Dr. Dre doesn't get enough credit for basically inventing everything in the rap game post-1992 (and arguably post-1988). Lots of the biggest, most influential names in rap were discovered/mentored by him.

Music isn't a history lesson, it's meant to alter your mindstate in a positive way. Good beats, a unique voice and style are far more important than lyrics in rap. Least Coast snobs would realize that if lyrics wasn't their only strong point 80% of the time.
