Do dentists apply evidence based principles to their practice? Every interaction I have with a dentist, I'm left with the impression they are not bound to the same moral and ethical standards of evidence based medicine as real doctors. Flossing is no longer recommended in the federal government's dietary guidelines because there is little evidence that it promotes healthy gums. They are always trying to sell bullshit treatments like painting fluoride on your teeth. Its despicable that a field which maintains a relatively high level of respect from the public, conducts itself like a bunch of shills. They are one step above herbal supplement sales people. Any dentist fags care to weigh in?

bad b8 is bad.

Technically dentists aren't doctors.
They are technicians like anesthesiologists.
So yeah, they don't have the same moral code.

Anesthesiologists graduate from medical school and are medical doctors. Nurse anesthetists are the technicians that do the job of the anesthesiologists for much less money.

My dentist was a life saver.
I had a whole in my tooth and she fixed it up in no time. Painful as shit through.

Just like doctors, there are good ones who fix health issues and don't fuck around with the faff, and there are shit ones who are in it to make money and give bullshit advice to make more money.

Im a dentist. Feel free to ask your questions.

What's the most teeth you've removed from one person's mouth?

Dentists themselves follow guidelines.
But those who make the guidelines for the doctors are not doctors, this is the issue.

Flossing is absolutely beneficial and provide no setbacks. When they stopped recommended flossing I laughed for days.

The pure simple logic of bio-chemistry that Bacterias like a oxygen-free environment and like to be untouched, they like an an-aerobic environment which means oxygen-free.

Just by mechanically cleaning your teeth with a brush and flossing between, in the gums, you destroy bacterias environment and create circulation aka oxygen which they hate.

We will get into "conspiracy theories" to go the the root source, lets not do that now.
But the doctors are doctors, those making the guidelines are not doctors and are only in the game to hurt and depopulate Humanity.

A Medical Doctor prescribes all kinds of shit, creating more issues than they solve.
Do you think high-pressured pills containing all kinds of synthethic shit aka Medicine is a natural occuring thing?

The whole medical field is like that.

Not that many, "a few". But Im not doing that kind of treatment for the most part.

>flossing is no longer recommened
>there is little evidence that it promotes healthy gums.

Try not flossing for fucking years and having red gums
instead of pink and having pieces of gum cut off because
it was pulling away from the teeth only to have it all
go back to normal by flossing every day.

>ITT
>OP got fucked by the dentist and now wants us to hate them the same

How do i tell if my kike dentist is ripping me off and giving me procedures i dont need?

How many times have you logged onto pubmed or read a peer reviewed journal article this month?

Very hard to tell. People are very different.
Me personally I never fool anyone.

But regardless of being a doctor or not, fucking when I need to get any work done on my car I go to different shops, and just like everyone else; some are serious and do quality work, and some try to rip you off.

Its hard to give any useful answer to this, as dentistry is such a complex field.

Funny though when I go to a doctor with relatives without telling them who I am, then I instantly can tell if they are honest or not.

I read articles all the time, many times.

Are guidelines evidence based? If guidelines are made by non dentists, why follow them, why not conduct the necessary research to discover true helpful therapies and use those. That's how medicine works. Do dentists do clinical research? What the fuck is a high-pressured pill?

My dad is a dentist. Besides the regular stuff like extractions, root canals and what not there is NOT evidence base for all that stuff you are talking about. It is entirely a money making venture and driven by fads and the celebrity look. Most of his money is made from vanity and fad work. Some of his business partners do ONLY fad and vanity work since there is way more money in that compared to actually medically necessary work.

I haven't flossed in years. I have no problems.

Stop saying "doctor" if you are referring to a dentists.

Thus is kind of what I figured. Thanks

Bad dentists can ruin lives.

Good dentists can save lives.

Find a good doctor, be aware of who you interact with. Don't trust anyone, but allow those who pass your tests to do their job.

Dentists get the title of Dr. in Europe, where I'm from. Don't know what it's like in other countries.

I've read that UV light on teeth whiting peroxide gels does little to expedite the whitening process. Is this true?

>Are guidelines evidence based?
All guidelines are "evidence based".
But giant corporations are paying specialists and universities and faculties millions and millions.

Colgate make billion of dollars, so ofcourse they will fund researchers who say "fluoride is good".
Will they pour money on faculties who denies fluoride being good, and admit its a rat poison (which is it)?

All the medical-industrial-complex set the rules.

And all other are too afraid of their career to stand up. So social pressure, like always, prevents development.

Dentists make clinical research, but when Colgate funds the research they will but their agenda on it.

Then you have the maxillofacial surgeons who are dentists what have gone to medical school...

Hello dentist man when will we have enamel replacements for my teef? I got these whitespots on them. But they're not very noticeable until you get real close but they bug me alot.

So when can we have new enamel or enamel like stuff to fill the white spots? thanks.

Citations needed bro.

Engineers, computer scientists and others can get a Dr. degree, too. So what's the point?

I guess I really should go to a dentist sometime soon, to check for holes. But I won't get any of the extra paid stuff. I think most of the individual medical treatments or just rubbish though.

... and Surgeons in the UK drop the Dr title and become Mr. again. It's stupid but whatever.

>Stop saying "doctor" if you are referring to a dentists.

Its up to each countrys Health authorities to grant and decide who is a Dr and who is not.

Usually a "PhD" means Philosphy Doctor. In most countries one may complete a "Doctorate" in any subject, e.g. economy.
You may be a doctor of Economy, Chemistry, Medicine etc.

Doctor is derived from Latin language, and means "to teach", or simply "teacher". Its a respectful title which commonly in daily use means a Physician, Dentist or various Surgeons (depending on the countrys health authorities).

In some European countries you previously had to finish Medical school first, then after you may move to Dental school, and then after that you may specialise in a certain field.
Meaning Dentist have a high academic status because of this.

Now the system usually is different, but still you study most if not all the medicine.
In University we had many subjects together with Medical Doctor students, we did all the biopsy, anatomy, medical physics etc together.

Also many countries who dont grant the title Dr for Dentists, grant the title Dr once you specialise or once you become a Surgeon.

So the title Doctor is confusing, and differs from region to region, and in some places Dentists are more educated than doctors.

Many Physician in the clinic talk to me about treatments, ask me for advice and sometimes refer patients to me.
A regular Physician is not at all as educated on the face region as a Dentist, while Physicians studied stuff like Internal Medicine in greater detail than a Dentist.

Hello Dentist man you didn't answer my question like you said you would. Pls.

Good post

Basically it is true.

"Enamel replacements for my teeth". Pure cellular matrix replacement which are identical to your teeth will take long time. And probably will be prevented anyways as it would make current industry of fillings to go out of business.

But recent improvement in Stem Cells research etc and Growing of new organs, I think in the future this development of replacing any Human cell regardless of its kind is likely.

Those white spots are probably from Fluorosis, too high Fluoride consumption during the formation of your current teeth, it happened like at before age of 10, so nothing you can do now.

Just let them be and accept it. To drill out healthy teeth because of aesthetic concerns should not be done.

My dentist lady called them "decal"

But the problem here dentist man is that I am worried all the time now. What if my other teef get it. My dentist lady says they are the first signs of cavities. Some on there seem to have dug past a layer of enamels already. But it's been like that for 3 years, and it hasn't dug any further. What if one day I forget to brush one night and then the white spots become cavities?

Maybe we will have Ghost in the Shell bodies soon and I can just change to one with nice teefs.

>Do dentists apply evidence based principles to their practice?

>this child's mouth is too small
>I must pull more teeth out
>now I will wire the teeth together to close the gaps
>now the child's jaw is even smaller, the problem is solved!

Ask yourself that question.

Who knows about future developments.
Even if such products exists and prove to be efficient there are many obstacles to overcome.

Such products need a great amount of testing before getting released in as a major way like current filling-technology.
Also dentist must believe in the technology and the suppliers selling them as well, as people would be afraid of lawsuits etc, and would blame the new tech for their bad oral health.

Anyway, white spots can be from the formation of the tooth.

Or if you are starting to see spots in recent years, it probably in your case is the early stage of a cavity, the enamel is starting to get dissolved, thats what you are seeing.
You have to visit a dentist in order to tell, if you upload a pic I might be able to give you more details.

To put it simply, avoid sugar and acidity. You can start by avoiding sodas and soft drinks, also every drink which contains carbonic acid, even sparkling water, is bad as it is very low PH-value making it acidic.
Teeth enamel get dissolved from acidic environment.

Not sure whats your point is.

There is tremendous amount of research behind treatments, generations of research.
Tens of thousands of research hours in fact, and hundreds of thousands or millions patients data used to ratify treatments.

Current research, whats cost efficient, what can a patient afford, and what does corporations like Colgate want is the result of treatment options.

Is it normal for me to get an erection during a tooth extraction?

I got a root canal done and a cap put on and it made my mouth septic and caused me to have horrible health problems since then I want to buy this book and read it and see what this bullshit is about

amazon.com/Toxic-Tooth-canal-could-making/dp/0983772827/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1431364806&sr=8-1&keywords=the toxic tooth

That gril in the ad is hot. Would bone.

A whole what?

Root canal is the most controversial treatment in Dentistry.

You have bacterias at the bottom of the tooth, and then you seal it of creating a Anaerobic environment (oxygen free environment which bacterias LOVE).

Most teeth which are root filled will be extracted within 5-10 years.

Though there are no other known way to keep such a teeth in the mouth, the option is to extract it directly.
One might gamble and keep the teeth for another 5-10 years, depending on the patients situation, economy or age.

A 75 year old man I would just pull the teeth.
But a 22 year old girl who are keen about her mouth, then you would root fill it.

Also, you need to refill the teeth and flush it, creating a flow of oxygen.

Not many doctors understand this concept.

I only drink sodas through straws now because I am scared of creating more rough white spots. My dentist lady said that if you have to drink sodas do it through straws.

Sometimes I think about permanent replacement teef, but then I read about them, and it said that sometimes they come unscrewed from your jaw, and then they have to drill more holes in your jaw to put it back. Very spooks.

My only insecurity about myself is my teef. Mostly. I am afraid of losing hair though.

Maybe I can put my brain in the robot someday and have better teef.

do you huff the nos
