but grindcore.
also all christian grindcore i've heard is meme music but if there's something good that fits that niche it'd also suffice.

Anyone listened to this?
I saw Elder and Subrosa, they were amazing. I accidentally missed most of Bongripper. My ticket was like $200 which isnt too bad for all the good bands i saw. Theyre announcing the 2017 lineup in October, you should check it out.
What does /metal/ think of this record?

that's a high price to pay but that's some once in a lifetime-tier performances. If next year's lineup is remotely as good im seriously considering a plane ticket to Vegas

Jazz Fusion, the combination of Jazz and Rock, not only exists, but it's fucking great (see stuff like Soft Machine and Mahavishnu Orchestra)
Now, here's a question
Why haven't Metal and Jazz been combined yet?
How do you think it would sound like?
didn't Cynic do that in like 1992

I love Tarot. I was so pissed off when Marco left for that wank-fest Nightwish.
Masochistic Jag
Do you think they called their upcoming album "Arctic Thunder" as a reference to Tropic Thunder?
no the name comes from some concert (?) or something, i think they mention it on their Facebook page somewhere if you really want to know.
> So, before we started recording Arctic Thunder, Ted tried uh, to go to a cosmetic clinic to have his skin color changed to yellow so he can get in touch with his Inuit side, but they uh, refused him, so he did it at home with highlighter pens and he only eat raw fish for six months.
>It's important because he say he has to stay in character the whole time, but he smell like fish every time I go see him and uh, one time he come to my apartment and Peanut Butter start to attack him I think because she wanted to eat him.
Its really good.
Name a memier band
Pro-tip: you can't
How'd you like their last one? I was really impressed, so I was considering a blind buy on this one.
Fenriz looks more like a garden gnome with each year that passes.
More like Bolt Thrower?
Check out Runemagick
It really is. Petal rips ass.
Thanks a lot man.
Not him but I felt the mixing Kurt Ballou did really didn't fit the band. This one is more Ex Lives than From Parts Unknown. And the riffage along with the lyrics are so much better.
>Not him but I felt the mixing Kurt Ballou did really didn't fit the band
how so?
The cleans sounded terrible. And some songs sounded really too much like Converge. This one is much more southern influenced and I always loved that.
>And some songs sounded really too much like Converge

Loved it. Moor was my song of the year i think

Will Chris Moyen ever git gud?
>Why haven't Metal and Jazz been combined yet?
Because you're completely new to metal?
and you're new to jazz? because there is literally no jazz in this song. There's barely even any prog which is what you're mistaking it for.
>there is literally no jazz in this song
Jazz isn't exclusively wanking on a saxophone, stop being a musically illiterate wanker. A lot of stuff labelled jazz-fusion in metal doesn't even use traditional jazz instruments in the first place and just use time signatures and music structures commonly associated with jazz genres. Cynic is very much jazz-fusion metal and always has been.
Is there a chart for avant-garde metal? (no circus-core please)
Been listening to a lot of Maudlin of the Well and Ved Buens Ende
that previous song contains literally no jazz
point out one fucking chord or anything
zero
just because a time signature is a little off kilter doesnt make it jazz
>that previous song contains literally no jazz
I'd dump my smug anime girl reaction folder if I knew I wouldn't be banned for it. The drumming in Cynic's Focus is very jazz-influenced
>1:22 in the previous link

listen to Angst Skvadron, Dodheimsgard and Molested.
Check out Virus if you're up for some prog rock Voivod. Same songwriter from Ved Buens Ende.
Listen to more Cynic my lad, the bass and percussion is what's particularly jazzy about them, they tend to go down jazzy passages more than anything.
>1:22 in the previous link
lmfao goodbye
Is Arcturus circus core?
goodbye my lad. sorry you were disappointed to learn that not all jazz-fusion metal is saxophonecore
There's one on the Cred Forums wiki but it isn't really that good.
Mid 80s Celtic Frost and everything Sigh's done up to Imaginary Sonicscape are pretty essential avant-metal (Gallow's Gallery's a hit and miss, depends if you also enjoy a bit of power metal cheese). Arcturus too, some people waver on if they're circuscore or not. Thy Catafalque's worth checking out too.

As someone who saw Gojira open for Mastodon two years back who wasn't familiar with their music, they pretty much stole the show. Very good time and worth sticking around for.

yeah, you guys are probably gonna hate it.
The best way i can describe it is that it's a cross between Watershed and Pale Communion, except it's stronger than both of those albums. "Pale Communion on steroids" is a pretty good descriptor of it as well.
The outro (and it's transition from Era) is the only part on the album that i truly hated. It's a seriously awesome album.
Go to bed PMrants
meme post
>stronger than Watershed
That's sounds way too good.
Watershed is overrated. It was the album that proved that they needed to move away from that sound. The best aspects of the album were the more bizarre moments that basically just built off of what Ghost Reveries had already done to greater effect.
For what it's worth, Sorceress is the heaviest of their 2010s albums. It's not death metal heavy, but there are some intense parts on it that we haven't heard from them in a while. The Wilde Flowers and Chrysalis, particularly.
what's the best pickup for high gain distortion pushed though a 6505?
I know they're gay faggot cuck atmoshit but the new Russian Circles is pretty tight, definitely better than Memorial and Empros. They're getting more energetic without descending into Pelican-style aimlessness.
Saw them around the same time. They put on a good show
I would say it's easily their weakest

Currently at the Wilde Flowers, it's way better so far than the last 2 albums.
Speaking of Watershed, it was an album I didn't really like at first, but now I seriously think it's their best album.
they were good when I was just getting into metal but everything I like about them has been done better by other bands. plus the fanbase is one of the worst in metal.
Terrifyer is better
They still kicked ass that day, but yeah, that's pretty much the problem with all open-air scenes. Same went for Ghost, Megadeth, Amon Amarth (especially them)...

Metal died in 1993. Only 12 good albums have been released since then (most of them in 1994, being already recorded by 1993). Metal achieved its creative peak in albums like Onward to Golgotha, Pure Holocaust, and The Red in the Sky is Ours, elevating the genre into a legitimate art form. Now, thanks to Slaughter of the Soul and Gojira, all its potential was squandered and the genre has been reduced into being mere gimmick ridden noise for drunk idiots (i.e. the lowest common denominator - stop trying to turn underground metal into AC/DC).
>>>deathmetal.org
it's like melodic pre-demilich
unironically agree with their sentiment but would raise it to about '96 maybe. early death/black touched on something eternal but I realize the futility of subscribing hardcore to such conservativeness so I still manage to appreciate new metal
