Pic unrelated.

What's your favorite Pokemon

Beedrill. I have no idea why. Didn't really get into the whole pokemon thing back in the day though, guess I was slightly too old.

how many heroin ods have you delt with

I have no idea. Many. Not a glamorous way to go.

Current EMS

Thoughts on the narcan available like candy?

Got a few idiot calls now for idiots who OD, get a buddy to hit'em with Narcan and go right back to it. Then they OD again. We show up, they're non responsive and need to get bagged n shit. Fuckin twats.

Have you ever had to cut a hole in somebodys throat to stop them from choking on their own blood? also how much stress would you say your job has brought you? I want to be a rescue worker but I feel like seeing people fucked up all the time would have a severe mental toll on my mind

not OP but nursefag; i've seen same kid 3x in a week OD on heroin and refuse to get tx for his addiction. I've seen about 5 deaths in 2 weeks b/c local shit being cut with fentanyl

Other EMS guy here. I had 3 between two 6 hour shifts this week.

I usually would be all buddy-buddy as they woke up, trying to convince them to come with us to the ER, exactly so we wouldn't have to get up again in two hours and kneel in piss and puke all over again at the same adress. If that failed, I tried getting "strict", more or less trying to scare/command them to come along. Neither approach usually worked very well. It's a sad scene, and frustrating as all hell, especially when it's young people who are new to the game, so to speak.

You NY? Been dealing with that problem for 6 months now. That and the occasional fuck up who completed rehab and gets all pissy about life and relapses back to full strength.

Is this a real picture of John Lennon? Or is it shopped

Is MDS coordinator a thing outside of nursing homes?

Oh, I never have a problem getting them to come. We have cops with us on 95% of our calls so once they're mildly AnO, I tell them they can either come with us to the hospital or take a ride to the precinct.

EMT here. Undecided which route to take nursing or paramedic. I like the stability and hours of nursing but hate having to be in the same building.

I like the autonomy of being a paramedic but find it might burn me out in the future.

Unless you can get sponsorship, fuck being a para. That argument between them and nurses is nothing new but if I have to hear about a fucking CNA getting paid more than my ALS guys one more goddamn time...

>cut a hole in somebody's throat
Not me personally, I've assisted anesthesiologists with it though. And you typically wouldn't do that based on choking on blood, more likely when there's a blockage or laryngeal spasms closing the airways entirely. A tracheostomy is usually an "oh shit" last resort.

> Stress
Had trouble sleeping properly on my 24/48 hour shifts in the ambulance the first few years. I've learned to cope and relax more with the years. In my opinion, being able to talk it out with your colleagues after things have gone to shit is paramount to deal with the things we see and do sometimes. Some things will stay with you forever regardless of how you cope with it though. All in all, I think I'm doing ok, but saying that it's for everyone would probably be lying.

Re: stress

A lot of us drink. Can't smoke cause if we get that one call we're brought to scrutiny, QA piss tests and then we're real fucked.

Florida actually

...

I believe it's real, but I couldn't tell you. I like to believe that it is.

Had to google that, not really a thing where I live/work. In pretty much any type of ward facility here, including hospitals, putting up and updating individual care plans for patient is the responsibility of each and every nurse, alternatively the "head nurse" of the ward in question. Whether it's actually properly followed up everywhere is another question.

Well, I live in Norway, and back then I worked in what you'd call a "rural" area near a city. Add to it that the police were (and are) understaffed as fuck, so we very, very rarely had police escorts on OD's unless there were reason to believe (duh) that someone there might be a little.. Off their rocker.

I worked on the ambulance for several years after finishing my nursing bachelor. I get where you're coming from, but me personally, I'd go with nursing again if it were a question. The day comes for most people when they'd like to move on from being on the ambulance, and nursing gives a huge platform for you to do whatever the fuck you'd like when that day comes. Paramedic, not so much. I still miss that freedom and variety sometimes though.

Also this, to some extent. The realization that I sometimes didn't want, but really needed some beers after my shift was scary to me. Still do sometimes, even though I know all too well that it's a shitty thing to do that doesn't solve anything. It just feels a little better right then and there.

You're goddamn right I am lol.

ever role play doctor?

Thanks I'll look more into nursing. FF/Paramedic was my goal but lots have people have told me it's not all it's worked up to be.

No one in their right minds would want to fantasize about being a doctor, mate.

Depends a little on where in the world you are as well, I guess. Might be a chance for you to get work in the ambulance with a nursing background and some extra courses/education as well. Or I guess you could always do both if you can be bothered. Best of luck, friend.

ok, ever fuck a doctor at your hospital?

Why am I still a virgin?

Thanks man I'll need it.

Not at my hospital, but did date a doctor way back when. Wouldn't recommend it.

The answer to that is likely right in front of you.

What is the worst issue you have ever had with a driver? I used to drive an ambulance and some of the morons my company hired astounded me.

>in front of you
In the mirror?

Nurses, yes. Don't do it, cause you don't shit where you sorta eat.

Not really a question, just more of a personal thing but in high school ( all of 3 years ago) I wanted to be a paramedic. Even took a year long EMT class but once I went on a 12 hour ride along, realized I couldn't take the stress of people's lives being in my hands. Anything medic I couldn't handle. Guess it makes me a punk ass but whatever

Driver/paramedic/emt wasn't really a distinction for us. Everyone I worked with were expected to be able to both handle the medical work and be certified for emergency driving. We usually divided it into driving/having the patient in turns, every other callout each. That said, yes there are some jackasses. Personally, I've dealt with it by direct confrontation. I'd appreciate coming home alive, and so would the patient probably. No emergency is worth my life.

More like literally right at this moment. Get out and socialize, buddy. And yes, it is actually that simple. Or, assuming it's a lady you'd like to lose your virginity to, getting a shit ton of money to your name would also be a way to go about it.

OK so I'm just commenting to let you know that that picture had me laughing so fucking hard idk why

What's the most adrenaline you have ever injected into someone and why?

Ever jerked off a patient?

what determined you to quit ambulance work for Cred Forums?

How many gold fillings have you stolen?

What's the most disgusting thing you have seen stuck up someone's ass?

Wife is a nurse also, works just fine. Don't work in the same place as her neither, though. Relationships/sex with people you work with never work out, doesn't matter if you're a medical professional or cashier at the supermarket. It's gonna go to shit.

And I mean in general, doctors are nearly their own species, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. That's just in the opinion of this bitter, half-old man though, so you'd to well to not listen to me in that regard.

I wouldn't say so. Like i posted earlier, it's not for everyone. Kudos to you for admitting that that's the case for you. There are those who are intent of getting into this line of work regardless, based on expectations they made up before getting a taste of the reality of it, and it's not fair to patients, co-workers or yourself. At the end of the day, good on you, I hope you've found, or that you will find, something that feels worthwhile and right for you.

Ever touched a patients nuts and boned up?

Imma in love wit nurse that brought me back to life, how do I tell her that IOve her?

Yeah thanks man. Since I was a kid I always wanted to do something to help others and always thought paramedics were the coolest, but when I realized the reality I just didn't want to take a chance on not making the right call and getting someone killed. I'm a maintenance mechanic now, so just take care of machines worth thousands of dollars but still less stressful than actual lives

Not the OP but I was supposed to be lead on the first emergency call I did my first week but my mind went blank and my partner with a year experience took over. I learned from it and can't handle them now just stay calm and get your assessment down with practice. The emergencies in the company I work for aren't that life threatening but more just a transport to the ER for something that can't wait for the next day.

Beats a desk job for sure but you definitely have to be comfortable talking with people. Give it another chance maybe work as an EMT for a bit then try to move into ER Tech to get hands on experience with a full hospital staff to give you guidance. I was too worried of everything that could go wrong but with experience I became more comfortable as an EMT.

Paramedic is a whole other level and probably won't ever be 100% comfortable but experience is a big part with confidence. Best of luck friend.

It's fucking John Lennon doing the mother of all pimp walks, of course it's funny.

7-8 milligrams IV I think. Cardiac arrest where the helicopter crew came out to assist, anesthesiologist wanted us to keep going despite the patient in reality probably was past the point of no return before even we showed up.

No.

I always had a thing for moot. RIP.

None. Maybe I should start, I don't get paid nearly enough still.

Not sure, I usually find objects stuck in rectal cavities hilarious as shit, no pun intended. The one I remember best was this guy in the ER in full BDSM leather outfit with a cucumber up his ass, who went on to explain how his fridge was leaking, and he accidentally slipped in the water puddle that gathered on the floor in front of it. To his great misfortune, the cucumber was allegedly laying just right on the floor, onto which he landed ass first, hence the cucumber-in-ass predicament he now found himself in. I couldn't hold it and left the room, ER doc didn't give two shits and just laughed right in the guys face.

*Can handle them now
Still questionable I guess

What's the most disturbing thing you have ever seen when on duty?

>touched a patients nuts
Of course I have.
>boned up
Not sure what this even means, but probably not.

You should probably try to find her on facebook, stand outside her house at night, send her love letters with letters pieced out from different newspapers/magazines, that sort of thing. Nurses love stalkers who think they're in love.

What this guy is saying is also very true - it's never going to be something you're completely comfortable with. There are plenty of "oh shitshitshit" moments, there are fuckups, and you're always going to feel a bit uncertain about many of the things you deal with. The day you feel 100% comfortable and in control in this sort of work, then it's time to move on before you really, really fuck up out of indifference.

That's the thing though, for some, that right there is a huge turnoff, something they don't want to live with. For me, at least for many years, it was almost addicting - the adrenaline rush, and that amazing feeling of getting it right when it really matters.

Car accident, family of four, mother was driving and was decapitated by flying bits of metal. Her head was in the back seat with the two kids, both under 10 years old, who were both conscious. That one's probably going to stay with me forever, and I had a few months after that when wasn't doing too good. Like really not good.

That's nasty. Well, I'm glad you "got over it" at least to some degree.

Oh I'm more referencing the casual sex deal. I wouldn't be comfortable working in the same place as my significant other though.

Casual sex in the workplace tends to go to shit all the same, take my word for it. It's been rigorously tested on my end, all the way back from my nursing student days. Great fun for a short while, always a shitty aftermath.

Lol ergo, don't shit where you eat.

Yes. And also don't date doctors.
