Been playing for about 2 months, friend who got me into it wants to start playing post-rock Anyone got any tips on how to write bass for post-rock?
Benjamin Gonzalez
The guitar is for faggots.
Christopher Johnson
...
Hudson Green
write the most boring shit imaginable and play it through 4 delay pedals
bam now you're post rock
Nathan Gomez
...
Camden Cox
...
Zachary Rivera
I can do that, I don't care what I need to play as long as it sounds good Any recs for delay pedals?
Jayden Barnes
It's literally the only good musical instrument in existence.
Grayson Watson
Any Boss Digital Delay or the MXR Carbon Copy
if you feel like a fancy ass nigga get an Earthquaker Dispatch Master or Ghost Echo or a Old Blood Noise Black Fountain
Juan Bailey
...
Jayden Butler
...
Wyatt Young
Thank you my friend
Jacob Reed
ah the glue was a good idea. heres a pic from my assembly. i'm 'fraid i cant show you the hole with the pots 'cause people would seriously spazz out here, like full on epilepsy style. im just glad i got it in there at all.
Owen Wood
Don't do that stupid shit, just clean it up and and play it. Once a guitar is that old just leave it alone unless you need to do something for it to play right.
Brayden Campbell
can we have one non-Cred Forums /gg/?
Joshua Hughes
reee go back to wherever the fuck you came from normie shitstain
Jeremiah Howard
Theres a good deal about a G&L L2500 tribute bass. Thinking about trading it for my jazzbass mim (plus 150 bucks). Should I??
Bentley Mitchell
M8 have you seen the OP?
Julian Cruz
Hey /gg/ is getting a MIA Fender worth it over a MIM Fender?
Andrew Brooks
yes
Leo Jones
Anyone have any experience with the Seymour Duncan Invaders? I've always been intrigued by them but haven't played one in person. I'm thinking I might buy them for my Ibanez RG
Benjamin Harris
Technically I guess I have to say yes because there's a big difference in quality, but really MIMs are shit for $600 guitars and MIA are shit for $1000+ guitars.
Blake Diaz
The artec knockoffs are just as good, save yourself some cash.
John Lopez
>be 24 >be shitposting on Cred Forums >cheap epiphone sitting in the corner of room >really want to put time aside to practice >realize that you're probably too old to have a band and will most definitely will be by the time you eventually git gud >return to shitposting on Cred Forums
Anyways how're you all doing
Liam White
I put it on my squier john 5 tele (only the bridge). The thing is the tele doesnt have any tone pot, only volume pot and its 250 kOhms, not the 500 kOhms they were designed for, its sounds kinda dark but i dont know if its because of that. I dig it as i always cut the highs for high gain anyway. It isnt that good for cleans, just ok. For distortion is good but there are better passives for high gain out there, i bought it because it was a good deal.
Luke Walker
>19 y/o >been playing guitar for 3 years >write my own music >wants to play publicly >have literally no friends in the state I live in >nobody I ever get together with wants to play my music because it's "too weird" The fuck do I do?
Nathan Reed
>24 >shitposting >played for 14 years >not anywhere as good as I should be >know very little theory >want to play metal but can't shred >beginning to let the dream die and just become IT guy
Elijah Hughes
Here's a story about today >friend of a friend eavesdrops on my plans to record some guitar tracks >he offers to record the guitar >cool. head over there and on the way I get a text saying, "don't bring your amp. only pedals and guitar." >oh god >dude uses an m-audio interface and emulates amps through some shitty recording program >speakers are a flat screen tv that have so much lag between what I play and what comes out the speakers >dude presses record and leaves the room >scrap that whole shit and just practice for an hour and muted the tv >could have done better at home by myself at least I got to dab for free but what a waste of time
Chase Rivera
You can do it, boi
Nathaniel Peterson
move or this will happen
Connor Cooper
lmfao I'm going back to college this january after my dream died at 24 too. Just give up and be a normie. I'm actually happy now playing in a non-technically demanding pop band
Dominic Cruz
>"too weird" what do you play, bruh?
Grayson Stewart
This has to be one of the most simple and close minded things I've ever heard
Josiah Johnson
>22 >in a small pop/rock band >sometimes we make ok songs >for the most part the other 3 members (or even sometimes just the 1 guitarist) agree on making a shit song >or fuck up an ok song by changing it for the worse >realised quite a while ago that we're never gonna ever fucking get anywhere >been sort of looking for some different kind of band for a while >running out of time 'cause im trying to get the fuck out of this place >only perk is that i can use the place as a personal recording space for my weird shit that i dont bother trying to push on them (would never work anyway)
any chance of a clip?
Nolan Martinez
dont get the black fountain. its just a meme pedal
Andrew Flores
I'm 26, just finished my career a year ago and have only ever played in one band, still going strong and I don't care if it ends up being a weekend thing with my buddies cause of my work, but I'll be damned if I'm not recording something and playing live soem day
Grayson Hernandez
Already know I need to but I'm poor as fuck. I'm no good with genres but here goes. Something like, experimental psychedelic folk rock. It's really the lyrics they've objected to I'd like to quickly record something right now but it's 12:52 A.M. and my roommates a cunt.
Easton Sanchez
Been playing ~6 years.
Fender Telecaster with '59 custom shop pickups, white pickguard and dark blue wood-grain body, gold hardware has always been my dream. I just need a few grand to buy one and kit it out with above parts.
SRV, B.B King, John Lee Hooker, Clapton, Joe Bonamasa, John Mayer, etc
For projects, said afore-mentioned Telecaster, one day. Also looking to record music, just need a bass but already have keys and drums. Solo band cuz I can do whatever I like, whenever I like, but I jam with local people every now and then.
Anyone have a decent 12 string acoustic (or acoustic electric) they can recommend? Beside the tele and blues artists I LOVE fingerstyle, looking for a decent 12.
Anthony Reed
>I'd like to quickly record something right now but it's 12:52 A.M. and my roommates a cunt. hah, it's alright, if you want to you can record later and link and i'll check it
Landon Campbell
Any opinions on the Orange Micro Terror amps? I think about getting the normal one along a Framus 1x12 cabinet.
Adam Torres
is this aluminum foil?
this will do essentially nothing but block out light dimmer buzz(not a real problem most likely) unless you ground it, and have fun grounding it
just spend the 5 bucks or whatever for real shielding tape from stewmac
Jacob Murphy
sounds amazing but it's really fragile to take on the road
Connor Ramirez
Aluminum foil is actually a better shield than copper that many guitar sites sell. The reason it is uncommon is that it is a huge pain to work with and costs more in labor to install than copper tape or conductive paint.
Chase Campbell
they don't shield against the same things, so you will do a layer of copper anyway
it doesn't matter if you're a bedroom player though
Kayden Robinson
Will do.
Brody Richardson
>they don't shield against the same things Really?
Jonathan Morales
>How long have you been playing? Been playing 9 years now, taking jazz/contemporary guitar in college currently

>Projects? Not really, when I have time and inspiration I'll make something
David Stewart
>taking a meme amp on the road lol
Austin Gray
they shield against different outside frequencies, i should say
they will both be alright for cycle hum but that's not the main reason most people shield their backplates
Henry Kelly
Thanks for the input! 15-20 watts is cool as hecl.

Do you have any more info or links on this? I've never heard of this, and my understanding of Faraday cages is rudimentary.

Any good beginner songs that primarily use arpeggiated chords? Trying to improve my rhythm guitar technique.

get an Orange, Matamp or Sunn amp.
overdrive it
get a fuzz pedal
down tune
you'll probably need a guitar that's less trebly than a Tele
Jordan Peterson
I wouldn't call it "good," but creep has some of that.
Henry Cooper
Radiohead basically. Weird fishes isn't that difficult you just have to be able to keep time.

As the cub's warm breath meets his mother's breast She slowly lays herself down to rest. He sucks blood out of her decaying tit Grows up full of iron and grit
His fur feels like cold steel And his heart pumps acid to his brain He makes the innocent his meal He drinks the marrow of the slain
Burn my corpse Burn my soul Burn my mind (X2)
With his rotted mother between his jaws And clumps of blonde hair between his claws He speaks to no one in particular Except his starving prisoners
"You are the weak that deserve to die, to be consumed and to be enslaved, Accept that you cannot be saved" To which they in unison reply
Burn my corpse Burn my soul Burn my mind (X however many times I feel like)
(Constructive criticism welcome.)
Luis Rivera
...
Andrew Young
This is really good for what it is. "He speaks to no one in particular - except his starving prisoners," is a bit forced, but seeing as it's a song and I don't know how it'll be delivered I don't think it's too bad.
The starving prisoners bit is nice though. Maybe something like :
He gives a sermon to his prisoners A song of rage, he gave these words
You can replace "rage" with whatever you want though, a lot works there. I guess I lost the word starving there but it's an example of how you could restructure that.
Luis Taylor
this familiar stench fills the room spills out from your mouth and lingers in the air your piercing gaze reminds me of what once was the bitter taste of your tongue the bitter taste of your lies deceit comes easy for you and you come easy for deceit
Landon Allen
Everybody Hurts
Jason Rogers
More than fair. Danke, gives me something to think about.
Daniel Parker
This one's not great to be frank. I think you should either cut down the idea you want to communicate, or expand the details you use to describe it. The song is rushed. While abstraction is good it's important to give the story in full. Here we jump into the regret without even so much as the suggestion that the speaker was in a relationship before they began to hate the other character.
tl;dr we need context
Caleb Robinson
how do I meet people to play with? I'm pretty confident in my rhythm skills I know theory and can write chord progressions I just don't have any musician friends where did you meet your jam mates? Im 18 if that matters
Jayden Adams
just keep reading and writing
surprisingly, absorbing more classic works like poetry from the romantic era will really improve your writing. there is a lot to be learned about cadence, rhythm and phonetics from those guys
Charles Butler
school, work, forums (like this!), wanted ads, friends of friends
I find that looking for people at shows works best, they're always on the front rows looking at the pedalboards and shit and they already like the band you went to see so
Jayden Lee
Is it possible to fit the whole truss rod inside my anus?
Jason Morales
if youre still in high school check out your jazz band's rhythm section. ask around your classmates, hang out at local open mic nights, keep honing your chops.
if you go to university next year you will meet a ton of musicians. just have to look for them
Hudson Watson
No, but it would be extremely painful
Luke White
Thanks for the advice. I do read a lot of poetry, but I could always read more. I think it's hard for me to form a song when it's near impossible for me to workshop with other musicians at all, let alone live.
Brayden Baker
for you
Ethan Reed
An average truss rod is 16.5 inches. You tell me.
Easton Green
>I do read a lot of poetry i hate to tell you this but you're already done for faм. srry
Robert King
edgy as fuck desu
Xavier Bell
baka desu senpai
Joshua Bennett
Yeah, I figured I'd rather be called edgy, than a pussy, not that the two are that different. Thanks for the critique. Much appreciated.
Brody Gray
agreed. i just wrote it, thanks.
Jacob Walker
How do I find people to play with? Everyone I meet at concerts are pretentious assholes
Jacob Bennett
OK /gg/ my band mate has a problem. He just bought a traynor yba 200 (200 watt tube bass head. I think the power section is 4 kt88's) and sounds pretty good but it's not nearly loud enough. I play a 60w 6505 (2x12 version) and had to turn down to from my usual volume (8ish on the post gain) to 4 and I still couldn't hear him.
So what's the deal? Is there something wrong with the amp or is 200 watts just not enough to keep up? For reference he's played through his (now dead) 300w ampeg portable head and my pos hartke vx3500 head (350w solid state) and has never had a volume issue before.
Isaac Lee
Everyone is a pretentious asshole. If you want good bandmates (as in good people), they will most certainly have shit taste. If you want taste and experimenting, you have to deal with snobbish pretentious hipster fucks. That's the reality.
Jaxson Hughes
You should buy more preamps and connect it but only if the ohms are equal.
Zachary Sanders
OK chief. Thanks for the (you).
Anyone with a real answer?
Brayden Ortiz
I don't care if we play the more generic music in the world. I just want someone to play with. Where do I find this basic people with shit taste?
Asher Hill
Some of the best bands were full of knobs who hated each other. I think the elephant 6 were probably the only set of great musicians who didn't want to kill each other.
If you're not in hs/college/don't hang out anywhere, I'd say local guitar forum is the best bet. There's one everywhere in the world. Show your playing, someone will be interested
Adam Wright
That's pretty good actually
Grayson Sanders

YOO /gg/
I had a question about my guitar pickups. I have a Fender Shitocaster straight from tacoland
Its got some shitty pickups on it right? What should i swap em with? Also, when i put it under a blacklight i can see the decals i removed ages ago how do i get them off forever theyre so annoying aaaa
Brody Stewart
Define what makes a good bass player?

Nicholas Bailey
Sorry, I could've helped you if I was here earlier.
If you don't like the sound then swap them.
what kind of sound are you looking for anyway? Check SSLs or the california series
It can go from RHCP to Malmsteen, Pink floyd to doom metal when the tone knob's rolled off.
Benjamin Turner
These things take time, have a little patience. Maybe the pickups are shit, but do they sound good to you?
Sebastian Hall
Got an electric a couple of months ago, and I'm starting to consider getting some pedals. Anyone got any suggestions on some decent and fun inexpensive pedals to get? I guess they're probably going to be the common starter ones like a chorus, overdrive, and maybe a phase or something.
Justin Wright
Newb here. Whats this one called?
Sebastian Thompson
bending
Aiden Long
>common starter ones like a chorus, overdrive, and maybe a phase or something. Anything as long as it's in your budget. Don't get ones you don't intend to use at all.
Levi Roberts
>speakers are a flat screen tv >dude presses record and leaves the room
I know a couple dudes like this. They talk so confidently about themselves being great mix engineers and flaunt it on social media and shit, but they're just straight up trash. It's a great source of keks
Luis Johnson
Yeah. Why's everyone so full of shit? I hate that.
Jose Cox
Angels & Airwaves is pretty comfy, but the solo sounds shit on the vox ac30 amp.
Liam Howard
how do I form a band?
Joseph Evans
Meet Scott Raynor at the battle of the bands at your school, then meet Anne Hoppus before meeting her brother Mark Hoppus. Then start writing Carousel
Joshua Morales
dont at first. do everything yourself, and then form a touring band using craigslst
Levi Jones
Practice relentlessly for years and then become a solo artist.
Noah Reyes
>bandmate says how he found a nice deal on some pedal but ended up not buying it >ask him why >"eeeehhh it didnt come with the box"

Some of the first songs I learned were: In the aeroplane over the sea Dave bixby - Drug song Agalloch - A celebration for the death of man Slint - Nosferatu man, breadcrumb trail.
Anthony Nelson
I got this used for $400. Solid instrument.
Carson Bell
I just trashed my 40 bucks guitar and brought a yahamo, but after tuning it is sounds good but after a while it sounds off and I when I check tuner I have to tone it again. I had it for 1 day and already have to tune it 4 times
Is this normal on new guitars?
Juan Thomas
It is normal every time you put on new strings.
Jeremiah Stewart
hahaha thats just sad
Ayden Campbell
>mfw guitar makes it home today Now just just have to wait 6 days to get back home myself
Parker Wood
Whhooops :/
Cameron Diaz
I'm not even sure if these posts are ironic, cause I'm trying to do the same thing.
I can't meet any people, so I'll just write an album and tour with some studio musicians or something.
Jeremiah Rogers
R8 my Irish ballad please fellas. Guitar playing was pretty simple, not so easy to hit the low notes when singing though.
I bought a Boss Metal Zone a long time ago. Then I bought a Boss compressor. Now I look at my pedalboard and think what was I thinking?
Juan Rivera
I suggested solo-artist and I'm serious. It is a smarter choice in my opinion compared to investing time into Band related things which wont lead to anything. If you are touring and meeting other musicians maybe you will find people with which you actually want to do a project and thats fine.
I also think a good guitar player is wasted in a band where he just plays some chords for a singer who takes 80% of the spotlight.
I can hear a kind of chorus pedal and there's probably some reverb, but I'm obsessed with this sound and I lack the experience to tell what's going on.
Also on side note: would a Jazzmaster be versatile enough to cover these post-rock/mellow/jagged distortion sounds, I only have a budget Epiphone Les Paul and I don't know if the cleans could ever sound right/ or decent.
Nathan Reyes
The Boss compressor is great though
Christian James
Good backup
Connor Williams
People like that expect to get paid Do you have anxiety in social situations?
Hang out at places that you might meet band members -- record stores, local shows, instrument stores. Put up adds. It's not that hard.
Gabriel Gomez
Does your toan fedora help with that son?
Carter Brown
>>realize that you're probably too old to have a band and will most definitely will be by the time You're a fucking moron
Gavin Nelson
>ES330 with no neck pickup why would they do that????? if anything is the pickup you should keep.
Connor Lee
Any opinions on the Fender Blacktop Stratocaster? Found one pretty cheap nearby. Any experiences with it?
Joseph Kelly
probably the only blacktop instrument I like
but I'm a sucked for HH strats and chrome covers so.
Brayden Cook
Fluff from YouTube just formed a band Rest, Repose. He's in his late thirties by now and it's his first very serious act in 15 or so years.
If he can do it, so can you. Just work your ass off, train yourself, find like - minded people and do it. Do it cause it's fun. Do it to succeed if you wish. You won't make a living out of this, but hell, pulling off an album and a tour isn't so hard these days.
Michael Sullivan
It's pretty cool. I think the guy from Nothing plays one.
Nolan James
hey /gg/, have you guys ever painted your guitars?
I got a cheap tele the other day but it's ugly af
Juan Hughes
Just started learning the barre chords and the one i started with was f major, the thing is the chord sounds crappy, its like a mix of failed muting and a bit of buzz, sorry if i explained things bad, should i press the strings harder? i press close to the string bar so i think it shouldn´t make this buzz also any general tips for barre chords and finger placement? Thank you.
John Parker
Keep doing it, your bitch hands will get stronger
Leo Roberts
>realize that you're probably too old to have a band and will most definitely will be by the time you eventually git gud There are people in their 60s who pick up instruments and form bands. You don't need to "git gud" to form a band, as long as you're semi-passable you can find like minded people, form a band and have fun.
Wyatt Scott
It hurts a bit but i can manage the pain easily, so you are saying if my skin gets thicker the sound will be better?
One of the first pedals I ever bought and I still use it. Gets the job done
Lucas Stewart
thanks a lot
Isaiah Stewart
Start with the same chord further up the neck and work your way down. Should be a bit easier.
Jason Mitchell
Gut reaction was "yes, absolutely" Logic came in and said "maybe"
Nicholas Hill
7421 are nice but I'd rather get a 26.5" Schecter, just so the B's less thick and sounds better when you're below A. Quality wise they felt the same, they're built in the same country and probably the same factory. Supposedly if you can ever find a used 7620/7621 you'll get a much better quality (they're MiJ as opposed to MiI), but I've never seen any in my area.
Slap the strings like a bassist, that'll stretch them right.
basic, super subtle overdrive. reverb is barely noticeable. you're getting that feeling from the piano overdubs. any fucking guitar with single coils will get you that tone, I can get that out of my piece of shit HSH GIO and 300$ amp. If you're feeling adventurous you can even try winding a shoddy single coil the width of a humbucker
he sounds like a douche but he's not a bad teacher, iirc his video on sweep picking is one of the rare lessons where you can hear about muting with the left hand, which is crucial to the technique yet omitted by most.
David Johnson
Depends if you want the sounds of humbuckers and an active preamp. I like single coils and I don't need an active preamp so I like my mim jazz bass. I would say just hang onto your jazz bass and get a G&L bass in the future. With a bit of patience you can get a US L2000/L2500 bass for a fair price. Then you can use your jazz bass for gigging and your G&L one for recording. But I don't want to put you off buying it, just giving my opinion.
Grayson Campbell
i have one. pretty great guitar for the price, the split coil and humbcker settings make it really versatile though accidentally switching pickups (which happens very often to me on strats) can change your output and fuck up a performance or recording
Julian Cruz
It shouldn't hurt. Take it easy, don't overwork your baby muscles and watch some videos on posture if you're learning without a teacher. It might sound overzealous, but doing it wrong can fuck your hands up forever.
Gavin Lopez
strings might need to tighten around the tuners more (they don't stretch)
or it has shitty cheap tuners
Isaiah Bennett
I always stretch a new set of strings after restringing. There are many ways to go around it and you'll find them all if you just google about it, there's even some overpriced device that claims to do it faster and better. The way I go around it personally is tune the guitar, then do a lot of bends along the length of each string, rinse and repeat. After retuning for the first time most strings will be able to hold tune pretty decently.
Hunter King
Get a ticket to LA. I will pick you up and from there we practice, mah nigga.
Hudson Morris
save your weird shit for a solo project. put up a detailed and specific musicians classifieds ad and write with other people. It will help your writing so much.
Tyler Russell
>tfw you see a picture and your mind instantly designs an expensive custom guitar you're not gonna be able to afford for a while
Not good. I'm gonna be yearning for my slide-optimized Thinline for many years.
Jack Reyes
>slide-optimized Thinline nigga slide guitars are easy as shit to do, no fretwork, no wondering about thick necks, tele bodies are the simplest guitar bodies what do you want, diamond encrusted knobs and an ass-skin pickguard ?
William Watson
>tfw no qt Fender Jazz Bass in lake placid blue w/ red tortoiseshell pickguard, BadAss II Bridge and white blocks + binding rosewood neck
fug sometimes I wish I were rich man.
Ryan Robinson
It's not that the guitar would be particularly expensive (all the parts add up to around $1200), it's that the guitar is designed for a very specific purpose, meaning that there are many other more versatile instruments that take priority.
It's in the pool with four Les Pauls, four Charvel Strats, three SGs, two other Teles, a Jazzmaster, a JazzCaster, a Jaguar, a Mustang, an EDS-1275 and a Kramer 5150.
Christopher Morales
What state are you in?
Austin Powell
>(all the parts add up to around $1200) so yeah, you're buying useless shit. you can make a slide guitar out of any working guitar, even a fucking 20$ first act will work, you just raise the action at the bridge to its maximum, get a taller nut, and there you go, here's a slide guitar. Add in some good pickups and bam, you've got a great slide guitar for dirt cheap.
Alexander Edwards
Milwaukee
Daniel Roberts
I don't want some off-the-rack cracker ass guitar that will work just fine, I want a NICE guitar designed with a purpose and aesthetic in mind.
It's about the object itself, not the sound it makes.
Jose Russell
Thanks familias
Daniel Perry
>I want to spend a thousand dollar on a voluntarily flawed guitar with a mile high action do as you wish, it's your money, just know that there are alternatives that'll give you the exact same result, for cheaper.
Brandon Stewart
what does that base knob on EQD bit commander exactly mean?
Cooper Bennett
>alternatives that'll give you the exact same result, for cheaper. By that logic, there would be no $1000 at all, would there?
Alexander Edwards
controls the square wave, the synth sound
Angel Butler
>it's really fragile to take on the road it's literally the same size and weight as a brick of milk, you have to be drunk to mishandle it and break it. just don't leave it into the back of your car
Mason Mitchell
>pricier means better t. gullible consumer
John Cooper
Is turning it clockwise to add more square wave input into circuit?I felt like it's like a distortion/fuzz.I am not sure if bit commander is a octave fuzz.
Jose Brooks
>the exact same result
They won't though, because they won't look or be built like the guitar I want.
Christopher Cooper
College is the easiest way imo
Caleb Lee
>be built dude it's a slide guitar, you can make one out of concrete and there'll be almost no difference from a regular slide guitar.
Jack Smith
it will definitely get a bit "fuzzy" yeah
it's not an octave fuzz, it's an octave synth rather
Mason Jenkins
>be in college >no one plays guitar except some guys who wonderwall all day on ekustic
Jaxon Robinson
Unbelievable.
You still don't give my point.
Cap for emphasis:
I CARE ABOUT THE ACTUAL FUCKING OBJECT THAT IS THE GUITAR.
I'M NOT LOOKING FOR A BARGAIN SLIDE GUITAR.
TONE AND PLAYABILITY ARE NOT THE GOAL HERE.
THE GOAL IS THE OBJECT ITSELF.

BEst quality ampp with quality reverb under 400 or 300? I had been looking at a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe but idk

Michael Watson
>being this much of a corporate shill
I bet you can't even play.
Elijah Hughes
really? it seems kind of excessive to spend more than 500 for an amp imo... what model you consider i should save more to get to? just curious
William Robinson
Thank you man.Is bit commander's three octave knobs increasing overall outputl volume when cranked up?I have to put volume knob down to keep it balanced when kicked in.Maybe it's the pedal itself boosting the volume.I don't know.
Jason Thomas
Fender Twin
Jacob Perry

You can probably find a used Blues Jr. in that price range
Jaxon Roberts
Yup, accurate description there. The only guy in my dorm that plays guitar I know of plays basic stuff with his (girl?)friend; and there seems to be only two guitarists (one is suspected to be a guitarist, the other was seen with a guitar) in my classes of around 300 people
buying a twin's a bad idea if you don't need its deafening volume.
Joshua Campbell
do you have a cab already?if you don't get a combo like meme blues jr. You don't really need to buy a Hot Rod Deluxe if you don't need be loud and clean. If you have a cab, maybe you have more choices. Those new bluesbreaker 007 and 015 are both awesome. You can get a reverb pedal for 007 combo,it's more usable imo.
Jack Bell
>spending $1,2k on raw materials >for a slide version of the most basic guitar in existence fucking unbeliveable what are you going to buy, authentic unused vintage 1959 fretwire ? oil the fretboard with kim jong un's fat ?
Sebastian Howard
Yeah but i'm quite broke, so i split my budget into a new guitar and a decent amp to replace my actual crappy amp...
I wish i had a Fender Twin, even more
thanks for the suggestion I don't have a cab, sadly and well, i don't really need to be loud and clean at home but i'll use it for gigs too, so...
I'll look at the bluesbreakers. It's just that pedals just have me looking at too many of them and i end up wanting everything. Plus a decent reverb is already 200+
Jayden Brown
Some user here told another user to use shimverb @ church to get panties wet so I tried it and got talking to a qt and now I have a gf
ty user
Gabriel Phillips
You could spend literally $100 on a guitar and it'd be fine as a slide guitar. You don't want a high quality guitar, you want a (shitty) status symbol.
David Diaz
>gf Normie.
Parker Sullivan
>25 >grad student >been playing guitar for about 10 years >played a lot this summer, got gud >haven't picked up a guitar in over a month
Fuck me, I literally haven't done anything other than work and homework since I started grad school. How do I balance this shit?
Noah Cox
You should also go play shimverb at a church it's b8 for cute grils user maybe you can have a gf too
Joseph Nelson
No thanks, i'd autism them all away.
Isaiah Wright
good reverb is like $150+ like polara, supernatural, dispatch master is good if you want a delay.Reverb pedals are more usable, you need a good delay/reverb in gig to make your sound fuller anyway.
So my advice is bassbreaker 15combo or DSL015 combo,or maybe a AC15.That silver blues junior is really a fair deal, and it won't be bad.Maybe you don't like its sound.Tweed blues Jr. is bit nicer.Blues cube is actually good for using.
Zachary Cook
I'm in the same kind of situation, since i've started college I feel way too tired to play
enjoy having a son because she doesn't take the pill and won't abort because she's a good christian. you've just passed the half way to being a true blues lawyer
John Roberts
Do you want a parts breakdown?
It's over $500 for the body (Swamp Ash Thinline in Mary Kay white). Close to $250 for the neck (maple with dark rosewood and 16" radius), $120 for the pickups, $25 for the pickguard, $40 for the bridge, $40 for the tuners, $40 for the wiring kit, $45 for the rest of the hardware and probably $100 in shipping.
>You could spend literally $100 on a guitar and it'd be fine as a slide guitar
I don't want just "fine."
>You don't want a high quality guitar
Yes I do.
I don't know why you people struggle so much with people who want something nicer than a Rondo knockoff.
Cameron Torres
>Yes I do
No you don't, you even said you didn't care about the playability. If it plays like shit and looks nice, it's a nice looking piece of wood and a shitty guitar.
Joseph Morris
>buying spare parts and playing legos >building
Aaron Brooks
>blooze lawyers
Angel Harris
That's not building, that's assembling prebuilt parts.
Cooper Robinson
Anyone have tried any delays by Moog? Would you recommend it/ better alternatives / discourage buying it / etc.?
I''d use it for my guitar and my keyboards mainly so i'd give it kind of double its use... idk i've had so many frustrations with delays...
basically your dream gear would get you into doom, man (plus the fuzz and all you have)
Thomas Cox
>you even said you didn't care about the playability
Well obviously I care about playability but you don't spend $1200 on an instrument because it plays better. You can buy a budget Agile and get all the tone and playability you want for $200. If all I was after was playability then I wouldn't buy an expensive instrument.
You said yourself that there is a low bar for playability when it comes to slide anyway so it's a moot point.
>Arguing semantics
Oliver Perez
>It's over $500 for the body (Swamp Ash Thinline in Mary Kay white). even for a thinline that's too much >Close to $250 for the neck (maple with dark rosewood and 16" radius), you're paying $250 for something that your hands will barely touch, and for a radius you could set yourself because it's a slide guitar. nice job again. >$120 for the pickups, probably the only reasonable part of the whole thing >$25 for the pickguard, even for a metal pickguard that's too much >$40 for the bridge, Oh. because you need pinpoint accuracy for slide playing right. how could I forget that >$40 for the tuners, so you're ready to spend half a grand on planks of wood, but not even 100$ to get the actual part that plays one of the most important role in tuning stability ? >$40 for the wiring kit, >$45 for the rest of the hardware I hope you're buying a preamp, because 100$ for just two knobs and a switch is more than a ripoff, it's a scam. >and probably $100 in shipping.
Asher Foster
Moog pedals are always real good quality I don't see why their delay would be any different.
But honest you should try out as many different delays as you can before buying.
Hunter Baker
You don't need the absolute highest of quality for playing slide, $1200 on a for guitar is stupid. I spend $600 on my guitar and it looks great and plays great.
>implying you're actually building a guitar
You're not, you're paying for prebuilt parts that you'll probably assemble poorly.
Xavier Butler
Having a controllable feedback with an expression pedal seems fun but it doesn't seem to have any kind of tap tempo, which in my opinion kinda defeats the whole purpose.
Christian Allen
>40$ for tuners
wow dude nice call us when your dream guitar cant even hold its tuning
Robert Martin
Hi I have a noob question I hope they're allowed here, I recently bought a 3/4 stratocaster knockoff secondhand because I wanted something quieter than my acoustic, but the machine heads aren't great and I want to replace them. However they're arranged on a single metal strip at the back and I can't find any replacements online. They look like pic related but with 6 instead of 3. Is there a name for this or is my guitar just weird as fuck?
Chase Edwards
>even for a thinline that's too much
That's just the quote in Warmoth's builder. If I found the body in the Showcase it would be cheaper. If I finished it myself it would be even cheaper than that, around $350.
>you're paying $250 for something that your hands will barely touch
I haven't mentioned it yet but I also want to play some rhythm on it.
>even for a metal pickguard that's too much
Find me a cheaper one then.
>Oh. because you need pinpoint accuracy for slide playing right
It's just a compensated three saddle ashtray bridge.
>not even 100$ to get the actual part that plays one of the most important role in tuning stability ?
Oh. because you need pinpoint accuracy for slide playing right?
>100$ for just two knobs and a switch is more than a ripoff, it's a scam.
Knobs, switch, pots, cap, wire, jack, jack socket, neck plate, control plate, screws, strap buttons and some other shit.
>You don't need the absolute highest of quality for playing slide >Need
Need had absolutely nothing to do with this.
>I spend $600 on my guitar and it looks great and plays great.
Good for you.
Find me one with the specs I want and I'll suck your cock.
Kayden Nelson
Around my city there's no pedal stores (and guitar shops are really expensive plus have no pedals) except pawn shops where you can't try anything so that's not an option, really. I wish it was tho, it's annoying having to buy online for this. Yeah but i don't think the tempo matters much t b h, it would make it better but it's not a deal breaker for me . Thanks!
William Russell
>staying in tune doesn't matter if you're playing slide
You don't play.
Christian Ross
>I haven't mentioned it yet but I also want to play some rhythm on it.
Hudson Turner
The slide barely touches the strings, they aren't going out of tune.
Cameron Young
do you even play or is something you're going to hang up on on the wall?
Ian Allen
>Well obviously I care about playability
But you said
>TONE AND PLAYABILITY ARE NOT THE GOAL HERE. and >It's about the object itself, not the sound it makes.
Zachary Perez
Why do I get the feeling I'm getting samefagged...
Kevin Wilson
Yes, because as I said here:
>If all I was after was playability then I wouldn't buy an expensive instrument.
I want a guitar that looks nice. That I want it to play and sound nice should be taken as a given.
Levi Adams

>That's just the quote in Warmoth's builder. If I found the body in the Showcase it would be cheaper. If I finished it myself it would be even cheaper than that, around $350. wew lad god forbid you actually work when BUILDING a guitar right
>I haven't mentioned it yet but I also want to play some rhythm on it. so not just you want to overpay for a slide guitar but you want it to double as a shitty rhythm guitar ? nice
>It's just a compensated three saddle ashtray bridge. so you're paying extra to get a BAD adjustable bridge ?
>>not even 100$ to get the actual part that plays one of the most important role in tuning stability ?
>Oh. because you need pinpoint accuracy for slide playing right?
You need your open string to be in tune dimwit. Intonation is not a problem because you don't use the frets on a slide guitar, which is what the bridge's adjustable saddles are for. How can you pretend to build guitars and not even know that
>The slide barely touches the strings, they aren't going out of tune. dynamics come in play too. and that's not even mentioning the reliability of the mechanism itself, you have a small, 1cm square part that has to support 15-ish lbs of tension, you can't skip out on that.
Connor Perry
don't just buy timeline or some other shit from strymon, they are cheaper and more usable
Gavin Ramirez
>won't abort

Anybody discover any great songs lately that you can't stop playing?
nope, i'm starting to consider buying a thicker set and downtuning to B or whatver so I can practice some mindless brutal/technical death metal like Dying fetus or whatever retarded shit with sweep picking and chugs
Kayden Bell
Taylor Baby for $150 with soft case and a pack of strings. Should I go for it?
Robert Hughes
yes
Liam White
You sure?
Oliver Cooper
honestly, yeah. I love those things. They don't sound as nice as a full solid wood dread but they are comfy as hell and so convenient for taking places. they generally go for about twice that used. also a hard case is worth buying.
Gavin Murphy
Anybody know other cheap pickup companies like GFS and caliguitar?
Noah Butler
Wilkenson makes some affordable pups but not quite as cheap. I wish I knew some more companies too. Looking for a cheap clone of the railhammer chisel.

can someone recommend me a good combo amp? i'm a bedroom player, i've been using a Line 6 Spider II ever since i started, but it's time for an upgrade and i'm switching to pedals. i've been looking at the Marshall 30dfx.
here's an idea of what i play >Beatles >Nirvana >Guns n Roses >Ronson era Bowie >Stones >Glam Metal >Smashing Pumpkins >Industrial Rock >occasionally post-hardcore. Drop C chugga chugga wee-shit
shoot me suggestions?

I'm trying to get to the level where I can play the song the whole way though like a real guitarist. What are some easy song to play? Any genre or whatever.

My personal hell was being asked to help out in a band as a bassist only to learn I was the best guitarist and singer they had.
Their set list was the most generic classic rock playlist ever imagined. I saw eruption on the list and thought maybe the guitarist might not be a huge piece of shit then.
He never played eruption during our rehearsals since it was a solo piece and when we got to the actual show he ended up playing it at around half speed and with a lot of creative license. I wanted to grab it out of his hands and just play it since that's the easiest fucking "look at me" song for a guitarist and he still fucked it up.
The worst part of all of it was overall they were excited and content playing entry level classic rock for all eternity.
Ryder Brown
I don't know how people can live like that, when my current guitarist and I first got together to play we would play all of Dinosaur Jr.'s You're Living All Over Me and a few Hüsker Dü songs but by the third time we got together I was begging to start writing songs instead.
Easton Lee
After trying this fucker on and off for the past 5 years I've finally got miles of machines down.
I don't even listen to metal but damn do I love playing this shit

i like the jazz bass, so i was thinking about keeping it and buying the other one anyway. Maybe i can pull it off for $450 which seems like a fair price
Lincoln Murphy
but it's going from a sharp to a natural, that's a semitone in the wrong direction for a bend
user is right that the tab notation with the up arrow is a bend, but the music doesnt seem to reflect it... unless i'm a dumbass and missing something lol

Any opinions on GHS strings? Looking at GHS GBM Boomers Medium and GHS Compound Nickel Wrap string sets, I mainly play stuff in C standard, I tune up fairly often but I also use Drop A tunings.

I'm going to buy the Whirlwind Gold Box, try to stop me

Buy a brand new Gibson Les Paul
Jace Carter
Just go back from dropping my guitar off at the luthier.
Headstock repair is only $75 instead of the $125 I was quoted over the phone because the break isn't that bad.
Also took the opportunity to order a new pickguard. The original has a wonky shape, crappy material and a steep bevel. I gave the guy the tight line drawing I made of the modified shape and used the ES-335 he had on the wall to demonstrated the material and beveling I wanted. I might have been able to get a slightly cheaper guard online but being able to work out exactly what I wanted in person is worth the $50.
It was a good day Anons.
Camden Hall
fuck off faggot what were you expecting from this circle jerk of a board
Thomas Allen
Been wanting to buy a unified power supply with outputs for 9V and 12V and also a pedalboard (preferably soft case included, but doesn't matter). Harley Benton's Power Plant and SpaceShip 40 pedalboard caught my eye, but I've heard mixed thoughts about Harley Benton. Anyone know the built quality of these items in particular or could you maybe recommend something?
I'm on a budget, but willing to invest if the price is justified by the quality.
Jace Lopez

I want to sound like early Weezer (Blue and Pinkerton) but I only have a strat with 1 humbucker and 2 single coils. Do you think I could get away with it or should I get other guitar/pickups? I know they used a Gibson to record.
Any recommended pedals/amps?
Nicholas Moore
my set up is pretty good for overall weezer lol
Lincoln White
What do you currently have as far as pedals and amps? I would personally make sure that my current gear is incapable of getting the tone I want before buying new gear. If you have already tried it, my biggest reccomendation would be to go to a guitar shop and actually try some gear in person.
Nathaniel Morris
which is this sg one posted earlier lmao
Lincoln Ortiz
nice, thanks!
Yeah, you're right. I've got no guitar pedals atm, so I'll check my local stores but they have really poor and overpriced catalogs. So far I haven't managed to find that sound with only my guitar and amp.
Jack Flores
is there anywhere to buy pickups for replacement other than online? Like guitar center/anywhere in person. I can check a few local stores but i'm not sure how likely it is.
Josiah Kelly
Any big name store like Guitar Center and Sam Ash will have pick-ups. Local stores might.
David Nguyen
Even if you buy in person you won't usually be able to try them out. Plus you'll have some salesman pushing an expensive pickup with nothing special about it.
Christopher Flores
Kind of sounds like me, I've played for a long time but I too feel like I'm not as good as I should be, don't know much about music. Sometimes I just feel like the drive is gone, between knowing there's so much more good music out there that I don't know about and the music I DO know about, I guess I feel depressed to be honest. Things aren't so good right now.
Joseph Powell
You see that dark grey/black stuff in the bottom of the pickup hole? That is shielded paint. You may not have really needed the foil.
Austin Perry
Line 6 helix is fucking awesome. I run it into a Mesa 2:50 power amp into 8 ohm cabs or into the computer. Zzounds will probably approve you for a line of credit for one if you have a job.
Jonathan Jackson
>tfw was young and dumb, sold a guitar I got from my dad for christmas to some guy I worked with at the time >try to buy it back at some point it was just a shitty fuckin squier bullet but that fat fuck wouldn't sell it to me
Seriously it was nothing special either, still pisses me off when I think about it.
Adam Powell
I wish I had a helix. Post some pics
Chase Cox
I've really gotta deal with this quickly so unfortunately I don't have time to wait for shipping i've dealt with my fair share of dumbass GC employees, ill do some research online before spending any money.
Wyatt Cox
I'm in a similar position, about playing and recording solo. When I was between 14-16 or so, I knew less about music but had more fun recording crap and playing. I need to either find some people with similar interests to play with, or somehow refresh some ideas. I'm pretty decent at mixing/producing and recording, but the ideas just aren't there. I have probably a hundred short recordings of ideas, need to revisit them. I've been playing for probably 9 or so years now, I could be better. >and here I am on the internet again...
Henry Jenkins
maybe, does it sound good? If so then no, it is not stupid in my opinion.
Colton Parker
It's an acoustic bass instrument that is actually audible and not an upright bass. Which us pretty appealing. I'm just afraid the sound and the instrument itself will immediately be associated with Russian folk music.
Jackson Baker
Sup /gg/, got a new pedal from a friend I'm borrowing/buying, Tone City Model B. These things are really fucking awesome. Let me know what you think of the sound, sorry for shit playing. The Worm is what provides the great hi-boost near the middle, I think it sounds fantastic
Love mine, I don't think theres a better value amp for the money these cost other than maybe the Micro Dark (since it has an effects loop)
the only problem I have is that if my amp is being driven hard it has issues with the looper I have set up in front of it? Kinda strange.
Lately it's been Interstate Love Song by STP. it's not that technically hard, but if that isn't a fucking great jam and that riff is super great
Jayden Collins

Wyatt Morris
Can't really avoid it though, it is what it is. Looks pretty sweet though. Have you heard of this thing called a lute? shit is pretty cash, you should get that instead.
Mason Ramirez
I like using open tunings on my classicals, but i hate how the tension differs greatly when I go down to lower tunings. Should get higher tension strings to compensate on one of them? I usually tune down to open d and open c, if that helps. My main concern is fucking up the neck for obvious reasons.
Ryan Perez
>lute Like the weird huge Renaissance or baroque lutes (not sure)?
Jack Morgan
Just whatever man, I like the lute for the nice range of bass and treble, has a great tone, etc. I don't recall what era Theorbo is from, I think it's from the Baroque period, but that is the giant real long lute, there are all kinds of lutes. I just love acoustic bass and bass in general.
Brayden Phillips
Pretty sure the bass strings are just resonant strings though, right? And they don't have frets for the bass strings either. We have a thing like that here called a Schrammelguitar.
Joseph Reyes
That looks pretty fun to play to be honest. Anyway it depends, there are lutes with drone strings that you don't fret and just pluck. Your pic in particular might allow for the player to reach from the bottom, or maybe in between fret boards but probably not, that's not a lot of room. And remember, just because it doesn't have frets means nothing. But yeah in all likeliness they are resonant strings or open played. Not sure, brb researching Schrammelguitar.
