first for blood incantation aoty

Why hasn't BM improved since this album?

this album ruined black metal

...

I'm fucking fascinated by this. Between the airhorns, slams, samples, and vocalist reciting 2Chainz lyrics, it might be the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

xth for the new cheerleader concubine album finally dropped

What are you listening atm?

youtube.com/watch?v=VBfnWZkW7sE

I see this guy post in fb Cred Forums every once in a while

any such thing as upbeat, happy black metal?

Because Filosofem introduced a lot of hipsters to black metal.

No.

So what was the general consensus on the Abbath album?

it's BM for Kiss fans

Mediocre. That aoty image that was posted was made as a joke I'm guessing.

Sounds exactly the same as everything else he's done for the past decade but somehow more bland.

Why are modern death metal bands so reluctant to come up with catchy riffs?

It's all about
>muh breakdowns
slam death
>muh wank
tech death
>muh atmosphere
caverncore
>muh double-kick drums
brutal death

Where are the R I F F S in all that? I'm sure they could write great riffs if they wanted, but why don't they want to?

riffs are gay

King Diamond still being awesome.

This.

Did y'all listen to that black metal supergroup with Thurston Moore, Xasthur and Leviathan?
It's pretty good

How did Thurston manage to position himself as an "authority" on black metal? What a dilettante

that supergroup album he did with Wrest and the junkie faggot from Nachtmystium and was garbage

Nobody told me how fucking good this album is. It's easily one of their best. Why does nobody ever talk about it?

LMAO

Chilling with this on.

Any Thy Catafalque fans here?

What do you guys think of the new album: Meta?

I think It's pretty good but slightly disappointing compared to his previous stuff.

what is the objective conclusion to metal and why is it G.I.S.M?

Second off, we got Melechesh, so we already got sumerian metal stuff.

How is there no leak yet?

?

>There is no part of it that I remember after 3 listens.
That's exactly my same problem. I've never been bored listening to a TC album before. Everything sounds so uninspired. There's a 21 minutes song on the record with barely any interesting ideas in it. I hope it'll grow on me.

Not when you're a trve.
Those treasures will never befall you.
They're out of reach.

Nice try

youtube.com/watch?v=jWYyCerXxNM

Is Tuno Ido Tarlat really his best work?

I think it's clear that Roka Hasa Radio is the best thing he's made.

>In theory, metal is today's real rock and roll--the music of the people. It's basic, it's rude, kids love it, parents hate it. But the closer you look, the stupider and more delusory it seems. Metal isn't basic--it cultivates a pseudo-virtuosity that negates content. The dreams it promulgates are usually foolish and often destructive. Eighty per cent of the "people" who like it are male, and 98 per cent of them are white.

I Am The Grave Of The 80's makes me cringe so fucking hard. The lyrics are terrible.

I really want to like this album when it comes out. The last album from them I really enjoyed was Across the Dark. But the premise sounds so fucking pretentious.

>Eighty per cent of the "people" who like it are male, and 98 per cent of them are white.
Fucking white males, they can't keep getting away with this.

So, in other words, Christian Metalcore is the only good thing to come out of metal because it's truly basic, and doesn't have a destructive message.

I just really love the bizarre use of the horrible lo-fi drums and synths, really makes it a one-of-a-kind album. But I definitely think you could make a case for RHR as the best musically.

>le cringe meem

explain

pssst you summon the fury of a hundred angery cvltists, explaining how versatile the genre is even tho they hate most of it anyhow

this is the loveliest, cutest thing to ever come out of black metal and I want to headpat this album!
it still lacks female japanese clear vocals tho

Actually I might think Sgurr is his best work musically. I freakin love that record. It's so cohesive and everything flows together well. RHR just has more variety and nothing can top it's first three tracks.

I Am The Grave of the 80's is dedicated to Gezol, lad, the lyrics made a lot more sense when Fenriz said in an interview it's based around Gezol from Sabbat's view of modern metal.

everyone on here will bash it but still watch it anyway when it shows up on youtube

youtube.com/watch?v=xZhpWgTWYOw

That's not the only Darkthrone song with "Fuck modern metal, we only listen to REAL metal" lyrics. They're all very cringey.

YES!

the worst mistake this blog ever made was adding pictures of their writers next to articles, revealing them all to be stereotypical beta, orbiting nu-males.

Now I understand why they cover more proge and deathcore than black metal, and started reviewing indie rock and meme rap

Why do Fenriz and Gezol always suck eachother off whenever they get the chance to?

POLAND STRONK
RUSSIA WE WAR YOU

I love everything up to Sardonic Wrath. They're a fantastic bad. Everything after that is trash.

>One 40 minute long concept album based on a book written by a band member.

That sounds like a Dream Theater idea.

And given how little I enjoyed their last two albums It's a first hearing; then believing kind of situation.

Absolutely!
Mgła, Behemoth, Batushka and so on

>muh OSDM

youtube.com/watch?v=YROYWNhAdns

because they both think every obscure, second rate retro thrash band is the best thing ever

similar tastes and influences, plus fenriz is really into the j-metal/j-punk thing

he has a bunch of contacts with the j-thrash and j-black metal scene so it's not really surprising.

wht about furia, szron, cultes des ghoules, bestial raids?

hey dadmetal fags, if osdm riffs are so catchy, why does every band sound the same?

don't know what anons are saying, it's good

because if you introduce variety, things stop being catchy and start sucking.

Not sure, the internet usually has this handled
They stated in their album trailers that there's plenty of idea influence from bands like DT. Their main focus was somewhat of an homage to Crimson though.
Somewhat, but SOTDS was my first album of theirs, guess I'm a little biased on that album in specific.

Honestly just hearing the excerpts from this album I'm prepping my anus. May or may not be their best album, doubt it but I'm hoping it's a damn good album.

obviously

>behemoth

Anyone else get really tired of the atmosperic BM trend sometimes? When I first found it I thought it was cool, and there's good stuff there, but on the other hand there's an endless fucking sea of mid tempo mediocrity, that seems to think it can hide uninspired riffing with production. I really dig lo-fi but if you're going with that you need some really strong songs to make it actually work and these one-man band Burzum worshippers just drone on and on.

A good new band that plays straight, spooky, agressive BM is actually a rarity at this point.

Any good black metal is a rarity. Black metal sucks.

that's how it is with most styles, more or less

...

european normies appreciate metal more than american normies i guess

thanks for posting

I just want to hear someone even blast. So much today seem to be half lackluster instrumental shit that never gets started.

have you heard the new Mare Cognitum?

this track has a pretty cool progression:
marecognitum.bandcamp.com/track/occultated-temporal-dimensions

>mfw my friend got a huuuuuuuuge bounty for this on WCD recently
It's not that bad either.

I came up with that joke in the prev thread

I have called the band Ebinmemetomy before

good one user

>I listen to deep metal Lyrics like they sing about the abyss and Nietzsche and stuff hehe
>I am smart btw

doesn't have such a good ring, but alright, you got the concept first

>98 per cent of them are white
objectively wrong though. Not even Fenriz is white in my book (Argentinean ancestors).

no, they sing about hunting grizzly bears and wiping your ass with autumn leaves cause you're innawoods and there's no TP for your bunghole innawoods.
That's the necessary pain and unpleasant necessities.

Yeah this is good, I like it better than the earlier stuff. This and stuff like Saor I can dig, because it actually brings the extremity too and has some memorable melodies.

I am not sure whether you are saying this is something good or something bad tho.

this cover looks like decapitated' carnival is forever one

>"people"
kek, seems this is what it comes to
>tfw not skillet or switchfoot fan
>god now hates you

I'm just explaining you the meaning of the song you misinterpreted

Why does Ted "El Nocturno Culto" Skjellington always have a big comfy coat?

You should listen to them man. They're saving souls man.

there is a lot of that tired "texture" atmoblack for sure where it's nearly impossible to tell the songs apart but I think it's worth it to trawl through the bullshit to find the more memorable ones

here's another one that I feel is somewhat overlooked:
chaosmoon.bandcamp.com/album/resurrection-extract

he's a big guy

New Allegaeon is l i t a f

When did you realize the superiority of atmo? Bonus points if you used to be a riff shitter.

This is pretty sick too. I like the more grandiose feel of atmospheric, the issue I usually have is just that they seem to never start up. Those that do I like though, like Winterfylleth and like this.

>Beastwars
>clean vox
I like them, but come on the guy sounds like a broken belt sander lmao

it's really not that harsh. everything he says is perfectly comprehensible.

I didn't interpret anything bro.

Still, I wouldn't call them clean. More like semi-harsh

This is surprisingly enjoyable.

yeah you saw "cerabral abyss" and thought it was 2deep4u Nietzsche when it was just innawoods diarrhea

guess they wanted to come off as being reverent towards BM's "artistic properties", but since they're all out of touch middle aged art school faggots who don't actually know enough about BM to pay attention to BM bands who are actually doing something challenging and original enough to be deserving of art-fag evaluation they just went with a washed up old clown like abbath who wasn't even all that noteworthy at the peak of his abilities

Pretty satisfied with how that went, honestly. Laughed the entire time people were talking about adding Dying Fetus.

the fat moderator is doubtlessly going to censor it to hell and back when we point out that macho values/aesthetics are essential to metal.

it's metal for hardcore kids and therefore not real metal. get your camo cargo shorts away from me

tfw i actually am wearing camo cargos

But they aren't essential to metal.

they are

No, they're really not, at all.

Really enjoying this, thanks.

yes they are, stop being wrong

metal is for edgy middle schoolers and pretentious manchildren

it is bad

I'm not being wrong at all. As a matter of fact, I'm being right. Because I'm the one saying they aren't essential.

Thanks for the input.

And that's why you're wrong.

Since /metal/ is obviously very taken with Liisa Ladouceur and her tits, here's her talking about industrial metal.
youtube.com/watch?v=kPiwPSh0ofU

We used to have a guy here...

>"Rammsteeeen"
>no Chemlab
>no Die Krupps
wat the fug?
Rammstein is just Die Krupps with Laibach vocals.

It's actually supposed to be pronounced "Rammsteen"

>I don't know much about NDH cause it hasn't gotten over here
For fuck's sake, Die Krupps INVENTED neue Deutsche Härte and it was on MTV all the time in the 90s.

who else?

no but whatever

They should have added 3Teeth and Street Sects.

Also they didn't talk about cyber metal, which was the biggest offshoot of industrial metal in the 2000s along with industrial black metal.

>Die Krupps INVENTED neue Deutsche Härte
I don't think that's true.

who did then?

Rammstein arguably

Those bands are a little new to be added to a chart like that, and why would they talk about other genres?

Get a real job faggot

Die Krupps started making oldschool-EBM-tinged industrial rock before Rammstein.
And since NDH is literally industrial rock with oldschool EBM influences, guess what that makes of Die Krupps.

senile farts always trying to stay relevant

Okay first thing, this is a chart for industrial metal, not industrial rock with EBM tinges, so why would Die Krupps or NDH come into it

Second, the term was named in reference to Rammstein, making them the originators of the movement.

>Those bands are a little new to be added to a chart like that
So is Author&Punisher
also 3teeth (and also MELT) is pure industrial metal, unlike A&P
>why would they talk about other genres?
because Author&Punisher is industrial doom metal so why not bring up cyber metal and other subgenres?

Because apparently Rammstein is in it.
They may be the originators of the name, but certainly not the originators of the music style.

>Author&Punisher is industrial doom metal
only for his first two-ish albums, he's been straight industrial for a while now.

3teeth and MELT don't really do anything noteworthy in industrial metal
Street Sects isn't industrial metal
Cyber metal is a poorly defined offshoot that doesn't have much going for it,

Objective fact

So his only contribution to industrial metal was through a hybridization with doom metal.
Which is why if you bring him up, you must bring up all the other offshoots of industrial metal.
And mention P.H.O.B.O.S. as far as industrial doom is concerned.

The originators of the name and the movement. They were the ones that inspired the new wave. So in a chart about influential bands in a scene, Rammstein gets top billing, and Die Krupps does not.

> if you bring him up, you must bring up all the other offshoots of industrial metal
No, you don't. You literally do not.

Cyber Metal is a combination of industrial metal, corsetcore and melodeath.
And most cyber metal bands (until the inception of djent) sound the same: lots of trance-y melodic synths, chuggy background riffs with some melodic leads, distorted harsh vocals, and a cybergoth aesthetic.
It's a very clearly defined genre.

drakkar-productions-official.bandcamp.com/track/wladimirs-march-vlad-tepes

Yes you do. Because he's not pure industrial metal, and he's not influential.
He's just vaguely famous, which means you could also bring up the fucking CNK.

Defined by you, here. With words like corsetcore, and a definition that fits a lot of other things.

So poorly defined.

>Cyber Metal is a combination of industrial metal, corsetcore and melodeath.
my god that sounds like absolute ass. got any recs? I wanna see this trainwreck

No you don't.

He's influential because of the fairly original instrumentation he uses and he heralded in a lot of industrial, quasi-metal bands.

This is as close to a clear and precise definition as you can get for any subgenre of metal.
Try to define groove metal more clearly than I did with cyber metal.

Uhhh, but Immortal are one of the GOAT bm bands user? Their brand of blackened thrash which they delivered was genius, I love how SOND is super fun to listen to with great grooves and technical playing, but also still icy and cold sounding

I listened to it today

What is the guitar style at 16:50, the beginning of blow me away you, called?

m.youtube.com/watch?v=7dIXeNEydr0

It's not all bad.
I recommend Herrschaft and early Neurotech. Those are okay.

There's of course Illidiance and T3chn0ph0b14 for the goth bullshit thing
and there's Cyanotic for the more strictly industrial side
but it's ass.
Tyrant of Death defines itself as cyber metal although it heavily reeks of djent

That's a fucking terrible definition, and you know it. For one thing, other than cybergoth aesthetic, iyou just described djent

I'm eager to hear about those bands because that sounds interesting.
He still isn't pure industrial metal, so he doesn't have more of a right to be on this chart than any leading fusion genre band.

>T3chn0ph0b14
holy shit that kinda name brings back memories of my regrettable aggrotech phase in middle school. thanks for the recs tho user

>tfw the album starts with a 2 minute sample of someone being tortured then the chug chug chug chug chugga chug chug chug hits you

It's their chart, they set the standards, not you. They want to allow thing's that aren't purely metal, it's their business.

The industrial metal genre as a whole has a flimsy connection to metal anyway.

No, because djent has bullshit polyrhythm and grooves, a much much heavier sound, and no bullshit emotional keyboards (instead it has emotional solos)
So here's some extra definition of cyber metal: the rhythm is always very simple 4/4 stuff with minimal grooves, few solos, and a sound that, while overproduced, isn't very low.

nice job backpedalling

also I'm still waiting for you to list some bands influenced by A&P

What backpedalling? Facts are facts. They set the standards.

You're gonna be waiting a long time with that attitude.

Reminder that 90% of djent and that syncopation and polyrhythm are wildly different

I see you've expanded your definition. Is that because the first definition was poor?

I'm just arguing in this thread, not with the fags who made this chart and you know it.

I do know it. Just as I know that we're arguing about what should or should not go in that chart. So we do it within their standards and definitions.

No, it was because you voluntarily misinterpreted it in order to apply it to djent.
But there is a continuity between cyber metal and djent. Periphery and Mechina have the faux-epic emotional aspect of cyber metal, and Tyrant of Death labels itself as cyber metal but is basically djent.

and you were basically saying "they don't have standards or definitions, their chart is arbitrary" which is wrong. It's not arbitrary, it's just hindered by their poor knowledge of the genre.

I pointed out that your definition was vague and relied on an aesthetic focal point.

can you guys rec me something like this without going full Merz?

I wasn't saying that at all. Where the fuck did you get that?

Yeah that's the concept

also I forgot about the Kovenant.
The Kovenant might very well be the inventors of cyber metal, which was actually their own misguided attempt to create symphonic industrial black metal.

>best type of feel
youtube.com/watch?v=BC0WElNM_kU

also there's Ensoph (which is pretty decent), Chaosweaver, and Septicflesh's Revolution DNA album.

And ID:Vision defines itself as cyber metal too but it's more aggressive and leans towards djent.

Goddamn it's been a decade since I've last mentioned those bands.

Wheres the new Cult of Luna?

>that pic

Man I love earlier industrial with sequenced guitars but holy fuck aggrotech is so goddamn cringe. I mean, I feel like I could like it but it's aesthetics are so bad I'd never be able to listen to it without being scared someone would catch me doing so.

And I'm not someone who generally gives a fuck what others think, but that just crosses a line

Slam isn't code for -core is it?

Slam is code for BULLDOZING FUCKING SLAMS

The issue of the cybergoth aesthetic is that it's almost always inconsistent, gaudy and amateurish, but the concept itself is neat.
But read BLAME! and you'll have one example of perfectly elegant cybergoth visuals.

>tfw the $l@m vox sound like the last little bit of water in a tub going down the drain

Correct, as black metal has shown us.
