the witch paints its world sparsely and the horror comes from what the viewer brings with them - it primes your imagination and gives enough space for that to flourish

I was on a psychologically delicate phase, already watched most of the fucked up films that showed up here on the chans, i was into meditation and those stuff...
So first time I watched it, properly isolated from noise, light and other distractions, I almost had an anxiety attack
I recommended it to a friend, who later told me he had to stop watching by half the movie and went outside to take some air, because he almost couldn't bear it.
It even still trigger a painful feel whenever I remember about it

The fact that the witch mixes the fat with herbs and uses a broomstick to rub the concoction in her vajayjay is actually historically accurate. Many natural hallucinogens (say, Amanita muscaria or Clavisceps purpurea) are lipophilic and would dissolve nicely in animal fat, plus the mucus of the vagina could absorb the drug rather easily without digesting any bit of it. It is believed that said practice involving broomsticks gave birth to the idea of them being used by witches as transportation. This is one of my favourite films. Not because of some edgy bullshit that I like the things that happen, but I genuinely feel like this is a masterpiece because it sends such a deep, primal feeling of disgust through your whole system. It's not trying to sensationalize or shock in it's ways, it's just downright disturbing.

Good flick. I wouldn't call it horror or even soul-crushing but it's certainly worth the watch.
