Out of all the bassists in the world you pick flea. I can think of like five bassists off the top of my head that would be better choices and none of them are Jaco.

In terms of songwriting/tastefulness I'd say John Entwistle. Not enough of muh funky slapping shit for some people but everything he played meshed perfectly with the rest of the instruments while still being technically challenging that he made seem easy.
good taste, its hard to say if they ever surpassed that one
>all major functions
what is this shit
I love this bassline. Trujillo is such a waste in Metallica.
Jerry was a Racecar Driver or YYZ
John Paul Jones
Les Claypool
Victor Wooten
Geddy Lee
James Jamerson
Sid Viscious

/thread
>sid vicious
even the worst bass player of all time is better than flea
So bad, that he didn't actually even play bass, yes.
dude Sid couldn't play his way out of a paper bag. especially if it was full of heroin
Some Simon Gallup
Simple but awesome
youtu.be
And the fat crazy cat lady that lives at the end of your street
Surely the heroin would need to be on the outside of the bag in order to provide an incentive for Sid to play his way out of said bag?
Anons, plz. The right answer is The Trooper. (Not even gonna bother posting a link because it's already stuck in your head.)
this is the worst thing i've ever heard

Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch
The perfect combination of whole tone scale + dissonance in a 9/4 signature, while somehow still being memorable and catchy. Basically perfection

The perfect combination of whole tone scale + dissonance in a 9/4 signature, while somehow still being memorable and catchy. Basically perfection.

I'm surprised no one has posted this:

Thanks for the ad hominem attack! You sure made this thread better.
>You sure made this thread better.
It's not about that.

I think they should get an honorable mention, no matter what. May not have the best ever and might be relatively simple, but the shit they manage to do with a bass is insane.

Actually damn good, yeah.
There's a lot of really great basslines like that that are well-done and sink into the background, so nobody thinks of them. He does a lot of interesting stuff, though, totally makes the song.
