If you refuse delivery, it's not been in your hands, and it's between the seller and the delivery company to work it out.

I would take it for evidence and because it could be faster to get a replacement. Amazon, for example, will normally send a replacement before receiving the item being returned. You could have a replacement on the way that day. Letting it just get sent back seems like it could take longer.

The store will handle the talks with the courier because if you go to the courier first, high chances is that it will take a while before you get the new item.
