How do you know the album cover isn't personal to the person getting the tattoo? I'm planning on getting a tattoo of the album that got me really into music. And even if I end up not liking the band years from now, there's still some memory and meaning attached to that

I don't understand how an album cover, which exists outside of the individual in question, can be 'personal' to them. An album cover is supposed to properly convey the contents of the album for a consumer, so you'd have to personally consider your entire being identical to the contents of the album in question to make that statement true. That's pretty pretentious, really.

Like, everyone should just do what they want and be who they want, but the forced justifications like "this is who I am" or "this is really personal to me" are garbage wank. If you get an album cover tattooed on your person it is solely to try to show off to people that you like an album. It makes far more sense to just buy a t-shirt, but whatever.
If you actually personally know how to illustrate and incorporate parts of an album cover into something for the sake of communicating something as part of a larger image then that's a different story.
