Did you only listen to those 10 albums in terms of metal this year?
i'm listening to starspawn right now, and i'm fucking tickled.
No
It's a fantastic album, user.
>Inter Arma
That shitstain alone disqualifies the whole list IMO.
Have some slam peeps:
rottenmusic.bandcamp.com
I'm serious about replacing those meme albums like Inter Arma and Memethe'ilist. Shit, the both of them. Let's get a real chart going.
made one
Whomever recommended this record the other night, thanks.
Finally got to listening to it and it's great.
Links for you faggots
youtube.com
wtcproductions.bandcamp.com
I said a real chart.
I'm going to make a chart of every metal album in 2016 I thought was worth listening to more than once.
agree with replacing inter arma but strongly disagree with replacing catheelist
>Inter Arma
>meme
barely anyone has talked about it though what the fuck
Well make one.
If it includes the Abbath s/t, Schammasch, Wormed, Defeated Sanity, or any atmoshit I'm laughing you back to /r/metal.
you go girl
Would check that out tbqh.
That great specific, the grand differentiator of "here," "there," "then" and "now": Time. The revolution is NOW, each moment an insurgency of the will against the greater spectacle of civilization, if you choose to seize it. No, there is no magickal/instantaneous technique which would propel such evolutions, but rather the eternal refining of one's craft upon the altar of The Riff. Meet the recordings as they ARE, not as you think/want/hope them to be. Open your mind as well as your ears - "Listen with the Mind's Eye." There is no context besides the NOW being continually revealed. Each recording has no purpose other than to document that exact moment of exactly where we were at that time, not just as a band, but as individuals in our own lives as well as in the greater context of your perceived "metal scenes".
>Abbath s/t, Schammasch, Wormed, Defeated Sanity, or any atmoshit
jesus that was uncalled for
>memelovers
Explain how it's a meme or I'll assume you're shitposting
I will say that the Inter Arma album at least had good drumming iirc.
exactly how much weed do you have to smoke to write this
Anyone else listen to this record?
Thoughts?
as I recall the last proper song is really cool
Which one is that? (I listened to about a third of the album before giving up.)
I don't necessarily think all of these are great albums, or even good albums, but these were the albums I felt were worth more than listening to a single time. I'm definitely forgetting a few.
Violent Constellations
I thought it was gonna be my way into the album but it didnt happen
Thanks a bunch user :)! That Kurishimi one in particular looks intriguing.
(Also, what site are people using to make these?)
thanks :)
>kurushimi
>lascar
>blood incantamy fucking nigga
It meets the definition of a meme.
I thought Lascar was a very average album. I could see how someone more inclined to post-black/atmoshit would like it more though and deem it worthy of "more than one listen."
Actually, I take that back. If the atmoshit in question is pic related it's fine.
dont pretend you are Kurushimi is so tight, Lascar was cool, Blood Incantation is my metal aoty so far, missed them this weekend because I've been sick, but I hope to catch them next time they come around
topsters.net is working again
POST WHAT YOU ARE CURRENTLY LISTENING TO
looks like a neat chart, gonna dive into some of the ones that have interesting art.
>dont pretend you are
I'm not, I was just supporting his opinion.
>topsters.net is working again
thanks user
Plebs, we all know that there are only three truly great metal albums worth listening to from 2016, and they are all in pic related.
Why listen to derivative stuff when you can listen to truly interesting sounding stuff?
dude xylophones lmao
Forgot to put oranssi pazuzu on didn't care for that aluk todolo album much, didn't listen to king goblin
>Cryptozoology
That's a cool album title, used to be into that shit when I was a kid.
Thanks for the recs, user!
Hey piero
You forgot Troller
Do you guys visit any other metal communities or forums?
If so, which ones?

Could you send this message to MA:
Dear MA
You're all fucking degenerate faggots who recognize metalcore and djent, you deserve to fucking burn while being raped by your own fathers
Love, /metal/
is that an irc?
>who recognize metalcore and djent
What did he mean by this?
The literal interpretation.
Is Rotting Christ overrated or overlooked?
Overrated. One of the most well-known Greek black metal acts.
pls respond to this post /metal/
okay here you go
with what?
Post-metal.
I know only like half the records on this list if it says anything
no not respond to
new neurosis on friday?
Am I doing this right?
Okay, here you go. With what?
you're actually making it more confusing now
So we respond to this one, right?
It leaked already
nice posts exactly a minute apart :)
No they aren't.
nice posts exactly a minute apart :)
WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO?
nothing I've given up
so fucked
HARDWIRED
just finished listening to starspawn for the first time.
And how amazingly exuberant are you? Only a lot or overwhelmingly?
What are your favorite metal releases of the 2010s so far, /metal/? These are mine.
Sup Piero
You know, even if it's mostly gimmicky stuff, it is kinda cool that A LOT of his favorites from this decade have been metal albums considering that most of the albums in the pic are rated as high or higher than the #6 metal album in his unupdated top 100 metal albums list.
You missed Cleric, Hail Architeuthis, and Rolo Tomassi,
You know, no it isn't, because he's a meme troll with purposely shit taste in metal.
The first two of those aren't metal, and Rolo's closer to hardcore than metal.
Hail Architeuthis I'll grant is closer to prog-rock but Cleric and Rolo are both metalcore subgenres.
But Sutekh Hexen, Murmuure, Abu Lahab and Troller are metal?
>gimmicky
True that.
The first two definitely are and even have MA pages. Troller are darkwave I was one space short of having an even chart, AL can go either way.
Doesn't matter if they have MA pages, MA gives pages to dark ambient. Neither are metal proper. Cleric or Rolo would have fit nicely in their space.
Also Harvestman isn't metal.
I would argue Harvestman are considering they still have that slight Neurosis post-metal sludge feel to them, but that doesn't matter I just realized that no version of In A Dark Tongue actually even came out this decade I have no clue why Scaruffi has that in 2015.
different user here
how is Cleric not metal
I would consider Cleric and Rolo more on the hardcore side than the metal side personally.
I understand you personally consider them that, but that's not really an argument. That's not even a reason.
But it is though. Metalcore, mathcore, etc. are all hardcore genres first and metal genres second. The only time this may not be true is for melodic metalcore stuff where the At The Gates influence far surpasses the hardcore one.
>hardcore genres first and metal genres second
Prove it.
Also are you including grindcore in this?
Simple, they are otherwise more focused on having a punk attack supplemented by metal. Grindcore's that way, too. Very few metalcore/mathcore/grindcore/whatevercore bands are ever doing the metal riff-centric thing.
>they are otherwise more focused on having a punk attack supplemented by metal
Yeah that's not proof, that's just a rephrasing "hardcore genres first and metal genres second".
You didn't actually explain how they focus more on punk than metal.
I didn't like them before, but I think I get it now.
>Very few metalcore/mathcore/grindcore/whatevercore bands are ever doing the metal riff-centric thing.
ha ha ha what are you insane? Metalcore is literally defined by having metal riffs.
Those aren't centered around having riffs and the way metal uses riffs as almost a form of narration. This is next level retarded. Would you call thrash metal a form of punk, too by the stupid logic you guys are bringing up?
>Those aren't centered around having riffs and the way metal uses riffs as almost a form of narration
If you could just actually explain how they aren't centered around having riffs the way metal uses riffs as almost a form of narration.
No, I wouldn't call thrash metal a form of punk, and I'm not sure what I or the other guy said to give you that idea.
>by the stupid logic you guys are bringing up?
nigga neither of us is bringing up a logic that suggests that, if anything you are
Ah the please explain b8. Come up with something more original.
So you don't have an explanation then. That's too bad.
Nah, you're proving my point. You guys are obviously able to see that despite a heavy punk influence, thrash is still metal, but despite a heavy metal influence, are too delusional to see that metalcore/others aren't metal.
I bet it's the same guy who goes full autist whenever there's some post declaring "Band X > Band Y"
he starts demanding "proof" or explanations and then always in the end goes "oh, so it's just your opinion then, ok"
Nah I made it pretty easy, love. You just gotta be able to figure it out on your own.
>expecting to be fed on the chanz
>being this pleb
>probably doesn't even enjoy the bands we are talking about
You're assuming that metalcore is hardcore first and metal second and you haven't properly established and proved that.
No, you never explained anything.
I did it twice and you're so fucking mad about it
it's hilarious
so yeah, the same guy
But I have clearly proved that. It's history and its approach to songwriting clearly show that. I guess you just aren't a big enough fan to notice. Fucking plebs. Bet you listen to some stupid shit like Autechre or something.
No, just lurking. How butthurt are you by what's a simple interaction? Why are you so butthurt by it? Because I rightfully pointed out it was just your opinion?
You actually have not those. You've just said them, and then acted as if it was already proved true.
actually I've never made an "X > Y" post here, just noticed you throwing the same autistic fit multiple times when someone else did it with some "classic" albums or whatever
So you saw two people having a discussion and what one person did pissed you off so much you keep bringing it up? Who's autistic now?
>multiple times
Literally twice. You can see both of them in the archive.
>having the attention span of a child
Grow up, loser.
If you think you've proven your points at any time in this thread, please show me. I'm going up the reply chain and I can't find anything.
>being this blind
>wanting to continue shitposting at 6am
>being this much of a child
>you keep bringing it up?
yeah I "kept bringing it up" once lol
Can you not find the post where you proved it?
Also it is not 6am here, but if you'd like to stop feel free to at anytime.
Twice lol, which by your count makes it multiple autistic fits
well if you count multiple consecutive posts within a short amount of time as part of the same discussion as bringing it up more than once, then sure whatever
So yeah...metal's pretty good stuff, guys. Remember when we used to talk about metal?
So, (You) are confirmed for multiple autistic fits
Why did this even piss you off? I asked two people why they thought one thing was better than another, they gave me personal preferences instead of any kind of analytical reasoning, so I called it what it was. Opinion. I wasn't even rude.
We're talking about it right now.
Unless a certain someone can suddenly come up with proof that metalcore isn't metal, in which case we are not.
>Why did this even piss you off?
it didn't, you just prefer to think it did
Been banned for a few days so I haven't been checking in, but, what have you lads thought of the new In the Woods and Darkthrone?
ItW was pretty okay til the last song which I really enjoyed, and Darkthrone was consistently a 7-7.5 the whole way through. Nothing amazing but pretty fun to listen to. I'm just glad Darkthrone are playing BM again.
>dem heavy metal and doom riffs
I know it pissed you off. The way you're acting tells me that. Deny it all you want, it's just your opinion.
why is there no hi res art for this album
its II by Spectral Lore and its cool
you can think whatever you like, it's just your opinion with no basis
Get a room, faggots.

Diadem of 12 Stars, The Mantle, Pale Folklore
I am really thinking about making a literally who metalcore band just to ask Bjonr "Speed" Strid to do quest vocals
nothing, been watching mongolian cave painting animations for the last few days while waiting for a good album to come out
I have a plan.
I want to impress a normal girl with my dangerous devil music tastes so I can lure her into a life of rock'n'roll vice and eventually turn her into this.
Can it be done? If so which albums should I make her listen to in order to enthrall her with forbidden hellish lust and stuff?

Post 5 Good but not Great metal albums of the 90s
there is literally not a single good album in your top 10 picks
>tfw finally after like a decade of fucking around I managed to join a decent, active gigging band
>imagine my disappointment when I realize that girls don't really come to thrash metal shows
meal for this feel?
will it finally be topped?
will it finally leak already?
No way
how could they simplify their songwriting that fucking much after ATWW will never seize to amaze me
guitar pro will be the bane of metal
Funny how Soilwork started as generic IF worship but now they play better style of melogroove than all their peers
Top tier guilty pleasure band tbqh
Bonded by Blood
>guitar pro will be the bane of metal
For you
Why is Soilwork a guilty pleasure? I am not saying they are a top tier band but they aren't really cringey. Whole Speed meme is really going a bit too far.
I'd rather say that Disarmonia Mundi is a guilty pleasure, and even that is pushing it. Mind Trick is a top tier modern metal album.
i see absolutely no relation to guitar pro
Because most of their albums have extremely simplistic songwriting and riffs even for melodeath
Its painfully obvious that their recent material is downright noodled and composed in guitar pro given how simplistic it is.
I still think that you might be a bit biased due to whatever reasons (read: memes).
I really do not enjoy Soilwork all that much. I do not enjoy the vocals, I do not enjoy the general lack of hooks that In Flames and Dark Trannquillity more or less mastered 20 years ago.
With that out of the way, they really have fairly complex songs and guitar work, and have had since day 1 more or less. Far more intricate guitar work than DT and IF combined. Their music is chaotic and far more busy than it needs to be. I mean I like Dillinger Escape Plan, for comparison, but Soilwork is sometimes harder to listen to for an entire album. You can sometimes really tell that they are actually overdoing the arrangements and songwriting to a degree because they have this constant need to change things up after every 4 bars.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can say a lot of things about them but shoddy songwriting should not be one of them. Last two or three albums are actually by far the best IMHO, from an objective point of view. Still can't dig more than one or two tracks per album subjectively.
>guilty pleasure
people who use this term in any degree of seriousness don't have a taste of their own
just like what you like without adding cuck qualifiers like this onto it
has any recent band jumped the shark as badly as solution 45, speaking of modern melomeal?
>debut is a 10/10
>next double album is shit without a single worthwhile song
That's what they get for jumping on djent bandwagon
I like how someone on RYM said NitWS I and II are like the Load and ReLoad of melodeath
Speaking of them, there was a facebook video like a year ago or longer, posted by Alvestam, in which he was listening to some rough mixes of some project he had with his producer. It sounded just like Solution 45 but it was in swedish, and it had this really really catchy as fuck clean sung (obviously) chorus
Why is it a software's fault, rather than creative lassitude on the band's part? I used to write music in guitar pro, and it allowed far more complex writing than I could have made with just a guitar in hand. Especially as far as writing multiple parts/harmonies. I find that using midi for composing makes me actually write too many riffs, because otherwise it seems boring.
/meal/ Vektor & Black Fast are coming to my city, should I go?
This was surprisingly good, best album I heard in a whale
Ha, that was probably me.
At least I never saw anyone else shilling this gem here.
You're welcome.
recs for stuff similar to this?
>no Forteresse.
I have. I don't like Power Metal which is probably why I like this record.
>best album I heard in a whale
Doesn't surprise me too much, tbqhfam.
WHITE AND CLAMMY

Anyone else hyped for Truckfighters' new album coming out in 10 days?
Killer as usual, unbelievably consistent band
it was more appealing than terminal redux. i'm still trying to parse what exactly it is, but whatever it is, it's certainly good. it's nice to hear something innovative that doesn't sound like the band is trying too hard to be different. seems like a natural progression in the genre.

Help a bm newbie out. Can you recommend Under A Funeral Moon tier bm albums?
Thanks guys!
i always see normies and pretty girls from south america commenting on extreme and raw metal music that would be considered "weird" and "just noise" by the average person here in the states. is it more socially acceptable down there or something?
South Americans also love to wear Graveland shirts to shows
now i finally get this meme
>socially acceptable
>listening to music
what
or are you just amazed that people dont have to dress like autistic social retards to listen to a genre of music
fuck yeah dudes. so many good albums,
your'e all getting me through my homework.
if youre unaware that extreme metal is considered
weird and even downright funny to the average person then it might be u who is autistic
Any good thrash this year?

This is great! What are you listening AT THIS MOMENT?
if you think this lmao at your life

what are you tlaking about
...
In south america people either listen to local folk like cumbia, regaetton, dad rock or metal.
post the best album from the last decade, AND WHY you think it deserves that title.
grimesfags need not apply
Muse bring an approach to composition and technicality that is completely unprecedented and unparalleled in both prog rock, and rock music in general. radiohead is always talking about transcending old paradigms, and while they have made some interesting music, in the end of the day, it's muse that are pushing the most boundaries and exploring the most uncharted territory. They don't need to talk about it; they simply sit back and let the music speak for itself.
this album hasn't gotten much recognition (yet) mostly because of how goddamn impenetrable it is. i couldn't even begin to comprehend what was going on until about my fifth listen. And even now, years later, i'm still discovering new hidden nuances with every listen.
even though it hasn't received much widespread attention, the critics who have undertaken the challenge of reviewing this behemoth have all sung nothing but praise for it.
This album shares more in common with modern classical music than with rock or metal. the constantly shifting and mutating structures, and the complete abandonment of any form of repetition or motivic arrangements recall an approach to "song"writing that forsakes the traditional idea off songs, in favor of what sounds much more similar to classical compositions.
I hate using the term post-rock, and i think the genre is pretty much creatively bankrupt, but if i had to label something as post-rock i would much sooner choose muse over the formulaic, psuedo-classical garbage that mogwai or explosions in the sky try to pass off as boundary-pushing
>that friend who always fucks with your guitar tuning when he comes over

you replied to the wrong post friendo
it's not that bad of an album but hipster black metal fans love how atmospheric and repetitive it is (it's also the worst of the unholy trilogy)
I'm tryna find an album but I don't remeber the name or the artist. I remember the cover was gore as fuck. There was like a loli with blood and shit. I know it was a metal album (maybe death or grind). Anyone knows it?
nah never seen it posted here before
That could be so many different things
Topping Blaze and Funeral Moon is a hard job, but being worse in the unholy trilogy isn't something I'd consider a flaw. It's still more than a good album.

And no, having some death metal riffs (that are played in a black metal style) while otherwise being 100% black metal doesn't make an album "not black metal". 4/5, made me write a proper reply.
its death metal dressed up as BM
we love sumeriancore here idiot
And Venom is speed metal dressed up as BM
Bathory is thrash dressed up as BM
Burzum is atmoshit dressed up as BM
Dissection is melodeath dressed up as BM
what the fuck is your point? Black metal has never been exclusively raw Norwegian early-mid 90s era black metal

No we don't
this really hasn't aged well
End of the Line's pretty good though
Same here, though his language sounds funny.
it's mediocre, I really don't care why fans pretend it's decent.

If I was a member of Blood Incantation would I tell you to download our record for free on realmofmetal?
heh.... Dream Theater...
Yes, you would.

Trying to get more up on my Progressive Metal, beyond Porcupine Tree and Opeth. Unfortunately the RYM chart for the genre is horrible.
Someone reccommend me some stuff please. Anything goes as long as its its not wanky proge
I can tell you this, Pure Prog Metal is garbage.
Progressive "insert subgenre here" is much better.
I suppose that's true.
what are some good progressive [genre]-metal bands then
