Also, to the "fanbase is cancer" comments: 90% of my encounters in the fanbase have ranged from good to amazing. While yes there is the terrible portion (Undertail, Underfell, fontcest, etc.), it really just boils down to a vocal minority destroying the credibility of the silent majority.

Didn't play the game until 2 months ago. Respectable story, good feels, and the occasional 4th wall break makes it interesting.(and this is coming from a guy who could not keep up with EarthBound) Most of the fanwork is shit, apart from various covers of the games songs.

Absolutely loved the game. I understand why it was so hyped, and I think people who don't like it either don't understand what the writer was trying to do, or they are just stuck in shoot-em-up type games. Personally, out of all the games that came out this year, I had the most unadulterated fun playing this one, and I've played it all three times (that it takes to get all the endings). Hell, even the "well-respected" Metacritic gave it a 92, so people bitching about it are bitching just to bitch. People love to bitch about things that are popular!

I think what really gets me about Undetale was how fast the fanbase went to absolute shit.
Undertale was released in September, and it wasn't all that popular until about December-January. It was everywhere. And with its popularity came the inevitable porn and AU's. (They're both absolute garbage.)
This game was, what, 6 or 7 months old before you could easily find pictures of Daddy Dom Papyrus or Flowey with a dick, not to mention people killing themselves for being against a ship, which earned them rape and death threats.
Point is, this is the fastest a fandom has risen and fallen. Even Homestuck was destroyed slower than this.

I've met more than one person that is able to call themselves a Sonic fan and simply enjoy the media without being totally autistic. They're still fuckin weird, and there's not many of them at all, but they do exist. I actually really like the game. I played it twice, my first being a blind/normal playthrough and my second being a true pacifist. I think that it may be a tad overhyped, but I think it is really good. I fucking hate the fanbase though, makes me wanna kill myself.

I fucking loved it. I was lucky to play it without knowing much about it so the hype didn't really affect me at all. I grew up playing SNES JRPGs including Earthbound so it was right up my alley. Especially loved how creepy and dark it got in the Genocide route.
