this is really great! i really liked this a lot, it reminds me of muse with it's artsyness (in a good way)
cool soundtrack sounds like a tangarine dream soundtrack (though I think the only movie I've seen scored by them is miracle mile) but yeah very atmospheric
wasn't a huge fan of the drums but the guitar and vox are nice.

question for anyone who has experience w/ making cassettes
for small runs of say 25 tapes, what is the benefit of duplicating a master tape in a dual cassette deck over just dubbing individual tapes in a single deck? is it just that duplicating is faster?
How do you decide what songs to put on a demo or EP?
intuition is the only way
Well shit. Can't I just ask the opinion of others? I think all of my music is shit and don't even like it myself, how am I to determine what others would like?
focus on what you like, people will follow. if you aren't making modern pop shit-a-ton then other peoples opinion doesn't matter in regards to the stuff you put out. put up stuff that satisfies YOU first and foremost. if nothing out of these tracks is satisfying for you personally then you might as well get back to the drawing board
But what if what I like doesn't fit into any one genre? I can't just put the songs I like on a record. If I did it wouldn't have one set genre on the album and that would be an issue don't you think?
you are trying to hard to find excuses. it wouldn't be a problem for me personally. and if it doesn't fit - fuck it. it's yours. do whatever or do nothing.
pick aload of tracks you currently working on that sound similar and good together, and then make them into an ep. Thats what i did with my first EP tetrahex.bandcamp.com
This is just the kind of thing that I figured would bother most people or what just by default makes a bad record. If there is no general theme and it's a mash of genres it's not going to feel like it fits together and will be really weird.
let's start by saying - why do you care about people so much? why not care about your feelings and your intuition?
Rec as always:
I've had your record on my computer for quite a while now and I've listened to it numerous times, its catchy and really good. I especially dig "Spanish kid".
Sounds really nice, I'll look into it more!

Because I want people to like my music. If I'm just making music for myself that feels selfish. I want me and other people to be able to enjoy my music. I want to bring happiness to others while also making myself happy.
wisdom
listen to this dude
>If I'm just making music for myself that feels selfish
nobody said about making music for yourself there user. you already made these tracks that you want to put out. it's not FOR YOU only. logic man, think. also, just pointing that out, making music for your own enjoyment is less selfish than ruining people's livelihoods so, you know...
>I want me and other people to be able to enjoy my music
this is selfish, however. "i'll make music and you will like it so i will like it so we could all like it". it makes you look like a person who needs attention and recognition just because he can't feel secure about his own "art" for a lack of a better word.
sorry but you can't force people to like your music. it's very simple thing - make music that you feel happy about and THEN attract people with it. not the other way around. that would amass you with material which you are not satisfied with and that also makes people just going away from you for another, more comfortable music guy. or just do mainstream pop, by the books, and don't care at all. but that's not what this is about. or learn how to be a DJ and do that on some parties. same results.
first is you being confident about your stuff. if you will be then people will follow. making opium for masses will get a lot of people happy. but where is fun in making shitty pop song. ey?
more realistically the desire for people to like your music has its source in selfishness; you want to be recognized
people will more likely enjoy your music if you're making sounds you want to hear
weird example but i saw madlib say in an interview that he made The Unseen (a hip-hop classic) purely for his own enjoyment and wasn't even going to release it until a friend convinced him to
Hah. It looks like I've ousted myself for the selfish person that I am. A shame don't you think? I wish I could be less selfish but you're right, I honestly just scared of people not liking me when it comes down to it.
>Hah. It looks like I've ousted myself for the selfish person that I am.
less sarcasm, more working on your self-esteem. the rest of my statements still apply
>I honestly just scared of people not liking me when it comes down to it.

it's normal senpai, especially when you're relatively new to making music and expressing yourself, and you haven't established a personal style you're comfortable with.
I've noticed that the music I was making a few years ago was based hugely on imitating sounds of my influences. I didn't really like listening to my own stuff and I obsessed over the aesthetic i was creating more than anything. Now, even tho obviously I still draw influence form my fav artists like anybody else does, I find it much easier to create sounds I want to hear, I care way less about impressing an imaginary audience, and I even sometimes put my own tunes on for listening pleasure.

I really dig the production, man. Sounds very decent, and your frequencies are beautifully organized. Very sample-worthy music. The rawness you leave in the sounds is perfect, don't change that; ruin it with overproduction. Excellent.

Description:
"An EP I made."
-AP Macroeconomics
With a name like AP Macroeconomics, you would expect something completely horrible or completely funny. Even some of the song titles would seem like jokes. But behind the oddity of a name, Thomas Meskil presents the listener something totally opposite. Mumbling guitars, cohesively cluttered percussion, somber soaked vocals, humble, like a hug from a wise, old friend. Compatible with lyrics that feel both personal to the man behind the name and universal to all who listen, AP Macroeconomics is definitely a musician to keep your eye on.
Now available for stream and download! CDs available at AP Macroeconomic's bandcamp as well!
Support, scrobble, or review on RYM. Any feedback of any kind would be greatly appreciated. And give Thomas some love. Thank You. :)

At first I didn't like it to be honest, but starting form "bro" it really got good, when you went into a more industrial sound, I think you should concentrate on that.
I don't have time to listen to the whole thing, but what I did listen to made want to come back another day, keep posting.
Reminded me of Comus for some reason. Very nice tunes, maybe try out more harmonies?
Again, not much time, but will come back. Wrote that 10 minutes ago and haven't stopped listening...good job.

Friend made a metalcore band when he was 17 and he posted some stuff on bandcamp. The bands name was Asking Alejandro and it had a lot of laughable shit on there. About a year or two ago he went on there and deleted every song because the band wasn't really working out. If I had the songs downloaded onto my computer I would put them up just for entertainment purposes
