Will metal ever reach the heights it did 20 years ago?

Anything's higher than rock bottom

20 years ago it was arguably at its lowest. you mean 30 years ago. and no, it most likely will not.

These faggots unironcally either bought pre ripped jeans or cut them with scissors themselves

Xth for hidden gems

youtube.com/watch?v=T2BSond6Wao

zip it faggot, they're all too poor to buy pre-ripped jeans. they all literally only have 1 pair of jeans.

new dopethrone well not really new but i just came across it
youtube.com/watch?v=u7iOoyua4Zw

7rd for varg

Metal changes so fast. Kind of sad core metal is the new thing.

RIP actually inspired and original metal.

Real wear and tear jeans dont rip like that, its obviously fake holes

>banned from Cred Forums of all places

metal for this feel?

what's wrong with stressing your jeans yourself? I don't get the hostility.

Literally this
youtube.com/watch?v=ZKvG2E1kPAM

core metal hasn't been the trend for like 4 years, get with the times grandpa

Ok, I actually enjoy OG, but this is one of the most hilariously awkward covers I have ever heard
youtube.com/watch?v=XknSZNYTkkQ

What does AFSB mean?

how dense are you? jeans WILL tear at the knees because your knees are always bending. fuck off. im going to sleep.

>Rush cover
I already know it's shit

What's the new thing then? Most of ''hard music'' fans at my work listen to shit like Suicide Silence and Veil of Maya

Subdivisions fucking rules, nerd

>unironically enjoying Rush

>not liking Rush

probably Djent for the masses and trendy hipsters are still latched onto Blackgaze

This user predicted it on 1/15/16. thnx user

youtube.com/watch?v=tpptZOc9jBs

Fucking millenials what the fuck

What are some other mathcore bands worth listening to?

Any new tracks available for listening?

I mean factually "millenial" refers to anyone born from the 1980's-2000's so people up to 36 years old are millenials

>he doesnt like Rush
lmao nigga get the fuck out

thoughts?

>not liking an essential '70s metal band
I want posers to leave

At least we got Alcest on the blackgaze trend.

I'm about to ride into battle against the dark lord. What song will help me out with this?

Botch and Converge are the obvious ones

Myotonia is a personal recommendation

Is it even out yet?

I think it's time to attribute this term to people born after '95

I fux wit dis

HAVE THEM MEMED

generational labels are fucking stupid to begin with and have no scientific use or merit, they solely exist for media outlets to bitch about people older or younger than the general population

I don't know anyone older than 25 years old that listens to Veil of Maya and Asking Alexandria

Give me the most technical metal band of all time

Gaza and Coalesce

I mean I and the few people I irl talk about metal with just refer to them as "warped tour kiddies" or something to that nature

youtu.be/XTO8I6fRNgI

Is Alcest the only good blackgaze band?

Sonic Syndicate

This will probably be pretty good, comes out in 7 days

I remember when it was Necrophagist

Orthrelm
youtube.com/watch?v=RZnxr5DQljM

Lantlos and Deafheaven are the other two

this album was actually pretty fuckin neat honestly though
Probably my favorite instrumental Blackgaze release now, and i've listened to a bunch.

>Deafheaven
"no"
I agree with you on the other two

NEW DEATHSPELL OMEGA, GUYS! IS THIS SHIT EVEN REAL?

GET HYPE

GET HYPE

GET HYPE

GET HYPE
deathspellomega.bandcamp.com/album/the-synarchy-of-molten-bones

Im pretty hype

Never heard of em but sounds good

wtf I love dso now

new Katharsis fucking when?

oh my god IQ CAnt believe its happening i thought i was being memed imb so happy im crying

THANK YOU

>buckethead has released 234 albums since 2011

Do people even still listen to Buckethead?

Only half mathcore now but try Plebeian Grandstand

damn it's a short one

More like this band?

their debut EP was really solid too, and if anything is the album people here would recognize them by from a few years back

Apparently even he doesn't

It's meloshit user

intestine baalism
kronos

>grindcore album has 152 tracks

>posting racist meme music

>it's still under 15min in length

where were you when Blood Incantation, Chthe'ilist and Vektor shills were btfo by the true metal aoty?

Don't you fucking dare make this album a meme you shitter

That art could have gone well without that shitty text

I don't understand what the big fuss about this album is, it's so mediocre if you've listened to even a small handful of blackgaze releases in the past few years. Is the lyrical content substantial or something?

I'm more concerned about why his fists are covered in placenta

>intestine baalism
>that entire bit at 2:05
youtube.com/watch?v=cOjEp-w_T5g

It's people wanting to make another meme

imo it's not very original, but it's pretty good for what it is.

>his

>trip having an opinion
do you want us to do what we did to dmsg?

where were you when a pretty cool hardcore punk band turned into a sunbather worship band?

What's your guys' favorite Darkthrone album?

Metal for this feel?

>hardcore punk
more like crust, and they've had slight bm influence from the beginning.

who was literally banned for life and hasn't been mentioned for weeks

This is fucking great.

Any of the first 6, then sardonic wrath and recent 2

>banned for life

Got any proof?
I realized I haven't seen him lately but I don't believe it

>IP ban
>for life
>in 2016
it's hopeful thinking, and don't get me wrong I prefer the threads slowed down like this but more realistically he's just plotting something to fuck the thread up for like a month. Also Jessie posting is beyond just the single poster it's a catch all for the Fear Factory and Roots Bloody Roots style shitposting

New Opeth is pretty fly.

wtf is jessie posting is this some meme i missed out on

I only shitpost when I'm drunk
Buckle your anus kid

no Opeth album has ever been good.

2nd, then 4th, then 5th, the 3rd, thats enough albums from one band for me.

Go away newfriend.

Sorry meant, 6th instead of 5th, don't like the vocals on the 5th one.

Why do tripshits even exist. Please fuck off and dont try to bring your forum style drama and literally pointless posts like this about other people. No one wants to watch you circle jerk, just stick to the topic and shitpost anonymously like everyone else. Go elsewhere if you need whatever hollow sense of belonging you are trying to achieve

Underrated

Everything from Orchid to Watershed is great

Metal peaked with Pantera, lucky this album is almost 30 years old.

youtube.com/watch?v=q-wiHqEgq8o

I really didn't like Heartwork, found it very boring and derivative. People say that it created melodeath but pic related came out months early and was far better.

Opeth was a better black metal band than death metal band

NFH isn't melodeath in the modern sense (i.e. hard rock with gruff vocals), Carcass had a bigger hand in inventing that style.

Late to the Deathspell Omega party but...

HOLY FUCK SO HYPE! I KNEW THE BANDCAMP HAD TO OF BEEN A SIGN OF SOMETHING COMING!

Also it's coming out in November, just in time for NBBMN so I think a listen-along will be most assured.

But melodeath in my eyes should be death metal with melodies based from folk music and NWOBHM. Thats what the early bands sounded like, But I guess genres change over time. BTW forgot this huge influence (even though it came out after Heartwork)

their EPs are some of their best material

Very true.

Mass Grave Aesthetics, Diabolus Absconditus, Chaining the Katechon are all amazing single track 20 min EPs. Kenose is as long as an album even and is phenomenal. Drought is great too.

>Onward where Most with Ravin I may meet

What did he mean by this?

Yeah the early style of melodeath was great, with both the albums you mentioned and works by AtG, Eucharist, etc. However, it's much easier to write consonant "death metal" with pop song structures, so it makes sense why so many bands went the Heartwork/In Flames/SotS route.

My only real goal in life is to make riffs like Alf Svensson's.

panzerfaust, under a funeral moon, and circle the wagons

Early In Flames (pre Anders) was still pretty good, but then they simplify themselves for something more like regular old hard rock. Even Jester Race was decent. As for ATG, can't stand SotS.

Subterranean was their best that I've heard, featuring 2 members pilfered from superior bands (Dawn and Eucharist). It's fun in a power metal sense but not as satisfying as good DM. Dark Tranquillity up to and incl. The Gallery is similar for me, though they did have a bit more ambition with their songwriting. Pity they had Anders on vocals for much of that era.

>can't stand SotS
Tell me you've heard this, at least.
It's probably my most played EP/demo ever.

I love Colony and Whoracle.

Yeah, Anders is a pretty bad vocalist. Skydancer still is a good album, you can definitively hear more ambition with the polyphonic songwriting, still doesn't bet TRitSiO

I like them, but they don't compare to the earlier work of IF and other better bands.

Heard it, pretty good. I still like "The Red in..." better

Forgot to post

What does /metal/ think?

Literally who

Well length has nothing to do with quality, I'm just a bit sad it's on the short side but it doesn't hinder my excitement in any way

Mass Grave Aesthetics is pure bliss

>Also it's coming out in November, just in time for NBBMN so I think a listen-along will be most assured
Good times ahead

a majority of new album releases discussed in this thread come from bandcamp and you're telling me you're too lazy to see what the highest selling metal album on it is? I'm not saying it's a good album but it takes 5 seconds to find out why it was posted

>when Seven Minutes of Nausea album has over 8000 tracks under 10 mins but you feel it's too long

It takes one second to type which album it is and save all /metal/ browsers the five.

>Blackened Crossover Thrash Metal
anything like this?

volcanic slut, or at least it's hardcore kids doing black/thrash

This is the first I've heard of this album
If you don't wanna explain who/what it is then fuck off mate

post,r8 and rec

GosT - Non Paradisi, but it's more synthwave fandom overlap with metal so it's not even a metal album he was asking about. Or you could not be a lazy fuck and reverse image search if you're curious which works too

GosT - Non Paradisi

A lot of metal folks are fans of GosT, Perturbator and other synthwave/outrun artists.

>spoonfeed me because I'm an incompetent baby who can't use basic internet functions that are hard coded into the website I'm bitching on

is this what metal listeners that are too guilty to listen to bleep listen to lol

feels like metalheads and neofolk/martial industrial a few years back except this is being directly marketed to metal listeners

South of Heaven is way too underrated tb h

It's a really simple link honestly, horror movie aesthetics are heavily featured in a lot of synthwave releases from Blood Music and that goes well with the horror movie aesthetics of Death Metal

wew what a waste of trips
keep being mad people don't care about your shitty synthwave album

>I'm not saying it's a good album
I don't give a shit about synthwave, just learn to reverse image search shit that's widely available

I like South of Heaven more than I like Reign in Blood.

it's a tenuous link at best that doesn't seem to extend beyond initial aesthetic but I can see why people like it. in the scheme of things it just comes off as 'bleep for people that don't like bleep' to me when aimed at metalheads

I support all this crust taste. The new Trap Them is fantastic if you haven't listened to it yet

My preference over Slayer albums flips all the time, but Behind The Crooked Cross is probably my favorite Slayer song.

It's electronic music made by metal fans so it makes total sense that metal fans would enjoy it or a label like Blood Music would partner with a number of these artists.

Play while you check /metal/ threads dubtrack.fm/join/mu-metal

i still think colma is a great album and listen from time to time, but i really dont care about the billions of albums he just shits out

Any Skálmöld fans here?
What do you think of the newest record?

Trna - Lose yourself to find peace

You fags told me this would be great but it flat out fucking sucks

>from Saint Petersburg

Russia is such a mixed bag of music it's interesting
for what it's worth they have the metalcore/deathcore aotysf with the new Shokran

>believing the Twilight Force meme

>metalcore/deathcore
Why is this still a thing

>Shokran
>djenty
>overly produced
>overly loud
>metalcore/deathcore aotysf

God damn dude

all deathcore has those flaws, Shokran just lack the breakdowns and add the guitar solos and aladdin shit
they're still a 6-7/10 at best

I feel like this album makes shred obsolete

scene girls

Should Mayhem have ended in 94 or is any of the post-Mysteriis stuff worthwhile?

I unironically think Panzerfaust is their best bm album

Honestly same

1.Panzerfaust
2. Blaze
3. Hunger
4. Funeral Moon

Swap blaze with hunger and we're set

I also think "Punkthrone" is really gud

Does /metal/ approve?

What's some more 90s DM in the style of My Arms, Your Hearse?

yes, great album

lol i just got a promo for a kid rock your where foreigner is opening

Any other albums you would recommend from his discography?

ok, now say that in english

That would be good if there was. The album is nice.

Are there any lists for essential 80/90s Doom and Sludge bands and albums, aside the well known like Melvins, Crowbar, Saint Vitus, Pentagram, Cathedral and Candlemass.

>sludge

I fucking hate this word.

What then? Grime-Rock?

NEW THEOCRACY SONG!

youtube.com/watch?v=VUHiIEbIY7M

Album coming October 28, 2016.

holy shit your autism m8

massive conspiracy against all life, tentacles of whorror, 10th sublevel of suicide.

Hard rock is really the original term for what you are defining. Black Sabbath is a prime example. Goatsnake is a """"sludge"""" band but really they just play hard blusey rock with a metal aesthetic

What about meth drinker? What are they if not sludge metal?

Has /metal/ listened to the new Inquisition Album "Bloodshed Across The Empyrean Altar Beyond The Celestial Zenith"?

But hard rock is already term used for bands like Aerosmith and AC/DC.
Sludge usually has harsh vocals and overall dirty/grimey sound so it differs a lot even if it's just sound and vocals.

Gotta admit I'd like to know how would Sludge songs sound if played with cleaner guitar and bass sound and clean vocals.

Why don't you own this as CD or a vinyl?

Because my dad, like all dads, has it on both most likely so I'd just use his if I wanted to.

Sounds pretty good desu

Yes

A step down from Ominous but great nonetheless

My dad also had it but then he died so now I have it on vinyl

I don't come here to feel you cunt

Throat cancer, hope you don't smoke

Would you say you like the direction they are going with the whole universe/stanism jazz?
I like it and their quality seems to stay very consistent.
Bloodshed isn't quite as cool as Ominous and Obscure it has some good songs.

Can /metal/ recommend me metal like Voivod, Vektor, Timeghoul and Bolt Thrower, I want sci-fi/space stuff.

...

Have there been any good stoner and/or doom releases this year? Anything that you'd rec?

Still need to give it a listen, first Single i heard was good, as expected.

new asphyx is pretty good lads

ive always fucking hated that butt-ugly logo goddamn

Check No Absolutes In Human Suffering by Gaza

jesus this sucks ass

It's a pretty good album, though not as good as Symphonies of Sickness and Necroticism

christ oathbreaker is bad. i get it though. deafheaven are touring with slipknot and deathwish are trying to recreate that hype again.
it's not gonna work, but they're sure trying

So did you guys talk about this yet? It's pretty cool. If the guy who made this sees this: more black metal next time, please. Come on down and Blood in the river are the best songs imo.

zealandardor.bandcamp.com/album/devil-is-fine

"Sorry, just to make sure I have it down correctly, what were the two genres originally requested? I think I'm mishearing something.
No, that’s right, they said nigger music. It was black metal and nigger music.

Did that bum you out at all?
No, that’s just Cred Forums."

Was kinda boring, guess I don't like the 'nigger music' part of it

Here! Drinking beer again though

metal heads prefer when metal isnt mainstream, hair metal and nu metal are seen as retarded step children in the metal world.

the only way i see it going big again is if a new genre is pushed......electronic dance metal.

edm and trap fad will end again and guitar music will be on the rise again
the cycle repeats but I'm kinda scared that djent will be at the forefront of it

why do you give a shit what kind of music is popular?

If it's popular; more of it will be made, supply and demand you know..

if guitar based music comes back it will be some sort of watered down, plebe friendly grind core and power violence type of shit .

While on the hipster front we have more bands like Deafheaven, wolves in the throne room and Liturgy

6 years

++ Repulsion, Mentors, GG Allin

naw it would be like new skyharbor

youtube.com/watch?v=xPhu-9UYlD4

What are you listening to while the sun rises?

i see metal splitting into three ways in the near future.

Underground experimental post metal, blackgaze.

true meta™ grindcore, power violence, fastcore, thrashcore type of stuff.

And, gay stuff like you posted or metal fuses with EDM and becomes a legit beast.

These guys are unironically the best djent band right now
I really liked Guiding Lights

I've been actually going through Insomnium's dicography now

Favorite album so far?

>that feel when liking Above The Weeping World a lot
>that feel when also liking Since the day, almost equally
>they sound completely different
>can't decide which atmosphere I like more

>metal fuses with EDM

please nooo

++++ AxCx, Vaginal Jesus
+ Scum
Also, you should listen to GISM m8
++ Darkthrone, Archgoat
+ At The Gates, Demilich, Nocturnus

Loved WG when it came out, but it's really growing old super fast.

I think it would sound like this...

youtube.com/watch?v=O-Vb08vyvpE

ye, very standard and basic but works

I just love how it all flows like one long track. Any other albums like this?

dont worry, after the edmetal apocalypse someone will fuse metal with IDM and new weird frontiers will be found

>IDM

Interplanetary Dance Music?

I don't listen to metal, and I find the sound of most I've heard offputting - idk, it sounds too cheesy and tryhard to me.
Any recs of what to try based on that?

Edge of Sanity's Crimson 2.
Most people prefer Crimson 1 but its unlistenable garbage to me.

Insomnium's albums in general have that kind of flowy style where all songs feel like logical continuations.

I would also recommend In Mourning's Monolith for the similar vibe, alto its not a single song.

Well what have you listened to? And what do you normally listen to?

intelligent dance music

dance music to twiddle your beard too, intelligent dance music

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_dance_music

metal is supposed to be aggressive and off putting you sissy mary

Purgatory Afterglow is their best album though

Sounds euphoric

relax my friend, the core-shit is not true heavy metal despite what retards say. it's ok.

Thanks I'll check it out

r8

Every genre of music is euphoric in it's own autistic way.

is djentstep the logical conclusion to metal?

youtube.com/watch?v=YjjmM3w2t_g

IDM is just a shitty genre nam, most of the 'IDM' artist dislike the term.

...

Stuff like metallica and iron maiden, but also some newer metal bands I've heard talked about but I can't remember the name of. Oh and I can't stand Tool either.
Things like shredding just to show off technical ability tick me off particularly.

And I like a lot of different stuff, but post punk, post hardcore and noise rock are three genres I particularly tend to enjoy.

So you like gay music? Yeah sorry, you can't be helped buddy.

>post hardcore and post punk

yes

Post-punk is pretty good though.

Here m8, listen to this
youtube.com/watch?v=crbP6lA_XOU

for the resident post-homosexual lover, you might enjoy this.

youtube.com/watch?v=PYUJkg2SiZA

So do you like Fall of Efrafa? There's a lot of Metal to be explored from here on. Look at Lightbearer, Downfall of Gaia or Vestiges for example. If you like Noise Rock like Melt Banana, look into Grindcore.

just djent it up mate

peripheralls 1-3
tesseracts
monuments
muhsuggahs
big 4

>And I like a lot of different stuff, but post punk, post hardcore and noise rock are three genres I particularly tend to enjoy.
maybe you'll like stuff like Whorls and Celeste then

whorlsband.bandcamp.com/album/petrichor
celestes.bandcamp.com/album/morte-s-nee-s

I wouldn't interpret either of those bands as bands that shred for shredding sake, at least not in their best stuff, a lot of their stuff is ambitious, you can interpret that as try hard if you want but that's an incredibly simple way of viewing the music.

Check out Converge - Jane Doe for some chaotic hardcore with metal fused in
Check out these if you want something slow and heavy:
Godflesh - Streetcleaner
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone

I'd also recommend the one's mentioned here:

One is the best Metallica song, prove me wrong.

sounds straight out of those 1- 800, 80's music cd compilation commercials that came on tv back when i still watched tv

>not listening to Gehenna, the thrashcore band
youtube.com/watch?v=Dr0H8KdEYKs

what's that album with the really lazy album cover that's just a photo of a forest fire?

I got you fAm

youtube.com/watch?v=vVWmqZCtsZw

Just read thru the thread. What a shitshow. Get some cheap beers up in ya, pussies

Pantera's all you need. They completely cleaned house of all the 80s glam posturing, and bestowed upon us some most righteous riffs.

Has there really been anything that worthwhile since? Tech-metal is fucking lame, man

Phil's new record is okay I guess

youtube.com/watch?v=_--UqA7IWtA

Trailer trash detected, move on people.

go to sleep dad. get a job too.

no that one

Their glam albums are unironically the best stuff they ever released, and even those suck ass

I got half of satan's trips, so I must be at least half right

Don't get me wrong, I go to plenty of metal shows but there's just nothing with this attitude anymore

Metal, like anything, has become so sanitised and commercialised, you know what I mean?

Take your Pro Tools 1000BPM gravity blasts and shove em up your ass

U

we dun need none o' that queer ass "tech" metal them kids listen to these days
what happened to all the real metal?

One of my co-workers is straight up trailer trash and he praises Pantera

Pantera gets more shit than they deserve on /metal/ but what you also on the other spectrum fail to understand is that Pantera was the tech pro tools 1000bpm of their own time.

Bossk - audio noir for some decent instrumental sludge/doom

Speaking of Pantera, I really recommend Rex Brown's book. It's a very easy read and entertaining.

They were the mallcore of their time and basically inspired the shitshow that was nu "metal"

/Anti-Islamic black metal/
youtube.com/watch?v=5jLlChbWEEM

Can someone explain to me in a nonmeme way why this band gets so much shit? I know all coreshit will be shat on but why are these guys criticized so harshly?

Nu-metal came way before Pantera's metal albums you dumb fuck. You can thank Max Cavalera for that.

because lucas mann is a hack

I see this criticism of them all the time, but they're no more responsible for nu-metal than Alice in Chains was for Godsmack, or Pearl Jam was for Creed. Its no fault of those bands that they were influential

Pantera, themselves, fucking ripped. Get hip to it, nerd

I hear this a lot but how exactly?

>Nu-metal came way before Pantera's metal albums you dumb fuck
>Cowboys from Hell was released in 1990
Yeah m8 totally
Also Sarcofago >>>> Sepultura

South of Heaven is their best album IMO.

2 former band members have said they record at half speed

Show No Mercy is the best Slayer Album though
Prove me wrong

Probably Anicon - Exegeses
I found it funny because the first 45 seconds of the first track sound like Bad Religion

If you dumb shits had even remotely insight into just how much editing and fuckery goes into literally ANY metal album in the past 20 years, this half-time shit wouldn't really upset you nearly as much. Everything gets edited and fucked with beyond normal limits, that;s just how its done.

There are bands that literally punch in every single note seperately. It's the final product that matters and should matter. Otherwise we should all just listen to garage demos.

With that said, RoS is shit, Lucas Mann is shit, that entire spacecore faggotry needs to die.

digging this so far, thanks

You're getting it twisted. If anything, Pantera were proto-metalcore. Not nu-metal.

I mean they're both shitty subgenres but they sound nothing alike. The key parts of nu-metal are a hip-hop and electronic influence, and rapped vocals. Does that sound like Pantera to you? Faith No More, maybe, but not Pantera

Close, but no.

Razörfist's rant was pretty entertaining. And yes, Banger fucking sucks.

Seen it and liked it very much.

Hell Awaits.

Is he our boy, though? He hates death metal with a passion.

What using it when you talk to people about metal and you talk about Blue Oyster Cult, most people draw blanks?

Why is that Cred Forums?
How can such an amazing influential band be so easily forgotten?

Tasteless plebs?

Most people on this board are underage and basically everything is "dad rock" to them
And dad rock=bad
They're retarded 2bh

ur welcome

He hates my fave metal bands too (Megadeth and Pantera) but he's still our boy

The good thing about metal is its a huge umbrella term under which you can pick and choose what you dig, but at the end of the day we're all in it together, against these would-be PMRC jerkoffs

It irritates me that this band has made so many good songs over the years and it's most memorable one to people is from literally their worst album.
Don't fear the reaper isn't even a great song in itself. BOC have so many songs that are so much better.

And they never were.

True.

Hell no, they're dogshit.

Burning for you is one of my favourite songs ever 2bh
