A sequel to the "Bowie's Best & Worst" thread I had yesterday.
Since we mostly focused on Bowie's best (because let's face it he's amazing) , I figured it'd be interesting to focus more on what people's least favorite Bowie songs are.
No 'one per album' requirement this time, just list off some songs in Bowie's catalog you think are weaker/bad. Bonus points for explaining why they're in your worst list
>The Laughing Gnome (Non Album Single) A shitty, annoying novelty song. Pretty much every Bowie fan calls it his worst
>It Ain't Easy (From Ziggy Stardust) Didn't fit on the album at all. Wasn't a fan of the Melody
>All of the Pinups album Cover albums are generally weak and this was no exception. Probably the least talked about album in Bowie's discography
>Without You and Ricochet (Let's Dance) Annoying melodies and production. Most likely could have been cut without affecting the album that much
>All of Never Let Me Down (Except Time Will Crawl) Cheesy 80s production and some weak Bowie vocal performance (Shining Star being the worst)
>All of Tin Machine Shitty Grunge.
>Wishful Beginnings (1. Outside) Ungodly annoying song with terrible production and goes on for way too long
>Something in the Air ('hours...') Dated in all the worst ways. While his other dated songs are pleasantly dated this one just has a grating beat and some TERRIBLE lyrics.
>Days (Reality) Forgettable song. Feels more like Bowie doing a bad cover than it does an actual Bowie song.
And that's all I can think of for his BAD songs. Everything else he made is pretty fantastic.
Ok fine that one was pretty good, I'll admit, I'll adjust it
>*MOST of Never Let Me Down (Excluding Time Will Crawl and Pinups)
Matthew Morales
Wow I'm stupid. I don't know how I mixed that up *Minus Day in Day Out and Time Will Crawl
Chase Watson
>No Dancing in the Street on that list Such a shitty and disappointing with 2 cool people. >Girl Loves Me >bad
Jaxon Jackson
>>It Ain't Easy (From Ziggy Stardust) what the fuck is your problem
Isaac Long
1984, I like Diamond Dogs but this song kind of annoys me.
Liam Long
scary monsters besides like 4 songsm
Leo James
>>It Ain't Easy (From Ziggy Stardust) I love that song though. >Pinups album It was decent >Except Time Will Crawl I think title track and day in day out is better
Brody Williams
>Dancing in the Street Just a bit of fun for charity m8 The first 6 tracks are literally flawless
Brandon Lee
In my honest opinion I think Black Tie White Noise as a whole is his most forgettable album Even "Never Let Me Down" had "Glass Spider" None of the songs clicked with me Feel free to correct me and call me a pleb
Connor Martinez
BTWN is great.
Asher Price
eck I posted my least favourite per album list yesterday
Only thing of his I've given a 1/10 is Tin Machine II. Everything about it made me wanna die. Stateside especially; Bowie singing about living on the countryside in a rock n roll doo-wop... bleh
Xavier Martinez
>Something in the Air Agreed dude The American Psycho version is waaaay better
Elijah Brown
Kingdom Come is the only track on Scary Monsters that isn't fucking amazing
I kinda like his 1967 album because I appreciate campy '60s pop (The Laughing Gnome is just really funny; shameful considering Bowie later career, but as a novelty song, it's as good as Please Mr Gravedigger, etc.)
Albums I really can't get into it:
>The Man Who Sold The World Boring, too much guitars solos, no subtlety. Plain buttrock, awful dated "boogie rock". David's voice doesn't match this sound at all IMHO. Better arrangements in their later glam-rock LPs. I'd save All the Madmen tho. Worst tracks: Running Gun Blues, She Shook Me Cold
>Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station To Station ew, I hate his funk/soul era. Good tracks: Word On A Wing, Wild is the Wind Pure trash: TVC15
I skip his '80s/'90s stuff after let's Dance until Heathen where Cactus is just a musical turd (of course what else we can expect from the pixies...)
>The Next Day f o r g e t t a b l e
Adam Jones
New Blackstar release of some kind just announced on Facebook.
Austin Long
Fucking this that album is perfect
Ryder Barnes
>Station To Station u fukin wot?
Levi Myers
>tvc15 pure trash what lad
Grayson Johnson
Especially the Dance version on the EP. Never Let Me Down is one of my favorites. For least faves, I'd say pretty much half of Tonight and Across the Universe
Thomas Cooper
if you like TRVE 1960's/70's soul & funk, his takes on these genre are more than laughable.
Carter Cox
>you aren't allowed to like plastic soul because black people exist
It's not like Bowie is trying to claims to be the new James Brown or anything, he knows a white english guy doing soul is laughable but he still does it fucking great. Even the blackies loved his stuff and invited him on Soultrane.
Noah Baker
All of Earthling
Hunter Cruz
>Wishful Beginnings from 1. Outside
Love the album but I do agree it's one of the worst tracks; it does fit the noir theme of the album but like you say, it's unnecessarily long. Should have been 2 minutes.
As for more terrible, terrible Bowie
>I Took A Trip on a Gemini Spacecraft from Heathen Cringeworthy imagery, no exertion of voice, the refrain 'and I thought about... You!' is a combination of both and otherwise is ultimately forgettable
Easton Long
>invited him on Soultrane >"let's invite this cracker, I love how White people dance so awkwardly, they ain't got no soul, brotha" don't be delusional, they laugh at him :/
Evan Miller
You mean that gif? Man i really fuckin hope it's some of the unreleased stuff from the 70's. Who doesn't want to hear new bowie in his fucking prime.
Leo Nguyen
And yet Young Americans was a huge success with both black and white audiences. I don't think they thought he could pull it off, but honestly he looked great and i think it attracted a new audience to his music.
Blake Smith
This Diamond Dogs would be a perfect album without 1984
