Have you put any thought into a revolver? Them when you shoot someone, you don't leave casings laying around. Check out the LCR with Lazer grip. It's right in your price range.

I can cinfirm this. I had a Pt840c and the trigger bar disconnected from trigger...talk about not saving my life.. It was brand new. But they do have an excellent warranty and fixed for free. Had to ship it through UPS. But, i hear that the newer models are good but i still dont trust it.

I meant that when guns hit a certain size range in smallness they are difficult to shoot well.
For instance, I have a ruger lcp. It fits in front pocket, goes anywhere. Due to it's small size, you can not get a full grip on it, so accuracy suffers. The Shield is larger, can be gripped like a regular pistol, so is more accurate. Plus, smaller guns have smaller sights and smaller sight radius, so will be less accurate. And, longer barrels are always more accurate than shorter. Rifles have long barrels for a reason. Bullet speed will be faster in a longer barrel than a shorter one, and bullet speed has a lot to do with accuracy, particularly at longer ranges.

Get a polish P64 Makarov, they cost about $250 and are pretty small. Spend the rest on buying a good abount of 9x18 and a nice holster. Buy some fmgs for breaking it in and some hollow points for carry. Remember this doesn't shoot 9x19 but it will never jam and is a really good cheap pistol.

I have a G19: 9mm, double stack, 15rd (iirc), double recoil spring for soft recoil, small but not too small. The G17 is a little larger and fits in my hands better but it's probably a hair big for concealed carry, even the G19 is about as large as you'd want to conceal on a regular basis.

My wife has a G42: .380 ACP, single stack 7rd. It's good for her but feels very small in my hands, plus 15rd > 7rd

The G43 is a single stack 9mm, but I think its the same size as the G42

My G19 is surprisingly low recoil and mitch softer to fire than I had expected. Most 9mm after about 100rds I'm done with it but the G19 I could shoot all day long.

Whatever you do get range time and practice, don't think that just having it is good enough, train and have fun shooting it. You'll most likely never need it for defense so get something you'll want to take to the range.

Only weird thing about glock is they're not pretty and the safety is questionable. I got over the aesthetics and now like how they look, they're utilitarian. If I was going to carry I wouldn't leave one in the pipe, too risky for my taste. I'll take the chance that if I ever need to use it ill have time to rack it first.

I have a P22, it's sexy and fun but I wouldn't carry it. 10rds of 22, meh. Plus there's a chance that you pull the trigger and it doesn't go bang, or the round doesn't extract. Mine is picky about ammo.

I getcha - also, my women students I recommend a holster for their purse too to keep negligent discharges from occurring.

Strangely enough, one of each. Seems to clear with a bit of internal polishing so I think it's just a rough finish issue on the "feed ramp" area. Hangs exactly like a limp wristed shot on a 1911. I think that there may be a little area that powder residue builds up right at the chamber lip.
