Billy Joel Thread

I never see Billy Joel talked about on here.
What does Cred Forums think of him?

Singles are ok. Works too much with nostalgia though and "muh barbershop quartet". Very easy to get sick of.

ABSOLUTE MAD MAN

What's with millennial's obsession against nostalgia?

WHY SHOULD I WORRY

shit. listen to one be lo instead

I'm guessing the 'barbershop quartet' refers to the song "The Longest Time"?

I've heard his music so much that it's become massively annoying.

nostalgia is a weakness

I fucking love nostalgia but I also fucking hate people using it. Once in a while is ok but at least these days it's getting annoying. Reboot after sequel after rehash after blablabla
"Uptown Girls" is pretty much the same. "Piano Man" goes after the ol' cavern piano player feel. Maybe I haven't listened to enough of his stuff but I don't really "love" his work that I've heard.

I'M MOVING OUT

AND WE WERE SHARP

AS SHARP AS KNIVES KNIVES KNIVES KNIVES KNIVES

Buddy I have one song of his that's AMAZING. It's my favorite Billy Joel song. No doo-wop or Nostalgia at all.

SHORT PEOPLE GOT NO REASON

Pft. That's CLEARLY an Elton John song, silly.

We are doomed to repeated the mistakes of the past unless we remember them
The do-wap was just one specific era, like one album our of 50
>"Piano Man" goes after the ol' cavern piano player feel
Well, he was one you dummy

I like listening to piano man drunk

where do I go from this

I'd guess the rest of the Piano Man album

It was alright but Idk, didn't really blow my mind. This time he's just singing about nostalgia for orchestras.
>And I appreciate
>The roles the actors played
>The point the author made
>And after the closing lines
And after the curtain calls
>The curtain falls
>On empty chairs
>Where's the orchestra?
Still feels like the same message of different subjects using pretty much the same instruments (sad piano etc.). Feels a bit repetitive.
Oh I didn't know that. Still as a musician I can respect him, working his way up, but in the end his work still doesn't drive me crazy.

>This time he's just singing about nostalgia for orchestras.
You don't know what a metaphor is?
>pretty much the same instruments (sad piano etc.). Feels a bit repetitive.
What's wrong with that? Not everything has to be new.
>Still as a musician
How long have you been studying music theory?

Darn. Well I tried. Glad you at least gave it a chance.

I don't even think it has the same instruments. He never usually has a full orchestra back his songs. That was half of the point. That's part of the reason it's my favorite B.J. song.

I like him, so shoot me.

Scenes From An Italian Restaurant still chokes me up.
My Life is pretty profound and was empowering when I moved out of my shitty hometown
I will sing Piano Man if I'm drunk in a bar.

...

Thanks. Just not my thing I suppose.
>You don't know what a metaphor is?
He's comparing his life to a musical. Feels bad about not experiencing the thrill he was hoping for. He's still referencing movies and musicals but I just don't really care.
>What's wrong with that? Not everything has to be new.
True but it's still so easy to get sick of listening to the same stuff really. I mean it's good that he stuck to his strengths instead of selling out or making trashy radio pop but in the end it's still the same thing for decades.
>How long have you been studying music theory?
Wrote that wrong. I mean "as HIM being a musician, working up..." I do know some music theory actually, been probably 8 years but I just don't like his stuff that much.

>WELL WE ALL FALL IN LOVE
>BUT WE DISREGARD THE DANGER

Billy Joel has a lot of great songs but his only great album is the Stranger, which is why Cred Forums doesn't talk about him.

He's essential momcore though.

>his only great album is the Stranger
You sure?

>The King and the Queen went back to the green, but you can never go back there again, ohhhh-

Probably one of the most truthful, nostalgic and saddening lyrics ever written.

>Brand New wishes they could write like Billy.

I feel sorry that you can't enjoy the simple things in life.
