Same. Has best soundtrack on the Snes.

Bump. Trying to find a new snes game to download for my emulator. Preferably a rpg I need suggestions

I go back and forth between EB, Chrono Trigger, and LTtP.

I'll go ahead and disqualify CT, seeing as how the DS release was definitely the definitive version.

LTTP??

link to the past

still my favorite zelda, but a link between worlds did a lot of shit just right, giving it second place IMO

Never cared for the old overhead view zelda games

I prefer the 2d top-down style and Zelda II.
other than minish cap, the mechanics are always so much more tight.
breath of the wild has me excited because it has the possibility of being the first difficult 3d zelda

Could never do with that game, I tried. It's just too childish in it's presentation.

Star Ocean, Tales of Phantasia?

If you play CT, I'd suggest a better translation, but that's just me. I just cannot stand Woolsey. He is so bland and boring that I could never finish the original SNES version of FF VI.

Chrono Trigger, Tales of Phantasia, Terranigma.

The best JRPGs were the SNES era ones. Well, except FF7.

Terranigma, Tales of Phantasia.

In terms of story, Terranigma.

>It's just too childish in it's presentation.
the graphic style, maybe, but it contrasts so well with the fucked up stuff going on in that game.

honestly, i never understood that point of view. It'd be like not liking mario releases because they are too "cartoony"

everything else in that game is dark as shit

Muh nigga.

mine is sonic 3

Are those better than secret of mana

Yeah I mean the last boss was a giant aborted fetus.

>plebound
are you faggot?

Miles better.

The gameplay of Terranigma is similar to Secret of Mana, but the story is seriously epic.

I thought this was/b/ not Cred Forums get the fuck off my board. Also link to the past is a great game

secret of mana is fun, but it's so loose in design.

I thought the battle system was great. The story was great. The characters were great. The only thing I could say that was a bit childish might be some of the dialogue here and there but I think overall it's a great game.

>implying you can actually have a conversation about vidya on Cred Forums

Also sorry faggot, we'll let you get back to your trap and gay porn threads.

Fuck guys, Terranigma was so good.
I personally loved Super Metroid the most in terms of gameplay, but Terranigma had the best music and story imo.

Not only the graphics. Also the music and the way the text was written was just too childish.

I am also one who needs to have a good setting. That's why I consider FF IX to be vastly superior than IV or VI. Or FFVII. Earthbound nearly did that for me, but destroyed everything with its presentation.

Super Metroid!

And I have a weakness for BoF2

...

No shit nigger. I wanted to dig the minds of the Cred Forums community for their opinion. Get outta my thread bitch

I remember the first time I played Terranigma, with the whole idyllic starter village thing. Was thinking "Oh great, another generic JRPG."

Then you get into the real game and it fucking blew my mind.

you enjoy the dragon warrior games?

Kek

I mean...FFIX had an amazing setting, but so did VII.

I'm seriously torn between the two games.

>Also the music
first person in history to complain about the music in Earthbound

Terranigma was definitely up there with its ending along, but the best RPG ever made IMO was Gothic 1. I have yet to find a game that draws me into its world as much as this game did.

>And I have a weakness for BoF2
i get that. I'm aware that they are clunky and not designed very well, I'm willing to admit that. But bof1 introduced me to jrpgs and I'll always love it for that

baldur's gate II wants to talk

Nigga, Gothic 1 wasn't on SNES. If we're opening up to include all RPGs then the Fallout series would like a word.

VII was lackluster because you couldn't explore Midgard. If they would have done it like Lindblum in IX, I might have to agree with you.

Also, IX tried to do all the good things that old FFs did, and succeeded.
No, I am serious. I cannot work with this music at all.

Secret of Evermore

terraria

What about the battle and leveling up systems for terranigma? Is it just like every other choose your move battle sequence rpg?

I disagree. I disagree hard.

Damn nigga... The Gothic series just happens to be my favourite of all video games. I was talking about Terranigma only though in terms of SNES games, as this is what this thread is about.

>SNES thread

>choose your move battle sequence rpg
that wasn't even a trope at the time terranigma was released

Terranigma, Secret Of Evermore, Lufia 2 and Treasure Of The Rudras are among my fav RPGs.
Yoshi's Island and Demon's Crest for platformers.
There are some nice Beat Em Ups like the TMNT too.

>ever made

I agree about IX. It and V are my favorite FF's

I will say that you are definitely the first person I've ever heard complain about the music in earthbound. There are composers out there that worship that soundtrack, as well as the whole beatles thing

Shit it's been a long time since I played Terranigma, the fighting is a lot like Legend of Zelda. Can't remember what levelling was like but I remember it being pretty basic, like ding + stat boost.

>SNES thread

Chrono Trigger

Rudra no hiho was a bit too repetitive in gameplay to my taste. Lufia 2 lost me when the main character suddenly ditched his almost-GF for a bitch he didn't even know properly.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest had good music and was kind of funny

>ever made

>SNES thread

no, it was morrowind

MQ had REALLY good boss music. A real shame that it got wasted on such a toned-down game.

minecraft

>I disagree. I disagree hard.

riiight

wasn't it actually part of the mana series?

Morrowind has terrible gameplay. I tried getting into it, but all I ever thought was "Oblivion is a thousand times better".

The setting might be better in MW, I dunno. But the gameplay is what drove me away from that game.

ikr youtube.com/watch?v=KMYXYewC0Y0

...

I think i love Treaure Of The Rudras mainly because it has a godly soundtrack, and its pretty cool to experience the same story from points of view of the different characters.

You are fixing that up.

There was Final Fantasy Adventure on the GB, which was actually Secret of Mana 1, and there was MQ, which was supposed to be a Final Fantasy for N.A., because "all murican players are dumb, hurr durr".

Morrowind's gameplay is great... but not from an immediately obvious standpoint. The game-breaking you can do in it with super-powerful enchanted items, ultra spells and shit like jumping between cities is really what made Morrowind for me, and it's my favourite in the TES series.

Cause I love the battle sequence games

>mixing, not fixing

sure, gothictard

Had to always refrain myself to cast cure just to listen to the music!

Maybe that's true, but if I have to break a game to enjoy it it's not really a well-designed game, is it?

Gothic 1 (only the first one) didn't have that. At the very beginning you are damn weak, but soon you can deal with anyone in all camps. But then there are the Minecrawlers, and you have to defeat them. But then there are the Orcs, but then there are the Temple Orcs, but then ... you see how it escalates?

On each level you are walking death until you get to the next tier. That's what I loved about that game.

lol umad

No. Its an Action RPG like Legend Of Zelda, Secret Of Mana/Evermore and Illusion Of Gaia.

Mario is missing

I really mean that game

my brothers and i were so pissed when we rented that game

Illusion of Gaia ... ugh.

I really like Terranigma, but IoG was just ... so confused, so unstructured. And it absolutely didn't help that I first played the German version which had an atrocious - ATROCIOUS - translation.

And there's, like, only one good track in the entire OSTre: that of Cape Town.

y'all fags! Mariokart is where it's at.

It is a well designed game from many other aspects. The quest fit the world well and the world is well built-overall (better than Oblivion and Skyrim). The game doesn't have to be broken to be enjoyable, but the fact that you design the ways in which you break it (various spells, enchantments and alchemy) is what makes it great.

I agree about Gothic though, Gothic 2 NOTR had the same shit and its gameplay was way better than the first (although less getting overpowered per tier and more till the end of the game) - youtube.com/watch?v=kX0P1XnPUS4 this is what made the 2nd game for me.

If you like Earthbound, you might also like the Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest series. Similar play styles.

No one fucking cares, you are posting on a wrong thread. Maybe you'll find a PC RPG thread on Cred Forums.

>It is a well designed game from many other aspects. The quest fit the world well and the world is well built-overall.

Never argued that, because I didn't see much from that side of the game. It's just that I also want to have proper gameplay.

>The game doesn't have to be broken to be enjoyable
Well, when I played it, I didn't go overboard, and I didn't enjoy it, so I deduct that I have to break it in order for me to enjoy it.

>Gothic 2 NOTR had the same shit and its gameplay was way better than the first

Well, actually that is what made NOTR worse for me. It's a great game, with the Addon world and whatnot, don't get me wrong - but just from the immersion of setting and gameplay Gothic 1 beats them all. Right at the beginning you can become stronger than 70% of all camp inhabitants - and that is just awesome IMO.

...

>This game brought the feels and had one of the best vidya soundtracks of all-fucking-time

Hey, why don't you fuck off? Because I don't care that you don't care, but you obviously care. So what you gonna do now, huh?

Faggot.

>tfw the first time you beat Nick Bruiser

Did they have any for snes?

The soundtrack of MMX2 was better in certain instances.
>Don't believe me? Listen to Bubble Crab's stage music and tell me it's not a piece of the gods.

Whoops, sorry, I'll stop now (after this last response)
I liked getting stronger than 70% of the camp right away as well, but I think the fact that you can't do that in the 2nd game is what shows that shit got real. Story sucked other than expansion though which is a shame (though getting hunted was interesting)

1, 2, 3, 5, and 6

Lmaoooo!!

Which one is the best

>Story sucked other than expansion though which is a shame

True on that one. I think the reason for that is because the developers had a blank slate on the first part, and then they were limited on what they could do in the second part. Look at Risen for example - first part was good, later ones sucked.

The story of Gothic 1 and Risen 1 were gorgeous.

Dr. Cain's Lab theme from X3 shits on every other MegaMan OST

Castlevania

Earthbound for sure

The lab theme is repetitive as hell. I'd go on and say there are only three good tracks in MMX3 - the intro stage, Gravity Beetle's stage and Zero's theme.

Cannot compete with the first game, that was overall gold, and the second game, which was platinum at some points.

Earth Bolind was the bes

Earthbound is actually a pretty dark game hidden cartoonish symbols

I never said it's a childish game. Only that it's presentation was so.

>its
fix'd

This game is so underrated. Fun as he'll and challenging as fuck

>limbs will fly
>flags
literally the only things I remember about this

Final Fantasy 6 all the way

VI had a bad translation and a very disappointing setting. IX has neither, is still damn fun to play, and has an amazing story and lots of characterization (except for Freya, whose arc suddenly stops at CD2, and Amarant, who had like one dungeon of characterization).

FF IX all the way, sorry.

EarthBound is one of the most over rated games ever produced. I think the only one that tops it is Shenmue.

I'm not saying it's bad but fuck off is it a masterpiece.

Oh, and they didn't really fix both in remakes. The translation got better at GBA times, but is still far from accurate, and the setting is still disappointing.

Can't decide between Link to the Past and Super Metroid

OP here. Never said it was a masterpiece but it is still my favorite. It was fucking great playing it as a kid and even now at 25 ill play it every once in a while and I'm still interested. The games still fun and the nostalgia factor is great too. Feels like deja vu
