Why do all bands inevitably soften as the years go by? Earth went from noise to stoner, Opeth went from black to death to prog, Metallica and Megadeth both went from thrash to alt rock, and nearly all punk groups end up as pop punk in the end

They either mature or lose their edge, whatever spin on it you want to put.

>Earth
>Stoner

>all bands inevitably soften as the years go by

idk

>mfw Burzum, Katatonia, In Flames, Ulver and Opeth literally grow out of metal

What are you talking about? The band members of In Flames all died in a horrible bus accident right after they released Clayman.

Because you can't keep doing drugs at the same pace forever.

That said there are plentypof exceptions.... NoMeansNo was releasing their most frantic shit and playing 3 hour blistering shows 25 years into their career

Because they're not true.

Akerfeldt looks very friendly.

>High on Fire
>albums evolve from fat sludge to fast muscle sludge, mixing thrash and prog elements
>De Vermis Mysteriis and Luminiferous, the lates albums are considered the hardest ones

rekt

^ correct

They don't, you're just using examples of bands that did. If they all did, you wouldn't have to specify.

Metallica and megadeth both are still thrash/heavy metal but went through phases where they were just rock

>Megadeth, Metallica
>alt rock

Holy shit mate

Coroner are still heavy as fuck

Mötörhead definitely softened as the years went by..

Pentastar is very stonery
Orchid is black metaly

Because they realize by going more mainstream/commercial/selling out they wont need to spend a lifetime on the road touring and want to live the cocaine and hookers lifestyle that they dreamed of as teenagers.

"all bands" are you sure? there are countless bands in the underground scene who do not care to soften their sound or anything like that. besides that, a heavier sound does not equal musical sophistication or better music.

I could post several bands that haven't decreased but OP is just giggling away because of his succesful bait thread.

Instead have a picture of thick Carey.

Sometimes it works the other way around

>formed as a generic speed metal/hard rock band in the 70s
>now a black metal/extreme power metal band

I absolutely love the idea of Matt working with Kurt Ballou.

Came here to post this!!! Right on!!!

The older Propagandhi get, the heavier they get. They went from playing shitty pop punk as teens to thrash in their 40s.

New Opeth album is so fucking bad.
At least Pale Communion fully and uncompromisingly held on to its crazy obscure 70s prog rock schlick, but Sorceress is bland and tries to have poppy hooks, what the actual fuck. Just listen to "Era", it's so dogshit.

There have been examples of bands moving away from heavy metal to do great things though, like Ulver.

Because loud and hectic music is for dumb kids. People grow up sooner or later.

Earth moved from post metal to post rock which I think they do well
